Nancy,
If all you are looking for is a Calendar that blends into your Desktop, and is capable of placing some of your text into any date square, the one offered at the top of this page (Interactive Calendar) is permanently free.
You have not missed it, just click the Heading link above.

I have been searching for a way to get some of my VB6 programs to be 'bottom most' (stay on the desktop below other running programs).
If I could program my programs to blend into the desktop like Interactive Calendar has done, I would be a very happy programmer.

I missed getting this one and need a desktop calendar!! Do you think you might offer another one, or this one, sometime soon?

Their free Interactive Calendar is very good.
I have broken my Start Menu into categories, so that I can easily find and launch any program. I don't have any icon shortcuts on my desktop.
Thus my desktop is wasted space. The Interactive Calendar blends into your desktop picture/background, and you can edit what appears in that Calendar. EG ToDo's etc.
It uses zero CPU, and a tiny amount of memory.
I recommend it, without any reservations.

My recommendation is that software authors do not offer "LITE" products. As described above, removing essential functions from a product only serves readers like me to avoid the lite product entirely

I visit this site every day to see the offer of the day.
I do it because of the Great programs offered
I do it to learn about programs that fill a need I never knew existed
I do it for the freebies.
I don't look at the rating of a program because that's not always a true reflection of the programs value but I DO read ALL the reviews to see if It's a program worthy of occupying the limited space on my computer

While I do understand that Giovanni's comments could be misunderstood I find them helpful.

Since Giovanni provides options comparing the GOTD to other freebies out there I trust that when he says GRAB this program (and he has)you can bet I do! NOTHING here tells me it's great more than his approval.
While his approval means a lot I don't dismiss programs if he feels otherwise. I DO dismiss programs when the majority of the reviews report bugs or extremely limited use programs - and that's up to the developer.

Giovanni's wealth of freebie knowledge and generosity to share it with us gives me too many options to try them all. I usually try the GOTD while it's free and if it isn't right for me I'll choose from the many options he suggests.

FYI - I have bought programs offered here. Either I loved it but didn't install it correctly so I ended up with an expired program, I missed the deadline (I usually download late)and it was a program rated highly & I it was what I needed, or I purchased it for my laptop at a later date.

Thank You Giovanni
Rachel

Update: I installed this program with no problems, but when I tried to change some of the options for the contact view the programs frozen solid. I had to go into the task manager and kill it there. UNINSTALLED.

Take care and kepp FREEWARE flowing.

#10 - Jim - How can you criticize Giovanni for his comments. He takes the time to offer not only his careful thoughts on the GAOTD offering, but also talks about the market for such offerings and offers free utilities that frequently exceed the capabilities of the daily offering. He has no commercial ax to grind as he is suggesting free downloads.
He brings credibility and value to the GAOTD site, in my view, and I check his opinions and others before I download a limited program that will not provide updates or support.
Jim - your comments about the GAOTD offerings are welcome - but your criticism of others who take the time and trouble to comment on a regular basis with value added information is out of line. You are free to ignore his comments if you wish. But personal comments about Giovanni do not add to the site. I appreciate his regular comments and advice.

#8 “So it’s definitely not worth downloading and/or commenting!!”

You have got to be kidding me? Do some people even try the software graciously offered here, or even even bother to look at the links they post? A digital date conversion utility between 26 different calendar systems plus Aztec Xiuhpohualli, Balinese Pawukon and others is a PIM? Diary software? ToDo list program? The one flagged as "personal favorite" doesn’t even include a fully functional calendar in the free version, but it's free version is somehow "better"? ( http://www.efficientpim.com/download-freeware.htm ) No LOL!!'s today, but there must be some kind of in joke that I have been missing out on...

c-Organizer is a fully functional calendar/task/notes/contacts/encryptable/rich import-export options/portable and more suite of tools. I downloaded this from GOTD back in 2011. After trying out other comparable calendars and organizers I settled into this one as it meets my needs and the way it works is suited to my personal tastes. It is another of GOTD offerings that I eventually purchased.

Your requirements and workflow style are going to vary, but this is a good chance to try a good software suite of tools and compare for yourself to the other software available.

why do I come here? I come here to take a look at what is available, see if it meets a need I have and then if it does, I use it. Does what Giovani says make a difference? You bet. At least three times I have found that one of Giovani's recommendations better met my needs than what I was using or the GOTD.

I agree with others that a company that is using GOTD to deliver an outdated or limited product is just fishing for upsells. I have used a GOTD item that was the current version and then when a new version came out bought the upgrade. What I don't do is download and install brain-damaged software that is being offered to get me to go buy a product. A bait-and-switch. That's not the purpose of this site, and companies that use it for that purpose are really doing a disservice to the user community here.

Today's offer falls into the bait-and-switch category. They don't care if I use it and report back bugs or suggestions, because it partially brain dead to begin with. They just want me to try it out so that I can be upsold to the "pro" version. If they really wanted input and feedback (the purpose of this site for them) from interested and involved users then they wouldn't have delivered a braindead piece of software for us to download. On the positive side, at least they didn't give us last a braindead piece of software that is also a version behind.

Just went to Csoft's site and checked out the pro version. Looks like a good, highly useful PIM. At 50 percent off, $20, it could be a decent deal. That said, it's dated. Syncing with Palm and Win CE begs the obvious question, why not with Android and iOS? Fix that, provide lifetime updates, and a $25-$30 price would be justified for the pro version.

This program is good for a novice (Grandma), but lack all of the PRO features that would make a good all-a-round program.

I have been using the free version of Efficient Man's Organizer: http://www.mansorganizer.com/ for some time now. It has all of the features of this program plus a lot more. I would compare it with this program's PRO version. It comes with a dark GUI, but there is a version for the ladys: http://www.ladysorganizer.com/ which has a pink GUI.

If I was you I would give these programs a look after trying this one and compare.

Take care and keep FREEWARE flowing.

@Jim Sock

The power of the internet is exactly what this site is permitting by allowing Gio to post free alternatives.

If the s/w manufacturer weren't interested in hearing feedback about their product, than they wouldn't be giving away their product here for a day.

And, as such, Gio's posting of "here are products that are doing what yours does, only better and free" is valuable feedback for a company to see what features are desired that their product is missing and how they can go about competing with these other alternatives.

If this site kicked off Gio for "trolling" as you call it, than it wouldn't be any better than a communist or Arab country that filters their citizen's internet for fear of uprising :-)

#10 "Sock" You voiced an opinion I have had for a long time. Right on.
(at this website’s and your expense.)
I think you may have crossed the line though with the "TROLL" part though. Giovanni may end up being the downfall of this site but I don't believe he could be considered to be trolling and I think he honestly means well.

I disagree with your opinion that GOTD goal "is to showcase programs that do things _better_ and offer _more features_ than the freebie competition."
No, I believe the goal of GOTD is to give an outlet for a developer to showcase his product in the hopes that someone will purchase it. Therefore it makes little sense for a developer to showcase his product on a site who's members seems to (nowadays) want to point out so many other applications that are better. (in their opinion)I see this trend discouraging developers from continuing to use GOTD and could eventually close this site up. Those who think it's their duty to constantly inform everyone of alternative software (no matter how good their intentions) should keep that in mind. As someone else here stated "Competition is good" yes it is but waste of time advertising is " A waste of time"
I'd hate to see the end of GOTD

@j #10 - Giovani a troll? Why would you dis someone like that? The best way to improve any website, inclulding GAOTD, is to have varied viewpoints, opinions and back them up with tangible info - which is what Giovani does. I must say that GAOTD has not had as many good giveaways as they did in the past and the "trolls" as you call them, provide excellent pointers to software that will cover the need. I for one thank Giovani and others for the excellent assistance and flavor they provide to visitors at GAOTD - not to mention the legendary Ashraf.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

@Jim Sock: Very few will be satisfied with a program that is less useful or less full-featured than another that does things better and is also free. That is the nature of competition. The challenge for Giveaway of the Day, and in most cases they do, is to showcase programs that do things _better_ and offer _more features_ than the freebie competition. I for one always try out the GotD offer of the day and if it satisfies my needs I go no further. But if it falls short, I try some of Giovanni's suggestions. That in no way hurts GotD's offer.

A troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community. Giovanni does not fit this description. He does not prevent us from receiving the benefit of the day's giveaway, he simply informs us of freely available alternatives. I can't see how this can be seen as being done at our expense.

The purpose of GAOTD is to let us try for free a full version of these programs, we then rate them and help the author make changes, not the lite version that we can get anytime I don't even consider downloading and trying lite versions it is a waste of time in my opinion if I cannot try out Pro versions.

Second Gio's mention of VOrg Express (the second item in his list). It probably isn't as good as the pro version of this but infinitely better than this GAOTD offering.

Another interesting free alternative that hasn't been mentioned is called my portable pim

http://www.myportablepim.com/en/home.html

It has a whole lot of related pim kind of stuff under one roof including a twitter client, rss reader, weather, as well as the standard calendar and notes trackers. Slow to load and its interface takes some getting used to but I actually kind of like it.

My advice? This offering is a complete waste of time because there are so many free alternatives which are better. Skip it.

#9 - GOTD and CSoftLab teams,

Unfortunately nobody is interested in today's giveaway - they're all going to go download the free programs that Giovanni the Troll advertises every day, at this website's and your expense.

Thank you for the opportunity and good program - I like it very much.

Dear GOTD users,

the build was updated and the new package is already available on GOTD. Here are the details on changes from CSoftLab:

"We've found a problem in C-Organizer Lite protection. The program does not allow to edit entries in the Contacts section. We recommend to all users download the updated installation package and re-install C-Organizer."

Sorry for the inconvenience.

The PRO version is an excellent program....this GAOTD is just the LIGHT edition, missing lots of key features (sync with Google, files attachments etc...) wich can be found even in FREE programs out there.

So it's definitely not worth downloading and/or commenting!!

1 THUMBS DOWN to the software and 2 THUMBS DOWN to this policy to give us just the outdated or basic versions of the main program in the hope we buy the full commercial one.

Ashraf (who is way more 'networking' than me) proved that i'm not functioning at this level (of this offer). i doubt that Martha could help me get organized. BUT i did dnld the "free" item (Interactive Calendar) and they have an interesting "free" database "system" (which, if you add to will get you a 'free' license (http://www.csoftlab.com/free_license.html)). So i thumbs up...

As a simple home user I can say I don't have a great need for this type of program. But I installed it and took a look at it. The install went well for me on my XP system. It is the lite version so that in itself will draw a lot of criticism here. For a comparison of this vs the pro version, check out this link..

http://www.csoftlab.com/compare.html

For me this will work fine for my needs. So I say thank you to the GOTD team and to CSoftLab. For those that need more, you will have to look for something with the features you need.

Pros
*Has all the expected task management features plus ability to manage contacts, a notebook, and more
*Can password protect/encrypt data
*Supports rich text entry (i.e. formatted text, tables, and pictures)
*Easy to understand user interface
*Allows you to import or export to/from other organizers that support csv, txt, xml, cdb, and html formats
*Fully customizable view
*Easy-to-read tree-like database structure
*Can post sticky notes right to your desktop
*The program is fully portable. Can be installed to a removable device.
*Supports multiple languages

Cons
*The Pro version has many features not found in Lite. Most notably, Lite is missing out on a ‘Calendar of Events’ (Lite has a ‘Calendar of Appointments’ but not ‘Calendar of Events’). Lite also doesn’t support categories, cannot sync with Google Calendar, does not have yearly calendar view, and cannot attach files. Pro has all these features and more.
*No native sync with, or support for, the two most popular mobile platform, Android and iOS (nor does it support Windows Phone or BlackBerry). If you have Pro, you can sync through Google Calendar.

Free Alternatives
Rainlendar
