I did install the program in a WinXP VM.
And that was more information about making a ISO:

A program should be installed and this is the URL:

I have been destroying the private data with a very simple overwrite of data and nobody has ever succeeded to recover it. Go to the folder with private data, do a simple del *.* and then copy audio or DVD video files in that folder. Once finished, there is no trace or recovery possible of the previous files. I have been challenged many time by reputable companies of the validity of my method, but nobody has said that they can undue the copy over method so far. Audio and video files for some reason are densely packed into the sectors and create continuous files without gaps between the sectors.
Algorithms are pattern base overwrites and they pass multiple times over the same sectors in same pattern and can damage the SSD drives.

I always look for a ssd/ hdd eraser that allows me to safely wipe the free space or entire drive. If this does what it says then it's only use is for those who want to resale a PC or Drive or reinstall a OS ... personally i just use dban for that.
i would try it if it could be used for just the free space or recycle bin ! Thank but no thanks ! I'll pass on this one.

mike, do not to forget the hibernation-file.
Also do not forget the swap-file.
After shutting down Windows, these files contains a lot of data. Maybe also the data, you want to erase/protect

mike,

ByebyeData Eraser Pro Home will let you erase just free space, though there doesn't appear to be an option to erase the slack at the end of some clusters. While it doesn't add a context menu, you can select the files &/or folders you want to erase, so I'd think it would work with the Recycle Bin.

There are free MiniTool Drive Wipe, CCleanerFree ..... tested, reliable, widely recognized and used. Agents 007 and even steeper use TrueCrypt Setup 7.1a and VeraCrypt Setup: encrypt a "forgotten key" drive or container with destroyed material, then the encrypted disk is formatted, and the container is simply removed to the basket, which is steeper than microwave ovens. Links do not give, you will find on the expanses of the network of parents. The Russian site blocks me, there with freedom of speech is not quite order. I apologize for the quality of the presentation.

Does anyone succeeded in the making of a WinPE,ISO?:

Error 1002: file not found; nice but what file??

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Ootje,

I installed to a win7 HP 64 bit VM, & ran the media creation -- it apparently downloads the needed file(s). Mounting the ISO I find a basic bootable setup with folders for UEFI, bootmgr for legacy bios, & a source folder with a boot.wim [~177 MB if I remember correctly]. I added the ISO to the VBox VM, set the *disc* as 1st boot, & it worked, bringing up a win7 version of WinPE, then the app started.

Throwing out your old hard drive?
1) Take it out of the machine
2) Get a drill with a metal bit - the bigger the better
3) Wear safety glasses
4) Drill a few holes through the center of the drive
5) If you're not "tool savvy", ask a friend to do the drilling

jj juice, Quite nice, but after that you cannot use that drive again.
In my work I get old PC with drive, that I clean this way.
If I use your method, I have to buy every time a new disk.
And where can you find a PATA disk nowadays.
And also when you buy a new fresh disk, they also can be used sometime.

Reply   |   Comment by Ootje  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

jj juice,

I think you're correct, talking about destroying the drive if you're throwing it in the trash. FWIW I Googled "hard drive disposal" [w/out quotes], coming up with 679k hits, with everything from tips & directions to biz offering this service. A "Scientific American" article mentions drilling through the platters, or as an alternative, using acid.

jj juice,

Just out of curiosity, why a drill?

All the disks that I have had in the past, when they went bad, and I could no longer use any of the tricks to get them to spin up and transfer data, I would open them up, and smash them with a hammer. All the drives I did this too, were made of glass. Round mirror disks, and once they were shattered, there is no way anyone could pull data off of them. Some I turned into little techy purse mirrors for friends.

I am not sure what kind of data people have on their drives that requires this extra treatment when they die, but it seems a bit fishy to need so much extra security when it comes to old drives. Besides banking information, which can always be repaired if someone steals it, there is nothing else worthy of this level of destruction on my disks. When I did it for friends, I never bothered to ask why, I figured they had their reasons.

jj juice,
Then smash it with a sledge hammer, take a trip to lakeland, go for a late night boat trip, and let the pieces fall from your boat.

jj juice,
What other material are drill bits made of? If you drill through the center of the drive you are may just make contact with the center of the spindle (not the platters).

Just take the cover off the HD and smash the platters.

If you have a DVD that you want to destroy, put it in a microwave oven for 5 to 10 seconds. It puts on quite a display as the data disappears.

@ Nigel please use its name "ccleaner", show a bit of maturity. it hasnt been called c*** cleaner in years. And any knowledge about piriform you wouldn't been directing anyone near it at the moment. Windows disk clean up and windows defrag is all thats needed and maybe heidi eraser for wiping securely.

Any feed back on the free dozens out there be appreciated.

Reply   |   Comment by nodroG  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

nodroG,

I'm not quite sure what your concern is.Try googling crap cleaner, the results clearly direct people to the "newly named" ccleaner, but I'm sure more people know as to which program I'm referring to when I call it by it's original name.
I'm sure if you were christened "nodro" you would prefer people to call you that, and not by any new names thought up because people disliked the word nodro, same with CRAP Cleaner.

Reply   |   Comment by Nigel  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

Nigel, you are directing visitors here to install Ccleaner which has been found to contain malware. By using its old name you are being deceptive, thats my point!!

The name is "nogroG" not "nodro".

Are you the developer? or are you a spokesman for Ccleaner, does Ccleaner not like its new name?

Shall we start a petition for Ccleaner to be giving the rights to choice its old name? is it not the developers right to decide on their choice of name?

Any feedback on the dozen's of other free offerings out there?

Reply   |   Comment by nodroG  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

Nigel: The software you're referring to isn't "newly named". The developer of the software re-named it at least a decade ago. That same developer has now sold ccleaner to Avast which, to its horror, suddenly discovered it was flogging a product infected with malware. It has since rectified that. Many of us have fond memories of the software in its original, politically incorrect guise, but it was the developer's decision to change it, so ccleaner is indeed its name.

Sincerely yours, Donald Duck (formerly)

>>cannot be minimised during use.

I have not installed the program yet- just downloaded it. However, if this previous comment is correct than this is a big disadvantage for a program of this type. During a usually long and strenuous task of erasing an entire hard drive, most users would want to be able to "minimize" the program, and let it work in the background, while they are able to use their computer to continue working on other programs and tasks. Another feature (that the previous poster did not comment on) is the ability to allocate a specific amount (usually "%") of the computer/system resources to the erasing/wiping task, once again, to free up enough system resources to allow a user to continue to work on other programs/tasks while the drive erasing/wiping is performed quietly in the background. If this program does not also offer this feature, than as a computer user, I would urge the program developers to seriously consider adding these two features (program minimization capability and ability to set specific "%" of computer resources to the drive erasing/wiping task) to the program ASAP, in order to increase the programs marketability, "user- friendliness", and bringing it up to the competitive level of similar programs in this software category. Looking forward to installing, activating and then trying the program out. Thanks very much for the giveaway, and wishing the programmer the best of luck with their software. -Cfguy

Cfguy, quite agree, the ability to allocate the amount of system resources would be very useful. I overlooked that simply because my rig can easily handle heavy demands on it without the having to resort to making such adjustments, but nevertheless for others it would be handy.

Cfguy,

Seems to minimize just fine.

FWIW I think the main resources ByebyeData Eraser Pro Home would use would be the disk I/O -- that can of course slow you down just as well as software hogging the CPU, with other processes having to wait for a turn to read/write to disk.

Easy installation and activation on Win 10 (x64). Works well but doesn't have context menu integration and cannot be minimised during use. Plenty of wipe/erase options to ensure your data is totally destroyed.

Reply   |   Comment by Ritchi Freudenkinder  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Nigel,

How is ByebyeData Eraser Pro Home better? Overwriting free space isn't rocket science, so I suppose for many it will come down to the WinPE ISO, whether they like the GUI better etc. Today's GOTD will handle some file systems some others won't, so that's a plus, but I'm not sure how many folks will want to erase a *nix drive from Windows for example. Some also may have a trust issue with CCleaner since their recent breach, when the setup file contained malware.
