This app stopped MS IE and FireFox from running. At least I think this was the problem since after I uninstalled it I am now able to run Firefox and IE. Scared the #$!* out of me as I thought I needed to reinstall xp or had some virus. Maybe I just don't know how to run the app correctly but in my opinion it should have not stopped my browsers from running.

I know this comment is like a week late, but i've been away for a while. DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS PROGRAM! It put critical system files in the virtual protection or whatever, so i tried to release them. it messed everything up, i couldn't even log on. i'd get to the login screen, and there would be no users to click on! long story short i had to use the windows recovery program on the XP disk to recover my computer. No bueno

This program worked great on one of my computers and crashed the other one. I want to recommend the program to a friend. Can someone tell me how to set up the program on a computer with multiple users so that it works for everyone? The computer it crashed had mcafee and several GOTD programs on it. I don't know what it was conflicting with. The computer it works well on also has a few GOTD programs on it. Love the program on the computer that works.!

#156, I had the exact same thing happen to me. I got the same message and got stuck in a loop trying to reboot. The loop is actually a windows stop error that's causing the machine to reboot. Boot from last known good configuration and uninstall the program and you should be fine.

After installing, I got a start error whenever trying to start my system. The only way to get back to a working state was to start from last known good configuration and uninstall the program. I tried installing this twice, and had the same results both times. So I can't say whether it's a good program or not, because I couldn't run my system with it installed.

I must have some conflicting software or something because Buffer Zone prevented me from using Firefox on reboot and the only way to overcome the problem was to uninstall Buffer Zone.
Great program but not for me this time.

Hi,

would be a nice program, however,

"run as" after right mouse click in Win XP SP2 on a program file does not work - Windows says that I have not the rights to run this program file after entering the coreect username and password...

Does anybody know help?

After unloading BufferZone Pro, "run as" works fine again...

Update: on the Gmail issue (see #126), the connection problems start after a couple of minutes. Out of curiosity I started another Gmail session simultaneously on the same computer -no problem. So something in BufferZone is causing this.

About what I said on fooling BufferZone previously (see #127), it doesn't happen all the time, so I'm having a few question marks here.

Run fine at first, but totally borked both IE and Firefox after I logged off Windows XP SP2 in the middle of having both Firefox, IE, and another installation program open. Disabling made the browsers usable again, but reinstalling Bufferzone did not help. It is obvious there are a lot of compatibility/conflict problems with this program- your mileage may vary... In my case my mileage was ZERO. Uninstalled for the 2nd time and wrote this comment.

What's this done to my PC? I installed BZ, and now I can't resize My Firefox window, it stays full size. When I try to move the window with the cursor, it bounces back to the original position when I let go of it and as I move the window around my desktop, my whole screen flashes, badly.

That's all I can see for the moment, could be more trouble. If this is a permanent problem after installing BZ, forget it, it's not worth installing for me as the problems outweigh the benefits OMO. I simply cannot work with this thing installed.

Bummer. :-(

HELPPLEASE? HELPPLEASE! HELPPLEASE?

First- GGOTD & GGOTD I LOVE YOU!

My having ths much trouble is VERY rare.

I really need this program...
Got the key instantly....have been trying since 9pm to install.

Got these error msgs:

1st- when I tried to extract it:

File Error
This archive requires a newer version of the ExplorerPlus
Zip library than the version in use

I don't have ExplorerPlus, never have, never heard of it. Googled it, downloaded a trial version.

When I tried to install it, got this:

ExplorerPlus Error
The system date is not properly set. Please set the system date
to the correct date.

My date & time are internet synched, even opened it up to double-check.

SO-- I still can't unzip/extract it to install BufferZone, and have less than an hour to install it.

Its Good. But People with security softwares like Norton Internet Security, Kaspersky etc. will face a problem because this program does not allow combined working of .exe programs. So your firewall will be disabled, drivers wont be accessible and many other problems.

#86 and #59

The suggestions of other software titles in these comments is VERY helpful and HIGHLY valuable. OF COURSE, we want to hear about similar programs so we can compare feature sets. And there IS a difference between a freeware program and a GAOTD program: the freeware can be reinstalled later in case of a crash or upgrade, or used on a computer that you didn't have access to on the day of the giveaway. In fact, the alternate software suggestions are one of the BEST features of this comments section. Further, the software companies get comparison points straight from the users, which I would think makes their free offer worthwhile to them.

Just my two cents.

Following up on #32 and #41.

Verdict: Not a keeper on my system. I finally got it uninstalled. Here is my reasoning:

Running WinXP SP2 Home Edition on Intel P4 2 GHz, and 2Ghz 768Meg Ram, browser Firefox 5.0.1.8.1.6 Running Windows firewall and AVG.

Dowloaded fine. I didn't feel good about having to fill in a web form to be able to get a key. Used a disposable email address so I don't get spam if Bufferzone decides to sell my address to someone later.
I had to process the form twice. The first time the browser hung when I completed the form. The second time it went okay. Key was emailed straight away within 2 minutes.

I installed it, rebooted and everything fine... for 30 seconds. Then the dramas began. My system began maxing out the CPU over and over. Watching my process list in Task Manager showed that it was firefox that was taking up all the CPU. Running firefox in safe mode with BZ on caused same cycling effect. With BZ off the cycling stopped.

Unloading the process created an error saying that shutting down msmsgrs.exe would cause loss of data. I continued and terminated bufferzone. Computer crashed.

On restart, windows application prevention service(Which I didn't even know existed) kept a file from executing. Apparently this service blocks some virus and trojan activity. It is possible that I have a backdoor or trojan that executes only through BZ. The cycling of CPU was apparent in the Task Manager Process list through Firefox process. My page file usage was steady. So something was communicating outwards from my system through firefox.

Because I couldn't use the task bar menu to Unload Bufferzone, I went into Start>Programs>BufferZone>Uninstall. That succeeded in uninstalling the program. Upon reboot, the program and the system has gone back to apparently normal. No CPU spikes at all.

On a side note: Upon installation of Bufferzone, Keylogger Killer identified three possible keylogging programs. I am going from memory now, but the names were like these: One was 'MADCHOOK.dll', another was 'BZDRAGNDROP.dll' and the other was 'BZhook.dll'. Just because Keylogger Killer identifies these as potential keyloggers doesn't mean that they are.

All in all, the program didn't work for me. It seems others have had good success with it, so I am leaning toward the idea that I have a system issue that is conflicting with the program working well for me.
A thumbs down for me.

Cheers!

Me again. Another word of caution: I just noticed that BufferZone can easily be fooled. Even with my default browser (IE6) configured to work in the bufferzone, when I doubleclick a shortcut in any explorer window that points to a URL, IE starts without the red border and I can save files to the C: drive outside the Virtual folder. That means no protection. The red border only seems to be appearing when I doubleclick the Iexplore.exe or a shortcut to it.

I've read all the comments and the reviews as well. I decided to try it for installing new software in a sandbox environment. Please note that this *only* happens if you download and run that file from the protected mode. If you've downloaded something somewhere before that's out of the sandbox, then you can't install it in the sandbox. Initially only the well-known browsers and IM clients and a few others are configured to run inside the sandbox. Or perhaps I misunderstood?

Also I just wanted to note my observation that if I start gmail from the bufferzone, it tends to drop the connection (Quick contacts shows "we're experiencing difficulties..."). Manually trying to reconnect failed every time. When I start it out of the bufferzone, there's no connection problem of course...

All in all I think it can be a useful addition to the security I already have, but I don't intend on running it all the time. I did not experience any of the trouble previous posters have reported. Got the email in a minute (gmail). No blue screens, no reboots, no performance hits, it's almost like it's not there.

I'm Not one to moan. but this program caused a system crash for me. I have just spent the last 7+ hours reformatting my computer, installed all my backups (Thanks to Acronis true image!) Have finally got things running normally again. Apart from all my previous GOATD downloads, I've lost them!!. To say i'm annoyed is an understatement. I Have faith in GOATD and am a regular downloader from them. But from now on I will be very wary of apps that mess with my hard drive. I Recommend that everyone download this program with caution please.

Well I tried Returnil and Bufferzone but neither worked on my system. Causing system instability and clashes with other programs in both cases.

Thanks for the opportunity to try them GOTD.

Sandboxie does work for my setup so thanks to all those "retards" that suggested it.

#86 might like to think a little straighter before insulting others who might have the technical savvy to know that because it works on your system doesn't mean it works on everybody else's.

One of the big advantages of GOTD is an opportunity to try. Another is to read other peoples comments and suggestions. Keep up the good work.

#86-ThinkStraight (an ironic name if ever there was one): The reason software is free for one day here is so people can try it out and hopefully give some useful, intelligent feedback to the developers. This way, they can see whether people would be willing to pay the asking price (which isn't FREE!). It's also useful to them, and to everyone who uses this site, to know what and where the competition is, free or otherwise. All your shameless brown-nosing won't change that one bit.
Read up on what this site is about before you try taking someone down.

And you misspelled the word "leech".

For those who are running Returnil, Prevx, Comodo, install it with great caution. My 1st Bufferzone installation didn't proceed completely when those were running in the background and many system services weren't responsive (such that I had to hard RESET my XP). My 2nd Bufferzone installation (with those apps shutdown) proceeded completely but after restarting my XP on instruction, B.S.O.D appeared. Had to enter Safe Mode to uninstall it and everything's back to normal. So I'm here giving my feedback. Told Trustware too. Hope it works next time.

You can turn off the annoying red border in the "configuration" section of the BufferZone control panel. Just unclick "Draw a red border around BufferZone programs." But make sure you save your change afterwards, or it won't take effect. And you'll have to reboot.

After a day of work, I experience no trouble at all. It works just fine. When I'm sure a program is safe I import it in the "real" environment, but for now everything is in the virtual Bufferzone. Except for the anti-virus software, that I allowed to go outside of it.

Above alot of people say this is only for users that exactly know what they are doing. I think its also great for the less gifted user because when there is some serious problem, these can easily be erased, and a clean desk is appearing again. Of course all lately installed programs wil be gone too, if they were not granted in the real environment, but thats better than a not working pc. And the not experienced users more often fall for the traps virus/trojan-programmers set for them. So I think everybody should be working with this gem.
