Blacksmith3D is a 3D painting and sculpting program that is easy-to-use and creates high-quality 3D art. 3D artists who are using popular modeling, animation and rendering software find it simple to integrate into their pipeline. 2D artists who are looking to experiment with 3D software find Blacksmith3D intuitive since it has a standard 2D paint application look and feel.

  • High-resolution texture painting. System RAM and CPU power are the only limiting factors. In other words, it does not depend on your 3D video card capabilities.
  • Stacked Image Layers - just like your favorite 2D paint application! Create any number of layers, change the blending modes and strengths for ultimate texture compositions.
  • Chisel Deformers - sculpt your models on the fly using Blacksmith3D's powerful new chisel deformers. Just like paint brushes, you can apply swift strokes in the viewport to bulge, smooth, flatten, sharpen and contour details that you never thought were possible.
  • Real-time displacement/bump map painting and rendering. Paint directly on the displacement and/or bump maps and see the result in real time.
  • Auto-UV Mapping – use the Paint Setup Wizard to auto-UV just about any object file with a single click.
  • Presets - Store tools, viewports and brush tiling as presets for rapid reuse during projects.
  • Custom Hotkeys – simply right click on most interface elements to bind them to a hotkey on-the-fly.

Some video tutorials to get you started!
Please note that we have a limited and fixed amount of the keys for the offer!

Read the ReadMe in the package and follow the instructions.

The 32 bit exe file needed for 32 bit computers can be downloaded here, under the label "Get the last Blacksmith3D Version 6 Updates" :

https://www.blacksmith3d.com/blacksmith3d-support-cms-60

It works, and registers with the received key. Also, the unzipped folder is still registered after moving it to a different folder on the computer.

This is an extremely confusing giveaway. As others have stated it does not work in 32 bit Windows XP, will try it in Vista Business 32 bit. And may try in Win Vista Ultimate 64 bit later possibly. As I did run it in Windows 7 64 bit, and it supposedly is activated. However it is NOT an installed program on my C:\ drive, nor is it listed as an installed program. Is this a portable program?! I install these giveaway programs off my USB hardrive so they don't take up space locally. So I assume if I delete the giveaway folder the program won't work? More than confusing to say the least. Although it appears to be an awesome program, where are developers during this giveaway? No one has answered anyone's questions? I definitely wouldn't pay $129 for a companies software if they can't even answer a few questions while the giveaway is going on. But thank you anyway GAOTD. All these are worth a try. :-) And we aren't paying so I'm not complaining, just a large critique on this one. If it works in 32 bit Vista I will add to this comment, or if it won't install in Vista 64 bit as well. Have a great day!!

This software is portable so there’s no installer, simply Unzip the Compressed folder. Open the readme file and follow the instructions to receive your license key. If you’re a 32-bit user you’ll need to visit the support page in the provided link below.

https://www.blacksmith3d.com/blacksmith3d-support-cms-60

Read the second block on the left and download the 32-bit exe application file to put into your program folder. This is the file you’ll use to start the program.

I can’t verify it works on 32-bit, (64-bit here working as expected) but with the right application file it should work fine. Good Luck.

Tip: Remember you can locate this folder wherever you want because the program is portable

I would reiterate Original Samuel's points in the Facebook comments . I certainly appreciate the opportunity to get commercial software for free. However, in this case the software company's website (https://www.renderosity.com) appears to incorrectly state that this software will run under 32 bit XP. When I attempt to install it on 32 bit XP Home SP3 I get a message stating that "Blacksmith3D.exe is not a valid Win32 application", and therefore I cannot install it.

Was really interested in trying this, one of the few offers on GaotD that's grabbed my attention. The problem is, as others have also encountered, it's not 32bit compatible as the specifications state and won't install!

Can we please have this offer extended and a link to the requisite download provided? An awful lot of us are missing out, and it's probably mainly those of us with older machines who can't afford to upgrade to 64bit!!

Thanks

Blacksmith3D,

Thanks for the email containing the link, however there's a problem.

Your page says to install using the contents of the zip file, which doesn't work as it's giving the same error as the original download and needing 64bit. If I simply copy the 32bit file from your link and place it in the unzipped folder it starts, but is in demo mode with no save/export - because there's now no way to register! I've tried the link from the original giveaway folder and the page no longer exists!!

Disappointing but going to just have to give up on this one.

Installed without issue. License sent instantly.

Of note...the program installs to whereever you unzip it...no offer to install to C directory or to have quick start on the Desktop. I assume I can move the unzipped location into my C Drive and copy a shortcut to my Desktop.

Not a biggy....just some extra steps that usually aren't there.

It will take days before I see if/how the program actually works. Hope there aren't extra steps there too?

bobbo, there's no such thing as in instant, intuitive 3d program - they just don't exist. If the idea of "days" to see if the program works for you is off putting, then maybe this isn't for you. I've been using Poser and Daz Studio for ten years and still feel like a newb, especially with Daz - they keep adding new features that I have to figure out :)

I am also very happy and pleased to have the chance, to get such a GREAT program as a freebie !! There is a learning curve, to be sure, but there are videos on YouTube to help, and also a downloadable manual. It won't happen today, and it will take time to become proficient, but this is a wonderful opportunity to do some fab graphics. Many thanks !!! No problems with installation or registration. Up and running well in Windows 10 laptop, 64 bit. Thumbs up from me.

Heh - I thought maybe go to their site and download the 32-bit Blacksmith3d Standard 6. See if I can make it work, so the people who are dependent on 32-bit could go that route. As it turns out, they don't actually offer that anymore - for sale or otherwise. The only option is the subscription-based version 7.

Warning: Personal opinion ahead! Subscription based software really bugs me. I know all the big names have gone that road now, and that definitely doesn't make it bug me any less. It's made me go completely freeware/ opensource as a result, and I've chosen to instead give my money to the developers who put so much work and effort into Blender, Gimp, LibreOffice, so on and so forth, making creative software available to everybody.

That this giveaway not only isn't actually a sold product any longer, but a version with less features than another product that is also no longer available, really turned me off of the software. And it looked so promising too. I'll stick with Blender.

From the product description: "System RAM and CPU power are the only limiting factors. In other words, it does not depend on your 3D video card capabilities."

That's a nice way of saying there's little in the way of using GPU hardware acceleration, though OpenGL 1.1 is used & required.

Info on version 7 here:
blacksmith3d[.]com/blacksmith3d-version-7-texture-transformer-version-2-released-cms-58

There's an update you *might* *try* here:
blacksmith3d[.]com/download-update-6-3-0-0-now-cms-51

The software is distributed without an installation program -- copy or move the "Blacksmith3D" folder where you'd like, then create shortcuts as you'd like to "Blacksmith3D.exe" or just double click it [or right click & Run as Admin., perhaps at least the 1st time]. The update mentioned above is a new set of files in the same folder arrangement. The download page says: "If you have a previously registered version 6 and have not removed any of the previous files, you should not have to register this update.", so hopefully it will work with the GOTD, but back up [copy] those original files first before replacing them.

The Readme.txt file that comes with the downloaded update says that the package is for the full suite [pro version] with file saving/exporting disabled. It then says that when you register the app it will convert to the product according to the key you used. Since the Texture Transformer is extra or included in the pro version, sounds like the "TextureTransformerData" folder, sadly the bulk of the GOTD download size, can be deleted, but copy it somewhere else, or rename it & try the app without it 1st.

I decided to download Blacksmith3D Standard 6 not because I'm interested in a program like this but just out of curiosity. In short, I had no problem installing and registering this portable. However I'm impressed for the program lack of intuitiveness and the the so cryptic tutorials. In short I'm can't expend my time trying to understand how this program works. Deleted.

I had this before and I'm not going to install this version. It is limited to very minimal rendition of 3D looks.
The black parts of the picture look like a plain black smudge, the people faces turn into porcelain like frozen look, if the background is busy (like trees or distance horizon) turns into a big blur, the hair looks not natural and is like painted on with a course brush and the final look is very disappointing.
Not to mention the time you will put in to build the object(s) around it (it took me 4 hours) to finish a simple project with one object and palm trees in the background and the size is tremendous when saved.

I agree with other comments regarding the program. I cannot install it on my Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit system. Why wasn't the 32 bit version of the program offered? The 32 bit versions can be installed onto a 64 bit system, but not the other way round.

As a senior pensioner, I appreciate the items that are made available free for us, but can we please be offered programs that can and will work on all current Windows Operating Systems.

Thank you.

Reply   |   Comment by DougRT  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

DougRT,

64 bit software handles memory differently, & can use more memory. 64 bit Windows includes a sub-system that allows running 32 bit software, which is a good thing because most Windows software is still 32 bit -- the exceptions are software that the developer(s) felt needed the extra capabilities that come with 64 bit code. Lots of graphics-related software, e.g. Photoshop CC [& today's GOTD], are only written for 64 bit, either because the developers couldn't realize their vision in 32 bit software, or felt that there wasn't enough of a market to create a 2nd, 32 bit version.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

mike, I appreciate your reply and not disagreeing with you, but on the GOTD offer page it stated that it was suitable for x32 and x64, copied below, which was misleading to interested people.

System Requirements:
Windows XP/ Vista/ 7/ 8/ 10 (x32/x64); compatible with 3D Studio Max, Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, Photoshop, Poser, Daz Studio or any applications that can import and export .obj files and use standard texture maps (jpg, png, etc.)

DougRT, see my reply to lui. 3d graphics is better with 64 bit systems for the reasons he gives and as I said, this software is aimed at 3d artists. Daz studio that I mentioned is a free 3d software program that will alow you to get a glimpse, however as stated it is memory intensive due to the rendering of the images it creates, giving a lifelike image that major film studios use for character generation. An example is the scenery in avatar created using a program called vue, or jar jar binks in star wars

This has a very odd installation process, you almost have to be an alchemist to figure it out. And then what does it do? The package should have a video guide to illustrate its various uses. The software is not intuitive. Step 1, 2 and 3? Even in my car I know where to put the key in, what is step 1 here.

I finally got to the Get Key page after trying via three different browsers and got the key via email.
Ran Blacksmith3d.exe and completed the registration page - to get a message saying key was not valid.

Hello Derek,

Please make sure that you are copying and pasting the key into the field and do not have any spaces before or after the license key. If you continue to have an issue, please email us at info@blacksmith3d.com so that we can help you.

Looks interesting, but beside not being the most recent 7 version, this standard version is very limited compared to the pro one.
If you scroll down this page:
https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/blacksmith3d-standard-version-6/106976
you will find where you can click to display a comparison chart between version 6 standard and pro.

You can subscribe to the full pro 7 version for a monthly fee of less than 9 dollars, and cancel at any time:
https://www.blacksmith3d.com/mod/bsmith3dreg/subscribe.php

They also explain on top of this GOTD page how you can upgrade from standard 6 to standard 7 with a 40% off coupon.

Downloaded, got serial, etc. But refuses to install. Says it is not compatible with "this version of Windows" (Win7/32).

Huh?

orig_rune, There is no installation, it's portable.

orig_rune, the website says it's compatible with 32 or 64 bits, but the download provided here appears to be a 64-bit program, so will not run on 32-bit systems.

ew, instructions say to install (!) before giveaway period is over. But if you can't believe the 32/64 bit stuff...? Mine won't install anyway (Win 10 64bit), and won't run as portable either. Great.

Hello ew,

Just want to make sure that you know that the files in the zip must be extracted onto a hard-drive in order to run properly. Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Best Regards.

Blacksmith3D, Thanks but there's no need, I have a 64-bit system and it runs fine. I was just pointing out what the problem might be.

To those wanting a 32-bit edition, PLEASE note that our emails are bouncing from hotmail. We have updated our support page to include a link to the 32-bit edition, so that you can download it from there.

Blacksmith3D, not seeing your support page off Renderosity.. just the store. Could you please supply a link in this thread for those wanting the 32bit version? I've sent an email to you a bit ago, so far without response, so am posting this request in the thread.

Thank you!

Hello Darren,

My apologies, I had tried to paste the support link earlier, but not sure it worked right. So, I will try it again here: Blacksmith3D support page.

fredh, to my memory every giveaway readme file says to install, for some reason.

I've tried typing the registration key and copying and pasting it and I get "The registration key entered is invalid for this product". Any ideas?

LABUS, I don't get it. The version downloaded on my PC is definitely 6 standard.

ouialaraison, You are correct, They are giving us version 6 and you can then upgrade to 7, I assume for a fee.

BobH, ensure you do not have a "space" before or after copying the code.

Reply   |   Comment by P Jackson  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

Hello BobH,

It sounds like you got it registered after making sure there were no spaces before or after the license key.

Until the software is registered, the software is in DEMO/Free Trial mode, which is the pro edition. And it is the Standard version 6 that we are giving away. Sorry for any confusion.

Best Regards.

Blacksmith3D, I haven't been able to register my copy. I'm putting in the registration number properly, but I keep getting " "The registration key entered is invalid for this product".

Reply   |   Comment by BobH  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Blacksmith3D,

No. I clearly said that wasn't the problem. The problem was, it kept saying the key was invalid, and I couldn't spend my entire Saturday waiting for a response from you. After reading all the other comments I ended up uninstalling it anyway. It just isn't worth the aggravation. Thanks anyway.

Best Regards.
