#20 and all you other users of Super. The damn thing calls home EVERY time you turn it on!! In fact, it won't function without doing so. I tried it too and my firewall picked it up trying to call home every time I tried to use it. Yeah, its powerful and yeah, its fast and yeah, it can do just about everything, but why do you want a program to call home just to run??!!! BE AFRAID !!! BE VERY AFRAID!!! Piss on Super and piss on you if you're dumb enough to keep using it. You deserve whatever happens to your p.c.

Very simple to use. As I used to use Daniusoft Video Converter which could also convert video/ audio but let me trim, crop, do some special effect.

I downloaded this at the beginning of the giveaway period and have tried diligently to run it through its paces. Sadly, I have also found that it opens only the Divx avi files I have. I am in Australia, Pal is the format of DVD and Videos here but I don't think that would have anything to do with avi formats.

When I did get one avi to open, the software actually did a good job at capturing frames. I could select JPG or bitmap as the output file type. The browse slider was awkward for me. I have an optical mouse and it seems that I couldn't quite slide in small enough increments. However, the pan right and left function using the arrow keys helped somewhat.

All in all, I am disappointed in this software. I need video editing software that is genuinely capable of supporting all AVI formats so that I can fiddle with videos captured with my digital video camera, etc.

I appreciate BladedThoth's tip on VirtualDub. I've downloaded it and tested it and it is sweet. Cheers mate.

Kyle, this one needs to really have a thorough re-write before it's ready for use. Good luck!

This software is great, letting you convert files to DVD, burn to a CD. Extract a picture, extract the audio, and more! I would like to watch the movie in the program though.....

#46, just install a FLV codec/filter like ffdshow, which is included in the excellent Combined Community Codec Pack.

Then you can watch FLV's (preferably in zoom player which is also included) in full screen without that awful tearing and bad frame rate which can happen when you play it directly in the browser.

And this without having to convert anything.

#36 #41 - DVD's are MPG2 format, AVI Toolbox only processes a very small subset of the *.avi format (I think xviD and Divx only, but I know for a fact not Cinepac, AVID, or standard .AVI as produced by Studio (a pro-level video editing package) or Avid DV Express (a standard the rest of the industry measures itself by at over $3,000 just for the software part of the system).

In other words, this is a program for people who mostly are ripping a small segement of Internet based AVI files, but not the other 99% of the *.AVI format.

And what little fraction of the AVI format it does process it does very poorly. See Bladed Thoth's 15 Minute Review for details on that.

I agree with Bladed Thoth's recommendation that it is not even worth the free download.

It is a piece of crap.
I tried two large AVI files.
On the first file it just produced an Imagelist error ???
The second one did not do anything.
I don't understand how one can mess up such a simple user interface in such a terrible way.
My test was with Windows Vista: that could also be the culprit.

Good nifty little software....yet quite powerful
Though this software can't compare with robust like Blaze Media, it surely gives them a run for their money.....yet the price of the software is a little high.

Good software overall...no MPEG-2 converter though.

Hi, I tried to extract some pictures from an avi I took with my canon digicam, but there was only "Unable to extract frame" - WHY ?
No explanation, not any helpfile at all. KC 's VideoInspector did not help. - And so - I don't like programs which seems to have only one purpos - to sell other programs (here : Copy to DVD ...)
But nevertheless - I've got my pictures, there are some other progs on the marketplace ! For example (only pictures no sound):
MovieSnapshot

Anyway , thank you gaotd, it's nice I met you ;)

Thanks No.20 for turning me on to "Super" at the official site. What a program! Converted several FLV(flash) files to MPEG 1 for full size play on WMP in about 3 minutes. It looks like the Swiss Army Knife of video converters. Don't know how I missed this program for so long. Can't believe its freeware.

I am sort of interested in this, but have a question. I have archived/burned some of my AVI's to DVD using Roxio 9. I do this so I can watch'em on my 60" TV. Most work just great, but some that run fine on my laptop play upside down on the DVD Player attached to a TV. Will this program help me fix these AVIs?

This program installs fine and has a small footprint. Unfortunately, this only works on a small fraction of AVI files that I had errors like Indice ImageList incorrect, Unable to extract frame, and etc.

My comment concerns the SUPER video converter by erightsoft. The website by www.witcobber.com (comment#14) is a scam, and has been reported to erightsoft. This is a good example of how easy someone can be had. It pays to check out the publisher's website AND a web search first before downloading any software. I hope this helps someone.

Before I download this, I have a question. I am intereted in editing DVD movies so that some of the words and/or scenes not suitable for children can be removed, when the rest of the movie is fine. Will this software do that? or is there any free software which can do that?

Thanks in advance,

I think the best video editor should be Movavi Video Suite, it can convert video, trim movie, capture video, crop movie, create data disc, even burn DVDs. No other video tool needed.
Here is series of guide about this software:

Amateur Hour Deluxe. AVI Toolbox does not work on true AVI files, Cinepac, or other true AVI formats as created by Pinnacle Studio (Studio), AVID DV Express (AVID), or even MS Movie Maker (MSMM).

In fact, In my entire collection of thousands of videos representing about a dozen different types of AVI file, I never found a single one that did not give the error, "Unable to extract frame".

In twenty minuites of testing, I found only one single AVI file in my collection that AVI Toolbax would load: it was a short (30 sec) PAL video of a format that is used mostly in Western Europe, but not the rest of the world. Oddly, the video AVI Toolbox _would_ load is unplayable in Windows Media Player (or Winamp for that matter), and will not load in AVID, Studio or MSMM.

AVI Toolbox is of interest to pretty much no one but the rank amateur, given that it can not load AVI video (of any of about a dozen standard formats) produced by two professional video editing systems (AVID costs about $3,000) ... or even that produced by MSMM.

If anyone has actually loaded an AVI file, please let us know what type AVI you managed to load: where in the world did it come from, what program produced it, what player you were able to play the video with previously, WHAT PART OF THE WORLD ARE YOU IN, etc. Just saying that you had no problem loading an AVI file is useless.

I am not able to load my avi file(chip captured which I am able to load in windows movie maker). When I load it says 'Unable to exract frame' Now if I can not even load my avi file then there is no question of further usage of this software. So I am unistalling it. Dispointing.

Download and install went fine. The use of this program is something else. It will give me a "Indice Images Incorrect..." for eight out of ten files I try to process... This tells me nothing, being the digidiot I am....
3 out of ten points... if it does what it's supposed to do... fine, but this one gives me no help what so ever...

It captures a frame/picture nicely, it couldn't play the video though thus, you can't hear the video and accurately begin and end at your preferred frame. Also, it splits nicely too. I'm not sure with the resizing though. It is as simple as it says it is.

Very Simple Program that anyone can probably use without any problems.
It does basic stuff you might want to do when you want to edit a video of yours.
But I don't feel so excited about this program cause it does very basic stuff. Plus I feel sorry for people who pays for this software outside of GAOTD.
Because over the years I found better software people and programmers created for free just for us to use.

Like these programs:

Avidemux2 - Can do most of what the above program can.
Avisplit Classic - Extracts Videos
Avitricks Classic - Same as Avidemux2
Avitoolbar - Same as Avidemux2
Super - For Use of Converting Video Files from Anything to Anything
and especially
Virtualdub - Give you more functions to use including good video editing abilities.

All these programs are free to use and would help video amateurs of this time.

These programs are designed for Windows from probably 98 to Vista.
