People have indirectly mentioned that this won't install on 64-bit versions of Windows, at least recent versions, because the driver isn't signed. Using unsigned code, much less unsigned drivers, is a stunningly bad software development practice. The developer should know that this won't work on modern 64-bit OSes.

After giving this a good review yesterday I have now had to uninstall this from my system due to it using a driver that is not a "digitally signed driver". Windows 7 wont allow me to use any driver unless it is so digitally signed. I just hope it does not cause me any other problems!

The free version 6 of Avast! added automatic sandboxing of unknown applications that try to perform actions common to known malware. It doesn't mean the file is bad, it lets you decide. If you run the file sandboxed it will not be able to make any changes to the system. In other words, a sandboxed installer will not be able to actually install anything. You have to choose to run the file normally and then it will work.

I installed this product with few problems. I had no difficulty in getting the serial number from the company web site. One irritant was that there was a pop-up window informing me this was not Microsoft certified compatible; however the window appeared under the other installation windows and I had to go digging to try and find why the installation had paused.

Once installed, I tried to use the record feature to see what the software was capable of. I was surprised there was no sound level indicator while the recording was in progress. While this would have been very nice, it isn't strictly essential. After recording for about ten seconds, I tried to play back the recording and heard... nothing. After poking around a little, and looking over the Advanced settings, I found that the sound device has not been set to my Logitech headset (what idiot put something as basic as the input device selection under the Advanced menu). I changed the input and repeated the recording test several times. This time... the same thing happened; nothing but silence. I already have all the utilities I need that don't work, so I think this one goes in the dust bin. I was glad I hadn't paid money for the product. I may work for others; but for me it was unfortunately a disappointing waste of time.

While the interface was decent, I did not find it easy or intuitive to locate features I might want. It felt like I had to hunt for items that should have been easy to find. Given that I could not make the product work, I uninstalled it and then ran Advanced System Care Pro to see what garbage got left in the registry. I was pleasantly surprised. Only one Invalid Shortcut was detected (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu2\Programs\VoizGame). Most uninstalls are fairly messy, this one seems to be pretty good.

If this works for you, great. If not, be glad you didn't pay for it. I look forward to a future version of this product that is a little more robust, with better human factors interface, and which actually works.

Thanks for your earlier post. There are 3 flavors of this software, Basic, Gold and Diamond, the one you use. When looking at the comparison table, I noticed that the Diamond version had the below abilities the Gold lacked:

Morph multiple files at a time
Convert file format of multiple files at a time
Frequency Morpher (2-dimension graph)
Formant Morpher (Pitch, Smoothing, 4 Formant bands)
Voice Equalizer (HiStrech, LowStrech, LoShift, Smoothing)
Robot Voice (Frequency & Balance)
Sound Limiter (Release & Attached time)
Noise Reduction (Reduction & Threshold)

But I didn't understand how the above features doubled the software's value from roughly $40 to $100 (possibly because of a lack of prior bckg in this type of software).
I'd appreciate it if you (or any other contributor) would give a brief explanation to help a neophyte choose between the two.

Thanks

@philip turn down your mixer volume settings to reduce feedback and yes headphones are a must.

This software works very well especially once you get into the fine tuning options. I'm sure with the proper settings this would make a fine set up for voice creation to make game character voices. Overall I really like the quality of the program.

Stability was a bit of an issue as the program did crash on me more than once.

@#29 (Jeania)
Hi jeania just thought I'd mention avast has been asking me if I want to sandbox stuff too recently - even when just opening some of my programs that I've had for ages that I know are perfectly safe.
Without encouraging you to ignore avast's warnings completely of course, I wouldn't worry too much. Perhaps because of some update of the avast program sandboxing is now going to be a more regularly suggested option.
(I too have found that you can't open a program in the sandbox that you want to install because yes you won't be able to find it!)
Good luck whatever you decide.

This is not so great. It doesn't show up on their site as a product its so damn old, and I'm not too enthusiastic about how well it'll work overall. The packs of voices it says you can download don't work with this program, you have to buy their flagship one instead. I'm going to keep it for now, but its not all that good. If you need to register, read the readme...

#3: "Requires some kind of registration at their website where they send you a serial number. When I entered my info, it said my email was invalid and I could go no further..."

While it's certainly possible that was an early glitch [I was asleep at the time of posting], when I tested later their web page/site was not picky at all... Some of the cable ISPs make you use longer addresses, e.g. (at) twmi.rr.com , which doesn't always work with registration filters, so this is something I always look at. Since the number appears right there on the page once you submit your info, imagine you could always use one of those temp e-mail address services.

#13: "Sorry to stick a downer on this but, doesnt VoizGame throw up child protection issues, especially as its using ingame chat?"

Yes, & I think that's why for a long time [years in fact] you didn't see voice changing software available -- it just sort of disappeared. That said, it's always been possible for predators to disguise themselves, hopefully parents/guardians know that, & both oversight & parental controls are used... WOW has them, but it does take some small effort on the part of parents/guardians. The flip side of the coin is why should everyone be penalized just so they don't have to bother?

* * *

#18: "... will it work as a standalone ie without using it in a game?"

Yes. Think of it as an FX box you plug your mic [or line in cable] into, then plug the box into your PC/laptop. Your mileage may vary -- Google/Bing &/or check out forums re: AVnex software -- as it doesn't apparently work right out of the box with all hard & software on every system, but it should hopefully just act as a go between, sit in the middle between your audio in & out, whether that *out* is your speakers, an audio file, or an app/service.

* * *

#20: "I’m certainly not confident enough on my own so I need a product to boost my ego! Is this virtual viagra? No thank you."

:-) I take it then that you're not 11-12 years old & going through your voice change. ;-)

On a more serious note, I did read that when voice chat 1st became available within WOW, most female gamers stuck with text. I do not know how true that is/isn't [please don't be one of those who like to shoot the messenger].

* * *

#21: "... however I’m still waiting for the registration e-mail"

??? - serial number or key shows up on the web page when you click the button to submit your info.

#23: "This installer set off my avast antivirus software, and when I ran the program threatfire alerted on it. I uninstalled, hope I didnt damage my system. "

AV VoizGame can use its own driver or a Hook mode -- AV software doesn't always like Hooks -- Google/Bing on "Software Hooks" & you get hits like: Wikipedia http://goo.gl/mVoI7 . AFAIK the only thing today's GOTD can/will do that might effect Windows is installing its virtual driver -- search for & delete or rename vcsvad.sys for the quickest way to get rid of it.

The link in the readme file in the zip opens a page that gives you the s/n right as soon as you click the submit button (used Chrome).

Program works great, fun to play around with =) Works in Skype (selected the program's audio driver for the mic in inside of Skype), but there's a delay when a voice change is selected (understandably).

Disappointed that there's no "robot" monotone voice, since those were always the most fun in the voice changer toys, but what it has is fun to play with!

AV VoizGame is not something that's limited to game chat -- it works with your audio input, provides a 10 band equalizer, & lets you change timbre & pitch graphically. It includes a recorder, a player, can save presets, & provides it's own Virtual Audio Driver -- you can use either hook mode or that driver. Additionally you can play background audio -- 15 small .wav files are included [e.g. waterfall.wav or thunder.wav] or you can use your own .wav files. Long story short it's a software equivalent of plugging in a FX box between your mic [or other input/line-in] & your PC/laptop. [I don't know if AV Voizgame &/or its virtual audio driver can provide any sort of solution for those who cannot record speaker out -- I'm waiting on a USB audio device I've ordered so I can maybe test that sort of thing in a VM where my audio hardware will not interfere.]

Installation isn't bad for software that adds a driver. Note that adding any driver can have sometimes serious consequences, since Windows loads drivers while it's starting up, & if something doesn't work right, Windows won't start. That said I was able to delete AV VoizGame's driver [vcsvad.sys] & Windows didn't mind, started right up without problems, which means IMHO you're unlikely to have any problems, & if you do, it's easier to correct by just deleting that file [you'll find it in Windows\ System32\ Drivers]. Being able to just delete the driver file is also a good thing, as the default Auto Uninstall doesn't. The program's folder includes a Driver sub-folder with setup for 32 & 64 bit Windows.

Universal Extractor doesn't work with the Wise setup package, so I don't know what's included [I like to check because if the Windows where I'm testing already has something installed, it won't show up comparing before/after snapshots]. The AV VoizGame program folder holds 52 files, 10 folders, & takes up ~10 MB. Installing *Just for me*, the default, a new Avnex folder was added to User Applicatio Data that holds ~9 MB in 20 files, 5 folders -- it's where settings & background .wav files are stored [it's also left behind by the default uninstall]. I recorded 439 new registry entries, but roughly half of those are garbage, like muicache. Resource usage isn't bad, but this isn't something you'd likely want running when you're not using it on slower PCs/laptops -- it shows a constant ~10% CPU in the XPMode VM using 1 core of an AMD quad. While I haven't performed much of any testing, AV VoizGame will run without its included driver installed. Registration is super easy -- you visit the URL included in the GOTD Readme.txt file, enter a name & e-mail address, type in the matching letters/numbers [for one of the more readable Captcha dialogs I've seen], & your serial number's displayed, right then, right there.

Verified with the in-house WOW fan, changing your voice in-game has a somewhat high lame quotient. OTOH you might feel that's still better than using your own voice -- it's hard to build up cred if you sound like a 10 year old, & girls/women I think often don't want to give away their gender on-line & especially in-game. If you've got one of those PCs/laptops that does not allow you to record speaker out, it might be worth it to you to test AV VoizGame & its driver -- VoizGame itself can be turned on/off while still running, &/or you don't have to use it to change anything. If you do recording [or want to], that equalizer might come in handy too. And there's nothing I can see that would limit what apps or services you can use it with.

Huge concern...it sounded quite interesting to check out, however Avast is recommending sandboxing it, as it's potentially unsafe (and it won't actually 'install' due to that, I sure can't find it after)

Can I please ask what this is about? This is a very worried person here, as I've never even seen Avast recommend sandboxes :/ I'd love to give feedback, but I need to know that first.

No probs in downloading or running this software on my Windows 7. Didn't even have to wait for email as their page took me direct to a page with all the registration details I needed. Initial testing seems to suggest I will be able to record results, although I must get rid of the echo from my mike and headphones. How useful, maybe for some cartoon characters, we'll see!

First I have a small relationship with this company; second, this program does just what it says; it will alter your voice in real time to a virtually endless variety of voices. Create your own presets or use theirs, switch sexes, age, robotic, animalistic, or weird, easily set by positioning a pointer on a grid. Yes of course, it's a limited software because it has specific uses, in-game voice control being the big one. The interface will take some getting used to, but with a little practice your guild members and fellow travellers will be wondering how did you do that. You can try any of their software for free. I use the video morpher, the music morpher and the Voice Changer Diamond programs all the time, and I think they are unique and well done, and purchased software gets great tech support. These programs are not for everyone, but anyone who wants to manipulate audio and video should check all their wares out. This is for voice manipulation in MMRPGs.

Hahahahahaha!! Great for a laugh!!

I had no problems either downloading, installing or registering.

As I don't 'game', I'm afraid I can't offer a useful assessment on that front... but for sheer amusement, this is a great little program!! :D

I tried all of the voices in the male and female options, and some in the 'special' categories of 'Animals' and 'Fabulous creatures', and I ended up in pleats af laughter.

Highly recommended even if it's used simply as a mood-lifter... hahahahahaha!

A fun little toy. Can see how could use it for an animation.

But all the female voices for me sounded like aliens talking through electronic synthesizers. But the male and some of the special voices sounded pretty good. For me (I am male), the higher the pitch voice, the more the vibrating electronic/synthetic voice. But the deeper bass voices sounded smoother and a bit more realistic.

Some of the names for the preset voices do not even come close to sounding like their name. I mean Hobbit sounds like a synthvoice Leprechaun and Orc sounds like a smooth, cool, slow talking sales man, not a creature that will rip your head off in order to eat you for fun.

Did crash the program when I moved the Advance tune slider all tyhe way to the left and there is a scale to the right of the volume scale (has M & S on the bottom and 8000 & 48000 on the side that would garble the voices up everytime I clicked on it, I needed to click the Advance Tune bar to clear up the sound.

It would also help when you pick a sound that it is listed somewhere, for as i was going through all the preset voices, I kept forgetting which one I had just tested, as after awhile some of the voices sounded similar to others (bear, orc, dragon...)

Installation got as far as launching a dos/command prompt window to install a driver but no activity showed up in that window, it just eventually disappeared with no mention of successful install. Very odd.
Opened program, registered okay and serial # displayed immediately on reg site, not via email so I'm guessing email is for future spam?
Microphone seems to handshake since volume indicator fluttered when I spoke but playback is silent so something didn't work. Would be nice if there was a voice wizard so we could hear immediately what a voice sounds like, not have to actually play back a recording. How many freaking record/playback cycles would it take to create the voice you're hoping to achieve???
If this can only be used in a game, then I have no use for it. Would have preferred the Voice Changer Software 7 instead of this as I'd like to do some funny voice overs in presentations and holiday greetings.
One suggestion: Perhaps the designer could shrink the size of the little recording device a bit more... a couple of letters on the GUI are still legible without an electron microscope. (kidding... MAKE THE DARN TEXT LARGER SO WE DON'T NEED AN ELECTRON MICROSCOPE!)

Today’s giveaway should appeal to online gamers. I’ll certainly be trying it out when I next play Left 4 Dead or ArmA II, it sounds like it’ll add some fun to the online chat (we used TeamSpeak), though I won’t be able to give an opinion of it in time for today’s giveaway. It’s not the sort of giveaway that you can test on yourself. :)

Unfortunately there is no Game giveaway this weekend, however Chazzo and Myself have posted some great games over the past few weeks, some of which were originally commercial games that have either been given away by their developers or become abandonware.
There’s a really good tycoon game called Ski Resort Tycoon, a gorgeously illustrated adventure game called Les Misérables, A professionally made top down shooter called Steel Storm: Episode 1. (The developer has released three in the series and decided to give the first one away, an updated RPG called Battle for Wesnoth, a futuristic and superfast racing game with missiles and guns called Rollcage, a series of Jill of the Jungle platform games (these are DOS based games that may require the use of DOSBox), a couple more shooters called A Stitch in Time and Light the Way plus a puzzle action shmup called Protractor (these are all on the same page and can be found by clicking on the Light the Way link, you’ll also find a long list of games in the same post we are planning to post over the coming weeks). There’s a really good platformer with great graphics called Privates, a set of Rubik Cube puzzles called The Ultimate Magic Cube and a DOS based puzzle game called Clone. On the next page you’ll find even more quality freebies such as Aces High over Verlor Island and Blue Max 3D two excellent aircraft shooters, an evolution game called Evolites, plus several more games which I’ll just list: Dirchie Kart, Armoured Brigade, Jigsaw (puzzle Platformer), Flight Gear (Updated recently), a series of Sci Fi adventure games called 1213 episodes 1,2 & 3, Greymatter, Iffermoon, Hitchhikers Guide, 3D StarStrike and finally another freebie from Good Old Games (GOG) called Dragonsphere (a point and click fantasy adventure game.

I'll post a link to the games discussion forums in the next post just in case the spam filter throws it out. :)

The "current" version of this has been around since Dec '08. It received reasonably good reviews from users at cnet, with no negative comments there or at softpedia.
Probably not useful for most adults here, but vendor claims, "This software is compatible with most chat applications such as Ventrilo, Teamspeak, Roger Wilco, Yahoo Messenger, MSN..

This installed fine on my Vista 64 laptop but I am out of town and had to test it using the built in mic. It's a fun little toy. These can be annoying to others if you make your voice too crazy but it's pretty advance considering it was made in 2008 and doesn't appear to have been updated since.

It does install a driver in case that matters to you.

Even if your not a gamer it can be fun, especially for kids. Their site has some cool freeware applications as well as some nice premium products too.
