Ive used it heaps of times and its been a great tool. Sure it doesnt backup registry etc but its excellent for backing up a user profile for use after a reinstall or installation of a new PC

Auto Backup Pro is a portable app installed by default to the C:\AutoBackup6Pro -- the GOTD setup.exe just opens a WinRAR window that expands the files into that folder. This file backup app is intended to transfer user profiles & files to a new Windows device or a new Windows installation, though you don't have to use it for that. The developer's included a PDF User's Guide.

There is no built-in way to create a bootable USB stick or CD/DVD. Auto Backup Pro comes with a Command Line Builder, which is a separate app that lets you select what you want to happen when you run Auto Backup Pro from a command line interface [CLI], then save the results as a .cmd file you can run. So you should be able to run Auto Backup Pro itself, or using those .cmd files, from bootable USB sticks or CDs/DVDs you can create following DIY instructions online, e.g. using WinPE. Using .cmd files you've created you could also automate whatever, using anything from batch or script files to Windows Task Scheduler.

Mainly for techs doing on-site IT-related work [at least initially I think], there are several projects at reboot[.]pro to create portable mini versions of Windows, complete with a desktop. One of the 1st tools available [back when XP was current] is called WinBuilder -- it uses your copy of the Windows setup disc, uses universal driver packs [so Windows isn't tied to a single device like it normally is], and it includes some basic apps, along with ways to add more. This sort of thing works, & works pretty well, though it's been years since I played with it. My concern is how much trouble it might give some folks booting nowadays.

Today devices [other than phones] that can run Windows have either a legacy bios, a UEFI bios, or a sort of hybrid combining the 2. You also have secure boot and different implementations of a compatibility mode, plus no bios is perfect -- they all include design compromises, & most all include at least a couple of bugs. It's one thing to install Windows or Linux, where setup looks at the system & sets up the OS's boot loader -- it's another to try to create a USB stick or CD/DVD that will work, let alone work on more than one device.

I *think* that anyone going the WinBuilder route **might** be best off creating an ISO, setting up a Windows 10 WinPE USB stick, or a CD/DVD ISO, then using EasyBCD to add the WinBuilder created ISO to the boot menu. The Windows 10 version of WinPE is generally pretty compatible, working with all 3 kinds of bios, though some devices will *only* work with the 32 or 64 bit versions.

Worthless for recovery. It doesn't create a system image, which is the entire drive contents (OS, reg, progs, files, etc) so what good is it? You might just as well run Windows own native backup, as it does the same thing, in other words: nothing to save you when you've crashed completely. Tanx but no tanx.

I've use Backupper for years and it's saved my bacon a number of times. As an extra precaution, after backing up to an "external Drive" disconnect the drive from your PC so there is no chance if it being infected my malware.

This does not rescue your PC if your OS crashes for whatever reasons.
You need to reinstall your OS first.
Once you reinstall your OS, it is not a "rescue" anymore.
You have moved on into a "recovery" phase.
That is, your previous PC incarnation is officially dead.
You are then merely picking up the pieces of the dead body of your PC.
Only after you reinstall the OS, can you use this to restore the non-OS files.

Since I use a bare metal backup & recovery software Acronis, no need for this giveaway software.

This is not one click backup, I just tried it, it is very easy to make million mistakes especially if you do cross user backup. The set up before back up is confusing and very intimidating. There is no incremental back up and all old files may be deleted automatically. The user accounts from other hard drive may not allow you to backup as stated and the restore is just as confusing and intimidating as the backup.
There as so many variable that must be attend to before and after restoration and on top of that you may create cross linked files without registry keys and may not work when restored.
All in all, if you are not experienced user or familiar with such cross the board file and folder back up, this software may not be for you.

Note to the developer, backing up e-mails or outlook express is not a needed feature, What we need to backup is the registries, partitions and or program files. Data files must be backed up incrementally and the dates should not be used as anchor points for restoring old data, it creates multiple files of the same folder(s).

Vista's DEP (Data Execution Prevention) process stops me running GOTD's setup program for this and many other day's downloads over the last few months. It's not virus protection, seems to be something to do with the way GOTD is now packaging the download. It's not reasonable to have to turn off DEP for each download as this requires a reboot; doesn't always work anyway.

I can sometimes get round it by downloading the zip from the makers site directly, and using the activation code in the accompanying text file on that. This time though the file is only available by ordering, and there is no code in this case anyway.

well that was a flop. only activates the program but does not download the program to activate it. sounds like they just want your email addy to sell. really disappointed.

Easy install, no need to jump through hoops to register, registration is automatic, big bonus. Nice clean uncluttered UGI very easy to use and lest you select what you want to back up and restore. This is not your regular backup program like Arconis and the likes it lets you back your files and then restore them if you were doing a reinstall of your o/s. Both back up and restore operations are very fast, it's a pity there isn't a scheduler but a great piece of software to have. This would be useful to anyone thinking of upgrading to Windows 10 as the rollback destroys a lot of your files. Thanks very much for this.
