Hmm, I threw in a Bach mp3 which according to mp3tag and audioshell is tagged.
Audiograil's tag editor found.. zilch. No tags. Nada.
Wild guess.. maybe it doesn't like ':' in a tag, as another mp3 I tried with no ':' in the tags worked.

Rather useless to me as it's not unicode compatible.
Adding two mp3's with Latin letters in path and filename, but Chinese characters in the tag is shown in the GUI as ???? ????? ?????
Trying to add mp3's with Chinese characters in the filename fails - the log file claims
File does not exist : H:\Music\Chinese popular\Cai Chun Jia (Joi Chua, Joi Tsai) ( ???)\???? - Cai Chunjia ???.mp3
Filename is 梦在手里 - Cai Chunjia 蔡淳佳.mp3

Does this do tagging by acoustic fingerprinting (e.g. "listening" to the song and identifying the song automatically)? I can't tell what it means by "Automatic Song Identification and tagging." Sometimes this just refers to tagging using the file name.
If not, what do people do for automatic song identification?

AudioGrail (Formerly K-MP3) is the "Swiss army knife for everything that is related to audio files". I have to disagree with you there, that acclaim goes to this - http://www.poikosoft.com/. They do a free version or a better full paid version you choose.

Managed to download/install/register this program. However, it seems impossible to put any audio files into it(!) so as to try any of its features.
Also, when looking for its Help/Instruction files they just don't download from the KC Software website.

Hate Relevant Knowledge.
Why so many utilities of questionable function?

KC Software offers are loaded with a minefield of crapware/spyware and dodgy uninstallation cleanup. You have been warned. Sandbox required.

It looks like an OK program, but there are a lot of other, more polished and modern media players out there in my opinion.
I personally use the free version of Media Monkey, it does more than todays giveaway and supports WinAmp plugins to add even more functionality. My second chioce is good ol' Foobar2000 it's always being developed and refined with more options and addons than I've ever needed.
But then what I like and you like/need might be completely different. I guess thats part of why there are so many programs to choose from. GOTD introduces me to so many new companies and their software plus the feedback from everyone who takes the time to make thoughtful comments has made this a daily stop for me.

I experimented a little with AudioGrail. I tend to use a combination of FooBar, Exact Audio Copy, MP3Tag, Advanced Renamer, AudioTester, and Duplicate Cleaner for managing/ audio files for playback with FooBar or XBMC (all excellent and free) so my views/expectations will no doubt be coloured accordingly.
I dumped a load of lossless (which thanks to MP3Tag and AudioTester I know to be valid and tagged flac/ape)into AG. Although it kept a mental list of these (and didn't log any errors with the files) it only showed around 5% of the files. The reason appearing to be that - despite the claims - AG doesn't properly recognise flac.
.
I tried the same with MP3s (AG correctly logged a handful of invalid files) and seemed to produce a +/- complete list in its window.
The quality analysis tool incorrectly suggested that all files (flacs and mp3s)had bit and sample rates of 0.
The duplicate finder works its way through the list of drag and dropped files (not just those the program recognises). User input is needed as to what to do for each set of multiples, rather than your being resented with a list at the end of a complete scan (which would be more useful if you're checking your entire collection).
You can right click to play a track or album (via an external player) but the 'Play' tool seems to work on an album or the entire list. On the other hand I couldn't get the jukebox tool to play at all.
Whilst you can use the missing tags tool (to do the obvious thing), it doesn't seem to be possible to set all the tracks in an album to the same year (although this would be easier with FreeDB which works fine.
In general, it seems that I can accomplish what I want more easily via a combination of free apps. Obviously, the failure to recognise healthy flacs is a bit of a problem.

Can it find "essentially duplicate" files? For example - MP3 files that have possibly different tags but identical audio content?

Pretty decent program to manage your MP3 files and edit your tags.
Can also automatically find albums covers on the net.
So for what it does I give it a THUMBS UP!!
25$?? Come on.....

Then, to prevent the so called "decomposition" of MP3 albums on a tag-sorting portable player, due to the presence of possible TAG ERRORS causing duplicate or missing albums, artists and tracks, just install this magic FREE tool (supports FULL UNICODE):

KC Softwares? No, thanks. Their installers contain various "extras" such as RelevantKnowledge, etc.

For your information:
* You can download the standard installer and use the registration name/key given here.
* You can skip the small survey the standard installer presents to you. You don't have to fill it in.
* The standard installer tries to install other software. You can skip that by closing the window by pressing the cross in the upper right corner.
