I downloaded the program and had to uninstall it when I read the notice that this free version allowed only 40 seconds of recording. What good is that?

Installing this made Advanced Audio Recorder (which interface, by the way, is strangely similar to Audio Recorder Titanium) unregistered. I tried registering AAR with the same reg code as with ART - and it worked! So I just assume it's the same program in another skin. Still, it's quite nice.

Love the program! EASY to use. I had several cassette tapes, which were recorded in 1984. These were conversations with my grandfather and very precious to me. Thankfully, the tapes were still intact, and Audio Recorder Titanium processed them perfectly. They are now in MP3 format and ready to be preserved and shared with other family members. Highly recommend to everyone.

Thank you for the audio utility program, and I appreciate the simplicity of the program. I hope to use the program to convert some of my OLD (analog) recordings to a more applicable (digital) format.
Again --- THANK YOU.

Vista64 - Pressing Register button takes me to the manufacturer website where there is no information about how to register this software. Uninstalled, reinstalled, same result, uninstalled, reinstalled, same result. On the day of a software offering, the manufacturer's website should include a GAOTD reference page with helpful information. This manufacturer's website Support page only offers a email form. It is now 5 minutes from the end of this software offering, and I have not received an answer about why I cannot register this software.

Too bad it doesn't record streaming audio nor both people in a phone conversation! Seems to me any recorder on my PC should do recording of anything coming thru sound card! If not, why not? I do appreciate the chance to give it a try though!

Thanks much, GOTD & AAT Tech! :)

Use one prog to record yourself and the other prog to record the other person and then later batch the two together. Not perfect, but should work.

I can't get it to install without crashing the MS registration server (the software in the OS that registers files in the registry). Tried it as "admin" -- nothing running. -- safe mode --- doesn't matter. Crashed everytime and left me with NO WORKING SOUND. So I uninstalled and rolled everything back - thumbs down.

per the Help Quick Tour:

"A new recording will be stored in a temporay file on the hard disk. When you click on the Stop button, the new recording will automatically be created. when you want to edit the recorded file, you can click the 'Edit Audio Files' button...."

Okay,took me a bit to find that it downloaded to "My Documents \ My Music" You can select the location under options button \ general settings. And it makes the recording by date and time.

But I can't figure out WHERE the edit button is???

Excellent.
I found it to be good for one reason mainly:
it is simple, yet flexible.
I LOVE the office 2007 UI, and this shortens the learning curve significantly. However, also it has enough features to do all essential tasks.

One thing which I am still looking for is midi editing software. Does anyone know a good one?

Thanks.

I get an ACM Driver Error literally every time I try to record something. This goes for literally every single thing that I've tried to record, and this is after I've completely registered the program.

Nice job on this one guys. Judging by the comments I've read, this product sucks.

This is a re-post as it appears my previous comment has was either lost or not accepted for some reason. I don't want to be an alarmist but when I tried to install this giveaway PC Tools Spyware Doctor pop-up asking me if I wanted to Allow or Block the install. I blocked it and here is a copy of the History log:-

Threat Name - Trojan.generic.A!ct
Details - Spyware Doctor has blocked an application attempting to read from a file.
Risk Level - Medium
Infection - C:\PROGRAM FILES\AUDIO RECORDER TITANIUM\CDBURNER.EXE

None of my other scan/guard programs has detected any problem nor could I find any info on Spyware Doctor forum. I would like to install the program but have my doubts now. Maybe it is just a false alert? Can anyone help? Does anyone else use Spyware Doctor and have had same alert?

I'd say this is a rip-off of the freeware program Free Audio Editor 2009.

The four Tutorial links in Free Audio Editor 2009 lead to detailed tutorial pages on their website, whereas the four Tutorial links in today's Audio Recorder Titanium lead only to small sections in the installed help file.

Ignat Titus - In Free Audio Editor 2009, you can find Batch Converter and File Merger in the File menu. (My version of Free Audio Editor 2009 is 6.8.8)

I thought this was going to be a good programme but it seems to hang on the date. The error is

"21-Jun-09" is not a valid date.

In Canada it is a valid date. I tried to switch to the US format but I still get the same error. I will try a little more but if the programme only wants a US date then I am sorry but I can't give this a thumbs up if the programmers think that the world revolves around the US of A.

#30, Cad Delworth CEng MBCS CITP, no point in getting bent out of shape about the spelling errors. Most of these NCT DLL based audio recorders/editors have exactly the same spelling mistakes (common code). Regarding the recording levels, with this program (which has different names and different abbreviations in different places in the installation and documentation) I always have to set the recording device, it always starts with the wrong one (at least it displays the wrong one), and I have no idea where the recording levels are coming from--the displayed values don't match the recording source at all.

On an unrelated topic, since we've had some "cleaners" lately, and people have complained about Vista not remembering folder views, I find SP2 does pretty well, at least for Microsoft code. As I've stated previously, most of the stuff which people who don't know anything about computers "clean" is tracking information and settings which are used by Windows, including remembering such things as window sizes and positions, folder views, recently-used files per-application, etc. So you only have yourself to blame if you throw that information away.

Regarding Vista UAC, I used to turn off the privilege elevation prompts via TweakUAC, which slightly compromises security but makes Vista useable, with the annoyance that Vista complains that UAC is off when it isn't. Recently, I've been testing the UAC Tool from Norton Labs. This can be used to remember the response to specific UAC prompts, so it requires some training, compromises security much less than TweakUAC, and doesn't cause Vista to complain that UAC is turned off.

This & similiar programs work *if* your sound system is supported. If Audio Recorder Titanium does not work with your computer, you need something that uses its own audio driver. The free "Ask & Record Toolbar" from Applian would work as well as the other pay Applian software & Total Recorder. Pro's for the "Ask & Record Toolbar" is that it works. Con's is that there is no timer, and people do not like adding toolbars to their browser.

Of course wtih free products, you have to do everything manually. If you are willing to pay, the best products can do everything automatically in that you just need to have your computer turned on.

I always read the fine print the developer gives about the activation
procedure as there are subtle differences in these procedures to
activate. This proggie activated flawlessly on XPsp3. It also worked
fine on first test. I set the bit rate at 320 (highest quality)as I
have a little more than half a terabyte storage. I recorded a jazz
tune off of NPR (streaming radio) and the record quality was just
fine. I still have IRecordMax from an earlier offering and that
works fine also. I may like the editor included with this AAT
proggie a bit more.(It's very user friendly for those not used to
doing audio edits. Anyway,THANKS to GAOTD and AAT for this fine
giveaway. A note to newcomers..(PLEASE read the installation and
activation procedures and follow them to the T and most of these
negative posts will just disappear!!} Also, I am not the best
speller in my own language (English) so I don't take mispellings
to seriously from people who write code and also write user guides
in a second language. Give em a break folks, unless you also write
code and speak and spell in several languages. (Just my 2 cents.)
And for all you Audacity freaks, yes, that is a fine full featured
editor,but it is made for much tougher editing than just picking
up some streaming audio and most lay-users don't have the time or
the need to grapple the intense learning curve of a full featured
editor. I have been using Pro Tools and Cakewalk Sonar,Stienburg
Cubase,Sony Acid, and other huge proggies for years and I still am
learning all the subtle tweaks these "monster" programs offer. They
cost huge bucks and use a lot of resources. The small,tidy,simple
programs like this AAT offering have a definate usefulness for most
people,including me.

Installed and activated with no problems on Vista Home Prem 32bit using admin.

I've been looking for a good audio grabber program that would work with Vista since I got this PC in November 2008 and THIS is the first one that I have found that ACTUALLY works!!! Have tried many freeware options and some other GOTD offerings over the last few months, but nothing else would record decent sound from over the internet. I tried this to grab some sound effects, music and other sounds from three different sites and all were clear and free of echos, static and other sounds that I had encounterd with other programs. Also glad that this will grab from Real Player as they aren't always easy to convert to mp3 or wav.

This is a great program and I for one am thrilled to finally have a quality recording program that works with Vista!!!

Thank You GOTD and AAT Technology This is awesome! *****

I use "Total Recorder" and it does more than just record audio. You can use it to change the bit rate of other audio recordings and you can change/add/remove tags with it. I have been using Total Recorder for years and it is still my first choice in PC recording. I have even used it to record the audio clips from a DVD. I am not saying what GOTD is offering today is not good ... I am just saying there are other programs available and I totally love what I am using.

#11: "one other thing—if you have a decent sized hard drive—-set the recorder to 24 bit wav or ogg formats—-then convert to mp3 with the editor—-it sounds a lot better that way"

Recording real 24 bit depends on your hardware, & then (if your hardware can actually record 24 bit) it may require special setup in the driver controls. The advantage is you have more data to work with during editing, assuming your software doesn't convert to 16 bit internally), much like many scanners will scan your photos at 48 bit if you want to. If you're not editing, and the extra data is just dumped on conversion to MP3 or whatever, you're just making extra work.

By Real 24 bit recording I mean the signal's digitized as 24 bit, & stays that way until & as written to your disc. Most sound cards & chips work internally at 16 bit -- in that case you're worse off trying to record at 24 bit because 16 bit audio is converted to artificial 24 bit, which takes processor power, adds errors, and adds zero quality. It's like comparing a regular DVD to Blu Ray... a player might up-sample a DVD to fill an HDTV screen, but the quality's just not anywhere near the same as Blu Ray, which has the resolution to start with.

* * *

#25: "It could have if it installed its own pseudo sound card driver that sat between the real sound chipset drivers and the windows sound subsystem and T’d off an record input pin. But it does not so it is not worth purchassing for many users of modern systems that have been crippled at the behest of the music industry."

Many motherboards, laptop or PC, use an extremely inexpensive audio chip, coupled with the least expensive to design & implement circuitry possible, & if you're lucky, semi-workable drivers. IMHO that's the buyer's, not the developers' fault. Perhaps buy an (often inexpensive) add-on, or save rather than record whatever stream? Either gives you better quality to begin with.

* * *

#27: "I am looking for a program which I can use to record voip phone calls (justvoip, voipwise = betamax)on my computer. so my voice as well as that of the person I am calling should be recorded to my harddisc."

While I'm pretty sure there are some specialized apps for that sort of thing (Google), If your hardware allows monitoring your input (meaning you can hear what you're saying into the mic with your headphones/headset), and if your hardware allows recording the signal going to the speakers/headphones (might be called what u hear, speakers etc depending on hardware & drivers), then this program or most any audio recorder should do.

* * *

#35: "I can’t change this program’s Audio Recording Source to record streaming audio from my web browser. It insists on recording from the microphone only"

Generally your input is set with or through your hardware drivers. Audio Recorder Titanium, or any other recording app can only record the signal from whatever's selected in your drivers -- exactly how you do that varies according to whatever hardware you've got. If you can''t find the mixer controls for your audio drivers, you *might* try going to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Volume tab -> [under Device volume] Advanced -> [in the mixer pop-up] Options menu -> Properties -> select Recording radio button -> Click OK -> then select your desired input & adjust the input volume.

* * *

#39: "I wonder if this program can record all what goes through your sound card"

yes

* * *

#40: "got a popup saying “Sorry! WaveIn device not installed"

There's something similar mentioned in the editor's help file -- might want to check it out. To me it sounds like the app's not seeing your audio input -- hardware, software, &/or compatibility problems?

Audio Recorder Titanium is another recorder / editor pair using the NCT code libraries that some have had problems with in Vista. As you'd expect, because they use the same libraries many (if not most) of the features & functions are the same as many other Recorder / Editor pairs, though this time with a GUI that may be easier to use, with a version of the famous, or infamous ribbon toolbar. Recording gives you the options of Automatic Gain Control & The Voice Active System... You want the recording levels as high as possible (amplifying your recording later makes noise more noticeable), but if volume gets too high you reach the ceiling, and everything over that level is literally cut off -- it's called clipping & Auto Gain Control helps prevent it. The Voice Active System tells the program not to record anything below a certain volume level, so if you're recording something like a Podcast, hopefully things like fan noise in the background won't show up.

The Editor gives you most of the basics, but many of the filters &/or FX don't give you enough control to do more than the minimum. In this respect the Equalizer for example is more like the Tone Control knob on an older stereo, rather than the sliders controlling individual frequency bands you're used to with real equalizers. The separate audio editor, EditCool.exe [a play on the famous CoolEdit now owned by Adobe?], has a batch conversion feature (handy), which also lets you merge separate audio files into 1, longer file... why you'd want to I don't know [if you regularly combine more than one file in a composition, you're usually better off with a multi-track app like the free Traverso DAW]. It does include a Volume Envelope, though in a separate window from the waveform, so using it might be a bit dicey. You'd use the envelope to change the volume in different parts of the audio file, versus changing the level for everything beginning to end. The most common use would be to dim the music track when the narrator is speaking.

Audio Recorder Platinum takes up ~ 17 MB with 39 files & 1 folder, plus 10.5 MB in 15 files intended for Windows' System32 folder -- those NCT dll files are the same as those used by other apps, so you may not see any gains in number of files or disc usage in the System32 folder. Additions to the registry are pretty light -- mostly file associations from the editor application. The editor's help file is useful, quickly explaining many of the Effects/Filters & how/why you'd use them, though it is a bit outdated -- it seems to refer to an earlier version of the program.

Comparisons... Audio Recorder Titanium is designed to be easy to use. The Editor that comes with Audio Recorder Titanium doesn't allow plug-ins, which is both good & bad -- if you don't need them, plug-ins add more complexity & potentially compatibility problems... no offense to the folks who like to have every tool imaginable, whether they ever use them or not. ;-) There's no way to get away from the easy to use versus powerful tradeoff, though Sound Forge Studio makes for a good compromise -- if you catch it on sale or with a MIR it's usually not too bad. Gold Wave is relatively inexpensive at around $45 I think, gives a fair amount of power for that price, is kind of unusual to use (it's unlike anything I've ever come across), but some versions are the only known way to convert the Audible Book format to mp3 or wav. If anyone's still running win98 or ME, there's a free version of Pro Tools that can give you a look at the high end -- for those running virtual machines already, it might actually be worth adding win98 or ME.

I'm sure comments will mention the free editing software that starts with an "A", which some love and others will *never*, *Ever* get the hang of -- the interface design is not it's strong suit. Alternative Wavosaur takes plugins, & the already mentioned Traverso lets you do multiple tracks like a pro. Acid lets you piece together loops, recordings, MIDI etc., & there's a free version available at Acid Planet.
