I registered according to the "read me" file but it says "Buy Now" near the upper right corner.

I uninstalled and reinstalled. It picked up my registration from the first time. Still says "Buy Now" near the upper right corner! Is it registered or not?

To [ Dave Cole ], wondering f it's registered, considering the incessant teases to purchase something ...

Check your installation by hovering over the gear icon in the lower left, from the pop-up menu, select [ Options ], then in [ Audials Options ] [ General ] see [ Product activation ], and is should show [ Audials TV Recorder ] if successfully registered ... or [ AudialsOne Demo ] if not registered, oops, too bad.

Also there, look at [ Audials account ] and [ Sign in ], it may or may not recognize registration after signing in.

Try R&R&R&R Remove and Reboot and Reinstall and Reregister.

To [ Jerry Clifton ] and others,

1 - it does not take 2 1/2 hours to install, kill it, so instead, interrupt it, reboot, and try again, run our computer maintenance, updates, antimalware scan on our computers, and try again,

2 - we have 24 hours to download the giveaway package from GOTD, but once we have it, we can retry the installation anytime and see if it works to ( a ) install and ( b ) to register as more than mere trial.

3 - If we have WIndows 10, it's free anyway, see [ microsoft. com/en-us/p/audials-internet-tv-player/9n3fspfg8xq7 ] ( remove the space in the link )

Let us know what you find.

Peter Blaise,

I may be wrong, but FWIW the description and even the title for that "Audials Internet TV Player" you linked to mentions nothing about recording (except for one mention of "Podcatcher" which hints at possible recording); i.e., I don't think it is the same product as this one here.

To [ HMarx ], who wonders, as I do, about giveaways of products that aren't really available otherwise ...

Can anyone find today's offering on the vendor's web site as a real product?

Welcome to BTOD Beta Tester Of The Day, ready to jump through hoops for the vendor?

Note, I do not have a Microsoft Windows POS Phone Operating System, so I cannot test their "app" - my computer runs only programs, real programs, but it's the only Audials TV product I could find in the wild.

Thanks for exploring this and sharing.

To [ Jerry Clifton ], who couldn't activate the offing before the end of the day,

If the program does not pop up a window offering Audials TV 2020 when it starts, then you are probably stuck with AudialsOne Demo, which DOES have TV, by the way, try it and tell us how it works for you.

Check your installation by clicking on the gear icon in the lower left, then in [ General ] see [ Product activation ].

Also there, look at [ Audials account ] and [ Sign in ].

This phantom product offered here at GOTD seems closest to Audials Music 2020 [ audials. com/en/movie ].

Thanks for exploring this and sharing.

Can anyone find an official Audials statement on what is limited in their "trial" versions, what is a "restriction" in any "demo" version?

One independent site says 40 recordings, versus in the Audials forums where a user claims 2 minute length limitations, versus Audials themselves saying in their forums "... Universal (MP3/MP4) is not available in the demo version ...".

I can find nothing - can anyone find an official page from Audials stating the comparative limits and restrictions of their free demo trial version versus their full version?

Audials wording my be obscure and unique if they have a findable web page at all on demo/trial limits/restrictions, considering that they have programmers in Temeschburg, Romania, and active partnerships in China and in the Ukraine, whereas the main company, presumably in Germany, now presents itself as nothing more than a Board of Executive Officers and a Supervisory Board.

Hello, Audials, are you here?

Please participate here, at GOTD, Audials.

Thank you.

To [ Whiterabbit-uk ], who wonders if it's registered, considering the incessant teases to purchase something ...

It may have self-registered, inheriting your prior account, and maybe even merely incorporated itself as just a [ TV ] option in the left of the AudialsOne program.

Check your installation by
- hovering over the gear icon in the lower left,
- from the pop-up menu, select [ Options ],
- then in [ Audials Options ] [ General ]
- see [ Product activation ],
- and is should show [ Audials TV Recorder ]
... if successfully registered.

Also there, look at [ Audials account ] and [ Sign in ], it may or may not recognize registration after signing in.

Try R&R&R&R Remove and Reboot and Reinstall and Reregister.

Yes, programs should check their environment and the success of their own installs and remedy any problems, but then what would end users do other than actually use the program ... we are troubleshootists, not end users, don't you know?

;-)

Well that was a big waste of 10 minutes..download, install and activate..most channels in this area are news or don't work (MLB Live played an ad, then froze), go international and most channels won't play properly. Waited 5 minutes for ITV to load..all there was was "crickets"
To the developers..more channel selection other than news or stations that freeze up, and if you are going to allow international streams, allow international streams!
Uninstalled

I bought Audials years ago and it was great to begin with, then upgraded the following year, same again good. From then on I was pestered to get the latest version all the time for this extra option and that. Then found its pretty useless and gradually year by year become more and more a waste of hard disk space. I came to the conclusion they like to milk their subscribers dry so I don't think I will be taking advantage of this free offer but don't let me put you off.

Works OK for me, but most of the channels are free to air anyway in the UK. Yes there are many music channels if that is of interest. Can't find the 600 channels mentioned though. Thought I might get some 'international culture'.

So I downloaded, ran and input my Audials login. Nothing except an offer to upgrade. So I close it down and restart it. Nope still no way to tell it's activated except "maybe" no Hulu showing or maybe it would tell me somehow it was registered. No help here or at the Audials website either.

Audials ALWAYS teases to buy a full upgrade package, even if you just bought a full upgrade package, it has nothing to do with anything being registered or not.

Just use what you've got and tell us how it works for you.

As soon as I saw this offering I was sceptical, based on previous history of use of such applications.

But on the whole, it does a reasonable job.

The interface is unique but not difficult to navigate.

The list of channels is easily laid out, including some that when selected results in a message inside the preview window to state that you require their VPN to access them, which is not intrinsically a bad aspect as the range of available channels is generally laid out before you even get to install this, although there seems to actually be more channels available than expected.

There are different options for the viewing window size, and an option for a moveable floating window.

Selecting some channels such as MSNBC, instead of going straight to the channel, takes you to a list of all the available ones (including those requiring their VPN) and you have select it manually.

Likewise there are some that result in a web page based window, where the option to play the channel content is very unclear.

Playback for me was very consistent with no dropouts, which was what I had expected to be an issue but thankfully wasn't.

I have only one complaint and it appears to be a major bug.

Whilst watching a channel on relatively low volume, so as not to wake others up, the moment that I hit the record button, the volume on my PC immediately shot up to 100% and it was not a pleasant experience.

The recording format is also fixed. Whilst there is an option in settings to modify from the default of wmv/mp3, it is greyed out, so you have no control whatsoever.

I have seen a comment regarding the inclusion of BBC and the situation regarding a licence, my understanding (which may be incorrect as I have not fully investigated) is that the licence is only required if the live TV is OTA, whereas this is streamed via the internet. But even if this is not the case, then it is no different from your TV, which always has the option to tune via OTA but as long as you don't access a service then you are breaking now laws.

So overall, not bad at all but the recording volume bug needs fixing badly as it is a very useful feature but I cannot use it if it is going to set my volume to maximum every time I use it.

Reply   |   Comment by FeMaster  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

PhilS, [Regarding TV licensing] I believe that is the case for other channels for now, but as BBC are still ad free channels, I think you still need a license. With streaming being a lot more popular now, they updated the terms a few years ago to include BBC iPlayer as requiring a license too when you didn't used to need one. So I imagine if that does then this may do too.

For anyone wanting more clarity, you can check the website which states what actions would require one: www.tvlicensing.co.uk

Reply   |   Comment by User  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

PhilS,
Just to let you know the legal ramifications of the tv licence.
It does not matter how you watch ANY tv program, be it BBC or any other, you WILL ALWAYS NEED a CURRENT TV LICENCE.
In reality if you purchase a tv, then the retailer has to notify tv licencing by law, and you need a tv licence just to have a tv in your house, even if you don't watch it. As long as it is able to receive ANY tv signals.
It's about time the BBC became a 'PAY TO VIEW CHANNEL', by issuing a viewing card. I am sure, without any doubt whatsoever that the revenue generated from the tv licence would be drastically reduced on the introduction of a PTV card, that's what the BBC are afraid of. Just imagine if EVERYONE STOPPED BUYING A TV LICENCE.
How would they enforce any penalties???.
Its about time that the BBC caught up with the rest of the world and moved into the 21st century.

Hi PhilS/Paul,

Ok EVERYONE IGNORE WHAT PAUL JUST SAID!!

Unfortunately we have another one of those people who hasn't actually read what is needed but feels they know it and can advise other people haha!

Just so you guys know, this is NOT true and is folkslaw lol. Have you not actually read the terms on the tv license website that i just posted?

Are you mad thinking you have to have a TV license simply because you own a TV?? People use TV's for all sorts of things (such as CCTV, to watch DVD's, play video games, etc- which do NOT require a license FYI), not just watching TV channels, so you can't automatically require a TV license because of it! People don't even need a TV to watch TV channels anymore with smart devices like smartphones and tablets, so it isn't that black and white Paul. Which also means that some people may not even own a TV, but may still need to have a license.

Clearly I have to spell it out for you guys. It states that you need one if:

1. You are watching or recording programmes as they are being watched on TV (i.e. live)

2. Watching or streaming programmes live on an online tv service (such as ITV Hub, All 4, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV, Sky Go, etc.)

3. Download or watch any BBC programmes on iPlayer.

Those are the only 3 reasons Paul. Where does it say TV = Buy a license haha?? Retailers inform them when people buy a TV so they can check they are paying for one if they need one, not because they SHOULD have one.

I have TV's but I have not had a license for about a decade, with no issues. Your TV CAN be aerial enabled, but not have the aerial connected to it if you aren't watching live TV and therefore aren't paying for a license.

I am sorry Paul but people like you annoy me. Educate yourself before you go around misinforming others and effectively scaring them into paying for something they don't actually need! Or do you work them and get commission for each one you sign up lol? Sounds like there is a chance you may even be paying for one yourself when you don't need to...may have saved you money there haha. You're welcome ;)

And the BBC are still the only ones WITHOUT ads. I think most would wish that other channels would join THEM, not the other way around haha! So they are still in their right to charge for that. And I think most people would prefer to pay a little money to be rid of ads. As I said, educate yourself lol.

Reply   |   Comment by User  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Paul,

Also, 'pay to view channel with a viewing card'. That's like back when Sky TV boxes and NTL/Virgin Media first came on the scene and required a card to be inserted into the front to work. You are suggesting we go backwards, not forwards. I think you are the one who needs to join the 21st Century hahahaha! That may explain where you got the info you posted. Perhaps they were the original rules 50 years ago or something haha.

I have seen this guy messaging multiple times on different giveaways and every single time he is rude, arrogant, belittling and condescending. Basically the most shameful replies. Noone appreciates his candor as he always gets a bunch of dislikes on his posts. I wanted to speak up myself but figured there was no point. And I guess everyone else thought the same. You guys were the first to retort. Made my day, thank you :D!

Reply   |   Comment by User  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

To [ FeMaster ], who is afraid that sudden loudness in headphones will make then deaf ...

I do not wear the headphones, I just have them plugged in so the speakers do not blast, the headphones are sitting on the table, I can hear a faint "wah-wah-squak-wah-wah" coming from them from a good 3 feet distance away.

An alternative is external speakers with their own volume control/amplifier/on/off-switch.

The best solution would be a results-oriented control dictating final volume in the room regardless of source, sort of like an Yamaha loudness control with sophisticated intelligence pus a DBX compressor - if I set my room presence to 30 db, it should stay that way regardless of changes in the source.

50 years ago, I had a car engine with a mechanical RPM limiter, it's not a difficult challenge to imagine a computerized volume control as an audio volume limiter.

Are there any prototype programmers and bread-board designers out there who want to run with what should not be a new idea?

Thanks for exploring this and sharing.

Reply   |   Comment by Peter Blaise  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

To [ PhilS ], who all too quickly imagined a wife as a screaming nag, and equally all to quickly imagined a gag ...

... um ...

Back to computer software, agreed, recording volume, any internal volume in any software, and output volume into the room should be unrelated, and never never never be a surprise.

But Audials Germany seems to be wholly subcontracting their software to programmers in Romania, China, and the Ukraine, so I do not see much hope in a careful and learned feedback loop between users here and Audials themselves, who somehow have not even shown up in this thread to participate with us as we have become beta testers for them.

Audials does not appear to market this as a commercial product, implying that is has no commercial value.

It appears to be the [ Movie ] subset tab already existing in AudialsOne, now broken out and renamed [ TV ], in other words, remarketing pieces and parts of their existing package merely under new names.

Thanks for exploring this and sharing.

OK - installed and trying to get it setup
When the App finally shows the channel in the TV pane many want to install cookies.
Having used the user options to turn off the pop-up about Buy & upgrade I still get the pop-up
The Activate help page shows using a selection that does not appear in the version supplied
So - is the product activated - and what version is it, and is the licence for just a year?

There is, according to the forum, a set of files that can be downloaded that include TV channel lists
BUT
The supplied version shows an open option for files on the PC, rather than a download location and set of files .
also the forum seems to contain entries in a mix of languages - and contains many entries saying the channel list files are missing.

Install does not follow normal giveawayofthe day install process.
You have to login and create an account within the giveaway day.
Install process indicates that it is installing .NET
and then installs the VC Redistributable
even if your system already has the current versions, fully patched to-date?

Seems to include DvdRipper?

There is also AudialsNotifier that you may want to 'configure' hopefully via the GUI
and maybe AutodialsStarter is a "Service" - what that implies I have not checked
CallBat.vbs has system security implications - as in what does it do now, and what will the updated version do?
Uses about 0.5GB of the storage for the main install folder + whatever the other installed stuff takes.

And do read the terms - especially re. protection of transmitted data.

After creating your account it logs you in and then presents the update centre screen - for you to buy the product at the 50% off rate?

Then - when you start seeing what it can do -
you get a message saying you should have at least 4GB RAM to avoid problems with transmissions

So - I'm in the UK BBC yes, even without asking if I have a licence to receive transmissions
ITV4 - system stopped responding

Restarted - and I note another transient message - seemed in the brief glimpse to indicate using windows media player
ITV4 - does not seem to play
Very limited set of channels - I'll need to check that against the freeview list -
Must remember the list is by source country - so UK may not be the best selection - see the US listing!

Ah! - have to wait a while for the app to start showing the picture - and (for BBC1) it seems to have a 60 second delay.

Also - note the configuration etc are from the settings and person icon at the bottom left of the main panel
Turn off the nag about buying, and point the system to a different partition than the OS and your windows profile one.

Altogether NOT the best of sales aids to get payment for the product, probably could be improved by some setup activity request at first activated usage, and an indication as to the limit on channels available within the selected country - maybe an option to select a list of countries rather than just 1, and then to exclude channels from that list - exclude so new ones will be shown as they become available

Also - noting the presence of files such as "lgo_ashampoo.png"

Does this product contain Ashampoo processes, or is it actually an Ashampoo product

Then again, that is just the first and second impression

Very disappointing, no matter what channel I select it only shows BBC News, even if I select another country. The software is very slow to respond and lags quite a bit, reading the description it looked as if this might be quite good but 1 channel is not the 300 live streams advertised. Basically useless and uninstalled.

Installed and registered easily on my Windows 10 64-bit laptop. I played around with the program a little bit and the channels are all news, music or religion (there's a few others but they're few and far between). Also, the video player is either really small or full-screen. No happy medium. I also had problems with the live video pausing on it's own every few minutes for no reason.
