Installed to Win 10 Home x64
When I selected to associate with all type of known files, it reported APP encounter problem and will set back Jpeg, MP4, & several files to default app setting.
It may have conflict with Spotify app, and abPhoto app, but, hey, it is just my guessing.

Photo Commander 15 (PC15) is a typical photo organization/management application. In my limited experience, it works well, opening RAW files from my Canon DSLR quickly. The editing and developing tools are very easy to use. Fine adjustments and advanced editing are not the intent of this program. Professionals should look elsewhere. However, for the price, this software is really hard to beat. So far (a few hours of use) no crashes!
I appreciate Ashampoo offering their "old" versions of software for free thru GOTD. I purchased a newer version of Snap after they offered the old version here. It's a great way to get new customers.
Thanks Ashampoo and GOTD!

Just replaced v14 (a previous GAOD) with today' v15.
Easy to download and, as before, works a treat.

Downloaded and installed just fine, everything looks good. I already love the available frames, cards, etc., could see myself experimenting all day and I don't have time today, but yeah, I love it so far. THANKS for Photo Commander 15! Finally, something EASY to use, looks very intuitive right off.

Have had Ver 12 & 14 ok under Win 10 x64 Pro now. Like them v15 makes a slightly larger edited file but auto settings can result in bit sharper, brighter result, esp if lowish light. Thanks GOTD.

I got the download link but it only leads to some apps in the store none of which loads. The whole procedure is too much trouble. Please don't do this in future offerings.

Ashampoo software is easy to use & it works. Photo Commander is a good all-around app for managing & working with your photos or images, that is more approachable IMHO than say something like the popular Zoner. Photo Commander won't do some of the more in depth stuff that some other image editing software can, but then Ashampoo doesn't have to encourage users to attend webinars &/or training sessions in hopes that they'll actually use the software -- something some other companies spend lots of time & effort on. A couple of other examples: Corel has been working to simplify the interface for PaintShop Pro, but they still feel a need to have a help panel always visible by default, because it's in a word: confusing. And there's an entire industry devoted to Photoshop training.
Ashampoo seems to hint that Photo Commander is something lots of pro photographers would & do use... some may, as there are always creatives that are a bit tech-adverse, but on the whole, no. There are brands of image apps that seem to target the more artistic photographers, but the majority of "gotta pay the rent" pros I think go the Lightroom <-> Photoshop route, because Adobe puts its design focus on production & speed, just for these gals & guys. For most of them you can't pay the bills unless you crank out a lot of work very efficiently, & the Adobe software lets them do just that. It's just not average user or consumer friendly.
The reason I mention that is, if you save your photos in RAW format, while there's nothing at all wrong with using Photo Commander, I just think you should know that you can do better *if you want*. And I'm not talking about really in depth editing, but rather using the more capable, non-destructive, auto or manual features of Lightroom, to develop your RAW files into images you can work with in whatever app you choose, including Photo Commander. A RAW file is basically a sensor dump from the camera, that has to be processed to make an image -- the reason for saving RAW files is that you might do better at that destructive processing than some automatic function in Windows or camera software -- so *to me* it kinda defeats that purpose if you open your RAW files in software that's going to automatically turn it into an image. Again, *to me*, if you're going to let software automatically process your RAW files, you'd likely be better off just letting your camera do that processing, saving your photos as smaller, easier to manage jpegs.

Downloaded quickly and easily. Unzipped without a hitch and installed the first time. Key was easy to get and worked immediately. I haven't tried it yet, but Ashampoo has a good reputation, so I am looking forward to using the FREE software. Thank you GOTD and Ashampoo.

I started using Photo commander to organize my photos after Google killed Picasa....but Photo Commander also has some excellent editing functionality. Another neat off-shoot of the Ashampoo software is you are required to have an account (I HATED this idea...) but it gives you access to all your keys, the software if you need to re-download it, and it gives you access to deals/freeware. Also, Ashampoo have an really great selection of software which is worth looking at. And NO I don't work for them.....I just use the products....

Using Windows 8. Needed to request license twice but other than that, everything went very smoothly. Quite frankly, it's a far more full-featured program than I need but the parts I do use are very easy to access and it navigates well, including showing you the main picture and preview pictures on either side. Have gotten a couple of Ashampoo pop-up ads at the beginning but haven't seen since. Video display is easy.

It's asking for the activation key before setup can proceed, but the readme instruction says to obtain the activation key after the program has been installed. Catch-22 here, what gives?

Grump Pah, If you solve this please post the solution, Thanks!
Save | Cancel
Grump Pah and Rick Womack, When you install (click on setup.exe) it presents you with a screen that requests the activation key and on that screen is a button that states get your free key. When you select that it opens your default browser on a screen which requests your email address and once that is entered, you are presented with a screen with your key. Select the copy to clipboard option or ctrl+C and then go back to your installation and paste from clipboard or ctrl+V. And you're all set to install.
Save | Cancel
Grump Pah, You have to be logged in to Windows with a user account that is a local administrator on that PC
Save | Cancel
Rick Womack, Click the "Get Free Activation Key" before you do anything else. That was not clear to me the first time.

Grump Pah, on the setup screen that asks for the activation key, there is a button that says "Get free activation key". Click the button, get the key, come back to the setup screen and enter it.

Why does the German company Ashampoo GmbH & Co. KG charge 20% VAT to USA customers? exports from EU to USA are under WTO rules and no local VAT is chargable under WTO rules, and exports below $15 in total value do not incure any import VAT or import Duty to the recipient either.
It's a breach of rules for an EU company to impose its own export tarrifs disguised as VAT unilaterally like this.
Save | Cancel
TK, This is in fact a very highly difficult situation when it comes to whether or not VAT is to be charged in such as your case. This program could very well be regarded as the provision of 'technical services' and even though Ashampoo as a German Company are 'selling' those services to you as a USA customer.. the 'goods' CAN be regarded very well as subject to a VAT charge. As a UK resident , some two or three years ago I was very disturbed by VAT being charged in regard to one or two USA software firms that I bought from and I finally took it up with one... I was then informed and the situation in that respect was clarified that only some few years ago there had been a variation of the basic VAT rules and if I bought almost any goods from such as USA or any other country well outside normal UK/EU situations... since I was resident in UK I had to bear the VAT charge. It applies similarly that any UK/EU customer supplying certain goods or services even to a customer outside of the EU area would still be subject to a VAT charge to be added. Highly complex rules (mostly I suspect to just get a bit more tax collected !!) but if you feel so aggrieved I'd ask Ashampoo directy to explain.. but be prepared for the answer that regrettably a charge does have to be made...or Ashampoo could well be receiving a big bill for back-tax if their records came under review !!

ericn2, I understand the premise of services as a opposed to products but in this case the software is clearly just a pre-fabricated software product as the vendor does not provide any additional services to the end user just a simple passing on of the binary installer and license code and processing payment, ie the product and no bespoke customisations or on going services like cloud storage or cloud processing, or involvement of the company past the initial purchasse. So the service part of the transaction is negligable at best. If you are saying that the processing of the order is VATable then as that is largely automated the VATable portion would be a fraction of a $. Also if that were true then everything one purchasses would be VATable and that is clearly not the case. And seeing as this is an old abandoned version of the product they do sell as a newer version they are trying to upsell us there is no purchasse of the right to get any further free updates since all development work on version 15 has ceased so there is no contribution to further development in the product price as none will be done on it. I have asked them Ashampoo here to explain in my open question... I very much doubt they will explain themselves here or in private email.

TK, That is odd as I have bought Ashampoo items before and never been charged VAT for delivery to US address..no VAT, no tarrifs, nothing.
Save | Cancel
DJ, try looking at the faded text under the final price. I obviously cannot vouch for your previous purchasses but todays custom buy page for this giveaway to make it giveawayoftheday.com compliant... (outside the custom page that is used for this giveaway you cannot find version 15 for sale from the main sites pages)
There is the text
" Total:US$9.99
Includes US$1.66 VAT (20% on US$8.33). "
regardless of what delivery address or billing address or payment method is used.
Save | Cancel
TK, I now understand..Curiousity got me so I punched in France as delivery place and saw what you meant. However it isn't Ashampoo. If you scroll to the end of the page, you see they use an online reseller for payment and order fullfilment, much like many firms use Digital River. It's called Cleverbridge and I have sent them an email for an explanation.
Save | Cancel
TK, 9,99$ vs 9,99€. It's already included, Steam does the same with EU customers but that doesn't mean you pay more, they actually made the product cheaper.
Save | Cancel
kui_, or in other words, if you would cut the VAT out of this whole thing, the product would still cost 9,99$ without VAT instead of 8,33$, so you would actually pay the same but it costs more.
Save | Cancel
kui_, That is what I am asking Cleverbridge, whether or not the price is discounted for EU customers so the included VAT, makes the total same price worldwide.
Save | Cancel
DJ, the VAT is a included one, not a raised one, as the price is still the same, looks like many don't understand that. It basically just means that Ashampoo is going to pay taxes on this very product, they wouldn't actually sell it to anyone for plain 8,33$. That also means that Ashampoo registered with VAT and they are going to get it back from tax authorities.
Save | Cancel
kui_, Including a VAT tax to anyone outside the EU is against WTO rulings. If in fact that $9.99 price that everyone pays has VAT added, that is soo not correct. That is why I am asking whether or not the price is in fact discounted so when the VAT is added it comes out to the $9.99.
Save | Cancel
DJ, Ashampoo is a VAT registrant, the easiest way to verify everything i wrote is asking them via email about the VAT situation, i'm no tax expert but i don't have any doubt that included VAT is not against WOT regulations, as VAT registrant you simply are legally obliged to advertise prices correctly. So if you have to pay VAT as business owner, you must make it visible in the price, properly display it. https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/pricing-payments/index_en.htm
Save | Cancel
TK, Since they're all downloadable products you could also experiment with using a VPN or selecting to pay in a different currency.
Years ago I looked at the effects from changing the currency type on Ashampoo's web site, and the same product had markedly different real prices depending on which currency you selected, relative to USD.
Save | Cancel
kui_, I do not think you understand what is being implied here..Cleverbridge, the reseller for Ashampoo is a VAT registered company. VAT is to be charged ONLY to EU countries. If I am buying a product in US or Canada from an EU company, and using my US based VISA card, that company is not suppose to charge me VAT. If I am buying same product using same card but now live in France, then that company can charge me VAT. Now here is where it all falls apart. I looked at what TK was saying. The price showing on this is $9.99 USD (Im using USD because that is what my CC is) in Canada with no mention of VAT. HOWEVER if I want to buy it with my same US CC and I am now living in France, the price is suddenly $8.33 USD + 20%VAT = $9.99 USD. My point is I should only be paying $8.33 USD IF I live in Canada. It is the same with companies here..they CANNOT charge GST (our form of VAT) to anything shipped outside Canada. If the price shown is $9.99 and I am in France, all I pay is $9.99. However if I live in Canada I pay $9.99 + 13% GST (our form of VAT and it varies by province)=$11.29
Being a VAT registrant only means that they have a tax number AND must collect VAT from EU countries properly. They CANNOT collect VAT from folks not living in the EU, and yet it seems they are. IF the price is $9.99 USD for a person living, let's say Canada, then a person living in, let's say France, should be paying $11.99 USD ($9.99 + 20% VAT ($1.998)= $11.988 (rounded off $11.99) not $9.99

I have used Photo Commander in the past and it is a decent program so I will probably download this. Thank you. One observation (not a complaint), on the Ashampoo site Photo Commander 15 is offered at $9,99, not $49.99, and the newest version 16 is offered at $19.99.
Save | Cancel
dansx6, I think GOTD issues what full retail price would have been for the product. If you notice, Commander 15 was $49.99, discounted to $9.99 and Commander 16 is also $49.99, discounted to $19.99

The best way to go about Ashampoo is creating a Ashampooo account, it will keep track of all your serial numbers and some downloads too, you will also be able to access the official Support area (Premium support is dealt with faster than free tickets but it costs extra) and different archives aswell as making it easier to opt-out of Newsletters, which will be activated every time you request a new serial with same email address.
Now in regard to how the newsletter is triggered, if you used the same email address before to request a key, you may have disabled or cancelled previous newsletters, that's good and all but if you request a new key, the newsletters will be triggered and turned on again. So do yourself a favour and create a Ashampoo account prior to requesting a serial key (if you don't have one yet) to easily opt-out by logging in into your account, going into "Notifications" and selecting "Please remove me from the Ashampoo-Newsletter" and that's all there is to it. No spam, no newsletters, no nothing, except a confirmation mail.
In regard to "Spam" and a bit of clarification, they do not send you spam at all, they send valid emails dealing with new Ashampoo products, heavy discounts and update or upgrade notifications or other deals and blog news, you can find the same emails in your account archived under "Newsletter archive".
Before installation, you need to request a free serial number to unlock the installer (this does register the program itself too). Enter your email address, request the key. In the email you'll receive, verify your email address to get the key. Use the key and paste it into the installer and continue the installation. Once you run Photo Commander, it will already be registered.
Other than that, this program has lots of features, so i'm not going to list them all in detail but most interesting and noticable are Slideshow Creation on CD/DVD, Converter, Renamer, Redater, Geotagging, Creation of Web Photo Album, Calendar/Collage/Panorama creation, Photomixer, JPG-Optimizer, 2D to 3D Converter, Screen Capture, there is much more. You should try it yourself to get the full picture. It's a very decent program on it's own and for free definitely a keeper if you have lots of photos and deal with them quite often.

kui_, and in an eyeblick, it can make beautiful seamless tiles, which you can later duplicate without the edges showing, from your images/photos (in "effects").

ericn2, no were supposed to be offered licensed programs we would otherwise have to buy and this old version is not for sale at the price advertised here.
This is a marketing platform first and formost not a "foodbank" of software. So participators should be marketing and offering the current version of their products if that is what they want us to buy if and when we buy a new machine or do a windows re-install to correct some major windows crash that happens from time to time.
