It's actually near close to impossible to find well-updated readers on this theme, still you look like you are familiar with which you're preaching about! Appreciate It

I'm not going to knock the software but anyone using a Windows based system can very easily create folders if they want to separate by file extension for type of media. You CAN sort by Type and then move the files to the corresponding folders. Want to search on the entire device? Do a simple search by clicking on This PC or whatever Drive letter in Explorer and enter * for the filename and then obviously the .file extension and you'll return all results with that extension.

This can be good for novices or people that don't want to take the time to do it but otherwise, this program is unnecessary.

ashampoo-media-sync is installed on my computer, but when I start it up, it parks itself down near the system tray, only partially visible and I cannpt click on it anywhere to get a menu or to reposition it. Win7 64bit

How lazy we have become, we need software to sort by type. What happen to click on type or name or dates and the sorting is done in a second, then transfer the files or move then into any folder of your choosing. Create TEMP-PICTURES or TEMP-MOVIE or whatever you like and dump all of your media type in it, sorted and archive it any place you want.
Why you need a software to run in the background 24/7 when only used occasionally.

Hi! I usually LOVE Ashampoo software and have purchased several programs from them in the past. Ashampoo Burning Studio is my favorite cd burn program. That said, I TRY to organize my media and document files myself when I save them the 1st time. Downloads and installs smoothly on win8.1 - 32bit - 2.6GHz - 4gb system. Ashampoo software setup ALWAYS puts 2 web shortcuts on the desktop - I just uninstall them later. After all that, I could not find an external drive to "play" with. :'( Will keep the software for now. Thank-You GOTD!!

Duel Boot here! - (As Karl says - ) a clean install on both physical partitions Win8.1.3 & Win10 Build 10074 - I tried plugging in an external 2Tb drive with most of my music (1 of my backups) & I didn't get ANY movement from the program - will try later, but so far - no joy! Thanks to GOTD & Ashampoo for today's offering & MAYBE it will work with some of my thumb drives. HAGD

Please forgive if this sounds like a stupid question, but was Auto Play enabled for the drive? I know a lot of security software disables it, & the Bitdefender I run changes or adds autorun.inf on the storage device to prevent it working.

The fundamental concept behind the creation of this Ashampoo software is confused.
Nobody organises his files in such a strait-jacketed way.
Worse, the implementation of that erroneous concept, is robotic.
Real world users need much more flexibility.

Other software companies have tried similar approaches. For example RoboFolder and RoboImport. This genre of software are all failures.

Presumably, a powerful file manager like Total Commander (portable) with the relevant plugins would easily take care of this function.
You can use Zback portable freeware to sync or mirror if you wish.

Ashampoo needs to evaluate just how much advertising goes into their products. A recent giveaway not too long ago Winoptimizer 11 has an enormous amount when you use it. To the point of nearly uninstalling and using freeware. They need to remove a considerable amount of it, since they have a tab built in where you can go shopping on their website by just clicking it within the software itself.

I have a huge collection of movies and music at my extern devices. I really would like to have all of those organized somehow - to get rid of dupes keeping the best versions. I have tried to find freeware for this task, but haven't succeeded yet to find something relevant. I prefer freeware off course, and if I can't find something, I'm gonna give this tool a chance, because I don't know how to organize the content, which is stored at about 10 extern devices. Thanks for the offer to Ashampoo (please, don't spam my inbox)and the crew behind GOTD. You guy do a great job - and we all know, the offers can't suit everybody's need each and everyday. Greets from Denmark.

PS. Thanks a lot for fair reviews, Karl. Great shares everyday. Danke Sehr :)

You can turn off the emai;s they send by logging into your ashampoo account, and turning it off. Very easy.

Allan - for movies you could give MyMovies a try? It's actually made by a Danish company. The basic software is free, and the more advanced features you Can get for free by contributing to the database. I got about half the features free after about 3 months.http://www.mymovies.dk

Try Dropit and its free

What is DropIt?

When you need to organize files, DropIt can eliminate much of the drudgery of searching and manually opening folders and moving files around.

Drop a group of different files and folders on the floating DropIt image and it sorts them to defined destination folders, compresses or extracts them, opens them with associated programs or performs other defined actions.

You can define how to filter your files (by name, directory, size, date, properties, content, regular expressions) and associate one of the 20 available actions to perform (Move, Copy, Compress, Extract, Rename, Delete, Split, Join, Encrypt, Decrypt, Open With, Upload, Send by Mail, Create Gallery, Create List, Create Playlist, Create Shortcut, Copy to Clipboard, Change Properties and Ignore). You can also organize your associations in profiles and automatically scan monitored folders at a defined time interval to process included files.

that's what it's all about, I suppose. Ashampoo, with usually good software, want to check how this Product is recieved before they consider launching the same. Well, they ought to know by now.

Done as krypteller states. Cannot see a gear wheel. Bonkers that it only syncs to an attatched device. No way to scan folder or folders on your PC. Waste of time.

I use FreeFileSync for total control. Media Sync needs more work.

Installed and registered the Ashampoo way without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install with the always added "Your software deals".

A German company with all legal information. Well known and often discussed here.

Ashampoo usually gives the last version for free as promotion, if a new version is on the market. This time a little bit different. There is no new version, today version from July 2013 is still the latest version - never updated. It doesn't seem to be a big success.

The program installs and start a MediaSyncTray.exe, which resides in the tray and waits for a device to be connected.

Once a device (autoplay enabled) is attached, you can define the behavior of this program. Where to store which files. The files are grouped into photo, video, music and documents.

You define a destination for each group individually

And there is the big but. Once you define to save your photo to a folder x, all photos will be stored in the same folder, there is no rename, no creation of sub directories according to your definition and so on. If you don't care about this, you can use this as a simple importer, which separates video files from photo files to different directories. Is there really a need for this? IMHO no...

Uninstalled via reboot, I see no real use for this on my computer.

Thanks Karl and I concur.

Only use if you have a bunch of files in a big folder to sort them out.
Also absolutely NO DOCUMENTATION or HELP!FILE with the program or online on their site

Great Review as usual ;)

Hi, You are right Karl asking 'is there really a need for this'.. In Your (and my) HO most users making and organizing their own Folders pack them with relevant (to specific subject) materials, such as - text, photos, videos, e-mails, snapshots, music, occasionally - downloaded Software installations plus serial numbers, links to pages on Internet, etc. Once these Folders-Documents are 'dissected' by Media Organizers, their structure disturbed and Files emigrate from one place somewhere else - one can truly LOSE valuable and neatly put together (also carefully named) entire Cases! I imagine I am not alone using basic Windows Media Folders to store typical Files, but on top of it - my customized Folders mean too much to me to be 'raided'.. Not saying Ashampoo Media Sync hasn't got it's merits and appeal for Some, just personally not for me.
