Concerning ArtStudio 1.1.2

I've been forgetting to submit this, but this may be important feedback for the creators and publishers of ArtStudio 1.1.2

Unfortunately - this company and software may be further victims of Microsoft.

The install was going well until a mssg came back stating that .NET support was required. There was a link to a Microsoft website (a good attempt) However there was no direct link to the required additional drivers etc.

Microsoft tried to install the FULL BLOWN .NET package on my machine. A 60 meg software shouldn't require a 600 meg install of support software (which is where it seemed to be going) After about 45 minutes of installing the full version I had to mercifully kill the install.

The only suggestions are to
A) not use the .NET framework
B) include the needed support programs and drivers or
C) Get Microsoft to clean up their act and provide a direct link to what's required to run the application (probably unlikely - MS is everything but user-friendly at the moment) VISTA ... need I say more.

One additional note: In installing another set of memory resident drivers to support .NET there again is another application stealing memory, slowing the system down. Just that alone will steer some people away. Direct X is already bad enough.

All in all - It didn't go well, but it may not be the software creators fault

overall this is a quality software. The most impressive results come from an understanding of the layers. learning not to over over use the effect appears to show the best results.

It would appear that you need fairly upto date computer specification to get the best results.

One problem I found was that I could not get the various screensavers etc to work on computers which did not have the this free download on its system.

However I cured this by copying the d3dx9_33.dll file from the computer with the program and pasting it into the system32 windows folder of the computer I wanted to play it on.

After seeing the demos I was very exited about this app, as I do a lot of Flash animation. But after installing the program that was OK (my system has all the requirements) when I ran the app It was simply 'slow motion' and when I tried to save the sample file in a .swf flash - it froze and I wasn't even able to call Task Manager to get out. It's my fist time in two years that Vista (home basic) CRASHES like that, that I couldn't even call Task Manager. I tried to run the app another couple of times, but the same story. Not only that, now it has messed up my system fonts, and after spending a few hours trying to get them back, I still did not manage, and I have a very annoying look on my screen.
Very, very disappointing indeed.

Does not work on my computer, (a 2 year old Vaio laptop) installed and said it activated, but then when I tried to start the program it said "The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem" Reinstalling did not fix, even after multiple tries.

I had wanted a decent program to make animated screensavers, so am very disappointed that this one requires a video card that it seems a large percent of the computers out there do not have.

con must install the frame work first if you did'nt have it if your windows isnt genuine it wont work pretty much unless you already have the frame work form elsewhere. pirated xp sp2 dont seem to work on that it seems?

Sorry, host error in my previous post.
This link leads to the previosly mentioned jiggly sports car swf animated pic made with ArtStudio and the so-called "radial blur":

Installed and runs fine on my old 1.8Ghz Pentium4, NVidia Geforce 7600GS AGP, 1.5GB RAM w/WIN XP; DirectX9c computer and obviously fine on my 2.7Ghz Core2Duo, NVidia 8800GTX 4GB RAM w/Vista HP; DX10.x

There is no ACTUAL "motion blur" available. The feature called "blur" actually just makes the pic slightly out of focus. Dragging your cursor left and right to increase the blur intensity is barely noticable even at max.
The feature called "motion blur" actually just makes the object in the pic appear as if you are observing it thru heat waves. Like what you see when observing something through the heat coming rising off a campfire. Therefore I would call thie feature "HEAT WAVE".
Finally the feature called "radial blur" make the object in the pic you apply it to appear to be... uhhh, jiggling..?
I tried all three features on this pic of a sports car, but blur was just a barely noticable loss of focus, and motion blur was just wavey like as if seen on a summer day (on hot pavement). So this is what the (saved as a .swf file) sports car looks like with the "radial blur" applied to it: A jiggling car made of "Jello?!"...

Otherwise, this is a good program. Just think they should take a look at other image editing programs to see what "motion blur" actually is. (And change theirs to "focus loss" and "heat wave")

Isn't it handy that I just replaced my graphics card last month :) ; my old card was the one that came pre-installed 6 years ago, and definitely did NOT have Pixel Shaders 2.0. The new card does. No problems with the install or activation and it seems to work just fine on my XPSP3 machine. Another one of these "not sure how often I'll use it" programs, but it'll be fun to tinker with it.

Disappointing, the program does not work for me.

“The application failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem”

I have a compatible video card with Pixel Shader 2.0. Running WinXP SP2.

Reinstalling and reactivating does not solve the problem.

I love it! I been messing with it for quite some time today. Be sure to use the great little tutorial at their webpage to get you started on the learning curve: http://corner-a.com/page.php?13 . Helped me alot, though I learned a good bit on my own before I found the help. I have created and uploaded a couple files if anyone cares to see them here: http://www.yadtel.net/~chucksm2/animations/ . The smoke is a little bit too straight on the snow scene. I embedded some non intrusive music too. Just so you know, one of them is a .exe. The other file is a .arw file, which Art Studio uses. Anyway, I have never had more fun with any giveaway more than I have this one!! I rate Art Studio a 10 out of 10!!

Just got to remember not to go overkill with these effects.

Overall a fantastic piece of software, installed and activated fine on XPsp2.

For those getting an error trying to start the program, please double check the ArtStudio shortcut in your start menu. Mine was invalid -- left out the program's exe file & just pointed to the folder -- but I also changed the install folder. The desktop icon worked, & so did double clicking the ArtStudio's exe file.

It would be a big help if ones who comment on success of installing would also tell what OS & type of computer they are using? Same info would be helpful if there was problems, glitches, etc. I've only been playing with computers the last ten years. All of your input is very helpful. Thanx. organic granny93265

Hi Everyone:
Even though I ran the "setup" file first and then the "activate" file, as instructed, and then got the usual "successfully activated" page from GOTD; when I clicked of the "registration" tab under the "help" menu, it says my version is not registered. It further advises me to go to their website to download the "regular version", and purchase a key to unlock all the features... I closed and reopened the program, but still got the same messages. Is this the regular version or not, and is it registered or not? Anyone know what's up with this? Thanks for any help with this issue.

Re: #70

I am having the same problem. I know there is just something we must be missing. After completion of my animation, I can export as an .avi only. When I try exporting as a .gif the colour is distorted and there is no animation at all.

I did take the avi into PSP's Animation shop and save it to .gif that way but.......

Can anyone tell us if we are missing a step here? I am not terribly experienced with animations but love what I have seen of this program so far. Also pretty sure that is the problem here, my lack of experience not the program. Love learning new things though.

Would be so appreciated if someone could help, tried the Help feature and the forum with Corner-A ArtStudio but there was nothing there about this problem.

@67 Sukibabe

The only difference after looking through the program folder was an extra filter in the filter folder. But it seems to run the same. I had a very slight jittery mouse in the older version and it’s still the same. I didn’t see anything on their website comparing any older versions to this newer one. I ended uninstalling the old one, used my Ccleaner to kill any left over registry entries, restarted then installed the new one.
Not sure if putting a 2nd version on another drive would work well with the registry.
Some programs will work and some won’t work that way.
I would just uninstall the old one and use this one if you want to change the drive. Providing the old one didn’t give much trouble installing and running.

The other version 1.0 had you run activate first then the installer, this one has you run the installer first then activate...I like to have a program where I can run the installer again in case it screws up in the future...

This post will probably not go through!

Here is the thing. Downloaded on XP SP3 and it runs well.
Played with it and amazed with the creation. Saved it to animated GIF and exited the program.

Opened up Irfanview to view the gif, but Irfanview cannot handle the animated gif, showing flashes instead of correct animation.

Then tried to open with GIMP, but GIMP says the gif is not a Window 32 file. ??

Then tried to open with Photoshop and succeeded to take in a single frame of the the gif.

So, in conclusion, there are some viewers that cannot handle the animated gif.

My Faststone viewer can view the animated gif without any problem.

PS: Can anyone suggests a FREE (not a trial copy please) animated GIF creation software for me to try out?

Thanks

Looked superb, until I tried to save an animated gif. The pic came out blinking, turning messy, then showing the image for one second, then back again. The same with various photos, and also a sample from the program saved to black and intelligible imege. I suppose, my system or hardware is lacking something, but I wish I knew what is it!! Have XP SP2, integrated graphic card. No warnings about lack of hardware or software, though. Anyone help?? I could really love this program! (ps. An scr is fine, but the swf also is no good..)

I liked this so much from the last giveaway that I bought the full version after my motherboard crashed late last year, no regrets.
It's an excellent program that is only limited by your imagination, and maybe your video card all though your video card neither has to be new or expensive to support pixel shading.
