PhilS, If you are copy/pasting the license code into the field, make sure that you are only copying the actual code characters and not literally including the '*Code:' characters in front of it. This is what I was doing until I figured it out. Unfortunately, the instructions given for activation are poorly written.

It will not register in Windows XP... Tried multiple times. Gives an "Unable to connect to remote server Error code: -2146697208 (INET_E_DOWNLOAD_FAILURE)" & when I run Network Diagnostics it errors out, "Error loading ndfapi The specified module could not be found." It installed fine however. Not sure why the networking part doesn't work just to register! :-(

After all the hassles for a facebook like, and install & force up our email, still could not find any noticeable improvements or enhancements for video or audio,
Since my last try of older trial version of this program back in may earlier of this year.
Downloader still is very weak, still would not work BET, MTV,VIMEO videos etc.
Still badly needs to add more hot video sites, video and audio enhancements features, also more editing HD output features ,
Sorry, like others said, who would pay for this at 40 bucks , just to use for a year, when free programs have way better options. Thks

Felix from Apowersoft,
Thanks for the replies Apowersoft, which is quite impressive, & shows Apowersoft does have integrity, unlike many other developers around today.
This programs would be truly great, stand out from all these many many others converters and similair downlaoders, if could add more especially, most useful video and audio enhancements
features below, even though some of these are probably too advanced for most of these shabby fly by night developers out there, but Apowersoft team does appear to at least want
To sincerely improve their products, I still hate paying a yearly fee just to use your products, but if you guys implement some of these features in your converter or downloader
Programs, you will certainly have my attention, to purchase, but hopefully you re-consider your pricing to make a bit more reasonable. Cheers!!!!

So happens that yesterday I needed to convert a large number of videos. I had one from a previous give away on my computer. It was pathetically slow. I downloaded a number of free ones. I do not have time for a complete analysis. Some of them were fairly decent. None of them were as effective fast etc as today's giveaway. This one is very easy to use

I use this on an almost daily basis Incredible how the world has ditched I.E & they hold this has-been browser up as some paragon! Don`t understand the comment about MP4 it`s the most popular codec, or do you mean YOU don`t use it so others shouldn`t?!

I have yet to find a codec that this wonder product doesn`t comprehend I`m sure there are hundreds but for daily user use I havn`t found any . So well designed it`s difficult to know how they can improve Please don`t go the Nero way & add anything but the kitchen sink!

The Video cutter is far too complicated I use DVDSoft cutter instead I know this has certain nasties associated with it but it`s so easy whilst this cutter needs a redesign! practically flawless otherwise in my book

Hi JardaH,

As we all now, Microsoft has not supported XP any more, though XP is a classical OS. In consideration of the security and cost, the new version of Video Convert Studio doesn't support XP any more. No worries, if you want to use conversion function, you cam also try our free online version. It supports all systems, XP, Vista, Mac, Windows 7, 8 or 10. Thank you.

Reply   |   Comment by Felix from Apowersoft  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

JardaH, the software runs well on Windows XP. The key problem I think would be the activation issue. Some XP users cannot open the login window and thus cannot activate the software. If you do not have such a problem, this software deserves a try.

Downloaded and installed just fine (Win7 64bit). No problems.
Opened program, created account, registered and activated smoothly. Very easy. No problems at all.
Checked program settings and only changed default output format to .mp4 and sound quality to "high". Everything else just okay.
Interesting to see how this actually works when I will put it in real "work".
So far, everything just smooth and okay. Thanks Apowersoft and Felix.

can you "fade" or transition when combining videos?

Reply   |   Comment by lauren  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

lauren,

"can you "fade" or transition when combining videos?"

No... They have a good guide for the software at: apowersoft[.]com/faq/video-converter-studio-guide.html

For transitions between scenes or clips you'd use an NLE [Non Linear Editor], where you arrange the clips on a timeline or using a story board, set their individual lengths etc., then add & adjust any transition FX. Blackmagic has DaVinci Resolve for free, while Avid offers Media Composer First also free, while there's lots of competition lower down the food chain, including Adobe Premiere Elements, Corel VideoStudio Pro, Roxio, Nero, etc... While the Adobe software doesn't drop too much below $50, the others mentioned usually dip to the $25-$30 range on sale. Magix bought the video software line from Sony, so there *may* be some decent offers there too. Videohelp[.]com has a good list of available NLEs with info on each.

What happens after the one year license expires?

Reply   |   Comment by Brenda  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+31)

Brenda, the license will expire. You cannot use the software until you purchase another license.

Hi Brenda,

It will become trial version. You can purchase it or get more promotions from our Official site. Thank you.

Editor restarts playback from beginning after ever minor change, making this function too annoying to use.

nivekian, that's really a problem. Good advice.

Not recommended, sorry.

- almost no settings
- only h264 and mpeg4
- slow conversion

+ nice design

There are better free converters.

For ~$30 I can have best converter MediaCoder with hardware encoding support, including Intel Quick Sync and Cuda.

Reply   |   Comment by Deke  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

Hi Deke,

Thanks for your feedback. In fact, this program has enough settings for video, audio, devices and more. Currently, H264 and Mpeg4 are main video compression standard. We'll support H265 lately which will meet more needs~ The conversion time also depends on the size of the video. It's faster than most paid converters.

Reply   |   Comment by Felix from Apowersoft  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Deke,

If it helps at all...

"almost no settings"

The x264 encoder [for AVC/H.264] included in ffmpeg has loads of settings possible, but they're beyond most users -- a brief listing of each & what it does takes pages. Because of that most software using x264 limits the settings to something much more manageable, though some, like the simple_x264_launcher, allow you to enter your own parameters for the CLI x264 app.

"slow conversion"
"... hardware encoding support, including Intel Quick Sync and Cuda."

With video encoding, speed is going to vary depending on encoder settings, hardware, & software installed. The very popular x264 encoder is going to work at close to the same speed regardless the software using it, when it's using the same settings on the same device [PC, laptop etc.].

X264 does have quality-related settings that will speed things up or slow them down -- I've seen software that lowers the quality so they can claim faster encoding speeds, while some people use highest quality with the CLI app itself, taking maybe a day [or longer] to encode. Hardware is common sense -- an i7 will encode video faster than an i3 or Celeron. Regarding software, if the encoding app uses Direct Show, the DS filters that are installed can have a drastic effect. At the same time all software uses some hardware resources, so whether the encoding app uses DS or not, if only 1/2 of your hardware resources are available for encoding, it'll take longer, as you'd expect.

Using GPU assist [Quick Sync, Cuda, OpenCL] for video encoding is a bit of a can of worms. When it comes to encoding, a lot of the processing a GPU is capable of will produce [sometimes Much] lower quality. An encoder that uses GPU assist that's capable of higher quality will split processing, feeding some of the work to the CPU, & some to the GPU, which is hard, especially regarding timing things so the CPU or GPU isn't sitting idle, waiting. Such encoders are not only rare, but twitchy, e.g. the Sony AVC encoder may work with GPU assist on one system & not another, even though both have identical hardware specs.

X264 itself allows almost no GPU assist -- it's just not designed for it. There are OTOH encoders designed to take full advantage of GPUs, but the price for the increase in encoding speed is noticeable loss of quality.

"only h264 and mpeg4"
"H264 is old hat"

Speaking purely in terms of practicality, the majority of devices capable of displaying video are designed to play AVC/H.264. More advanced codecs, e.g. H.264, H.265 etc., require more processing to decode & play -- often more than the processor on its own can provide. So hardware manufacturers build in additional processing capabilities just for that, e.g. additional chips in a cell phone, or added GPU instruction sets & firmware code for a PC/laptop/tablet. While other, newer codecs are catching on, they're just not there yet.

That's NOT saying AVC/H.264 is the best there is... If the device where you want to play the video can handle H.265, it'll also handle H.264, but most devices in use today simply cannot work as well, if at all, with something else.

I very much like Apowersoft's website. Very clean, smooth, informative and modern.

Installed on Windows 10 Home x64

The application itself barely fits on my 1366x768 laptop screen, but it does - props for that, it's resizable. The user interface, once again, modern, clean, simple-looking, nicely-laid-out and not laggy.

There's more to this program than the name suggests. It doesn't only convert videos to other formats. It has a built-in editor that allows you to rotate, crop, re-size, flip, trim the video, adjust the speed, volume, image settings (brightness, etc) and even add watermarks and subtitles.

Not only that, it allows you to download videos from web. I haven't found a list of supported services, but I tried it with YouTube and it did work like a charm. Wonderful!

It also seems to be a screen recorder, too. You can record a region of your screen, your webcam, area around your mouse cursor, audio from your machine.

There's more to it but I'll play with it later. The point is, I was very sceptical "ugh another one of those billions of crappy video converters" but no, this one seems to be quality software. Definitely worth checking out.

Thanks Apowersoft for giving us a one-year license. It's a keeper.

I‘ve used the free online video converter before, it works well and it's easy to use in spite of the limited functions. I wonder whether this Video Converter Studio has more editing options than the free online version
