@25 Yes,I agree with You.Should be more options.
But as long as they don´t have these I rather NOT vote if I don´t know what I am voting on...

Also its a thumbs down not a simple "no".

Normally I look through the comments and see if there is any useful information and I decide from there.

PS.Studying the comments here by people who seem to know what they´re talking about I assume that the program and company actually deserves the bad rating.

@misadventure The previous "Adware bug" in VideoInspector for of course not intentionnal and has been quickly fixed.
We now have a more detailed inspection & tests procedures for all our installers in order to make such bug extremely improbable in the future.
You can trust our products !

They have programs on their site that is loaded with trojans, this is not good.

I would not download this.

It would be nice if giveaways like this that obviously excludes a huge majority of people were couple with re-runs or other giveaways.
That being said, I wish KC Softwares would address the issues of previous adware being in their software. I used to use VideoInspector a lot and then the added adware that you could not opt out of which I found to be unethical. It's no longer there but I wish they would address this with a promise not to do such a thing in the future. I want to be able to trust them again.

About the "version reverts to 0.1.0.0" bug.... i've never seen that and i can't reproduce it.

Would you please be so kind to open a bug report here : http://www.kcsoftwares.com/bugs/ and to attach a screenshot ?

Ok, I want to correct my previous comment on a part: After registration the version reverts to 0.1.0.0, it says so in the window: ApHeMo 0.1.0.0. I do not know why it does, but that was the reason why I wrote that part about the version number. Now I realize it's someting weird happening...

Installed without problems on a Win 7 64-bit.

Health Monitoring...ApHeMo makes administrators able to improve security, reliability... How does displaying a log file count as "Health Monitoring"? Where are the statistics on user agents, referrers, country codes, hits, bots, etc.? You're not monitoring anything. How can I "improve security, reliability" with this if it doesn't offer any access to the server configuration, there's not even a .htaccess editor to fall back on... In short: it's just a log viewer. With a string filter as its only feature.

I've got mixed feelings about KC Software. I mean I used and liked their SUMo software and last time the developer was bughunting with us here on GOTD. But ApHeMo does not live up to its name and certainly isn't worth the price tag. If you're hosting a personal site you'll also get AWStats (well, usually) or other superior log analyzing and statistics packages, making ApHeMo pretty much useless. And to be honest, I can't imagine a 'dedicated server administrator' ever using this in a real-life situation.

The only remote hope I have for ApHeMo is its version: 0.1.0.0. It's still in its infancy and far away from a sturdy 1.0.0.0. But I find it rather rude to be asking 49.99 for a program where most of its development and bughunting still needs to be done.

Thanks anyway KC adnd GOTD, but uninstalled and thumbed down.

Re #2 (Pontus) - You are obviously correct about your criticism, of those who cast their vote against an untested product. However, I suggest the fault lies with GOTD rather than with the readers. The only choice the forum has is either Yes or No, when there should be a greater graduation in the available responses. So what about:
1. This product is very worthwhile? (i.e. yes)
2. This product is good but there are alternatives
3. I already have an alternative installed with which I am happy
4. I have no use for this product at all
5. This product is a total waste of time and money
6. Other
By allowing a greater range of opinion, it would help to balance the overall results more farly.
My two cents worth!

I would recommend the excellent free Logwatch - http://sourceforge.net/projects/logwatch/files/

Also the DirectAdmin on our server provides log viewing and some intrusion detection.

I administer the server for our volunteer forum so I am part of the target audience, but I see no reason to ever pay for this GOTD.

I have 3 Apache HTTP Servers active at the moment. Activated this software to see the capabilities.
Results, not to my standards.
First it gives info after the fact of an attack that can not be traced live while the attack is on.
Second, can not trace back if the attacker(s) are behind a firewall or on a proxy server.
Third, the log is not accessible if the server is writing at same moment while you try to read it and hence the error messages starting to pop up.
Fourth, most administrators already have much better and more secure software then this one.

If you have single server and informational web site only, it is OK to use this software and if you don't have anything else installed already. But, if you have secure server, this software will fail to provide the info you need on daily bases.

Hi All
I can't speak for the software but I can offer an opinion of the company. I actually tried out one of the companies other bits of software. "SUMO" WOW, It tried to instal so many different "free offers and trials that I thought I had made a mistake and was downloading something from a hack site. A couple of them were so sneaky that it stumped me for a moment as to how NOT to instal them. Even after fully installed Sumo took another swipe at me and another popup tried to get me again. And even worse, the program did nothing "for me". Then I discovered (on reboot) a rouge offer waiting for finish instal. I would NOT touch this companies software if they paid me and gave me the machine.

ApHeMo is a must have tool for dedicated server administrators.

How many dedicated server administrators here?? LOL!

Please note that the software you download and install during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:

1) No free technical support;
2) No free upgrades to future versions;
3) Strictly personal usage

hmm...something doesn't add up here: how can a software like this be used for non commercial purposes??

Anyway...as for the software performance it looks like a pretty decent server security tool but nothing special in my view, not to mention that it can analyze Apache HTTP Servers only: of course Apache is the most widely used web server on the NET nowadays, but it's not the only one on the market you can rely on to host your site.

Here you can find some clever tips to protect your Apache Web Server from hackers' attacks:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/security_tips.html

However, if you are a webmaster and use an Apache HTTP Server for your sites, this app could be the right tool for you.

For sure I wouldn't spend 50 bucks for a software like this and not just because I'm not a dedicated server administrator....LOL!

Maybe you may understand the thumbs down when you read the Giveaway limitations: "No free technical support" and "Strictly personal usage".
As I'm not my personal administrator this is useless - or why should I test this?

As a very part-time administrator of the web site for a small choir, software that did what this claims to do would be very useful. I know I /should/ spend time analysing Apache log files but I'd rather be singing.

The software downloaded and installed easily.
Problem 1: it requires your log file to have file type "log". My host creates log files of the form _log without a file type. Until I renamed the error log, ApHeMo wouldn't read it.
Problem 2: it appears not to read the access log. This is surely what you need to analyse if you want to detect attacks.
problem 3: there is absolutely no help, either with the program or on the web site. It makes no sense to supply software to help amateur administrators without providing documentation.

For me, this software is a waste of space. If it really delivered, I'd pay for it but for now it's going in the recycle bin.

BTW: I tried it on a test machine (XP SP3) with a 100k lines (15MB) log file (of our commercial apache) and it totally locked up when choosing the tab "full log". So I dunno how good the quality actually is. 100k lines is not that much.
But as it's "strictly private usage" I have to pass on this anyway.

You beat me to it.

How can anyone reject a program that he or she knows nothing about?

Petty Roman Emperors liked thumbs down too but at least they were usually bonkers and power mad!

Anyone with a server, owned or leased, a website or two, may well find this offer very useful.

Oops, I accidentally (and rather ironically) added a second typo to the one I reported in my earlier post: the column is actually (and still incorrectly) labelled “Additionnal Info”.

$49.99 seems a bit pricey for a log viewer.

Especially considering that there appear to be several free ones available.

P.S.
To the publisher: you've got a typo in the program's UI; one of the columns is labelled "Aditionnal Info". You might want to fix that.

"Health Monitoring"
I would be interested in finding a software that actually monitored the health of my family members from data entered, such as symptoms, medicines and history! Anyone know of such a software? GAOTD? Giovanni? Anyone?

As for today's offering, I certainly would not down vote it without trying, but I'm not sure of its use for the average user. Please enlighten us if this assumption is incorrect.

Thanks

Well, Pontus it's a thumbs down for being useless.
Please show me the "strictly private" use of a server analyzer... Even if one had a strictly private(!!) web server then the performance was of not much interest.

Has the usual "strictly personal use" restriction, which is pretty limiting since very few people run their own personal Apache servers. Probably explains the less than stellar rating it's getting.

This is supposed to be for personal use...not commercial use...knowing some of my acquaintances, a handful are likely to have an Apache server. I cannot think of one who would introduce a piece of software he hadn't sandboxed and ran extensive tests on prior to introducing it to a smooth running, security protected Apache server...by the time all the testing is done, the giveaway is over and done...probably by a couple of weeks- means they won't be able to install the app on anything...

The fact that almost no one runs an Apache server for their own use...some, but not enough to offer it as a giveaway.

I wish you good luck...

This software would never come far in the world of professionel users, but lets take a closer look at the options the software have/haven´t !

Pros
- You´re able to delete "Autofilter"

Cons
- $49.99 is too much for the simple GUI and the very limited options !
- The refresh is slow
- You can´t undo "accept"

Final
This is not for the professionel user. You will be bette helped with a good anti-virus software, which is much faster in use !

As I am not a dedicated server administrator I´ll pass on this one.
What I can´t understand is all the thumbs down for something most of You did not even test!

I think it´s great that there is some variation from all the video converters offered her (which i btw almost always download...).
If it´s too specialized,just don´t download!

To give it a thumbs down just because you don´t need it or don´t understand the use is a bit stupid,
