More: it occurs to me that this might be a big issue in the mind of GOTD. (Memo for philosophers: do websites actually have minds?) I image that GOTD might be very interested in how many people like or dislike their offering. That is, they might actually want to know about what seascoot (#7) calls the 'It's all about me' brigade. The 'all about me' brigade thinks only about their own needs, and cares nothing for anyone else's needs. At present, the voting system, as designed by GOTD!, is all about them.

By contrast, there are others who obviously do care about others' needs, and they share what they know. For example, they run GOTD programs and then report the results, or tell us about alternative programs, or at very least, tell us what they look for in this type of program, and why. GOTD's voting system is obviously useless for these people - and, I now suspect, most probably intentionally so.

So if I am correct, then sorry Giovanni: your prayers for voting reform will most probably never be met. Until such time as GOTD proves me wrong, I think GOTD are all about those who think it is all about them.

#7 and #14: spot on!

I rarely download the programs offered on GOTD, but nevertheless check out the website just about every single day. But why? The reason is to learn about software. Other that the very occasional title downloaded, the big value is inn everybody's comments. I currently don't have a server to worry about, but who is to say that I will never ever get one? The comments left on the site are often invaluable.

The only problem that I have is with the voting system, which is, as everybody knows, totally ambiguous. For most people, it seems, it asks for a vote on whether the software is personally useful; for a handful of other people, it OUGHT to be a vote on whether the software is good for the advertised purpose. That is, it is ambiguous as to whether the vote is for 'popularity' or 'quality'.

To GOTD, I make this appeal: could you please put an instruction next to the voting button, and tell people which method to use for voting. E.g. say, "Please vote according to whether you like this title or not", or "Please vote according to whether you have tested this program and found it of good or poor quality."

I think this might fix the issue: at least we would all know what the vote is supposed to mean!

I took a look at the company web site and I also am having a difficult time understanding the value added if I use this product. I run an apache server from my home machine, and I'm not sure what this product does beyond what I can see in the Apache logs on my own. Perhaps the one click "whois" feature would be a convenience. Why do I need this product is still a question I don't think is answered by the information available from KC Softwares.

That said, I really dislike those who complain about this product not being something they want. I've had many days when the offerings were not products I could use, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Some days the FREE products are exactly what you were looking for and some days the FREE products are not something you need. If you don't like it, go somewhere else and whine.

Aside from the fact that most people around here don't run servers of their own, I fail to see the intended audience for this software: 90% of Apache servers run under Linux. Most Windows-based servers host IIS. That leaves a very small audience for this software.

For what it's worth, I am a system administrator for >160 servers (split about 25:75 between Linux and Windows) and do use both Apache and IIS. There are plenty of better known tools that we use for intrusion detection and logfile analysis, such as snort and awstats.

I don't like to eat fish. Actually, I HATE fish. So, if you love fish, and you're looking for a review for a nice restaurant, you wouldn't want to read my review. I just might say something stupid, like 'The lobster tasted horrible!'. It would to me.

By the same token, if you don't run an Apache webserver, why are you leaving reviews? What are you reviewing? Why are you giving negative reviews? The fact that someone is giving away something for FREE that you can't use?

I run an Apache web server at home. I'm interested in something like this, but I don't like being a Guinea pig. I happen to be very particular about what I install on the server machine. It would be nice to see some honest, real reviews of this. Ya know, the same goes for the Data Recovery software from yesterday, or any specialized software that GAOTD offers. If it's not my cup of tea, I pass on making a comment. Please, do the same.

I follow this site with interest. It seems to me that there is no need to rate a software if you don't download it and try it out.

If however you downloaded the software and based upon your experience with it you came to a conclusion.. well that's what thumbs are for?

Perhaps there should be a neutral rating or a 'I'm not interested in this software but others may be' rating so as to not skewer the results.

Regardless, the comments colour the website. Keep up the good work GAOTD, and one day please put in the killer software that will organise me and my life in a lovely way!

I do not know if the program will be useful but I appreciate the fine spirit of many developers who sincerely offer their product here for free without hidden motive.
Giovanni is one of those gentlemen that make this website attractive with his objective analysis of the offers. We really appreciate people like him. A word of caution to our friend Giovannithough, you have a lot of fans on this website and you are a respected personality. However, it will be more gentlemanly to refrain from languages that may seem offensive to friends such as the phrase "everybody here instead stupidly did." As you may realise, no single human can be considered all-wise.

I don't know anything about servers, therefore this program doesn't interest me. BUT, just because I am not interested, doesn't mean it's a bad piece of software. I am not going to vote, but when I see these stupid comments posted above (except for #7 Seascott), it makes me sad that people don't get it! This is not about whether you need or are interested in such software, it's about the quality of the software. I feel sorry for you Kyle that people are so mean and stupid. I wish you good luck. I'm sure somewhere in the world, there are smart people!

hey...what became of the previous GAOTD? Vanished...puff!!

As for this new GAOTD, it was already given away here several times in the past and got very poor scores every time, maybe bcs almost nobody here is a server administrator...

But it does what it claims and if you own an e-commerce website where you sell something this tool can help you prevent hackers from stealing your money and "thankyou" page.

So I don't give it a THUMBS DOWN simply because I don't need it, as everybody here instead stupidly did.

However, I think that 50 bucks for an app like this is very damn expensive in my view....

What do you make of it, dudes?

Looks interesting but I use SFTP with public/private key files on my servers. I don't think this program supports it.

@kyle #3. Please ignore the "it's all about me" whiners on here. Its so sad that the ratings don't reflect the quality of the software so much as whether or not certain people are interested in it.

Since you seem to be monitoring the comments, could you provide some information about how Aphemo may or may not be useful in situations such as hosted accounts running Apache or WAMP/MAMP installations? I went to your web page for Aphemo, but this information is not available.

#4 Bill, check into Cameyo. It makes apps portable. After I lost everything to the new Win 8 upgrade I started making all my programs portable and of course backing up. In paint was one of my must haves too. You may be able to get it from the Cameyo Cloud. Good luck and GOTD keep up the great work.

Not useful to me either. Would love to have the original "inpaint" again. I lost it along with numerous other software when I had to do a complete new install of windows 7 Pro.

I hope tomorrow's gaotd be better. Maybe you will offer inpaint again I missed that, or maybe so photo program. perhaps a dvd/cd/blue ray program. thanks again gaotd.

"ApHeMo is a must have tool for dedicated servers administrators."
Terms and conditions...3) Strictly personal usage.
Pretty much mutually excusive isnt it? Except for the few that have a bank of servers in their home.
