Reporting back after first try of Ant Download Manager....was unable on first try to get it to work on Maxthon Browser, perhaps because I have not integrated it into browser yet,and I do not know whether it will successfully integrate into Maxthon,or not..Switched to Chrome, where it had successfully integrated into browser,it downloaded video file of 1.6 GB in under 8 mins.,and also showed Peak DL speeds of almost 8.2 Mb/sec. This software appears to have some extra bells and whistles that I am still familiarizing myself with, because I am at the bottom of the learning curve, and working my way up.Having never used Ant as an add-on / extension in Chrome,or Firefox,I am unsure as to any added functionality that the program, itself, adds in addition to the add-on / extension functionality. For me,at least,It DOES work, will be testing and learning all the quirks,foibles,eccentricities,etc....So,for the time being, this one is actually a keeper.Curious as to what enhancements were on V 1.21,and wondering why,if it was given away on other giveaway sites, why that version was not offered here. Thanks,GAOTD,and AntGroup,if I REALLY like it,I may consider buying the paid version,to keep myself on the cutting edge of updates....of course, there's always IDM,but that's another story. Also,FYI, of note,Netflix has announced they will let subscribers download SOME of their videos / movies to paid subscribers, but only thru iPhone / Android, (as of this writing) for later viewing.I never expected them to do THAT,but I gladly receive that news with open arms......Comments ??

I have been using Maxthon Browser for 4,maybe 5 years now....if we are referring strictly to Media downloads,Maxthon's built-in "Resource Sniffer" works about 95% of the time, but the ability to DL is also dependent upon the website,as well....haven't really tried it on Youtube,I have a plethora of Youtube downloaders for that. No,it does not work on Netflix,Hulu,etc.....I suspect one would use something along the lines of an RTMPDump tool ( some of those tools are found at Nirsoft) for that, but that is way too complex for my limited comprhension.EagleGet also works in some instances, but for me,Maxthon is my go-to,on a day in-day out basis.I've had extremely limited success with Firefox / Chrome Add-ons and Extensions. If video downloading is NOT an option, you can always use a Screen-capture utility, but those are usually cumbersome,resource-intensive,and generate HUGE file sizes....Anybody else on their preferred DL soft that almost always works ???.

I must admit it is time to update from my beloved FLASHGET 1.9.6.173

Which I like because of the individual download log file that can record all of the relevant details iNCLUDiNG ORiGiNAL DATE & TiME STAMP on the downloaded file
The server DATE & TiME STAMP is one feature which I've found invaluable

I have three times tried to download this program, but I always saw this answer:

Oooops!
Sorry, the page you're looking for isn't here.
Maybe you've clicked on an obsolete link or mistyped the URL, or maybe it's just us.

Don't fret!
Just go to our home page and proceed from there.

I clicked the words "home page" only to return to the page of "Give Away of The Day".
How can I get this software?

Thank you.

Nigel Steele, it's too late now, but probably you've not followed comments on GAOTD software lately. Turn off all your anti-virus, download and install and then turn the anti-virus on again and you're done.

After reading Commenter #23,"berrt" 's comments, this gives me great pause as to whether to install today's giveaway,or not.Is it possible that berrt downloaded this program from a third-party download site that piggy-backed Adware,Malware,Toolbar / search-engine redirects,PUP's,etc.???....or is this software riddled with unwanted / unknown malware,adware,etc,?????....I would love to give this software a try,but.....Am I the only person wondering about this,or just the first one to voice deep-seated concerns ???...I welcome any and all input, because I really WOULD like to give this one a try,but wondering whether I will have to monitor install with numerous installation-monitoring software, etc

This Ant Downloader program works okay, but nothing special in the features, it is just another video downloader, not much to really stand out among all the many many free ones already in crowded market.

**It really badly needs a  video trim feature,  so we do not have to download entire lengthy videos, keep the junk parts in videos do not want.
** Along with a video/audio trimmer option, a basic *(Video fade out effect), feature mainly at end of video downloads, so do not have to use an addtl editor program,to edit and re-encode just to fade out video at end, instead of all videos ending abrubtly, which looks terrible.
**Also, some
Addtl Superhot video/audio Options could make avail even if by external Plugins, VST Effects etc)**:
--***(Video 5.1 Surr sound effect to max or boost video sound without clipping or distorting or sound effect to max or boost video sound without clipping or distorting
--(Option to *Auto correct of video resolution, lighting or sound problems . ( Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars)

NONE of the Download Managers I have EVER tried were faster and less work than the ones in my Browsers (particularly Opera and Nitro). Admittedly I haven't been on dial-up in over 10 years and Shaw in Canada always has decent connect speeds.

This comment may be slightly off subject, but #7 comment below and it's responses are worth noting.
Ashraf was always worth a read whenever he passed comments, and he was not shy in that regard. He is sorely missed, but I agree, I looked back at Jim Stone's superb analysis on yesterdays Jade Encryption 1.0 where he appeared to spent quite a bit of his time analysing the issues.
Well done Jim, keep up the good work.

I tested Ant on my very slow DSL connection (it's easier to compare download times) using an AMD 4.3 GHz, quad CPU machine with 8GB RAM running Windows 7, 32bit, sp1.

I picked a 43.8Mb program and downloaded it with ANT and compared the time the download took with my normal "Download helper") program.

Ant took 11min, 3 seconds to download the program
Download helper took 9min, 27seconds. ~17% faster.

I also tried Ant on a youtube video of ~4 minutes and found that Download helper did the download ~20% faster.
---------------------
Here is my suggestion to improve program. I am doing it here because I don't want to sign up for another site to just add a suggestion.
---
The program is too awkward to use since it is hidden behind the browser. Please set it up to add an "add-on" icon to the Firefox menu bar. Also the GUI is not that user friendly.
---
Other than that it does work fine and I had no problem downloading or installing the program on a partition of my choice (other than the default; C:\Program Files).

Ok so far. I have an XP so I don't know how it installs on other systems.
On XP it gave me two options Normal Install(recommended) and Expert {this was ticked} . When I tried to change it to Normal one of my software jumped up and informed me that software I might not want will be installed. When I did Expert it was going to install it to DOWNLOADS folder. I changed that to the normal Programs folder.
Got to go now.

Win 10, Comodo AV.
Uncheky switched installer from Full to Custom mode. Even though I unchecked IE extension installation, it installed it anyway.
Since the readme.txt says "No free upgrades to future versions" it's good to turn updates checking off, MENU -- Config -- Check for updates -- OK.
I've confirmed its extension installation in Firefox, and restarted it, but when I tried to download lubuntu linux ISO it didn't catch, only when i did right click Download with AntDM -- Download link it could get it.
The main window shows Pro Giveaway Version but green PRO -- Buy Pro button is still there.

I had this software before and created so much headache to me. When I updated my browsers it did not attached to them again and when I tried to run it as stand alone application it froze my CPU.
It is very difficult to remove it because most of the software is in 100s of registry's entries. I will never again install it because it becomes a permanent attachment to your computer. A clean install was needed to stop it.

At the end of the install process, you are presented with a window with the title "Ani Download Manager Updater", promoting the new version 1.2.1.
If you click "Update", your free GOTD version 1.2.0 Pro will be replaced by the trial version 1.2.1, which after 30 days will revert to the free (not Pro) version.
Make sure that you check both the "never check for updates" button and the "do not offer to update this version" button, and that you select "Cancel" instead of "Update".
Not realising the consequences, I accepted the update, which forced me to uninstall trial version 1.2.1 and reinstall GOTD version 1.2.0 Pro without the update.
Annoyingly, after you decline to update, you are presented with a message entitled "Information" and the text "Allow to receive updates, you may on 'General' tab of the application configuration" and an "OK" button. To avoid problems, I did not click "OK" (which might mean "I understand" but also "Go ahead and install the update"), but simply clicked away the message.
I was not thrilled by this state of affairs.

This is version 1.2.0. The latest version- 1.2.1, was offered about a month ago also for free in another site. But some had problems to install it - it would install as a trial and not as a Pro limitless. I only found out this today. So had to uninstall the newer and stick to this one.
I have and use DAP 10 - which is latest version also, BUT DAP has HUGE problems with Chrome, so wanted and alternative Chrome downloader, and this is it. I had mixed results between ANT and DAP. Some downloads were faster other did not, but normally, when DAP is faster is quite faster than ANT.
Thanks GAOTD and AntGROUP

nibo1978, I have the DAP Premium version for about 6 years now, and this isn't free, so no ads or any thing like that. Except for the problem with Chrome, which appeared maybe a couple years ago, this is a great product and extremely fast. Absolutely no complains. If I have a very large file to download, I save the link to Firefox which works OK with DAP and I'm done!

Anyway having installed, updated, uninstalled the trial and re-installed the out of date one licenced to GOATD and turned off the look for updates and looked at the program web page where is the help? Or am I supposed to know how download managers work without asking?

Machine: Windows 10 Pro, Dual quad-core Xeon hex-core, 36Gb RAM, nVidia Gefore GTX 670 graphics.

Unzipped without issue. Ran setup. Program appeared to install and was activated. No extension found on Chrome, nothing in the applications folder.
Ran setup again, went straight to "This program has been activated".
Couldn't find in Programs and Features to uninstall.
Couldn't find installation folder in Programs or Programs(x86)
Downloaded the file from the vendors website and installed.
Installed into Chrome and standalone app but showed as trial.
Ran GAOTD installer again and informed that it was registered but the application I downloaded was still trial.
Rebooted after all of the above steps.
Uninstalled application and rebooted.
Tried to run GAOTD installer again, again it went straight to "This program has been activated"
At this point I am giving up, which is a shame as this looks like a really good giveaway.
It would be helpful to know where the installer installs to so I can remove the program properly and try again.

Luis, Thanks for the suggestion but Revo couldn't find it, neither could AVG Tune Up uninstaller.

I scanned the registry and removed the references left by the website installer but there were none from the GAOTD installation. There are no fileson the C drive either. There's plainly a registry reference somewhere that tells the GAOTD installer that it's already installed but I haven't been able to find it.

Chris, I have not installed this application cause I use FreeDownloader, so I don't know where this program is installed. Did you check in User/AppData/Roaming? If not there then try reinstalling it. Also inspect the shortcut or use and advanced search tool like AgentRansack. It must be somewhere otherwise your Windows is messed up.

Luis, it was install in this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Ant Download Manager.

@Chris: Try to install the Free Download Manager. If You have problems to install this downlaod manager too, I would think your PC or your filesystem has a defect.

Chris,
I did found a lot of reg-keys:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\AntGROUP]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\SeaMonkey]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\AntIE.Download]
@="AntDownload Object"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{8AB...E5-74BD-4c73-BB34-445...2AE}]
@="Ant Download Manager BHO"
and more.

Hi nibo1978, as mentioned, I tried this already but the GAOTD softwarer wouldn't activate it.

Reply   |   Comment by Chris  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Hi Ootje, I checked all those, the classes were removed by the main program uninstaller from when I installed it from the software's home page, thanks for checking though.

Chris,
""This program has been activated"" That is something of the GOTD-wrapper.
The program itself did not install at all, I think.
I did install the program several times and the only warning I got was: shut down the program instances and then click OK.
I did download the update and that installed fine. The download-file was gone after the install.
And then I could install the GOTD-version again without any trouble.

Perhaps you should try to install it with administrator rights.
Also clean-up Windows for left overs from the earlier GOTD-programs of yesterday etc.
I use cCleaner for that.

Hi Ootje, yeah tried all that, still goes straight to activation. Thanks for your suggestions, I'm just going to have to let this one go I think :)

Chris, If you really want this one, disable your AV for 20 sec. just before you start the Setup.
As soon as you get the install-screen, enable your AV again.
Personally I use DownThemAll in Firefox.

It says the software:
[Supports network protocols HTTP(S), FTP(S). Media protocols F4M, M3U8, RTMP(x).
Supports proxy HTTP(S), FTP, SOCKS 4,5.]

After you install it, activate and run....then for some reason you uninstall it.
Does it leave your network protocols and Windows Sockets damaged after an uninstall?
i.e. does it cripple your network and internet connection?

I have been using the free version of this for the last 3 weeks and love it. When I tried to install today's giveaway, nothing appeared to happen. How can I tell if I now have the full version?

For those having issues running programs in Windows 10 especially the Anniversary edition you will have to uninstall your AV and use Defender from now on.

Reply   |   Comment by Paul  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-9)

Well that's not happening, quite aside from the fact I've paid for my antivirus software Windows defender is ok but hardly top quality. Uninstalling your antivirus so you can download files that may end up infecting your computer is pretty insane.

I have the Chrome extension Flash Video Downloader which works just fine.
So I think I will pass on this offering.

Reply   |   Comment by Paul  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Paul, omg you could not compare an extension like flash video downloader with a download manager! I think you not know the difference between a video downloader and a download manager!

Reply   |   Comment by nibo1978  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

nibo1978: Paul's comment is worthwhile since the current GAOTD mainly touts it video download capabilities. His comment *is* relevant.

all you so called reviewers talk about these days is how to install the software. Aren't there any knowledgeable people out there that can actually discuss the software itself. The opinions of Ashraf were invaluable, remember him.

Reply   |   Comment by ceegee  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+17)

ceegee,
Ashraf has his own site.

How is anyone supposed to review the software when it won't install properly? That's the first thing I look for: does it install and is it not a time-limited trial? Then I install it on a VM to check it out before considering installing it for use.

Hands-down the only 100% effective uninstaller is Soft Organizer, often found on giveaway sites. Nothing gets by it when you use it properly.

Reply   |   Comment by Rolo  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Rolo,
Thanks for replying. I know installation should be discussed, but I have noticed not many people bother to talk about the software once they have managed to install it. Years ago there would be many tips about getting the best usage out of whatever software was offered and suggesting free alternatives. Far less of that now.
Completely agree about Soft Organizer.....the best.

ceegee, if it's not possible to get the horse out the stable, there's no chance of seeing how it performs over the jumps. A stuck or sticking stable door seems to be a growing problem amongst many who visit here, so it's natural for others to offer help. As to actual reviews, there was a trip down Memory Lane yesterday . . . but there was also a beautifully written, cogent review from GOTD poster Jim Stone.

MikeR,
Excellent analogy and I get your point. But I am convinced there is less interest in making useful reviews now compared to times past.

Installed without errors - Windows XP SP3

Confirmed Configuration was Integrated with Firefox (where I am running 49.0.2).

Rebooted both desktop and browser twice . . . when initiating download, only Windows Download window open . . . Ant DM Pro 1.2.0 does NOT launch (or open) and therefore does NOT work as described.

Any suggestions from Ant?

AM

AudioMoto, was firefox open as you have installed the Ant Downloader? You must know all browsers must be closed if you install any download manager.

None of the giveaways can be installed in my computer. It is always state that the setup files are corrupted

Reply   |   Comment by George Lonappan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-17)

George Lonappan, Are you running the file from the zipped folder? If so, try extracting or dragging and dropping them to your desktop or a folder and running them. Make sure you have the .exe and .gcd file in the same extracted location. (That solves 90% pf people's issues) Did the giveaways ever work on your PC? It could be an anti-malware or antivirus program.
If this does not help, consider going here for support: https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/

George Lonappan, This is how it works for me: The same happened to me, but not any more. First of all download the file. Then, to install it try one of the following 2 alternatives: 1) Deactivate the antivirus soft and try installing. If this didn`t work do number the following will: 2) Start the pc in Safe Mode with internet connection active. Install the software and activate it. It may happen that you receive a message saying that you can`t activate the software in Safe Mode. Ok; then start the pc again in normal mode with your antivirus activated, as you normally do, and register the software. This should word. Regards.

George Lonappan, I have found that when I have a download manager running all my d/l from here will say they are corrupt.

Reply   |   Comment by John Kennedy  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

George Lonappan, restart in SAFE mode with networking to install. Hit F8 repeatedly as you restart or go to msconfig and then boot tab. 2nd method you will need to go back to msconfig to change it back to normal boot.

bookman,
"'The setup files are corrupted."
Maybe there are some GOTD-files from yesterday and the day's before in the folder %temp%.
Open Explorer and type in %temp% and hit Enter.
There are all files, that were used to start Windows, to unzip files etc.
Empty this folder and download the GOTD-zip and give it another try.
Or use cCleaner to clean Windows. It's easier to use
