Would really appreciate some help. Visited the devs site but theres no mention of the problem I am facing.

The app installs ok. Firefox shows "Ant FF2" installed in the plugins. The icon for Ant shows up in the browser as well.

However when I go to any site (say youtube for example), start a video and click on the "Ant: icon, I get a pop up message saying -

"Ant Download Manager Disabled.
V 0.0.19
The Application is not installed"

I just dont get it. I tried other video sites as well - exact same problem. The download manager IS installed. If I copy/paste a video link directly into Ant Download Manager, the application works fine and downloads the file. It just refuses to work from within FireFox.

I visited -

http://antdownloadmanager.com/addons.php?ver=1.4.6.41232

as well. Everything is as it should be.

Any help sincerely appreciated.

Same issues as some others - I get message that software is activated, but the software is not installed and does not appear in program list - I'm using Win7 Ultimate. Hope you can resolve this for us, as it sounds like good software.

Howdy,

No idea why there seems to be so many problems downloading and installing this program? Everything went smooth with no corrupt files and flawless install over my previous version 1.44, doing this once from the download link and then from the expanded zip file. I use Bitdefender free, and Zemana, and nothing was triggered or stopped. Even the UnChecky (if you don't know what this does, look it up)program popped up and the installation went as custom (allowing me to choose what to install) not full, and still no problems. Running the latest Windows 10.

Thanks once again GOTD, and Ant Group, for a program I really appreciate and enjoy.

Best Regards,

MS

I have the previous version GOTD and I absolutely love it. I hoped to install this latest version with the understanding that the developers would have improved on its core functions.
But the complaints about installation makes me wary - and I have changed my mind. Better to keep the functioning version than install a problematic one.

I selected Custom installation and then unchecked (1) the box that would install AntDM for Microsoft Internet Explorer and (2) the box that would "Run AntDM automatically when Windows starts." Nevertheless AntDm installed itself to run when Windows starts and to appear in IE's context menu.

I cannot trust AntDM to do what it says. Uninstalled.

I downloaded the zip file and extracted the installs. I turned off AV and Firewall to do the install. The install appears to have gone beautifully. I enabled it in Chrome and when I right click on the Ant logo I have the option to "Download with AntDM" and then "Download All". When I selected it, it did nothing!! Also when I go into the program manually it is only the free version. What gives??

Like Syd in #6, I got v. 1.4.4 from the SoS promo, recently. If the Ant DM developers are monitoring this (and I hope they are), I can mention that I left a few product comments over on the SoS discussion board -- because they prefer it to go there, rather than within user reviews -- and I don't especially want to reprise things I've already said. In general, I find Ant to be an interesting and capable software, albeit one with some annoying behaviors that I would like the developers to address. If that happened, it would incline me to purchase the program.

I did not have any problems installing or registering . . . but the SoS wrapper is likely different from the one in use here ?

Basically, I am in agreement with RiverBoatSam, in comment #14. If it's not already familiar, look up the primary definition of the word "officious", which really applies here. I'm strongly in favor of a program doing its thing WHERE & WHEN you direct it to, but **NOT** at other times or in other circumstances. Ant is constantly butting in. It clashes with my excellent DownThemAll extension for FF, which I greatly prefer for handling certain tasks. There are at least two places in the Ant settings where you can specify "Exclusions" -- for file types and for particular sites -- but Ant seems to have a rather spotty record when it comes to obeying these user directives. For some of these it does, but for others it does NOT. Another and rather glaring example: I checked the box for "Never Search for Ant updates", on the theory that an update if accepted would invalidate the giveaway license, which is quite often the case with the promo versions, but Ant still checks for updates -- frequently !

On a Win 7 machine here, Ant was causing a problem with Windows Shutdown. The shutdown would hang, with an error message about how some memory address could not be read. (Say WHAT ?!) This explicitly referred to Ant, and was very annoying. I found that I needed to make sure that Ant had been **completely Exited**, meaning that it was Closed out of the Systray as well, in order to avoid this.

I ditched IDM some time ago, because it was considerably more problematic than this. (More to do with privacy and security issues.) If the Ant folks can effectively deal with these intrusiveness concerns, they will really have something. As things stand, I just have to note that this is a type of software that hardly falls into the "essential" class, and therefore is very optional.

I'm having difficulty getting this software on my computer
as are several people I noticed today. After downloading this
giveaway, I clicked on setup and got the following message:

"Failed to connect. Please try again later."

The preceding message is constantly given in a endless loop.
I've tried repeatedly as others suggested to disable my AV
but to no avail. If it is true that this is a common occurrence
as was posted today. And that this happens to a significant
number of people, then perhaps GOTD should consider
making a few changes somehow/somewhere?
Just a thought.

Note: This has happened numerous times before trying to
acquire GOTD programs. Moreover, I don't seem to have an
issue installing programs from other giveaway sites.

Thanks for listening!

Reply   |   Comment by Joe M.  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Joe M.,

Howdy, when you see that failed to connect, it is the GOTD setup exe verifying through the internet that all is fine. What it checks, I can only ponder, correct time frame for the giveaway and not expired, setup is not corrupt, etc., really no idea.

I seen it pop up, and connecting when I was installing, and it verified and went smooth, so, I am thinking your firewall and/or antivirus have a block (rule) on the GOTD setup exe. I would scroll through both and see what is there for GOTD and change it if necessary. You could make your own whitelist/rule for it so this doesn't happen in the future.

Reply   |   Comment by Monkey Snark  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Monkey Snark,

Thank you so much for your response. You've absolutely
provided me with some insight to my issue. And I
firmly believe you have helped others as well by your
thoughtful, detailed post. I will most definitely look into
this problem further with your suggestions foremost in mind.
It was extremely helpful! Thanks again!

To GOTD, however, as I said in my original post, it seems
that I am not the only one having difficulty installing these
giveaways. if that is indeed the case, then possibly, might
it not be a worthwhile idea to consider a more user friendly
system so that more if not all may download these desirable
software without incident? Furthermore, again as I stated in
my original post, I download from other giveaway sites without
issue. So therein lies a frustration about why I have some
tough going with GOTD and not with others. In any case, I've
been a daily follower of GOTD for years and have installed a
good amount of software through their innovative program
giveaway (without a problem until recently) I look forward to
many more years of checking out what's available out there
on their site as I am a "download junkie." And it seems I
can never get enough of new and exciting software. Hopefully,
either on my end or theirs, I can get this installation snafu
resolved. And of course, others may do so as well.

My best to Monkey Snark and the GOTD community!

Reply   |   Comment by Joe M.  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Joe M.,

I have gone through problems like this before with my firewall and antivirus rules with other programs in the early days (even when it was user error, umm the idiot at my computer, me, not clicking the proper popup, yes allow it to connect to the internet, so I fired that typist). So, when a program has a problem connecting for some reason, as the validation check, first thing I do is look at those or add a whitelist. Reminds me of that tech video, where the caller is with tech support complaining that the computer is not working properly, and after a half hour of back and forth, he asks her is it plugged in, and she replies yes, I checked right away after the power went out for my area ;).

In fairness, because the GOTD exe is running for the first time (though you could really not call it the first time if you are constantly using a GOTD giveaway), the firewall or antivirus rule would not pop up to allow you to confirm or deny. Also, some have popups suppressed so they will not know that they need to allow it to connect. Anyways, I do not wish to digress.

Glad I could help in some small way.

Regards,

MS

Monkey Snark,

Thank you for your in depth reply. It really helps when people
elaborate and expand on their answers. Although, I can certainly
understand the opposing point of view to that - not enough hours
in the day to 'elaborate and expand!' lol But again, all the more
reason to thank you!

Also, thank you for the humor you injected as well. I'm a person
who can appreciate the merits of lighthearted anecdotes as I try
to incorporate laughter into my daily life when possible. I subscribe
to the old adage laughter is often the best medicine or tonic.

In regard to GOTD, I have downloaded and installed GOTD programs
quite a bit through the years. But not nearly enough because of
aforementioned installing issue these past several months (or 1-2
yrs?) or so. For example, I tried to install GOTD's Ant Download
Manager Pro 1.4.6 and once again was unsuccessful (after a myriad
of attempts). I tried to disable my AV (Avast antivirus) and it
still failed to complete the installation. However, upon your
recommendation, I have now gone into my AV and added
the GOTD website as an "exclusion" to monitoring (In effect,
adding it to the "White List" hopefully). Furthermore, I have
also added the site to my Google Chrome browser as a site
to allow it to download.

So -- I have heeded your advice. And please know your
helpfulness, time, thought and effort that you put
into not only helping with me but with others as well is
not a small help, it's a HUGE help.

Keep on truckin'! :)

Joe

Addendum: I tried to download and install the
USB Safely Remove 6.0 Giveaway today after making
the aforementioned adjustments I stated earlier in this
writing using the suggestions you advised me on doing.
Unfortunately the same result occurred, the error
message, "Failed to connect. Please try again later."
popped up again. Well, it was a worth a try, thank you
anyway! I guess I won't be able to download GOTD
apps unless they make changes to their current system.

P.S. Just to be clear, I USED to install GOTD programs
months or year(s) ago. I haven't been able to anymore
because of this issue.

Joe M.,

Howdy,

It makes me wonder with this constant, "turn off your AV to download if your files are corrupt". Let me back up a bit, by saying, I am far from a techie and know enough to get myself into trouble now and then, grins.

So the AV is constantly causing problems, it would behove me not to suggest, maybe you all need another AV. I stay away from Avast and its counter part AVG and prefer to use the free version of Bitdefender, Windows firewall and the full giveaway version of Zemana antimalware (btw, the people at Zemana are very professional and quick to respond on whitelisting a false positive or any other query you might have). I have the free versions of Emsisoft emergency kit and Malwarebytes (both updated regularly), as on demand back up. I use Virus Total for any program downloaded up to and less then 128mg.

With the above programs and my own vigilance on shit e-mails or bad sites, I am to this day clean, and no problems with any intrusive programs or malware. I never have a corrupt download using the IE Win10 edge browser downloader, and if I was to go for a large download, I have Ant or Jdownloader 2 (the free version). The need to turn off your AV to download or install a program to my mind is counter productive. Why are these problems happening to a number of individuals, lets think on that? Btw, I use the latest Windows 10 updated, with a 7 year old Dell laptop, knock on wood ahh my head works, as it is still working fine. All my PC drivers are updated with the free version of Iobit Driver Booster 4, and this little darling has worked well for years on this laptop, from one version to the latest.

Well, for one, if it is your AV, you need another one, as the one you have for some reason is not functioning properly on your PC, or it is more intrusive then it needs to be, or you have it setup wrong. With this day and age of ransomware as being one of the possibilities you can get infected with, why would you want to turn off your AV? If it is your internet connection, you need to use a download manager which can verify the download. Which brings to mind, if you are constantly having corrupt downloads, using a download manager, for this reason, is mandatory. Another thing, if the download is fine but you think it will not load up being corrupt after you click on it, then right away, go into your antimalware or antivirus program or firewall ( if it needs an internet connection), look at what might be quarantined/blocked, and tell it this exe/program is fine, and reinstate it, and then try again.

Also, you can use hash to check on the validity of your download and that will help tell you what is going on. If the hash is the same as the sites, then your download is correct. If the hash is not the same, then it is your downloader causing problems. If the hash is the same, but when you click on it to install, your file is corrupt, then it is something on your computer that is causing the headache. Oh lets turn off everything so we can run a program, hmm, think I will go back to smoke signals as ways of communicating, bring out paper and crayons to do my art and pictures of what I see, and throw out all my electronics.

Whitelisting a site is only one part of the situation, you need to whitelist a benign program(exe) in your AV and Antimalware as well. Btw, I have downloaded that USB program as well and uploaded fine on my pc. I am sure each individual has different situations for each problem, but the above two, seem to be the most common for bad/corrupt downloads. I try to be methodical on what might be causing a problem and then one by one, look for a solution taking apart what is, and where is, causing the problem(s), and patience is a key factor on dealing with this.

One of my favorite programs is Shadow Defender, as it will allow me to load up programs and see what happens, and what might have changed (there are other freeware versions of this type of sandbox program) or added to my computer. Another is Soft Organizer, as it will trace a exe before you load it up by right clicking on that particular program and then running it. Tells you as well what registry items as well as folders have been added to your computer and allows a good clean uninstall. Both giveaway full versions, and thank you sites that have these giveaways, as in GOTD for one.

Joe, you can contact me, and my e-mail address will probably make you laugh. I will spread it out and use, (at) for @, the joe (at ) live (dot) ca, without all the spaces of course (pretending I am Captain Obvious). I can give you some suggestions on all this and how you can avoid some pitfalls. Do say, Hello Cpt. O., so I will know it is you. Till then.

Monkey Snark,

Well, a lot of sound advice it would seem. Thank you, MS.
You were extremely thorough with various ideas on how I
can get a more hassle free, pleasurable experience with
downloads and installs. Awesome! Thanks again!

Okay, let me give you a for instance. I also get free
promotional software from another web site. I won't
mention the name here because the GOTD folks might
not be too keen on me dropping this web site's
info on GOTD's site. But I will say just last week
I downloaded a program. And I did not have to white
list or take extra steps to install this program. This
issue seems more geared toward GOTD for whatever
reason. I will say this however, I do have a very slow
internet connection (dial up) and somehow I suspect
this may play into it some way. BTW, I do use a
download manager DAP (Download Accelerator Plus)
and FDM (FREE DOWNLOAD MANAGER).

In any case, I too use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
A very effective app that I feel has most definitely
had a positive effect on my PC. High praise for MAM
to be sure.

So, what I've noticed is you really do have quite
an arsenal of software that might be good for me
to delve into and research. Thanks, MS. And incidentally,
as you've probably imagined, I'm not a techie savant
either. Even though I've come a long way from where
I started out, the complexities of these machines can be
daunting to say the least.

Anyway, when I get more time, I will review your
highly informative reply and break it down more
thoroughly and see what has worked for you may
very well solve some of the problems that I tend
to have.

Thank much again , MS, for all your assistance, tips and
software referrals. What you've said makes a lot
of sense. And I think will be invaluable to me moving
forward. And thank you for the EM. I just may take you
up on your exceedingly kind and gracious offer.

Hey, what you do in giving of yourself really makes
a difference and puts forth hope that there truly is a
way to overcome certain obstacles. I only which that
this country and the world could work together in
such a way.

All the Best, Captain O! :)
Joe

Even though currently, there are so many downloader programs like this, that all mostly do the same old basic functions, This is still a good program,
I purchased the license over a year ago, since it was the cheapest, out of only a few, that would work on certain websites.
It is pretty fast, and with good quality. As others have said, It can be intrusive at times, it keeps popping up on every video, without a quick & easy disable option, but it is somewhat better
On recent updates. Unlike similar programs, The Support for ANT D is excellent & detailed in my experience.

So even though ANT D is a great program, it is still limited in features and options, Not much extra to really stand out in extra video features,
compared to similar programs like this. Program needs at least a few improvements and enhancement options to make it more worthwhile
& make it stand out from the huge selection of video and audio downloaders out currently.

***It really badly needs a  video Downloader (Trimmer or slicer option) for all or at least most websites, like similar programs can already do.
with a video trimmer & Crop feature,  so we do not have to download entire lengthy videos, makes downloading so much better,
by only getting the parts of videos desired, and not the entire 1-2 hours of junk that comes with entire web videos most times.

***Along with a video/audio trimmer option, a basic Hot MP4 Video Playlist Crossfading feature, would be nice
Or at least a (Video fade out effect), feature mainly at end of video downloads, so do not have to use an addtl video editor program,
to simply edit and re-encode just to fade out video at end, instead of all videos ending abrubtly,

***Some Addtl Superhot video/audio Options could make avail even if by external video/audio Plugins, VST Effects etc)**
***(Video 5.1 Surr sound effect to max or boost video sound without clipping or distorting or sound effect to max or boost all video sound,
to highest best sounding Same Equal Levels without clipping or distorting, so sound does not jump back & forth too high or too low.
***(Option to (Auto correct) all common video resolution, lighting or sound problems with little time and fuss required .

Downloaded and installed without issue on my Win7/64 laptop.

Firstly, when installing, I recommend that you choose "Custom" (or "Advanced" -- I forget what they call it). While there don't appear to be any PUPs, there are some default settings you may or may not want. (This is good advice whenever you install a new program.)

I've downloaded a few Youtube videos with ADM, and so far I'm impressed. After initially being a little overwhelmed by the huge list of choices, I figured out what I wanted and clicked, and it worked fine*. It will give you a choice between many different qualities of video and formats. I just chose the highest quality of MP4. (If you want HD, you may have to select that in the video itself before the program will offer it as a choice. That happened to me once.)

A 40 minute HD video took about 30 seconds to download, including conversion to MP4. A 1 hr video took about 4 min. The quality of the downloaded videos appears to be excellent.

I haven't really put it through its paces, and I don't have high demands for a download manager, but from what I've seen it's a keeper -- fast, and easy to use. Thank you, ADM and GOTD.

A comment for the devs: I recommend you let a native English speaker proofread the text in the program, for clarity and readability.

*Once I activated it in the browser and used that instead of the desktop icon it gave a more streamlined set of options.

I have one of the previous Ant Download managers from GAOTD. I am trying to install this version on my Windows 10. I have turned off my anti-virus but I'm still getting that the files are corrupt. Do I need to uninstall the older one first for a clean install? I am afraid that I'll lose my current version if I can't get the new one installed.

LisaP, I am using Windows 7 and frequently have the problem you are experiencing. The only way I can install GAOTD programs that use the .gcd installer is to download the files and unzip them as normal. Then close down the computer and restart in safe mode. Once fully in safe mode I find that I can install the GAOTD programs without the dreaded corrupt files message. Not sure how you (or even if you) can boot into safe mode if you're using Windows 10, but if you can, give it a try. Good luck.

I would pay the $22 for this program as I felt it was worth it. But if I don't get good customer service then forget it. I missed out on this program now. Update - the AntGroup got back to me by email and took care of me. I highly recommend this program should anyone look for a good download manager. It is super fast and I rarely have trouble getting things from GAOTD or other sites. This was a fluke I'm sure and they took care of me. Well worth the $22.50 price.

I think it's a very good download manager especially but not only if you want to download videos and streams from diverse sites. i was looking for such software for a long time after StreamTransport ceased being supported by its authors.
Although the last updates of Firefox have not had an effect, a Giveaway from another site a couple of months ago ceased functioning after a particular FF update. I noted the other browsers were not affected.
I very much recommend it and a friend bought the premium version recently because of that.
Thanks to the authors.

I remember this from previously. As I recall, when using it, it worked fabulously - I was immensely happy and impressed with its capabilities. However, when I was NOT actually downloading, it was extremely annoying in that it popped up on every little thing wherever I went - which would be great if I was in constant downloading mode, but aggravating the other 99% of the time. I kept looking for some way to be able to turn it off & on from the Taskbar without having to kill it from the Task Manager, but i could never find it. I finally uninstalled it as simply too annoying. This may be my fault, but by the time I discovered the problem, the download day was over, and as you know, there is no support for gaotd customer/versions. IS there a simple way to turn it off & then back on? And if so, does it require the webpage to be reloaded? Thanks.

RiverboatSam, Don't know if you'll see this as your comment was 8 hrs ago, but ...

I have been using today's version, and while it does give a "Download" button on some videos, it's small and unobtrusive. You could also go into "Extensions" in the customizing area of the browser and disable it until you want to use it.

I had originally downloaded the version of this software that was offered by SoftwareonSale some weeks ago. This one is an updated version of the one I got. However, when I click on the Setup program, the registration notice opens, and you are invited to install Software Informer. However the program does not install. This has happened before to me, and it appears to happen to other people, however GOTD have not moved to fix this problem.

The last time this was offered by GAOTD was when I downloaded it. It was nice, BUT, it caused a stutter in FireFox, or, in other words, every few seconds, FireFox would lock up. It was not only annoying but shows poor programming.

So, when not using it, I disable it in FireFox.

But... what i would like to know is, is that fixed now or is it still there? If its still there, I won't bother downloading it.

Hi Kiwi1960,
I have been using Ant Download Manager for some time now and I never had any issues with Firefox.

You may want to try the refresh option in Firefox which will rebuild your Firefox profile folder.
Extensions will need to be reinstalled though and you will loose the customizations you made.

Take care.

Possible solution, it worked for me after trying over 20 times of re-downloading and deleting. I am using Windows 10. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE NOTE OF YOUR ORGINAL SETTINGS FIRST. From your browser 1) go to Settings. 2) select Advanced settings - view in Advanced settings. Then put to ON: a) Open sites in Apps = ON
b) Offer to save passwords = ON.
I had turned of my AV and Win Defender, but with no effect. For some odd cause the Windows 10 pre-installed Store App seems to affect the opening of the GOTD .EXE files. Good luck

Buying a license allows the project to live and grow.

I do like what I have seen so far.

May I ask you two questions?

Question #1: What is you Minor Updates (v1.0 to v1.99) & Major Upgrades (v1.x to v2.x, etc) Policy?

Question #2: Are you open to program suggestions?

I Would actually BUY This PROGRAM if you could assure me that You would "attempt" to add the following 2 Features as Options into the program:

Item #1: Option to Get File Date and Time from the Server

Item #2a: Option to Write individual *.log for each downloaded file, in addition to creating a Master Log

Item #2b: Option to Move or Delete LOG File when Moving or Deleting the downloaded file.

If You could add those 2 OPTiONAL FEATURES into the program I will move away from FlashGet v1.9.6 1073 to Ant Download Manager Pro "in a heartbeat", and I will also tell my FRiENDS and Direct my CLiENTS towards ADMP.

FlashGet does have bugs and limitations and I would dearly like to find a program that is capable of moving with the times, but I really cannot do without the File Date and Time and Individual Log file features.
