I tried an earlier version giveaway promo of this program for awhile. My main problem with it -- and why I discontinued usage -- was that the program was annoyingly intrusive. (This was explained in much more detail in a review I left here that is no longer up.) Ant DM would constantly jump in and try to grab all sorts of things that were not of interest. If I specifically wished to download using some other tool or extension, it would clash with that. I set a large number of rules or exceptions in the Ant program settings to curtail this behavior -- many of which were simply ignored. Until and unless that situation changes, Ant is not going to be a good choice for me. Beyond that, when trying to root out many videos where they "don't want you to be able to grab them", you would most likely be better off with a more targeted video d/l tool, such as Videoget or Tubedigger.

AntDM,

I probably did, but it was quite some time ago, and would have been on a different computer than the one I am typing from at the moment. (Though likewise running Win-7.) What I would really like to see is a detailed program Changelog, demonstrating awareness of the issues I mentioned and that they were being dealt with. It wasn't just me: I've seen numerous user comments that confirmed what I was talking about. Basically, what I was looking for was optional, specific, *on-request* operation by Ant-DM, as opposed to always, automatic, *on-access* behavior, which becomes akin to dragging a gigantic drift-net through the ocean. But maybe that's the way your program is designed to work ? With the other download programs such as I mentioned, I prefer to say "Bring me _this_ from a particular site" (where I can determine a particular URL for it), or to choose from a list of whatever is detected at a given site. I definitely Do NOT want a program to *on its own* start automatically downloading things that I have not asked it to.

Today (next day; installed late last night) I downloaded my first file (the ZIP file for today's offer of Wise Care 365 Pro) using ADM as integrated into my browser. It downloaded really fast -- it seemed near-instant!

(Perhaps it was already downloading in the background while I looked over the download options, and would have merely canceled/cleaned up any partially downloaded file should I have decided not to keep it.)

Anyway, just wanted to comment that during the default "full" installation there appeared a third option to "Launch WinPCap 4.1.3 Network Sniffer Engine Installer. It helps to catch more links."

However, the ANT installer would not allow me to check/select the box. Looking at the online HELP I think I understand that this is only available for the purchased version of ANT. A few extra words to that effect in the ANT installer would be helpful for users doing future installs; i.e., something like:

"Launch WinPCap 4.1.3 Network Sniffer Engine Installer. It helps to catch more links (only available for the purchased version of ANT)."

Also, I noticed that WinPcap ( https://www.winpcap.org/ ) is no longer supported for several years now and has been replaced by Npcap ( nmap.org/npcap/ ) which has a WinPcap compatability mode for older applications.

Perhaps the developer of ANT should consider switching to Npcap as it is "...based on the wonderful WinPcap / Libpcap libraries, but with improved speed, portability, security, and efficiency..."

SOMETHING DOESN'T seem quite right with your payment providers who appear to be charging both different exchange rates and total prices including Australian 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST)

.

USD $22.50 converted to Australian Dollars $31.2843 AUD

Using xe.com [https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?Amount=22.50&From=USD&To=AUD]
1 AUD = 0.719210 USD
1 USD = 1.39041 AUD

Add on 10% Goods and Services Tax price becomes equivalent of USD $24.75 which equals: $34.4133

According to the two (2) purchase options Your website provides thru PayProglobal or MyCommerce (secure.Shareit.com) the following prices are obtained:

1: PayProglobal TOTAL = $41.13 AUD

37.39 AUD
Total: 41.13 AUD
GST (10.00%): 3.74 AUD

or

2: My Commerce = TOTAL: 37.91 AUD

(includes 10% GST to 34.46 AUD: 3.45 AUD)

.

The two payment providers are charging not only different exchange rates but I haven't seen these sorts of differences since 2009.

It would appear to be a better option for most people to pay in US DOLLARS if they have access to a VPN even if GST would be added at some point in the process.

Today I really was going to buy a Lifetime License but until I can sort out the different payment prices looks like I'll have to hold off or get a VPN.

.

ON ANOTHER MATTER

I know You told me previously Your company has a policy of not copying the technology of other download programs and their creators (which is virtuous), but some of the FLASHGET Features I've previously asked You about, are over 10 years old (for example features found in version 1.9.6.build 1073) and FlashGet's creators have dropped the "Downloads Master Log" and "linked individual logs that stay with the download".

Personally those OPTiONS would make ANT DM Pro a much better program than for example a notice that says "File not found" just because the user has moved the download from its original download location.

I live in Hope, that You may have a change of heart about some of my previous suggestions to improve your otherwise excellent program.

#1 about dollar rate & taxes -
I once tried to find out what caused such fluctuations in the dollar, the euro against national currencies. It was hard to understand.
Obviously due to the reinsurance of the company and banks through which the warrant. As well as with the registration of Canadian and German companies. Unfortunately, I can not influence this, as well as to understand the details. Sorry!

#2 I a little dont understand. Did you ask me about download log?
If yes, then is a plan, but there is no time to do it. This task is in TODO.

#3 I always appreciate any opinions and suggestions, even if they are not included in the immediate plans.
If the task is large or not too claimed, it is recorded in the TODO.
If you read what our users write below, then you might think it wasn’t worth changing anything at all, because yesterday the program was better and the day before yesterday amazing. Sometimes innovations for some users contradict the wishes of other users.

The best software of it's kind, full stop.

Full featured, fast download and conversion, large amount of supported sites, decent support and easy to follow step by step instructions on the website to get the very best out of it.

Many developers offer a limited discount for GOTD users and I would recommend that the devs do the same in future and it will attract more paid subscriptions.

This is an upgrade from version 1.7.0 that we got the last time it was offered on this site; I wish they would list what changes has been made in this upgrade (now version 1.11.0).
When installing I was told that I needed to close 'iCloud services' and 'Apple Push' (no idea where these are located on my computer), Any Download Manager pro offered to close these programs but failed to do so. I then decided to bypass this problem and it went ahead and installed Ant Download Manager Pro with these two programs still active.
I tried the program to see if it was still working after telling me to close two programs during install and it seems to work OK.
Apart from Internet Download Manager, Ant Download Manager Pro is a good program at downloading almost any internet video.

As a video downloader, the chrome extension puts a download link right over the video in many sites and gives you options for the download quality, but I found this to not work all the time. It doesnt have screen record capabilities such as allavsoft when it cant download from the site for example. A few test videos sometimes did not pop up the download video button at all over the video even hovering the mouse. and sometimes only shows one webm video selection instead of the full range of size options at other times or after a reload. As a general downloader it works but also pops up the chrome built in download at the same time when you click the normal web link thats not the video, maybe it needs to pop up a download link like the video one when you hover on a link without clicking if this cannot be fixed otherwise. At the moment I still prefer the older free download manager 3.9.7 (not 5.1 yet), clipgrab for free download at some sites and for paid allavsoft or icecream screen recorder for additional video screen recording so far but this program has potential and I will keep an eye on it.

Some of the videos from youtube for example that the program does support did not pop up the download video button over it at all sometimes and other times it did, and did not always give the full range of size options consistantly but sometimes did when reload the page, there was no particular reason why it was or wasnt loading them is what I meant indicating some work needs to be done.

I've installed ADM on my Windows 10 computer, I checked all install options to add it as an extension for Google Chrome, Firefox and IE, but I can't see the extension anywhere in any of those browsers. Apparently, I didn't install it as an extention.

How do you install it as an extension?

Thanks for your help!

PS: Great giveaway... I tried it last time, and it worked great!

A few months ago I did some "serious" looking for a download manager. I tried well over 12 programs. I wrote down Pros and Cons for each one and took my time testing them out. Ant is the DM that I kept, but it's not perfect. I would have chosen IDM if it was free, but I got Ant through a giveaway. So here are a few of my personal Pros/Cons for Ant DM:

Pros:
Plenty of options.
Can control speed for each individual DL.
Can pause / stop / restart with a right click menu.
They seem to listen to customers. One review wanted the green bar on the taskbar icon and they later added that.
Uses little ram (about 15MB or less while minimized).

Cons:
Not free but often found in giveaways.
Leaves a process open after you close it. After closing that out, you can actually rename the exe file for the process and the program runs just fine without. I think it's for IE integration. (antMR.exe)
Runs 2 unnecessary programs at Windows startup. Easily disabled with AutoRuns.
Doesn't have the best speed limiting options (the reason I wanted a DM). They don't seem to be accurate. They don't work on all sites.
The preset speed levels don't seem to work at all for me, probably all of them are set to a higher threshold than my top DL speed. These preset levels are not customizable (and should be).
Failed several times on YouTube with a "WIN258" error, something they claim they have fixed. I'm using v1.10.1.
Trying to DL a YouTube video, the DL starts, gets a few kilobytes and restarts. It will do this many times over. Then suddenly work and DL the file. I have another way (without Ant DM) of doing this and it works 1st try every time.
Pathetic browser integration, half working or not working at all. I gave up on it with Firefox. Maybe I just didn't try hard enough but if it works, it's not an easy thing to get working.

My 2nd place program would have been Ninja (an old free version) which you can find around on the net. Free Download Manager was 3rd in my opinion. I've seen JDownloader mentioned here too, Java is the most insecure software on the net. It was one of the first ones I dropped off of my list. Along with XDM (another Java downloader). Avoid Java.

Umm, installed and Kaspersky removed immediately. Disabling, installing running and re-enabling Kaspersky does not help. This NEEDS to be addressed. I refuse to give a thumbs-up that cannot even pass basic live scans when the application is started.

User101,

Quote from our FAQ:

My Anti-Virus detects malware, blocks software from running and triggers a virus alert for AntDM. Do you distribute malware?

There are numerous comments of our users who write about the blocking of our software by their Anti-Viruses. They often think that we are distributing malware. These alarm messages of Anti-Virus programs is called False Positives.
The 90s passed, at that time users were infected their PC with getting the software. Currently, if we distribute the malware, Google will quickly block our site and guys in uniform will come to our home! Now one of the main ways to infect your computer is to install the exploit on the hacked sites that you visit daily. This happens imperceptibly and anonymously.
We do not have the ability to install several dozens of anti-virus software to test our software. Instead, we are testing a release build on a popular resource virustotal.com designed for such purposes. If the tests pass without false positives or with a minimum number, then a new version of AntDM is released.
Thank you for understanding!

Seems to have a bit of problem with the version of Windows 10 I'm using (ver 18298). More than likely an issue with the pre-release of windows but the application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b)

Dave, you can try to disable your anti-virus and start software again. Perhaps the antivirus blocks the launch of the app. This is not software error. If you think we can spread malware, then refuse this advice.

Reply   |   Comment by AntDM  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-4)

AntDM, disabled anti-virus software (Windows Defender) and no change. As I mentioned earlier, likely something to do with the pre-release version I'm running.

AntDM, I had the same issues as Dave, and antivirus was disabled. Nothing to do with malware. I too believe it's the release I'm running.

Once upon a time, this software worked great. In it's later incarnations however, it doesn't work for ME. It either downloads everything in sight when I don't want it to, or when I deliberately download something using a browser download, it doesn't intercept it and "help it along." I've also had it keep trying to download a failed download forever. I kept trying to use it over several versions until finally, I'm just not interested anymore. Maybe it works for other people. Meanwhile I'll keep looking for another product.

It demands read access to all data on all the web sites one will visit.

It should only be allowed / ask for a restricted reading access to urls only and not a full reading access.

I have JDownloader, it's fantastic! Allavsoft it's great, almost being fantastic but not quite there. Wondershare's AllMyTube it's just okay. One of the three gets what I want 99% of the time. If they don't, I record it with Allavsoft or AllMyTube making up that last 1%. May as well try Ant Download Manager and see how it does. Thanks to Ant Download Manager and GOTD for the offer!

Download managers have to constantly morph due to changing protocols in downloading videos. I have GOTD Ant Download Manager 1.7.9 and am pleased with it. So far only 3 or 4 videos wouldn't d/l out of dozens. I will be upgrading to this version.
