Has anyone found a way to rotate the background image before starting a project? I have several photos I would like to use, but they were taken with a smartphone and are "sideways", and I can't find any way to rotate them 90 degrees to use them "upright" as a background image. Even photos that appear upright when I open them in Windows photo viewer are still sideways when I open them with Animated Screensaver Maker.

This is what Win 7 is missing on it's wallpaper program. It should be a part of the windows system. This is a keeper and a winner to me I just did a one wallpaper for fun. Got to tinkering with every one of it's tools and it was so easy and intuitive that it's almost a perfect coded GUI; if there is really such a thing. I didn't have to lookup anything it was just self explanatory to me. I consider myself a sufficiently talented fool Seasoned in the School of Hard Knocks that can easily destroy any thing but this was so easy that I had a blast. It didn't break so I Will grade this as a 9. I can never give a ten because that just hasn't ever happened. This though is one for all my computers till it comes standard in all of them. This is a worthy buy for the work invested and what it does. Bravo "Desktop Paints" and GAOTD.

Hey I was wondering can the screensavers be converted into GIF's for use on the internet?

It works in the background even if not used and take 5-10% of the CPU time slices and 100-200MB of DRAM, no thanks.

mosley,

"It works in the background even if not used and take 5-10% of the CPU time"

Like most any software using Direct X graphics, it also uses the GPU [graphics processor] -- the more capable the GPU, the more this processing is switched from the CPU to the GPU. While Task Mgr. won't show GPU use, you can monitor it with the free GPU-Z, the free MSI Afterburner, & maybe with the free CPUId HWMonitor.

When you have a separate or discreet GPU, i.e. one that's not part of the CPU package, e.g. a laptop with a 2nd GPU for performance or a desktop PC with graphics card, that activity is often enough to bring it out of its power saving mode. How much more power [electricity] is used, along with how much you care about that varies -- I think the screensavers created are cute, but I won't run them as a Windows default because of that.

I did not work in WinXP Virtual.
In a new Win10 a certain DLL was absent:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/AnimatedScreensaverMaker432_20161118/MeldingMissingDLL.png
To save as a SCR did work:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10366431/_GOTD/AnimatedScreensaverMaker432_20161118/SCR-Maken.png
A examples, but strange: virustotal.com did find something in it:

The SCR, perhaps first download and then Test(at your own risk):

Ootje,

"I did not work in WinXP Virtual."

I wouldn't expect it to run well in my XP Mode VM -- it just doesn't have great DX support -- but I was surprised to see in my VBox XP VM that the app wouldn't run with a message that it wasn't a valid win32 app.

"In a new Win10 a certain DLL was absent:"

10's native DX is supposed to be, but isn't 100% DX 9 compatible -- it's not that unusual to have to install DX 9 in 10.

This GOTD will not work on XP. When I tried to run it said the same thing the other incompatible programs have said:
"C:\Program Files\Animated Screensaver Maker\Editor_S.exe is not a valid Win32 application."

Easy and quick installation on windows 10. It's OK if you like this sort of thing but options are fairly limited to make it anything but a novelty.

As noted by Evgeny, there is an update to this version (4.3.2 to 4.3.3)

What’s New:
1. New particle engine preset, the Water Jet animation, has been added.
2. New Warping brush, the Stretch Brush, has been added.
3. New splash particle have been added to the Particle library.
4. Smooth spline path option has been added available for imported animations.
5. The blending techniques of the Light brush have been significantly improved.
6. New high quality images for the Cloud animations have been added.
7. New particle options, start and end value for fade in and out transitions, have been added.
8. The Cancel button has been added to all the Export process dialogs.
9. Now all particle systems have the full number of particles on load.
10. Reset timing action now immediately reloads all particle systems in the scene.
11. The bug with low density values has been fixed in the particle systems.
12. The bug with displaying interface lines has been fixed.

The download is 22 MB, but (if you look in c:\programdata) downloads as an .exe, so handy to install later or on another PC.

drvajra,

"I couldn't find it in c:\programdata"

Monitoring installation & update in my VBox win7 32 bit VM, the file "ss_maker.exe" [22.4MB] was left in the User Temp folder -- Users\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Local\ Temp\

Hi drvajra,

you can simply rename the created .scr file in .exe ,
that worked for me. I took a look to the media info of the.scr file und found it a MZ format, an old DOS format for an executable.

By the way - noody here whoknows freeware to convert .scr in .mp4 ???
I did´nt found yet...

Christopher Deakin,

"only makes screen saver animations"

Today's GOTD works like a game in the respect that it doesn't play video files, but creates what you see on-screen live as it happens. To turn what you see live into a video then, you could probably use many of the same methods you'd use to record game play. Or you could run it in a VM & use screen capture without worrying about exiting the screen saver.

I was just about to download it but after reading the comments about export options, decided it's not really useful as only a screensaver. So, going to pass on this until they offer more export options.

What a loss! This is a GREAT software which helps you make all kinds of animations with ease.
I cannot thank enough GAOTD and DeskTopPaints for offering this updated version.

After installation, it checked for update and said that the new version is available, so i suppose it'll show this message everytime you run it, I didn't find an option to switch off update checking , you can't activate it if you're blocking it in firewall or don't have an internet access.
Looking at their example projects, I wish they could be saved as a video, which I can then use for the intros, but the only output format is the windows screensaver file, that's not surprising, but it kind of making it useless for me, cause I don't remember last time I was seeing screensaver on my laptop, I just don't use them, screensavers are for dinosaur monitors, I don't know who uses them now.
They're 2 options when exporting a project, "Install a new screensaver" and "Build and save a Windows screensaver file (.scr)", the later will let you choose location where you want to save the screensaver, and you can then share that file with other Windows users.
Another option could be to save them as live wallpapers, it's not a native Windows thing though, but that would be cool, however it's not the specialty of this software.
it's possible to use a screen recording software to record the animation and then use it as a video but that's kind of inconvenient.
So if you're interested in making Windows screensavers then this software is for you.

Adrian,
I have the thoroughly modern LCD 19" monitors. And I can see more of the page text etc on most website pages on them than the widescreen 24 inch "class" TV/monitor I also have near the computer.

About ACM: The sample pictures are really beautiful and have very realistic movement etc. -- But -- I don't like the distraction they cause on an already crowded monitor with many shortcuts on it.

It was difficult to download the update but it finally automatically installed and kept the free registration. So thanks to ACM and GOTD for an interesting program.

Installed quick and easy on Win 8. Looks like we had this before, but it's not installed on my PC so maybe it was a while ago.

Works fine, has some nice effects and the usual array of boring ones. Looks to be a bit more customizable than I recall the old one being, so will play for a bit.

Having trouble adding my suggestion on the IdeaInformer page! No "submit" button shows and pressing enter just clears the field - I suggest that page get updated first. I think I got it to work, but just in case it failed...

My suggestion is more export options. Video files or image sequences would allow us to use the animations for many things other than screen savers and make this a much more versatile and useful program. It's too limited as it is.

A fun distraction, but screen savers are just not a thing that I care about these days. If one starts up it means I should either get back to work or shut down my computer! They don't get much attention from me except to turn them off.

Noah Body, you need DP Animation Maker I think. There is video and sequence export. I think project file can open there too. I can opened my project with Animated Wallpaper Maker too, what I made with Animated Screensaver Maker. ;-)
One project working in all (same version) DP programs I think, just try it with demo versions.
Today giveaway DP softwares is a very expensive, I recommend it!

Mike Menders,

What?

Reply   |   Comment by Marty  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

Marty, I found minimum three products from this developer:
- DP Animation Maker
- Animated Wallpaper Maker
- Animated Screensaver Maker (today giveaway)

I made a project with Animated Screensaver Maker (with wallpaper, effects, animations etc.). After save this project I opened with Animated Wallpaper Maker demo and I can save as animated wallpaper too without any change. I think with DP Animation maker can generate video, exe and image sequence (as GIF or PNG) too.

Great this idea: create one project only and save to any format with these programs.

Noah Body,

"A fun distraction, but screen savers are just not a thing that I care about these days. If one starts up it means I should either get back to work or shut down my computer!"

FWIW & IMHO, one place Animated Screensaver Maker is great is for those using a HTPC [Home Theater PC], or really anytime you have a PC & monitor in say the living room that could serve as decoration rather than a black screen.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Noah Body, I use multiple virtual desktops on multiple devices and one of them has an additional monitor. This program is great for a desktop that isn't in current use or is only using a monitor at the time.
