First...it says Fold Lock...not bragging about encryption.
Second...it's there when I do a reboot.
Third...glad to see the people who can't read are still around.

Of course there are more secure programs, free and paid...but if you just want to keep a couple of files or folders
away from other users, this works great.
Depending on the size of the folder, if you want to use a stronger encryption method, than be prepared to wait a
day and a half for it to do so.
Some people always seem to over analyze everything on this site.
Guess it makes them feel special or something.
Thanks GOTD and the vendor for this.

Mothman, If you are referring to Ootje's post, which I believe you are, glad you did not read it, either. If you notice, it stated that files were not there if the software was shut off (expired, no longer working etc), and that re-installing software never showed them again. To me that is not "over analyzing" but it is pointing out an issue.
And when a folder does get locked for security purposes, be nice to know what encryption it uses to "lock it"

DJ,

Of course the files won't be available without the software installed...

Mothman, They were not there after the software was "turned back on" either. I've used similar programs, and you can see the files if you "turn off" the software...that plus I don't need Linux to discover another "hidden" hidden file.

Did a test in Win10 on some files and maps. Locked also Hidden.
After a reboot of Windows and restart without the GOTD-software the files/maps were not accessible.
BUT after a re-installation of the software I could not open the files and maps.
Restarted the PC with Linux there was more info:

The hidden map I could not see.

Ootje, thank you for your always helpful comments and pics. I always stay away from GOTD encryption offers for this reason, unless I am compelled to buy them immediately. This reason being that my data could easily be left inaccessible if I lose the original installation.

Note for English speakers: Dutch 'map'= English 'folder'. I learned this the hard way once when I thought I was downloading a "map" of a friend's 1TB stackstorage account.

Ootje, That is a huge flaw, Ootje. Thanks for pointing to it. Who wants to go through hoops to find their files, and it also shows if the software is uninstalled, need to be a magician to find them again.

Bebop17, " Dutch 'map'= English 'folder'"
Thanks for the info.
In Dutch sometimes I call it also folder, and sometimes map.
So now it's easier to call it folder.
Some years(40) ago I could read a English books/detectives. I missed only 20 words a page. But with some imagining I "translated" them, so the story could go on.

If I lock my flash drive from my PC how do I unlock it at a different location / PC? Other similar free software resides on the flash drive to accomplish this.

Time limited encrytion is a no no!

Use AxCrypt, FlashCrypt etc which are freeware and really great products.

Pass.

No installation possible (virus scanner switched off), announcing "successfully activated" when running setup.exe, but no program installed!

No obvious mention of what encryption algorithms this offers in the marketing material here or on their site which to me suggests it is not using a strong encryption algorithm like AES-256 or better. Also can't see what the paid upgrade offers over the apparently always free edition... http://amazing-share.com/free-folder-password-lock.html

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+23)

TK,
You can only encrypt ONE file or folder with the free edition...

Reply   |   Comment by Mothman  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

Mothman, Oh dear so the advertised Free edition of this is not a Free edition but a cripleware trial like their https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/amazing-any-data-encryption-5-1-1/ free edition of that one... no mention of ANY restrictions on the website but when you go to use the so called Free programs you are permited to try out the encryption on ONE single file and if you want to do ANY more you have to buy it... or obtain a giveaway license. I personaly will not support a company that uses deceptive bait and switch marketing tactics implying they are providing a free edition with all the advertised features and a paid version with no apparent advantage... because no restrictions are made public knowledge about the so called Free Edition when really the Free edition is just a severly crippled trial... not even a 7 day trial but a ONE file encryption trial!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Mothman, so the free edition is a cripleware trial and not a freeware fully functional program... got it, thanks.

Brilliant software - I would suggest that once you open a locked folder that when you have closed the folder after use it should automatically relock. Currently when you open a locked folder and then close it remains unlocked. However I do like this software Many Thanks...

Dave, Perhaps you should read Ootje's post #7, Dave. It's made me decide to steer clear of this software.

DJ, There is no #7 unless something has been removed and the rest renumbered. It is now #6 with your reply.

Dave, freeware AxCrypt will automatically relock!

Hadrianus, sure they can... we do not know the true criteria used by the various moderators on the main giveawayoftheday.com site. It is inconsistent and actions occour without rhyme or reason or explanation or notification. Sometimes positive comments are removed sometimes comments are silently edited other times potentially embarrasing comments are removed other times posts that are direct personal attacks against a commenter are allowed even though it is explicitly against terms and conditions...

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  5 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Hadrianus, if you are going that route then discussing the moderators proclivities should also not be allowed.... but comparing the giveaway with other software free or not is relevent to the days giveaway as those that are said to be better than the giveaway could contain ideas and features the days vendor/developer could incorporate into the software given away in the future. Also seeing as this sites revenue is ad-based posts that attract visitors and controversy and repeat visits during the day increases the number of advert impressions... There are more things in play than just the software on the days giveaway.

Zen , Odd...yesterday, as you noticed and I remarked to (although looks as thou it did not make it) it was in fact #6, as it looked as thou another post was removed. I distinctly remember it being #7...now it is #7 again, with Kate's post taking up #6??
