Question: when is an ULTiMATE Version, not really the Ultimate at all?

Answer: According to other commenters, when the user has to pay to unlock certain features.

So in the light of a number of people who have bothered to leave a comments, shouldn't the title have read:

@drvajra I have experienced this in the past. I found that it was AVG blocking installation. It sometimes does this and, inexplicably, does not display any AVG identifiable message. Turning AVG off temporarily usually allows installation to proceed. Don't forget to turn AVG back on!

The interface looks clean and well-designed, first impression is pretty much good. Without further ado, I converted a 16-mins .mod file, the converting speed performs effectively and the output .mp4 video only minimum quality loss. I keep it because I used to use Handbrake and other free alternatives like Avidemux , VideoInspector and WinX Video Converter

The best video converter I have used and continue to use (no other), Is: AVCHD Converter (free version). It has MP4 HD, AVI HD, MPG HD, iMovie, MP4, AVI, Final Cut Pro, Nokia, iPad, iPod. It has other HD & 3D formats plus lots of Audio formats, Device formats, Wed share etc etc. I just use MP4 HD or AVI HD. I use the Trim feature, it also has Watermark, Crop and Subtitle. It's the first converter to put my videos up on youtube in 720p.

Very disappointed. I uninstalled my earlier version of the software, but when I unzipped the setup folder for the new version and clicked on the Setup.exe file I was notified that the setup files are corrupted. This happened every time I downloaded the setup file for the new version. Please help. I am using Windows 7.

Don't know what I am doing wrong, but I'm not getting any sound when I use this program to download a video from YouTube. . . . . However, when downloading the same video, using WonderFox DVD Video Converter, I do get sound? So there must be some setting in WonderFox that I am overlooking. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Tested with 2 Youtube video downloads using this Aiseesoft Video Converter Ultimate. Both videos have very loud and clear sound properly synchronised. However, I normally use another specialised downloader software to download Youtube videos.

I tried to convert an .mkv to .mp4 and after about 20 minutes I had about 20% done. This is TTTTTOOOOOOOOO slow. After all, this convertion is only a "reboxing". There's nothing to convert really!! And CUDA IS WORKING!!
Now I'm trying a convertion of a low res classical consert with up-convertion. It's taking the time of the consert! Let's see the output result.

Ho, hum, IMO.

Same 'ol interface.
Busy, not very informative.
Plethora of presets.
(Gets in the way.)
Two skins, neither work particularly well with my eyes.
(Blue worked better for me.)

Presets.
I'd much rather have only the few that I would actually deal with, & then provide meaningful settings with that.

Settings.
As in, it should default to existing resolutions, frame rates, aspect ratios...
You cannot even select an "as original" resolution.
Likewise you are forced to select a specific bitrate rather then being able to use a CRF or similar setting.

No "copy" (pass-through) formats.
Everything you want to do requires a transcode, even if that is not necessary.
Like if you wanted to change the container, say from .flv to .mp4 (for whatever reason), you should be able to do just that - losslessly, in a few seconds, but you can't.
(And yes, that assumes that the actual codecs used are compatible with the wanted container.)

Likewise a merge, if the clips are same size, format... should be able to be done losslessly, in a few seconds, instead of actually performing a transcode.
( And yes, many operations do require a transcode, but not all.)

So here we are with an "ultimate" & were are we from the time before or the time before that or the time before that or...

How about actually enhancing the program over time, or at least getting the program to operate at least up to par against its free competitors.
Now there's an idea.

If all you need is something that you can throw a video into & get something back out on the other end, then this may do.

No problem with download nor installation on my not so new notebook (Win 10, 64Bit)
Upscaling YT clip from its original 1280 x 682 (118 MB) to 1920 x 1280 (839 MB) worked very well indeed, absolutely excellent quality. Now you may argue that upscaling from HD to full HD is nonsense, given the inflation in MB . However if a video clip is meant to show something in detail (e.g. Photoshop work) the difference for older eyes is quite significant.
My full praise to Aiseesoft and honest thanks to Giveawayoftheday !

I miss Karl.... reading the comments these days doesn't give the information that he used to...

I'm using an older version and have loved it - will upgrade to this one today.

The ONLY beef I have ever had is that even with an i5 with 12 gig of ram, if I use the 'default' of 4 videos at a time, the machine slows down to backwards.... there should be a control setting that only allows a certain amount of ram and cpu to be occupied by the program....

Reply   |   Comment by Robert  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

dear Robert, every windows machine allows you to kill unnecessary tasks and set priorities. Those 12 GB of RAM and an i5 do not actually make a machine designed for heavy-duty video rendering.
What information could Karl or anybody give you without the specific knowledge of all hardware components of your particular computer ?

It depends a bit if it is a mobile I5 or a desktop I5 and the generation, but it should be good enough to use the gotd by far.
¨The ONLY beef I have ever had is that even with an i5 with 12 gig of ram, if I use the 'default' of 4 videos at a time, the machine slows down to backwards.... there should be a control setting that only allows a certain amount of ram and cpu to be occupied by the program....¨.
There is a CPU affinity setting under preferences.. Convert... Some older I5´s were dual core, but mostly they are quadcores, free 1 or 2 cores if you want to use your pc while converting.
B.t.w. Watch out for the cropping flaw in the gotd package. If you use cropping a lot, test it first on an other pc to see if you can live with it. See my other post.

Always looking for a better converter. However...........Cuda is a performance enhancement which USED to be in the older Nvidia driver versions which can use the GRAPHIC CARDS GPU which will enable faster converting. Since this feature(Cuda) is no longer active is the new Graphic Cards, there is nothing anyone can do to impliment the Cuda in their software. Nvidia is just forcing people to buy the REAL COSTLY Graphic Cards hence is one of the reason Cuda was taken away. I will still use this converter because I have a reallly fast I7 processor so it kinda takes the place of CUDA but could of even been faster.

Reply   |   Comment by Christian Soldier  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

I wish Aiseesoft and others would implement the new APIs used by NVidia for their CUDA support. NVidia removed support for their older API in new driver versions. There is a way to get support for the old API back after each new video driver update, but it involves manually copying old NVidia .DLLs from an older driver back into the Windows folders - and it probably won't continue to work indefinitely, AND it's a pain (no thanks to NVidia)! It works fine with my GTX960 though, and still makes conversions in this type of software run a LOT faster, especially if you have an older AMD CPU and an NVidia card. I may download this giveaway to give it a try, as previous versions worked pretty well.

I don´t have "the perfect videoconverter". It is also what values someone finds to be important: sharpness, high conversion speed, correct picture/sound synchronicity, few artifacts, output with fluid motion (no "hiccups"), editing functions, compression, whether and if subtitles can be added etc.
To me picture/sound synchronicity and correct cropping features are a must. I tested 20+ videoconverters, and few remained. This is one of them, it is in my top 3. But what about this new version?

Testing it, there were some problems; preview cropping windows did not match what was set, and what was worse, the output was not wat was set too.
However, when I installed the Aiseesoft trial from their site it was done correctly in the preview (It seems that the options letterbox, medium pan & scan etc are not reflected in the preview of the cropping section; only in the outputfile: that could cause some surprises). Output was correct too.

Though this program remains one of the best in my collection, improvements in the core were not made; lots of things are add-ons. I would like to see a selection of higher bitrates and VBR for instance. Some add-ons are very good, like the noise reduction.
Would like to have it, can´t keep it though; the download of gotd has serious cropping flaws (tested it on 2 different computers, trials had no cropping errors on both computers, the three gotd package i downloaded did). I will have to keep the old version.

GOTD package: faulty cropping, not only in the preview but also in the output: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate01.png

Trial: cropping Ok: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate03.PNG
Trial: Other clip, other computer: cropping Ok: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate04.png

The trial worked very well; very good performance in every way...

Screenshots second clip gotd: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate05.png . The yellow + on the far left of the top window (on the height of Top margin) should show the center of the cropping area normally: this is clearly faulty. Trying to drag the edges makes it worse : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate08.png

In the trial; and this is how it should be: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11463671/gotd/aiseesoftultconv/Aiseesoftconverterultmate04.png

Reply   |   Comment by Deb  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-6)

GivawayOfTheDay offerings will not register if installed at a later date because the installation process "phones home" to check if the offering is still available.

Installing a non-portable program to a USB stick doesn't help because the registration process writes data to the registry. This hidden data will be absent from what is on the USB stick.

Very nice enhancements since last version. Conversion of an MKV went smoothly. D/L from youtube also smooth and easy.

A high quality software from a company with a deserved good rep. Not much more to say. All features tested worked well.

I can't evaluate the CUDA conversion but also wonder, since these aren't games, why it's important.

How does it compare with iSkysoft Video Converter Ultimate?

Reply   |   Comment by Adam  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-20)

A while back I compared the outputs of several popular audio/video converters including Aiseesoft and iSkysoft Video Converter Ultimate. Many of the converters use the FFmpeg codec library which is what really determines the output quality. I'm not sure what iSkysoft uses but I can tell you that the audio and video output quality of iSkysoft (Wondershare?) is noticeably better at the same bit rates.

I've always liked the Aiseesoft video conversion products and have bought a couple along the way.

They tend to be faster than the competition and offer more choices within the scope of the programs abilities.

This one, like previous generations does a good ans speedy job and pretty much gives me all the options that I would generally need.

This version adds 4k settings, which do seem to work, although 4k seems to produce real 4k resolution by default and not the standard consumer UHD.

The only confusing option is the Video Enhance settings.

You tick up to 3 boxes to get enhancements but in no way does it seem to link to any of the presets, so when you look at a converted video in mediainfo after a conversion, there isn't anything different to what you would see if you don't use the enhancements, so this needs clearing up by Aiseesoft as at the moment it seems a gimmick that has no real use.

Cuda and AMD GPU support has long been with Aiseesoft products but I wish they would add the freely available Intel Quicksync.

The one criticism I would level at Aiseesoft, like others is that they have far too many overlapping products and should concentrate on getting the numbers down to 2 or 3 of this genre, where it is easy for a prospective purchaser to know what to buy.

I'm keeping this one as it's as fast as older versions and with a few additional presets that may come in use.

Reply   |   Comment by PhilS  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+22)

As far as the enhancements are concerned the explanations given are relatively easy to understand and I for one cannot image that any media information would disclose such details. I am not a videoworker but I do work with Adobe Photoshop and in none of the file formats known to me did I ever find metadata referring to actual filters for sharpening, noise reduction used within the software. The video presets are one thing, the pictorial improvements another. I have not tried that many presets yet, but my preferred one certainly allows adjustments to suit my personal requirements.

I had Version 6.3.6 before this version.
Tested Version 9.0.8 with sample video file. Convert from MP4 to XVID.
Did not use the "Enhance" option. No need.
Happy enough if the conversion is quick, smooth and easy with good results.

Result: Excellent.

This software can rotate or flip your video (not many software converters can).
According to my notes on previous version, this software can rip the video from my LG video recorder VOB files from the burned DVD (not many software converters can). It can also do fast joins of videos.

I have done these giveaways before, so I understand the procedure.....
in this case, I received popups that said it was activated, that said it was unzipped, etc. but when I got to that point, it would not install, so that I could register it. I have several screenshots to demonstrate the steps and problems. where can I show you the screenshots?
thank you.
