Please read this guide if you are not sure how to register the software.
Step 1. Download Zip package from GOTD.
Step 2. Unzip the Package and run setup.exe to install it.
Step 3. Click "Get Free Registration Code" button to visit the registration page, where input your username and email address to receive the registration code for free.
Step 4. Back to the software interface, paste email address and received registration code under “User name” and “Registration code” separately to register it successfully.
Note: Check Junk or Spam email if you can't find the free registration code.

Aiseesoft studio, After installing, I never got the popup button, "Get Free Registration Code". Just a box showing comparisons between registered and unregistered versions along with a Registration button. That button brought up the box to put in my email and the activation code. There was no place in the process that would take me to a Registration page to leave an email so that I could receive the code. I wrote to support earlier today and never heard back from them. I uninstalled and then went through the process again with exactly the same results. The actual url to the registration page should be listed here or in the readme file as it doesn't come up as it should during or after installation.

Registration went smoothly... one surprise after it registered... it requires iTunes to work and won't do anything until you install iTunes. That's downloading now, so we'll see how it goes once that's done...

Finally everything is installed, iPad finally recognized, PodCasts copied from iPad memory to my PC.
Typically awkward Apple file management, it just dumped 129 files into one folder with no opportunity to sort or organize into folders by PodCast, but that's not this program's fault. Apple just never seemed to figure out how to let users manage files. After spending a wonderful half hour flipping back and forth between the iTunes library listing that showed each PodCast with its icon so I could tell which series it belonged to, and my Windows file manager which only showed the specific title of each PodCast all jumbled into the one folder, I was able to sort them all out into their respective series.
Sadly, even with iTunes installed on my PC, I still can't seem to make it download each series into its own folder.. in its wisdom, Apple wants to just download everything into one place. But at least maybe I can eliminate the iPad step now.
Bottom line, Aiseesoft FoneTrans 9.0.12 does a good job of helping make Apple devices accessible to PCs.

Does it transfer ebooks (iBooks) from an iPad or iPhone to a computer?

Norm, Aiseesoft FoneTrans 9.0.12 worked well transferring PodCasts from my iPad 4 to my PC.
As I noted in my comment, the Apple file management is abysmal, but that's not FoneTrans' fault.
I would expect it to transfer ebooks at least as well.
