I successfuly downloaded and installed the programme but when I tried several times to restart it and activate nothing was happening! So I abandoned the offer. Any clues?

Simon Sagala-Mulindwa,

Did you tried Comment #15

Thanks about the GOTD! :)

The program could be installed, but didn't startup. Did try to install with different options, like an Uninstaller/Installer, Admin rights. Non did work, the program just wouldn't startup.

Did some checking and found that DEP was active.

The program was prevented from starting up by the Data Execution Prevention DEP.

DEP settings where:
Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those select:

Open File Explorer, right click This PC, click Properties, click Advanced System Settings, at Advanced click at performance Settings, click Data Execution Prevention DEP, click Add.
Go to Program Files (x86) and click Advanced Password Recovery Suite, choose aprs.exe, click Open.
Now it should be added to the list at DEP.

:)

PS: Have a happy work week & weekend & stay healthy! :)

Installed fine, tried to open and it stated to enable aero. I did (not wanting to just for 1 program to run). Tried to open after and nothing... not even in task manager. Tried to open again with admin rights, nothing.... restarted pc, retried both ways and nothing. Uninstalled and re deactivaterd aero. No thanks to a software that won't run.

To even consider installing such a utility to my PC, the vendor would have to have a global and trusted name because otherwise I would be concerned about the potential underlying use that could be gained.

The fact that it is essentially a local hacking utility and with the ability to supposedly reveal any passwords from widely used applications and inbuilt windows facilities with such ease does open your eyes to just how easy it seems to crack passwords and how little the likes of Microsoft, Google etc are really doing to encrypt passwords to a trusted level of security.

I also note that though the description states 1500 pieces of software, there is no list of what they are, which should be a key factor in marketing the strength and breadth of your product.

The only way that I would consider using such a utility would be if it was portable and required a very strong password to access it from a bootable source.

So it's a no from me and I do not think that such products should be promoted.

There are easy ways to store your passwords away from your tech and without having to make it easily and obviously accessible to others.

Reply   |   Comment by PhilS  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+26)

PhilS, this product is intended to recover your own passwords and keys. Also it requires administrator privileges which prevents it from using by anyone or a guest user for most of the cases. Anyway, even I am the only user to my own computer, there are many accounts for FTP, MAIL, SOFTWARE KEYS which I can't even remember. From my point of view this is an essential piece of software for people like me.
And about a local hacking tool as you have said, trust me if someone has a local access to your computer there are millions of ways to abuse that.

Reply   |   Comment by PC Trek  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

No, [ PhilS ],

Logins, passwords, and license numbers are not precious.

Everyone can see them, Microsoft, Google, Apple, your ISP, someone in a car outside your window sniffing your WiFi, and especially at the other end where employees, hackers, and crackers dump millions of access information daily.

Just unplug your router when you run any program that you think risks leaking stuff you don't want to leak.

Better yet, we can actually write stuff down with pen on paper so we never need to hunt for something we should have written down in the first place.

However, programs like this help me support other folks who do not write stuff down, so I can then make a printed list for them.

I tried a few of the options. The FTP crashes each time. Is there a log file for debugging?

Reply   |   Comment by Mark Shultise  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Mark Shultise, could you please tell us what FTP clients are you using? The crash might be because of incorrect file format. In most cases it might report some error details in a message box, but if something else causes the crashing we need to know more details

Reply   |   Comment by PC Trek  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

PC Trek, It appears to be FileZilla. I was able to use my cellphone to record my PC screen as it displayed the items and instantly crashed. IT may have gone to a second file somewhere but it definately wa shsowing Filezilla data on the screen when it crashed. Filezilla version was 3.48.0 on a Win7 box. TheSItemanager.XML file shows

<?xml version="1.0"?>

etc...

At first I thought it was an issue with the last server which was an anonymous connection, but I removed that entry and it still crashes immediately after showing a screen of logins. I don't have time to do much with it now. I'll try playing wit the file later. I'll open a ticket with the results.

USER, thank you for this. There might be cases where this could work. on some systems. Anyway at my system Data Execution Prevention DEP is on and it doesn't prevent Advances Password Recovery Suite from running even it's not in the list.

Registration process is CRAZY!

I entered my email, it says "'already used' - that was 4 years ago!
Entered another email, got an email asking to confirm email. wehn I clicked that, it says : "Wrong confirmation code or already confirmed!"

What is going on?!

Reply   |   Comment by jason  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+8)

jason, well it seems you might have clicked the same link twice. So it was already confirmed. You could proceed with the activation process using that email address.

Reply   |   Comment by paul  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

paul, if you have confirmed the message then you are almost done with the activation process. Please read the instructions provided by GOTD. All it requires are few mouse clicks.

Reply   |   Comment by PC Trek  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

paul,
It is confusing. Finally, I figured it out.
After the 'wrong' and 'confusing' email confirmation message, you have to go into the program AGAIN and click Register, and enter email AGAIN. Now it will register online.

They do not send a code, you have to register from within the program by doing things AGAIN. Thats why is is STYRANGE and confusing.

The SW developer could have made life easier for everyone by at least explaining the TWISTED DUPLICATE process better in the program description.

jason, Thanks. I got it at last. I'm so torqued at the bizarre routine that I've yet to even try the program but it's there for later.

It appears not to support 64-bit Firefox, so I guess my passwords are safe from snooping...

Wait, I use Lastpass anyway, never mind. Storing passwords in your browser is foolishness! Very insecure and dangerous as you can see by this (any many other) software's ability to "recover" them for you.

Reply   |   Comment by FeMaster  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

TK, you are correct. If you don't have that "Master" password set, anybody with access to your browser could snoop on those passwords without the need for any kind of software at all.

Either way, I don't use the browser to store my passwords, just too insecure in general. A password manager is the way to go. There are many out there, paid and free, and each with it's own unique twists.

Leo, we don't send activation code with this version, just a message with a link to confirm the email. Please make sure you have typed your email correctly or try again with another email.

Reply   |   Comment by PC Trek  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

No code sent either after entering email and clicking link. Clicking link a second time now says, "Wrong confirmation code or already confirmed!". Which is an email address it accepted and one i have never used.

Reply   |   Comment by Joe  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-18)

Joe, browsers passwords are hashed to the computer, so basically if you use portable browsers and move them to another computer its impossible to recover any username or passwords

Does not recover passwords from Edge, IE, Vivaldi and FileZilla.
OK for Chrome and Brave.

Reply   |   Comment by milsabords  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

milsabords, actually, it does recover passwords from Edge Legacy, IE, Vivalvi and FileZilla. Only the newly released Edge based on Chromium is not included, but I am assuring you it will be included within the next version very soon and all GOTD users would be able to update our software for free when we release that version.

Reply   |   Comment by PC Trek  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

TK, yes you can. But if the windows account doesn't have a login password you won't be able to see those credentials. With this tool you can do that.
