I'm interested in finding a calculator that can add minutes and seconds -- for instance adding play time of songs to get total of min. and sec. on a disc or in a folder. Had a great freeware app that did that simply and elegantly but lost when my drive was wiped and can't find it again via Google or any other source.

Any help would be most appreciated...

A PARTIAL CONGRATULATION (BUT STILL INCORRECT RESULTS)

I have not had time to thoroughly check this version out, but at least one bug that I pointed out last time still remains. First, I recognize a correction from last time.

The last time this program was offered, I pointed out how the Difference Tab calculation results (Difference integrated value) were wrong when the From and To dates go over one month apart. The program starts out with the From and To values set to the current time. Using the exact day number but one month ahead calculated correctly, but if the To day number was advanced by one more day, suddenly the hours and minutes values were off by (13 hours and 30 minutes). The resultant difference was 1 Months 1 Days 17 Hours 30 Minutes. Since the hour and minute values were the same in the From and To values, the result hours and minutes should both have been zero. You defended the method of calculation:
>So, how many days in "1 Month" (a common concept) do you think?
>28 days?
>29 days?
>30 days?
>31 days?
>Our algorithm considered the average for all months in Christian era.
>Not so simple as you think.

I responded that it was not difficult either, and explained that I have done the same programming over the years, and made sure I got correct results.

Well, today the program seems to have solved that problem. Thanks for correcting that bug. Thanks, and a Partial Congratulations.

Also, another user pointed out that starting out with matching From and To values, then changing either the hours, minutes, or seconds in the To field, that the program did not come up with -1 hour, or -1 minute, or -1 second, but instead came up with:
-1 Years 1 Months 1 Weeks 1 Days 1 Hours (when changing the hours value)
-1 Years 1 Months 1 Weeks 1 Days 1 Hours 1 Minutes 1 Seconds (when changing the seconds value)

You promised to correct that problem and you have. Thanks again; again a Partial Congratulation.

I say partial because last time I pointed out another incorrect calculation that is still in the program. Here is my exact description I posted last time, and the results are still the same:

Try this in this program: From July 10, 2016 15:30:00 to August 11, 19:30:00. This program shows 1 Months 1 Days 17 Hours 30 Minutes. I have no problem with the 1 Month and 1 Day part of the result, but the start and end times both have the same 30 minutes, so the result minutes should be zero; why does it come up with 30 minutes in the result? I am also curious about how it comes up with 17 hours difference from the 15 hundred hours to 19 hundred hours. That should only be a 4 hour difference.

I am surprised that today (February 9, 2017), I still get the same exact but incorrect results.

Since the other defective result examples were corrected, I am surprised that this one still exists. Can you please correct that bug?

There is no reason this program cannot be made to produce accurate results, the same as similar utilities, and timeanddate.com does.

But how do you consider Feb 05, 2017 to Mar 03, 2098?

So, we must use the standard algorithm For [Years] And [Months].
That is why you will see the "error" result.

This time I give you a hint how to solve this but first Let me explain how ADTC comes up with wrong results

And that is the fault right there. You can't explain that you do not use accurate methods of calculating results, then use it to defend the program is not wrong.

The online help page shows that you do the simple math method by using an average for days in a month (30.4375) and a year (365.25) instead of using an entirely different method as similar tools do, including timeanddate.com. Using the average results in an inaccurate answer.

No, I do not. You actually calculate correct results for these two dates. I did not even mention this type of calculation; in the example you mention, Mar 3 is less than one month from the starting date. Your calculations are correct when the two dates are less than a month apart, because you are not using your "average" values. Change the end date to Mar 4, 5, 6, or 7 and you still calculate accurate results, but change it to Mar 8, and you come up with 1 month 13 hours 30 minutes. The error is caused when the From date and To date is for some period of days more than a month.

No other tool calculates inaccurate results like your program does. Using average values for number of days in a month and average number of days in a year are only for approximate calculations. You have users thinking that your product is "accurate" partially due to you not explaining that the results are approximate at best, instead of simply taking the time to calculate accurate results.

If you will take the time to do it right, no one can complain that the results are incorrect. Think about it; you are on version 7.0 and you still have not learned how to calculate the difference between two dates accurately. If I were discussing using the "average" values for calculations with other programmers back before you introduced ADTC, no one would have predicted a program would come out based on using the "average" values, and certainly no one would have predicted it would have got past version 0.x Beta, much less version 1.0, and in no way would anyone predict that it would reach version 7.0 and still be using the "average" values to "pretend to" produce accurate results.

Because the dates are a number of years different does not mean you have to use an average to get your results. With the same exact starting and ending times, I consider the result to have zero for hours and minutes. Advanced Date Time Calculator comes up with 81 years 3 weeks 4 days 18 hours. The hours should be zero when the start and end original times are identical.

Timeanddate.com gives the option of including the end date in the results. Since you do not offer this option, your results never match timeanddate.com with or without the ending date included.

I see the "error" result only in your program. The others get it right.

I mentioned in a previous giveaway that I had to develop software for these same calculations many years ago, and the results had to be accurate of course. I was able to do it, other similar tools have been able to do it, and we have the timeanddate duration tool at https://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html that calculates correct results that anyone can easily check to compare. If every other tool is calculating accurate results, why do you remain defensive in your method of calculation? You should appreciate someone pointing out the flaw, realize you went about solving the problem the wrong way, and fix it.

I am confident that you would rather produce 100% accurate results, and I believe at some point in the future you will figure out how to do it.

The solution to the problem is way simpler than you might think, and it has been solved for centuries. In the last offering, I thought about giving you a hint, but decided not to, hoping you would get it right by next time. This time I thought about giving you another hint, but have not, ... until now, so here it is. Calculate the time differences accurately, and see if the difference makes your number of days difference increase by one. You have to go back to the beginning of all dates, on a Sunday, on January 1st, and start from there. Once you can calculate the days accurately, you will have it made.

I've been using the software over the past year - its good enough that I bought a lifetime license. My usage? - I use it to keep track of prescription refills. Haven't missed one since I've started using this software. The program is simple to use, is lightweight on resources, and its accurate.

If you have a need, this is the program to get.

Try the Difference Tab with same times but for the From, go back one month to the same day number. Look at the Difference (integrated) results value for the hours and minutes. They are way off. I am hoping a future version gets this fixed so it will be accurate.

Be warned. The installation overwrites the previous installed version. I had version 4, bld 052 from a previous GAOTD and wanted to compare them, but the version 7 installation just installs where it wants to, without giving you an opportunity to select a location.

The advanced date time calculator by TriSun software allows you to install it to any specific folder that you wish; and name that folder whatever way you like. This is confirmed because I did that.
I uninstall the old version before installing the new version.

Note that Kalle said that it could be done in Excel for free. I think he realizes the program itself is not free but since most PC's already have Excel on them you don't have to spend the $19.95 to get the date functionality.

Although not mentioned in the description this program is useful for those people who are active in family history as the download on my computer has shown that it is capable of going backwards as well as forwards.
For family history use a useful function would be a displayed day of the week box for dates in the past. You can call a calendar up and see it but an extra box would be better.
This would then open up a new avenue to the owner for sales.

For the family history folks and others, has anyone tested to see if there are any glitches when calculating back past October 1582 (in Europe, or 1752 in the US, or other dates in some other regions: the changeover from the Julian calendar to Gregorian)?

For the astronomers and folks with *really* complete genealogies

These days, if a software offered here is utter junk I don't even bother downloading nor leaving a comment, BUT, if the software offered is truly worth of a mention, then I will. The software offered here today is one of those offerings that is truly worthy of a mention and a download. Over the years I have found it to be a wonderful piece of software that does so many things with dates, and the time between dates. Even though you may think you will never need it, you are wrong - you will!! Thank you TriSun and GOTD for this offering today.

pw, Not better, but good enough for most use (add and substract hours or days, calculate dates or number of days, etc. from 2 dates). Not as powerfull, but free, portable and qui nice if you need what it can do :)
