After my 5th failed attempt to enter the verification code on their Adoreshare page I decided to pass on this one. Just rediculous.

Easy to register by following the instructions in the Readme file. I needed exactly this kind of program for editing some very old home movies -- nothing fancy, just basic cut editing. Thanks very much, GAOTD and Adoreshare!

I have downloaded, installed and activated this Quick Video Cutter (Adoreshare) giveaway by GOTD.
I have not experienced any difficulty downloading, installing and activating this software.
It was quick and easy.
In addition, I have TESTED this software.
Result: Excellent.
I used a sample MKV video to test.
After reading some comments, my observation is as follows:
• there is a lot of Mis-Information. A.K.A. Fake News about this software.
• the fake news (is it commenters hired by software competitor companies?) try to kill user interest in this giveaway.
• you CAN specify a preferred folder to send your cut video to.
• the software remembers your settings
• you CAN choose by using the two sliders, to begin cut and end cut at any 2 points within the video.
• the Captcha math is simple arithmetic and even a young child can handle that.
• the key is sent via email almost instantly to you.
• the software works Very Fast. (it claims no re-encoding). Almost instantaneous for the short clip I tested.
• Completed the test by viewing the resulting cut video portion - no loss in video quality.
• apparently this cutter handles many video formats, as claimed. I only tested 1. But it seems credible.
• It does not seem to allow you to choose a name for the resulting cut video. If your video was named "ABC tour to XYZ nation" then the resulting cut video will automatically be named "ABC tour to XYZ nation_Adoreshare"
If you cut another different portion from the same source video, it will automatically be named "ABC tour to XYZ nation_Adoreshare1".

The Fake News nowadays, not only affect US presidential elections, they even extend to mundane events like software giveaways.

Ran tests on a variety of files and whilst the functionality is simplistic in ability, it really does do a great and almost immediate job.

No support for HEVC though. It goes through the motions but outputs a 0k file.

There is promise in this application but needs improvement in the way that it displays available folder that is rather old fashioned and if possible, add some newer formats.

It's a keeper for me though and for an every day quick and dirty splitter, for what it does, it does it better than anything that I have used before, so thumbs up in general.

It's misleading to say that this program removes unwanted content. If it did then you'd be able to select a part of the video in the middle and the when removed the two ends of the video would join to create a video with the unwanted video missing. However if the unwanted content is at the end or start of the video then it can be removed.
It would be nice if you could remove adverts from the middle of recorded TV program but not with this program.

I do like the way that it is simple to use and that there is no video loss (I have not tested for video loss yet).
The problem I have is in finding exactly where to cut the video The slider needs to have a longer movement.

If you want to create a short video from a large number of sources then rather than load the video editor with a lot of video files you could prepare what video bits you needed before hand by cutting the bits you need from each video then loading the video bits into your video editor.

This program is missing all the necessary tools to be useful.
-fix small window
-no button for rewind/advance a few frames (1sec, 5sec, user choice)
-unable to split many sequences of the original file
PS It's not necessary to indicate Strictly non-commercial usage, no serious user will want to use a program like this one.

In addition the registering process is awful.

The direct cut without conversion is the way to go for the many format of videos today. It save time and maintain the original video quality and ratio to get the portion of what we desired.

However, there is a need to improve on the following 2 points. (1) This application lack the "start" and "end" to make the cut precise. (2) It also lack the drag and drop features.

Wow, that was a trip way back!

Software loaded, but had the distinct flavor of Win95 in its operation. The Open dialog didn't see my network shares forcing me to move a video file local to the test computer.

Sadly, you have to work within a postage stamp environment as the program is unable to go full screen, so making a precision cut is almost impossible. In the end, the program wouldn't cut out a piece from a movie. All I got was zero length files in return. Some say it does work, and the help file says it'll work with the MP4 container, however, it may not support certain codecs within said MP4. Who knew!

So one can only conclude, this may be just another way to get email addresses for the spam world, because there certainly isn't much to this program!!

Suggestions: Make program window resizeable, add installation options on whether to create a desktop or Start menu shortcut. Allow finer controls for trim locations, make default save location the user's Videos folder rather than the Cutfile folder.
As others mentioned, my captcha was hard to read (red on green, looked very much like Christmas) so hard to see, math was 20+5=?.
I browse as a standard user; installed as standard user providing Admin credentials. The installation allows you to choose where to install (or maybe it only shows where; did not try to change the location) but that is the only option
After installing, allowed it to open immediately. The program window is a fixed size, roughly 800x600, and can only be minimized or closed. There is only one option in Settings; the location of the saved file.
cann
The preview window showed only gray and did not show the video that was playing. Closed the program, found that on installing, program does not add a shortcut to either the desktop or Start Menu (Windows 10 + Classic Shell). Found the program and created shortcut manually, reopened the program. Program requires Admin privilege to run because the default save location is in a folder called Cutfile with the Program Files (x86) folder. Bad, unsecure, and ancient coding technique.
This time the preview window showed the video. I trimmed a video at both ends, did not see any degradation in quality. The program renames the saved video to "video title_Adoreshare". It also added this to the video title that was part of the video (that played during the first few seconds of the video).
I took the previously cut video and cut some more from it. Title of the second cut video was now "video title_Adoreshare_Adoreshare". Original video was about 13mb and 31 seconds. Final video after two cuts was around 6~7mb and 18 seconds and I did not notice degradation.
Keeping because it is simple and quick and does what it says.

If it helps, & FWIW...
Video can be encoded 1 of 2 ways: either it has all complete frames, each one a complete image, or it can use key frames, with a limited number of complete frames, and with the majority of frames recording the difference or changes in a given frame vs. the previous video frame. The 1st type of video is better for editing, but means often huge files, along with hardware [like cameras] that can record that volume of data.

To edit video that does not use all complete frames, software must generate a complete frame for every partial frame recorded, the same as a video player. You have to be careful -- some software can be prone to randomly skip or drop frames in some formats [e.g. AVC], causing audio sync problems. The audio that goes with that video should be in the wav [or wav64 or waveformatex] format -- many editing apps convert it to wav internally -- so that it can be cut &/or joined at the same exact places you cut &/or join the video.

That all said, the way that video editing normally works, is that when you're done, the video [& audio] is re--encoded, and since most all encoding is Not lossless, that means a loss of quality that's unavoidable. There is a special type of software that tries to avoid that quality loss however, cutting &/or joining the original audio & video without re-encoding it, & that's where Adoreshare Quick Video Cutter fits in. The downside to this type of software is that *Try* is very much the operative word.

This sort of lossless editing is great when it works, but it can be finicky, with software often only accepting certain formats, sometimes even requiring that a specific encoder, &/or specific encoder settings be used with the original video. And then it can still be iffy -- one version of Vegas Pro worked this way with mpg2, but with later versions it was broken & I think eventually dropped, and a few years back I tried it with Nero & AVC, with a less than 50% success rate. Most often these apps will only cut &/or join the video at a keyframe, & those can be several seconds, or even several minutes apart, depending on how the original video is encoded.

Adoreshare is ambitious with their Quick Video Cutter, not restricting video or audio formats like every other similar editor I've seen, and if your editing project will work with simple, somewhat imprecise cuts rather than transitions like scene fades, it could be worth a shot, giving it a try. Since this sort of editing is usually pretty quick, as video's copied to a new file vs/ re-encoding, trying it shouldn't take much time -- just realize that this sort of editing may or may not work, & be prepared to do it the conventional way.

walt,

I think I may have had that one too at one point.

The list I added is mainly focused on split and or join which I guess is why I didn't list many others. Plus I have used all of the above at some point. These days I have 2 full video editing suites I purchased last year so I have little to no need for these type programs realistically.

Nice addition though with additionally functionality.

Kind of sad Tomatosoft is no longer as it was one of the quickest and simplest I've used.

Thank you sir.

Tweak,

There have been a few of these that were free and do an O.K. job, so long as you don't mind being limited to cutting on keyframes. (That is to say, generally close but with non-precise cut points.) These are going to be much easier for neophytes to actually pick up and start using than the full-fledged video editors. Another one is the no-longer around (or maybe it's just no-longer free ?) early version of Free Video Editor, which you can find links for in threads on the excellent site VideoHelp.Com. I've used that one and others, always looking for more -- because some programs handle some video file formats that others don't, or handle them better -- but the one I've kept coming back to do for quick, basic jobs is Machete, which is not free. (There has been a "Lite" version of it that was free.) It handles a lot of file formats, though I don't think that MPEG2 was one of them. I think the other one I mentioned did handle MPEG. Eventually, I'm going to have to gain some traction with the more capable, "serious" editors, but every time I delve into the video timelines, complex jobs, and non-intuitive controls, I tend to just go "Ugh !" and retreat back to what seems straightforward -- even with its clear limitations.

Thanks for the additions though, love having so many choices!

I have to say I was skeptical when a video cutter promises "no re encoding" but sure enough, this one does as promised. Rocket fast too. Took seconds to trim a 44 minute video down to 20.

The only downside is that the video only occupies about a quarter of the display area. And this was a 1080P mp4. Not a huge issue, but something to look into.

Thumbs down...I could only get the slider to cut out a portion of the beginning or end of the video and it was very difficult to position the slider at the exact point needed to edit...other programs like this allow you to fine tune the edit points and make multiple cuts before saving...Uninstalled.

Trims my webm, mp4 and mp3 files but unfortunately save mov and 3gp formats in zero byte (= empty) files. For lossless cutting mp3´s I use mp3DirectCut (free, written by Martin Pesch). With some polishing Quick Video Cutter would be a fine tool for the video enthusiast.

Installed without issues:

Feedback:

1) No drag and drop
2) When openining you don't get the standard windows 10 browsing options. You get my computer and your local home folder. Means it takes longer to find if you put it on the desktop (which it should have been drag and drop)
3) The video it shows oddly is small...doesn't fill up the screen and auto plays (why?)
4) You can only drag the slider to set the times. No manual ability to type in the "between" times where the numbers are..frustrating if you have a long video file.

I did find cutting and creating a new version at least from an mp4 was super quick once you clicked cut.

This kinda needs a few improvements.

Hopefully "It's just me" but I found the program impossible to use. No drag and drop but finally got it to load a file then no "play" function...could only manually advance a tab. could not get the tabs to work to cut out a bit in the middle of the video...seemed to want to work only at the start of a clip?..... maybe the end as well, I didn't get that far.

also seemed to save a file when I wanted to make another cut.

Not intuitive for someone who wanted a back up for avidemux that does work intuitively.

Please advise.

blu,
The readme.txt has a website; open that up. Put in your personal email at the website.

In a few minutes, you will get an email that contains an email address to use for registering the program, along with a key code.

As ever, the eternal video cutter question: is this frame accurate (see posts passim for why this matters)? I suspect not, because the product website makes no mention that I can see of frame accuracy, and products that do have it normally make a play of it because it is so important.

Except for complex math captcha registration process is quite easy. It displays videos in the bottom left corner as a small picture, but it does cut them.
