First time I've felt compelled to comment. This is very good. For someone with many similar named files it really makes it easy to see how your work is progressing. Many thanks

105... If there's an equalizer, it's well hidden. Where do you find it?

120... Quintessential Media Player is what I normally use. It has an EQ. Most media I've tried have one.

Well, I am pissed...I dl this program at work yesterday but didn't get to try it at that time. Today I have it up and running and this is great...Everything I need to know on one page.
Now the reason I am pissed is I forgot to dl on my home computer and this is what I really needed at home. As I have 4 hard drives plus all types of media, graphics, music, etc.
Hopefully this will come around again....great program.

Thanks so much
Maria

Thank you Crabby Gabby, Big Thunder1 and Anon for your suggestions and help. When I get my confidence back, I'll try them. I have an e-machine that didn't come with an XP install disk. It only came with a recovery disk that wipes the hard drive and reinstalls factory programs and settings. I was stuck on stupid yesterday, but finally figured out how to post to forums. Again, thank you!

Nice program. Most everybody needs a dual-window file manager. And it is good to have more than one, for comparison, for mixed features, variety.

Total Commander seems to be a type of shareware that keeps running, so it is excellent to try. Very workable with many plug-ins available (including a (pdf) filter that might be worth checking out for the person discussing Foxit and Adobe above). Hhas been my main file manager for some years. explorer2 lite and salamander are decent freeware, good but not super-special, I keep them on the side. DOpus is very popular among the techie-set, but is not cheap.

Accelman is definitely a viable candidate in the shareware/purchase realm where the programs are uneven. So having it installed for free is nice. And there is no rush to upgrade to new versions with file managers.

All in all an excellent choice by GAOTD.

Steven Avery

(doesn't seem to be posting so I'm going to try to break it up into chunks)
92 -> You need to use the recovery console, which is on your Windows XP install disk. First, copy the files you want to replace those DLLs with into the system32 folder and call them kernel32.dll_new, wsock32.dll_new, just anything that doesn't exist in the folder that you can remember. Remember the names of the current DLLs and the ones you're going to replace them with(the ones I just told you to put in the system32 directory). 92 -> You need to use the recovery console, which is on your Windows XP install disk.

First, copy the files you want to replace those DLLs with into the system32 folder and

call them kernel32.dll_new, wsock32.dll_new, just anything that doesn't exist in the

folder that you can remember. Remember the names of the current DLLs and the ones

you're going to replace them with(the ones I just told you to put in the system32

directory). Put the XP cd in your drive and restart your computer. If it starts XP

normally, restart again and hit one of the F keys, F2 or F12 or F8. You should get a

screen that lets you change some options around. Look for something like "IDE boot

order," or "boot order" or something. When you find it, it should have a list like:

"floppy drive," "hard drive," "CD drive". Make sure CD drive is above the hard drive

and hit OK and save all of your settings in the screen, your computer should restart

again once you do. On the XP CD, use the recovery console... Login(just use no

password if you don't know it, that's the default) and enter these commands in, use

enter after you type a command in to have the prompt do it, and don't enter the stuff

in parentheses since that's me commenting:

cd windows (don't worry if this gives you an error)
cd system32
ren kernel32.dll kernel32.dll_bck (start worrying if these next ones do)
ren wsock32.dll wsock32.dll_bck
copy kernel32.dll_new kernel32.dll
copy wsock32.dll_new wsock32.dll
exit

Now take the XP CD out and see if your computer still works.
If it does, you're done.
If your computer broke, go back to the recovery console and enter these:

cd windows
cd system32
del kernel32.dll
del wsock32.dll
ren kernel32.dll_bck kernel32.dll
ren wsock32.dll_bck wsock32.dll
exit

Assuming you've entered them right and I've written them right, that should restore

your stuff back to normal.

If not, I hope you can use a command prompt and have some spare PCs around that you

can use to get system DLLs from(download or copy the ones on the PC).

You can also install the recovery console: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654

Can view MS formats as well as save in either default .odf format or MS's .doc, .rtf, and .txt formats as well as do spread-sheets, data-base, and presentations. Layout is very similar to MS office so learning curve is not an issue. Get it here http://www.openoffice.org/index.html . Enjoy! :)

@ #92_penroze I downloaded the new .dlls from the internet and tried to paste them into the windows/system32 file but got an error box that said the files were system files in use I could not replace them. Can someone help? With corrupted kernel32.dll and wsock32.dll files I can't get my router to assign an IP address and my computer will not access my wireless lynksys router. I'm sorry to post here, but if anyone can help I sure would appreciate it.

Your option is to use a little app called 'Unlocker' http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/#download . Scroll down the page to just below the graph for the dwnld link. (Pics explain all.) Install, right-click file(s) and choose 'Unlocker' from the context menu. In the pop-up dialog box click 'Unlock All'. This will un-hook them from the system allowing you to copy/overwrite them without error. Hope that works for ya. If not then you'll have to replace them through the 'DOS prompt' so the OS is not loaded and in use, ..."NOT the DOS shell or command prompt". Those are system files in use when Windows is loaded, and are hooked into explorer etc.. You'll have to go to a DOS prompt and install them. Then re-boot into the Win OS. One of those two options should work allowing you to replace those files.

Good luck.

Did you try System Restore? You might try a search for "turn off system file checker" on Google, etc.. I've seen this information somewhere before, but don't remember where. You have to edit the registry, I think. I have a link from my bookmarks to a site that might help you for free, but I haven't actually tried it before:

Certainly a feature rich application, and while I am impressed, I am also a little disappointed with a few things.....

Image viewer does not support the newer Paint Shop Pro image format (.pspimage), which is 70% or more of my graphics.

Can't view PDF files unless I install adobe's slower than frozen syrup pdf reader. (I use Foxit Reader 2.0...... much, much, much faster)

Folder view, when set to Large Icons looks horrible. It's not reading my custom icons. And even worse, since I have my icons set to 72x72, the top, bottom, and sides get chopped off.

Can't view office documents because I use OpenOffice.

Media Player lacks an equalizer for tweaking the sound.

Floating trash bin.... graphics are a bit cheesy with the jagged edges when setting on any background other than white. Looks like a bad cut, and paste job.

Other that, I think I will try it for a while.... ;)

For those of you who don't know much about this kind of program, I offer this link for comparison with similar programs:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_file_managers

(I don't know why this particular program wasn't listed.) These programs try to make file operations easier than they are with the one that comes with your operating system--EXPLORER, in WINDOWS. If you don't do a lot of file manipulation etc., you don't really need this. However, it seemed to me to be a well-made program compared to many of the others that I have tried over the years. If you try it out, just be careful since it is a very powerful program and you could ruin some files.

Thanks Flexigensoft Labs and GAOTD.

Note: They also have some freeware offerings on their site!

Tried Accelman on three computers, or should I say "tried to try".
It didn't work on any of them.
I've read some of the other posts, I'd guess it works ok for most of them.
Slow startup: how long am I supposed to wait?
Blazing fast: I'd like to know the setup this dudes using.
It starts accessing all folders and networked drives: It should let me choose a startup mode.
Accelman window never popped up so I can't really say whay it was trying to do.
I'll have to start it up, then go take a shower, then see if it has time to start and after that, then ill uninstall it, if nothing happens.

Just a couple heads-up on this one. The setup file is not an .exe but an .msi file which likely means it uses Install Shield for uninstall rather than pack it's own uninstaller. The would mean using Add/Remove programs for an uninstall. Windows Add/Remove usually doesn't uninstall cleanly.

What's worse is the installer does not let you choose a directory to install the program into, imagine it installs to C:\ drive by default but the installer gave no information as to where it would install the program. I like to keep my operating system alone on C drive and so always install apps to separate drives.

But the installer did not allow this so aborted the installation. Am now off to use a registry cleaner to get the registry entries out as I followed directions and activated before installing, meaning there's now dead registry entries.

Good morning everyone! ;)

I had no problems with activation and installation - and it really does leave Frigate dead in the ground.

I constantly move files around (to my husband's chagrin,) and this will make it easier and safer to accomplish.

I spent some time reallocating shortcut keys and my center mouse button, which was a breeze and a VERY handy feature! Center mouse button can be differently configured for each feature of Accelman.

You can reconfigure existing toolbars, add new ones and move them around for personal preference. Also a very handy feature.

I won't be using this program for its video or audio potential, as I use programs that I love for those. This will simply be (I hope,) my replacement file manager.

One problem: The program stalled when I was attempting to switch from one program (within Accelman) to another and generated a bug report to the company.

I wonder if I'll hear from them :) :)

I'll keep playing around with it as long as no more bugs are found. Their other products look interesting also - and it would be great for us to be able to examine those also.

I recommend every company that comes through GOTD (that I personally like and trust,) to my friends - they trust me, rather than having to test it out themselves first - lazy lot! :):)

I can't blame them, most of them are very new to even downloading anything, let alone testing software, so I explain various things to them, hoping that they'll eventually come to GOTD themselves and feel adept at making personal decisions and downloading software that catches their eye.

Thank you to Flexigen Labs for climbing on board with GOTD, most of us appreciate you being here and hope you stay with us! ;)

Thanks again GOTD for the opportunity to always try various software and software houses for that matter. It goes a long way to making informed decisions about which software houses to use and which to avoid.

GOTD - if there's any chance in the future, many of us would enjoy testing out the various kinds of software used in offices. I don't work in an office myself - but I have friends who always ask me if I've come across any great office software.

They have all indicated that if it's a good product, they would be happy to suggest it to their bosses, and/or use it personally on their home systems.

Have a wonderful sunny day everyone! ;)

Looked so promising at first, I imagined Powerdesk and ACDSee combined but the reality was so different... Who wants to read Hexidecimal? Why so cluttered and confusing with the menus? Why so difficult to do the simplest thing? I had to give up...and delete it! This is exactly what software should not be, we want clear simple options that then offer more elaborate and specific choices. This felt like jumping in at the deep end, the learning curve is far to steep. It may be good but its just too difficult to remember tthe fiddly mouse jestures, keyboard requests etc. I felt totally lost using it and totally lost on my own PC. A file manager is not meant to make you feel confused, quite the opposite. I suggest that this company rethink the user interface and do a major overhaul, they are too bsuy trying to offer every option and have not realised that this has confused their product. This was supposed to be an Explorer replacement with enhanced capability, instead it is a angry confused bull in a china shop that has no idea of what is required of it.
P.S. We would like a swan on a lake.
I hope this is constructive.
Keep up the good work GOTD.

I have to say that after downloading and installing the software, it looks like it was a waste of time - there are many other alternatives out there, and when I need to do something, going through My Computer or Windows Explorer will probably be quicker than going through AccelMan. I'd rate this a "2".

Note to yaknow (#69) It does start slow. But once it starts it quite fast accessing all directories and files including those on a LAN where (for me anyway) both Windows Explorer and A43 are very slow.

But boy this is sure a complicated and involved explorer. I love it but I wouldn't recommend it to a Windows newbie, or even an experienced but casual user. You gotta be a propellerhead to like this.
