Is there an update to the installation problem for previous users.....I too hadd teh previous version you gave away.....however, now it won't even bring up the program after showing me a welcome screen telling me I am running a trial version, afterwhich it only closes after I click the only option of EXIT. Tried restarting entire machine, also doesn't help.....waiting patiently for your update....thanks much and happy new year to all....

I missed the bus by only activating the program after downloading expired.
So am working with the 21 day trial version.
Very impressed. I could record from a site where video downloads are blocked. Produces a good quality video file and is ideal for tutorials that you want to keep for reference.
I hope the program comes up as a giveaway again so I can get the unlimited version.

Hi - I would like to see this family of products dominate the market as these people are good. I did not get the giveaways of the day because I purchase one product (and then the whole set) some time ago. Guys work on the 64 bit thing. Work on stuff with Apple and MS as I use both. Work on a broadcast suite. Best to you all and Happy New Year!

I've successfully installed and activated the software in Win7 64-bit *after* uninstalling the previous version (also from GOTD), deleting the leftover "C:\Program Files (x86)\1AVCenter" and "C:\ProgramData\1AVCenter" folders *AND* deleting the NTFS alternate streams attached to "C:\ProgramData\TEMP" (deleting this TEMP folder should also work if you don't know what an alternate stream is or aren't sure how to delete one).

Update to #47
I don't undestand how some people (above) apparently had no problem with activation while I can't activate on either of my laptops (2 different OSs.
This is the FIRST time for mr to ever install ANYTHING from this Developer on these two computers.
Still unsuccessful after numerous attempts.

Installed on Win XP SP3, the install seemed to go fine then I used the activate.exe and it will not activate. I was waiting for this software to come around and now it is unusable. I am disappointed because a friend asked me to install it on his laptop earlier today and it activate fine. Now I have tried to install it on all my PC's and can not activate at all. I hope there is a fix in the next several days because I am very anxious to get it for my self. Sincerely Tim K Best Wishes & a Happy New Year to all and GOTD!

Installed as directed. This is the very first time I have had a registration issue with any GAOTD software. This just refuses to activate. The app even warns that the trial period has expired.

As it is probably now too late to correct, I hope that the developer will fix the problem and re-release this software.

To use this software with WMA output, had to install Windows Media Encoder 9 -- which took forever (well, about ten minutes), hanging on "registering modules" for a long time -- long enough to make you wonder if the PC 'froze'...

@Sonnydj #40: Practically all prepackaged PCs from Dell and others do not allow recording from "Stereo Mix" by default in order to prevent recording of copyrighted material over the Web. But if you think you would love what this program promises to do for you, I suggest you go ahead now and install. You can always get yourself a new or second soundcard (external recommended) for your Dell -- it's no big deal, that is, unless you're trying to build a sophisticated recording studio with your PC. Just choose a soundcard that allows recording from "Wave" or "Stereo Mix." When you've had it installed, it's a matter of choosing it as the default sound card in "Sound and Audio Devices" in your Control Panel. A new soundcard usually comes with its own software. Check to see that it will let you record from "Stereo Mix."

Tried to install and activate on Vista 64 with no luck. All I get is a screen that says the trial period has expired. Have tried all suggestions listed here but still no go. Loaded on laptop running Win XP with no problems, but is is short on memory and I need it on the Vista 64 machine. Will this work on Vista 64 ?????

Hmm... the negative comments from 64-bit Windows users are enough to make me decide to pass on this offer, even if it's supposedly worth $100. Their website does say it's compatible with Windows 7 (and Vista) 32- and 64-bit, but...

Hey, wvgsnfan @34: where'd you manage to get Windows 8? Is it the 64- or 128-bit version? Maybe GAOTD can make this programme available again in a couple of years when the rest of us 64-bit users have upgraded.

(Sorry, but after your dig at Patrick @13 how could I resist?)

Installed where it wanted to , not where I wanted it to.
Ran activation . Opened and closed prog to no avail . Says trial expired.

Can,t GAOTD let us have an email address to enter in their stupid box to give us a key. It does not give much confidence in the product or the company if they cannot even get their install right.

Please give more time to activate this ,. after the Company solves its registration failure.

#18 Of course price presentation is important: it shows if developers are in touch with reality or not. The current GAOTD is a good example as their product is full of errors, badly put together and highly overpriced. Obviously a good idea badly produced is not enough to be successful. The proof of the pudding? #45 ! Its highly time to allow users choose where to install their new apps and not being forced to accept DRIVE C ! PCWinSoft still didn't get it.
Special good wishes to the team GAOTD, the great Ashraf and Mike with their always insightful comments, and all the other subscribers spread over the entire planet, HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Thank you GAOTD team comment 46. I have a request for you though. If the vendor is offering a updated version of a previous giveaway, please ask the vendor to include in the readme file how installs should be handled for those that have the previous giveaway installed. Should we uninstall the previous version? Should we just install over top of the previous version? A few words would help me and I'm sure a lot of others as well. As always thank you for your efforts and thank you to the publisher, PCWinSoft, for the gift.

I too am having trouble installing over an older version of a sub-program. I uninstalled and removed everything I could find in the system registry. Even after austere removal, I am told the trial period is expired and it will not register under giveaway of the day. Too bad. I would like to have tried this program.

Thanks for the information, GOTD Team.

Just a note:
Even after uninstalling the program and using Revo to remove all traces, restarting my pc then reinstalling, it still states that the trial has expired. I have to wonder what hidden registry file (or otherwise) was leftover for the program to still know that it was uninstalled.

Does anyone know which registry file it is reading to know that there has been a previous installation of the software?

@40 every pc has stereo mix, Dell (and some other brands) just have it as hidden device.
go into your control panel and then into Sound. in the new pop up window go to the record tab. You see a list of devices that you can use. In that same list go to an empty place and right click. now choose "show disabled devices" and voila...stereo mix should appear. now enable it and your done

Dear users,

we have contacted PCWinSoft regarding activation issue for those who have previous version of 1AVCenter installed.

Considering today is the first day of the year, the answer is not likely to be received shortly. Anyway we will let you know as soon as we have any information.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards and Happy New year! :)

If you have had the older GAOTD version, there is no way the new version
will install. I tried reinstalling several times, including using Revo
Uninstaller and trying to clean up old references in the registry. It is very obvious that the publisher does not want previous GAOTD version users to have the ability to reinstall this new updated version. Of course, now my old version is gone.Is GAOTD aware that one is unable to install this version if you had the prior version installed? GAOTD really needs to address this issue or at the very least clarify the policies of what, in effect, becomes an update to a GAOTD version. I have tried on both Windows XP (desktop)and Windows 7 (notebook). From prior comments, I see I am not alone. I look forward to hearing of a solution from either the publisher or GAOTD.

The program does not allow me to chose the folder where the videos are stored. This is a very big problem. Videos take up huge amounts of
space. I have plenty of space on my other partitions, but not on C:\.
The help menu says I was given the option of choosing a storage folder when the program was installed. NOT TRUE. I was given the option of choosing the program folder, not the storage folder. The help menu further says that I can change the storage folder by
reinstalling the program. Once again, NOT TRUE. I have gone through
reinstalling, uninstalling, and reinstalling again, and I never get that option.

Installed and activated perfectly on an XP SP3. For those of you with activation problems: Have you tried activating while the program is closed? I ask because once the installation is finished, unless you remove the check it automatically opens the program and usually the activator doesn't work if the program is open.

For those, like me who had a previous GAOTD version of the software, this present GAOTD offer cannot be activated. Take note.

Even after using a clean un-install with Revo, it will still show Evaluation Trial had expired and the Activation fails.

So, for those who have the previous version, you can forget about this until this issue is resolved by GAOTD and the software developer.

Happy New Year.

Same problem as others with w7x64 and previous version. Won't activate. Still, since others who have activated are getting the Blue Screen of Death, maybe this is a good thing.

Going to uninstall one last time and then the hell with it. I don't think this problem will be solved today because no body is working on the holiday and no one cares.

To those suggesting closing the program & it will be activated: It seems those having the problem are people who had a previous, registered version and are now trying to activate this new version. I have installed 10 times using various combinations of when to activate, closing & re-opening, etc + removing all instances of 1AVCenter from registry prior to install and it still says "Trial Period expired".

Unfortunately although it installed and registered without problem, because of the fact that I have a Dell with no 'stereo mix' setting, when I tried to capture an audio stream, the resulting file was empty. I am only writing this to save others with a Dell laptop or anyone who doesn't have a stereo mix setting for their soundcard to not bother. It won't work. I'm looking for a replacement for Freecorder which is the only software which works for me but at the cost of having the "PriceGong" popup running which is extremely annoying.

@12 - run Revo Uninstaller (free), select Advanced from the options you're given. It will then use the programmes own built-in uninstaller, after which it will chase down all related files and give you the choice to delete them. I find this helps when I have a programme which leaves little bits of itself all over the place. Good luck.

After reading some comments on the activation problems I did a little search and found I had, from last installation, a leftover file called PCwinsoftbar.ocx file in the system32 folder. An ActiveX control file. Deleted it with apparently no problems.

That might or might not be the problem. I won't be downloading today's giveaway because I have no use for it, am too busy to play with it so I'm just throwing it out there for those that can take the time to check it out.

Thanks GOTD and all the Software companies that participate in this wonderful website. An especial thanks to those who comment and share their knowledge and insight so freely. - Happy New Year. -

I think the difference is that previous one was "AVCapture" which is a subset of today's "AVCenter." If you go to the website you'll see all the sub-apps that are included in the AVCenter mothership...
-----
Run the setup, then close the app and run the "Activate" file...

For those having trouble registering: install the software completely then open the activate file, then close the program and restart it and it is registered! I am using Windows 8, and it installed flawlessly!

I am curious why there are two tabs that are not selectable [number 18 or 19]? Are these for upgrades later, or is the user able to create a new shortcut on these?

Besides these questions, the program looks great. I was intrigued by the DVR feature stated in the introduction, but there is no mention of it on the software. I presume hard wiring (via composite cables or one coaxial cable) would be required to record from a DVR to the software, unless Wi-Fi is installed on the DVR.

As an aside to Patrick, you are number 13, not number 1 ... the joke's on you. Pwned!

Overall I think 1AV center is well developed but older tech -- where other apps might have undergone full or partial re-writes to include newer, better ways of doing things, 1AV Center reminds me of video software from the turn of the century [it's 2011 now -- I can use that phrase, right? ;-) ] that's undergone continual development since then. And 1AV Center can do a lot, from screen capture to streaming to stealth recording anyone near your PC. IMHO the chief downsides are 1) like many Swiss Army type apps, there's free or low cost software to do a better job in any individual category, 2) it's a VB [Visual Basic] app which is not ideal for fast video capture, & 3) trying to do everything either makes life more complicated, or something gets left out -- usually a bit of both. I'd also be concerned about letting something not widely used [& peer reviewed] act as a doorway between my PC [&/or network] & the web, not that you're likely to use it to start your own YouTube.

If you want to watch live video from your PC/laptop remotely on-line, there are services like Orb http://goo.gl/Vztae to make it easy. If you want to get your webcam or similar feed to an audience, Google/Bing on "webcam broadcast" & you'll get plenty of places to start, like USTREAM.tv. There are loads of approaches for getting video from your PC/laptop to a TV, & loads of devices if you don't want to direct connect, while the latest trend is TVs & Blu-Ray players that don't need a PC to go on-line [e.g. my son doesn't have an HDTV, but he uses a Blu-Ray player to play DVDs & stream Netflix etc. to the regular TV he has -- it was the easiest, cheapest solution, doesn't tie up his PC, & has worked very well for the last year]. If you want to stream to something besides your TV, check out TVersity http://goo.gl/dOe6. If you want to stream over your network there are plenty of alternatives, including the free VLC at videolan.org. Analog & digital broadcast video capture hardware &/or devices usually come with their own software for capture, there are free alternatives like VirtualDub or GBPVR at videohelp.com, it's bundled into many software suites like Nero & Roxio, & it's part of Vista & win7 Media Centers etc. Check previous GOTD offers for screen capture apps.

1AV Center captures video to installed avi codecs or wmv, though I suspect not all Direct Show avi codecs will work. Mpg2 has long been considered ideal because compared to older avi codecs like mjpeg or even DV it doesn't take up vast amounts of disc space, it doesn't require the latest / greatest / fastest hardware, & you can get up to HD Blu-Ray quality using it, but it's not free so you'll usually only see mpg2 capture in pay-ware or software bundled with hardware [for analog capture it's also what Windows Media Centers use, though buried in a dvr-ms or wtv container]. Before mpg2 capture became possible [when CPUs became fast enough] there was mjpeg & HUFFYUV avi codecs -- both still work well for capture today. There are also free DV codecs you can download, or you can try using free VFW versions of X264 to capture direct to H.264/AVC [takes more horsepower but smaller files & maybe no re-encode]. Remember that if streaming a live feed is your goal, it's easier & better streaming smaller files. Also note that you can have high quality, small files, & fast encoding, *But using your PC/laptop you can only have 2 out of 3 at the same time*.

Installing 1AV Center I found 1st off it won't install with less than 32 bit color. And installation does have some impact on Windows -- in win7 ult 32 I recorded 19573 new registry entries [and that's with very few garbage keys/entries like caches &/or Shell\Bags]. Up to 16 files might be added to Windows' system folder, most are registered with Windows, & many can potentially have an effect on software you've already installed. The app's program folder takes up ~5 MB with 73 files, 3 folders. I also got a 1AVCenter folder with 10, empty subfolders in Users \ Public Documents. Resource usage idle was about 170 K RAM, & CPU use was minimal but always there.

Installed ok on WinXP, looks like it has lots of functions. A few problems:
- some bad English in the interface and messages (e.g. "sensibility" instead of "sensitivity")
- doesn't correctly detect all the available audio devices on my system (e.g., the webcam audio)
- launches IE to show the web interface instead of the current web browser (Firefox)
- crashed immediately without error message after playing the alert sound on camera motion detection

I would not recommend installing on windows 7 x64

After my initial test everything seemed fine... BUT
on reboot after logging in I got a BSD (blue screen of death) this happened consistently. I was able to boot into safe mode and remove this software - that made no difference.
I was finally able to recover by doing a last know configuration restore.

So save yourself a headache, avoid this software (at least if you have windows 7 x64)
