I have used Zortam for a few years. It is the easiest of the players,mp3 id editors to use. Logical, compact, gets 99% of file info correct. Keep it up. Thank you for the latest version

Allow the end user to add the song lyrics and use time coding to insure that they display at the proper time so the works to the song are displayed in-sink.

Downloaded and installed smoothly. Took an hour to analyze all 100GB of music on my various drives, then sat waiting for commands. I did some tests--reset some tags based on the information in the file, then renamed some files to take out the _ characters and other things that annoy me, then played back a few songs. All worked well. It's a tiny thing, to be sure, but I really liked the visualization that displayed along with the music. It actually followed the music quite well, unlike Window Media Player's blah generic stuff. I'm not quite ready to have it rename all 50,000 or so of my mp3 files, because sometimes programs like this choke if given too many files at once. However, otherwise I'm happy to have one program that does a lot of different things. Kind of the Photoshop of audio or something.

Installed then re-installed but it just doesn't run, no error message whatsoever, just nothing. Not a rookie and tried everything I can think of. The previous version from GOTD worked fine. Guess I'll download again and try 1 more time before restoring to the previous version that actually worked. Looks like quite a few other people are having the same or similar problems with this one too.

I have both Zortam 14 and 15. I tried to run 15 the other day and it said I was using an unregistered version and that the trial had expired. Same thing with 14 which I got here a year or two ago. 15 I got at bitsdujoir. Both were registered with keys that were provided. I hesitate to download this again knowing full well that this software company is able to remove the registration after a while. I like software that is yours forever to keep once it is registered. Not impressed with Zortam at all.

If you've never downloaded and installed any software from this site before, there's one thing I strongly recommend that you do once the software has been downloaded, installed and registered (making sure you follow the instructions contained in the readme.txt file included in the zip file you download TO THE LETTER!).

That one thing is to navigate to the menu of the software that governs "auto update" of the software (it may be called "automatically check for newer version, or worded differently but meaning the same thing).

Once you find that menu item, it's imperative that you turn the "auto-update" feature OFF - or you're likely to lose your registration and the software will revert to the "trial" version!

If that happens (whether by accident or even by clicking on the link to "check for the latest version") you have no alternative but to re-install the software (if the time period for the Giveaway hasn't expired yet), or paying the registration fee. The terms of this site include the fact that you are NOT entitled to any updates, upgrades, or even any technical support of the software aside from the included Help file or online help if available.

Some of the better companies will have a representative monitor these comments to answer questions and solve problems that you may have, although they aren't obligated to do so. Some companies may even offer substantial discounts on other items they have available, and they could even extend the capability of using the software in a commercial environment, which is usually prohibited under the Terms of the giveaway.

As a veteran visitor to this site I can attest that there's been some really GREAT software available here (and to be honest, there has been some real CRAP too), and I've been severely disappointed in the past when I've forgotten to turn off the auto-update on a prized software only to lose its capabilities overnight! (Can you say AAAAARRRRRGHHH! in your best "inside voice" so as not to awaken the neighbors...)

I'm writing this in response to Comment #21 (@edmiester) who complained about the software reverting to the trial version after "little more than a day." Hopefully that will change his (her?) mind as to the value of this site - which I personally have found to be quite high!

And please remember that the folks who provide software that's given away on this site are engaged in business, and so I hope you're not too quick to condemn them for trying to "make a buck." If they're good business people, they'll provide real value for the amount asked for, and if they don't, they probably won't be in business for very long!

Everyone enjoy, and thanks once again to the GOTD Team, and to Zortam!

(PS: Would it be possible to offer Process Lasso again, in hopes that it's compatible with Windows 8. I recently was forced to upgrade my laptop after my old XP machine went "toes UP" recently. Thanks in advance....)

Best regards,
"Digital" Don Hill

It downloaded and installed smoothly. However after the Explorer had shown that it was activated, I launched it but the toolbar is still showing "Buy Zortam MP3 Media Studio Pro" and "Enter Licence Information". Is anything the matter with my activation procedure? Please help.

Does anyone know of any software that will scan an mp3 that has no music name or tag, just a unrelated file name, find the info of the artist/song? Thanks for any suggestions.

@Swiss Knife
I find that Mp3tag (we're talking about this one, right? http://www.mp3tag.de/) is a fabulous tool for dealing with tags. Converting names to tags and tags to names and all-inclusive search often make my life easier. So I don't have the "pain" from dealing with it...

@Adam If you are so critical, why do You enter on the GOTD website?
I come here for two reasons:

First, this is a great demo site and usually I can test a full version of software before buying multiple copies for my customers (AnVir comes to mind, or recommending software. Some of my customers have home computers for kids and I always check out the weekend gave giveaway, thereby discovering Playrix which I always recommend for such computers.

Second, I can gain a lot of firsthand insight into the software world from reading the real posts here. Giovanni sometimes comes up with some off the wall freeware that really works, such as CleanMem Mini Monitor (which shouldn't work but REALLY does).

I like to think of GOTD as an experts' think tank, although you have to read through some bizarre comments at times which should have been moderated out.

As for the voting... I usually never vote on anything here unless I've installed and tested it first. The only exception to my rule is the RARE scamming where some common software (sometimes repackaged freeware) being peddled for a silly price (i.e., a photo viewer available for $99.99 but free today would be an auto down vote from me). Also rare are companies using shills to push expensive cr--ware and that's a down vote.

So, I didn't vote today because I can't use this application.

Adam, I sincerely hope I helped your understanding. If people we're never critical of anything, we'd probably still be using an abacus and ox pulled cart in our daily lives.

Thanks GOTD for the great website!

Wow. This stinks. Used the duplicate finder feature on my Buddaheads collection. Made sure the listed duplicates were indeed duplicates. Was careful with selection etc...hit delete selected files. It deleted the entire collection, and not to the recycle bin either.

Didn't tag worth a darn either. More than half the genre's were left blank.

Going to start the process of reripping Buddaheads...NOT using this program. Uninstalled.

Doesn't really work here. I'm using an AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (4 x 3,4 GHz) using 4 GB RAM, a Radeon HD 3850 (512 MB GDDR3) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit.
Nope, it keeps telling me "insufficient memory" while trying to playback a song... . Are there any great animations in the player my graphics card isn't capable of with 512 MB? RAM should also be more than enough, so I don't get the idea behind this errorcode...

Downloaded, installed and activated O.K. PROBLEM: When I click on the desktop icon, I immediately get a typically uninformative Microsoft error box telling me that Zortam Mp3 Studio has stopped working and Windows will inform me if a solution is available.... they never do, of course!

Thanks for your comments on this software, which makes me a bit interested, but shy in a way. Here is why. A couple months ago after installing iTunes, it created folders, and placed each song in its own folder etc. Long & short is it changed how I 'stored' my music files. Does anyone here think that this might help me in some way to revert back to my old sorting?

While I don't personally sing-along to most songs, I'm old, I can see how this program would have been wonderful when I was much younger and wanted to learn the lyrics to songs. It's much easier to learn the lyrics when you can hear and SEE them. I was amazed how many in my song library had the artwork and lyrics.

I like the fact that the program was self-registering. At least I didn't have to enter any information.

Being critical of software is fine, don't vote though unless you have actually used it, is the best way to go. *cough*

I'm not voting, I'm satisfied with CDex for ripping my own discs and just using 1by1 and Foobar2000 as players.

I bought Ashampoo's Music Studio 4 for all my other needs (file conversions and burning mixed discs mainly) for $10, but also rips decently too, but been using CDex for 7+ years, so too used to it.

...and no I don't work for them...

I enjoy seeing posts of other software available, thanks for those guys!

adam @11,

Why not look at it this way: people tell you here what you can do to make your software better so it would sell better! For one, why Zortam does not show characters other than ASCII? It's thirteen years into the effing twenty first century already, right? Unicode support should be DEFAULT by now in mp3 taggers, shouldn't it?

WHY SO MANY THUMBS DOWN ?
This program loaded in seconds, fully ready and registered ! (which is more than I can say for most programes !)
It scanned in seconds and worked immediatelly - so what more do you want ? and today it is FREE too !

Like many others maybe using various browsers, some I suspect picky which can cause problems. I use Internet Explorer (which works for the majority of programes that is why I get few problems) and. . . .I actually read the "read me" and follow instructions and I find that I have few problems.

Many thanks to GAOTD and the Zortam Corporation for their kind consideration and for giving us the priviage of sampling their product for free.

Today's giveaway looks like a pretty good tool for managing your music files in the MP3 format: very suitable for iPod, iPhone, Android phones and iTunes users.

It can download song lyric and download cover arts in batch and then autotag them with ease even to your iPod. But it's also able to delete ID3 Tags, delete cover arts and lyrics, as well as search for MP3 duplicates. Very easy to use thanks to its excellent help file option with images.

So why 75% THUMBS DOWN? Don't need it?? DON'T RATE IT...DAMN!!

25 bucks is a little bit overpriced taking into account that you can do more or less the same things and even more for FREE without any UPDATE limitation....

First of all, to search, listen and record any kind of MP3, according to the song name, artist or music genre, from all over the web literally with a mouse click:

http://www.music2pc.com
http://getmp3.altervista.org
http://www.apple.com/itunes (+ http://www.copytrans.net/itunes-cleanup.php + http://sourceforge.net/projects/syncyourtunes + http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Other-AUDIO-Tools/DVD-Ranger-iTurnsPro-Manager.shtml)

Are you are a "Soundcloud" user (https://soundcloud.com) and would like to download any songs from there with tags, even if the tracks are "listen-only"??

Ok, just use this magic FREE tool ki$$ing your wallet GOODBYE for good:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sdownload

If you instead prefer ripping sound tracks from any CDs out there, the open source and Portable app "CDex" can do that flawlessly for FREE:

http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/CD-DVD-Tools/Windows-Portable-Applications-Portable-CDex.shtml

But how about extract for FREE any AUDIO tracks from a DVD VIDEO for playback on iPod or MP3 players?

http://www.aoamedia.com/audioextractor.htm

Then, to manage for FREE your music collection like a PRO, well you can take your pick dudes....

http://www.gsoft4u.com
http://www.getmusicbee.com/features.html
http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/free
http://www.jtclipper.eu/thegodfather/features.html
http://sourceforge.net/projects/idteid3tagedito

Want to use and manage your iPod, iTouch and/or iPad playlists, without even installing iTunes in your system? What? Are you mad, Giovanni??

Of course NOT!!

http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/CopyTrans-Drivers-Installer.shtml
http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php

And finally, don't forget the awesome portable freeware "Taghycardia", to use as a "diagnostic tool" in addition to one of the above Music Tag organizers, in order to prevent the so called "decomposition" of MP3 albums on a tag-sorting portable player, which are often caused by the presence of possible TAG ERRORS causing duplicate or missing albums, artists and tracks:

http://taghycardia.narod.ru/english.html

TOTAL COST OF THE ENTIRE OPERATION ===> 0$/€

Enjoy!!

Presently this appears only useful for Western music (or at least music files using only Latin characters in their file name/path/tags).

As non-Latin scripts are not displayed - left either blank or as garbage characters- this is useless for anyone with songs from countries using other scripts.

Files with characters or tags from other scripts (e.g. Chinese) cannot be processed by the auto tagger.

Files whose filenames are completely in non-Latin script are simply not shown.

The programme does not run on my laptop. I get the error message:
For security purposes, this program will not run while system debuggers are active. Please remove or disable the system debugger before
trying to run this program again.

I have no clue which system debuggers are meant. But I do not understand why an application as this would object to normal antivirus software.

I guess a monster integrated approach like Zortam is good for some, but
I still prefer to use good old (and compact) cdex for cd ripping, and taghycardia for auto tagging. Both are free, the former is opensource! The latter does auto cover art and what not. No Java or .Net required, so go figure.
