Thank you #61! I couldn't even find the right place on their site to do the registration. In the register page it has no place to enter for the version 10. How did the rest of you do it? I was really getting worried til I found #61's post.

Thanks GOTD & Zoner. I appreciate all the great gift programs! :)

I am not sure if this is pointed out already. For those who do not want to waste their time getting used to the pro version for a limited time, you have the option to skip the 'test drive pro version' so you don't have to deal with it when it expires. You get that option when you use the program for the first time.

Hope this helps

The Xpress version is FREE for crissake. STOP WHINING. What do you people expect - Photoshop SE for free ? If you don't like the software - JUST UNINSTALL IT. If Zoner sends you spam - banish them to your spam filter.

Zoner developers,
I've been experimenting with ZPS10 today and generally like the plethora of features. I'm a software engineer myself and really appreciate the work you've put into all of your programs. However like Zoner Media Explorer 4.5, ZPS10 crashes on me regularly. Specifically ZPS10 locks up my XP/SP2 box completely after editing a picture for a few minutes. I can repeat that problem. Just now I was creating a panorama and got a BSOD. So I'm pretty much done testing. It could be unique to my hardware as I don't find any other instances of "crash" in today's posts. The machine I'm using today is actually different from the one I've used ZME4.5 and experienced crashes with (also XP/SP2), but that's still not conclusive or helpful enough to isolate the problems. I just wanted to let you know what one potential customer is experiencing.

Yet again the thumbs down have it and some jerks are still marking honest comments with the usual -
This is'nt helping GOTD or the software company that offer the programs here at all.
I gave this a try but I've got too used to Paint Shop Pro now (So basically prefer to use a program I know how to use already)

The install went well and 2 months is a good time to try to get to know it better!
I'll keep giving it a go though as it's cost me nothing if I decide I still prefer my other paint program.

There now, That's was'nt too difficult to do was it?

Seems a waste of time and effort to download and use a software that is only a less functional version of a program, that after 60 days turns back into a "pumpkin".

Also I don't appreciate sites that want you to register so they can bombard your email with advertising. Besides, there's no way to know whether a site sells email addresses or not, regardless of their claims, because there is no way I know of, to find out where spammers obtain addresses from! (I've wondered if anyone ever does make money from spam, if there are people who actually would read spam and buy the crap the spammers are spreading?)

To those unhappy campers who have been complaining somewhat bitterly today for getting the full EXPRESS version but only with a 60-day trial of the PRO version,

I am getting indigestion from your whining; as Funkster already clearly pointed out to you way back at message #16, “in todays offer, the EXPRESS-version is for

KEEPS, but it comes bundled with only the 60-day trial PRO-version.“

- If an unlimited Express version is not sufficient for your needs, or you already have something better, just do not complain about it.
- If your are not interested to test-drive the PRO version for 60-days, just do not complain about it. There will be other people who will appreciate being given

the opportunity.
- If you know in advance you do not need to first try out the unlimited PRO-version and that it is the only version you are willing to consider, just BUY it or

hope it will be offered sometime in the future, since the unlimited PRO version is definetely not part of today s offer, anyway.

The conditions for the offer of today were clearly stated in the description way at the top; so why are some people still demanding an unlimited PRO-version some

14 hours into this Giveaway and some 50 messages after the Funkster (#16) reminded everyone that the unlimited PRO-version was not part of this giveaway.

When one writes comments in this space, I expect to see information about the product (likes and dislikes); sharing of experiences, etc. but only related to what

is actually included in the offer and not on what one WISHES the offer had included. For example, please complain as much as you want on items such as :
- problems with downloading or installation
- some feedback about the usefullness of the product
- brief comparisons with other similar products (freeware or not)
- features in the software that do not work
- restrictions in the software that are not documented
- whether the software is easy or complex to use; User Interface is user friendly or not
- do warn me that e-mail or other data is being collected, but let each person decide what he-she should do about it; I suspect complaing message after message

and day after day is of little benefit to the general majority.
- etc.

For example, comments or information included in messages such as #76, #78, #80 were useful to me.
Also, #77 offers no information, but very well expressed my sentiments, too; that is, “I wish people would RATE the programs by HOW THEY WORK, not by WHETHER

THEY NEED IT or NOT.”

I, too, WISHED the offer had given us the unlimited PRO-version instead; but after reading it was not part of the giveaway, I went away without complaining about

it or to try to criticize the efforts of GAOD.

Unfortunately, by writing this message, I too, did not stick to the subject of today’s giveaway; in a way, I’m hoping this will at least reduce the number of

unproductive messages generated (ie. complaints outside of scope or bickering between people). I apoligize, but I just found too many messages of late of some

people complaining about the TAOD offers not giving them exactly what they WISH. It seems the expectation of some people (I am not singling out #72 here) is to

demand from GAOD (each and every day) only stuff they wish for and the vendors should provide only their top-of-the-line products without any restrictions and at

ZERO cost. If there is nothing that interest them today, than they are obliged to complain to express their unhappiness for not having been catered to their

selfish wishes.

The only issue I believe is worth pointing out with the bundling of the 60-day PRO-versions into the Express version is this. It is not a good idea from my point

of view. The offer today should have included just the full EXPRESS version or the HOME-version. By being provided a 60-day limited PRO-version it has the

appearance we are just downloading a Trial PRO-version from the vendor site and for that we do not need to use GAOD services. During the 60-day period all I can do is muck around with that PRO-version to try various features just to evaluate it, but I cannot use it do actually do any serious work with it, since I suppose there no easy means to know when the EXPRESS vs. the PRO version functions are being utilized. Later, when the 60 days are up and the software reverts to the EXPRESS-version, (unless one buys the PRO-version ) one stands to lose most of the work spent to date on it (as many of the extra features are disabled). Therefore, I would have preferred to start with just a clean EXPRESS-version first. If that got my interest, I could always fetch (anytime) separately the trial PRO-version (even if it is for just 30-days) for further evaluation before deciding to purchase it.

Well, I went to the bother of a throwaway email address just to give the program a fair trial, and it's rather disappointing compared to Picasa. It's not bad, it's just that it has nothing that stands out to make it worth paying for. The author needs to find some hook that will make it appealing. For example, if I were writing something like this, I'ld try to integrate it with an online services such as Flickr and get Flickr to buy it out so they can give it away free as the Flickr Photo Manager! (or some other big company that wants to compete in the Picasa space) But he'll never get rich from penny-ante sales because this doesn't have the appeal to capture the mass market.

I downloaded this program and was told that the zip file was corrupted. I almost tried to download it a second time but having read the comments here (2 months trial) I'll wait for something more permanent. Also the download speed was really slow. It took an hour.

You guys are missing the point here, the point is this program is not free for a working version it is basically a two month free trial of the program then it reverts to a crap version

also the program is not that good considering you can get other programs that are fully free like paint.net.............which do the same thing , only much better

who cares about giving an email addy, dont we all have like 10 email addys anyway? some for personal use and some free ones on yahoo for spam? I know I do

Not fair!
GOTD is a great group with a wonderful idea. However they - and we - are being taken advantage of with this so called "great deal".

The whole reason behind companies providing software free for 1 day, is the marketing exposure they get in return. Zoner-software has pulled a fast one. Let me translate: "We Zoner Software would like to PLEASE have the fantastic exposure from GOTD BUT, we don't feel like paying anything for it, so here you can test our trial software. We will do a nice song and dance and then we get the exposure and you get what we give away for free anyway. [ha, these guys are suckers]"

I think this is really not the way to go. There are thousands of sites where I can download this kind of offer every day of the year. Why should GOTD take such a step beck to please such a greedy company that doesn't play fair??

I like milk.

In front of me is a glas of milk. The bottom half is filled with milk en the top half is empty.
I could refer to this glas as half empty.
I also could refer to this glas as half full.

It's rather a matter of perspective. The angle you choose will be in sync with your feelings about the state of filling of that glas. When you're disappointed you'll be inclined to say "It is half empty" to stress the emptieness.
When you're happy about the milk being there you will be inclined to say "It's half full" to stress the fact that there is milk.

To me, I like the fact that there is the express version to keep and in addition a 60 day trial for the professional functionallity. My glas is half full, like #18 'Bettersafethansorry'.

To #22 'elfans' the glass is half full. He does not say he is disappointed, but hides this by saying "The developer shoulda gave away the FULL version" But the question is: why should they ??

I my self am a registered Adobe Photoshop CS3 -user. To me, nothing can match that, but there is so much functionallity and detail-tuning that it is sometimes a bit hard to find your way and keep in control of all the functionallity.
And I fully agree with #6 'Whiterabbit' that starting the programm is really something else here with this GAotD, which is quick and easy and to find your way around.

When you do not want to do a really fancy type of processing on your pictures it gives you really a good set of tools. It is not to replace something as photoshop, but you can use it if you want to do some quick and easy processing with a good quality result, without bumping into a lack of basic functionallity. This combination of features is not always there in alternatives. But alternatives will be always there. So what, today is about this Zoner-software. Don't loose focus.

The profesional features are only extra to this GAotD. When you really can not cope with the idea of something extra, you even have the choise to choose in the setup. Just choose "no" for professional features.

Oh well, perhapse you don't like the the software (i.e. the express version) at all. I wonder how you would know without trying, but either don't download or just uninstall. GAotD did not garantee that you personally would like the offer this day (so do be prepared uninstalling it when that is your conclusion).

@Curt #31:
Your warning is a bit misplaced.
You can have your "studio 9" and "studio 10" installed at the same time in different folders without a problem. The upgrading is just in the ability to use the "studio 10" (professional) features where you were used to the "studio 9" features. Like I pointed out earlier, I do not uninstall version 9 before I am sure version 10 express will have all of the functionallity that 9 has and more (I might even use them both). In the worst case I might even uninstall todays version. But knowing Zoner-software this is not probable.
Comparing will take me at least a day and that is what I cannot do today because of other obligations.

@John #25:
Have it your way, your free to do so. But www.mailinator.com would have solved your problem with registrating.
Quote: "The program may be great; I hope it is. I’ll never know. Unfortunately" needs not to be the case. Have fun a bit, I hope you stil will.

'Unfortunately, we cannot give out version Professional to Giveaway of the Day, because we have to pay royalties from used technologies,...'

I've found this "message" to be misleading. Contrary to this statement and its implication that no profit is made from offering software license at Giveaway of the Day, the vendor WILL be paid for every sigle download. Not by the users, but by GAOTD. (Click on "For Developers" link on top to read the terms for developers, if you are not aware of it.) Therefore there is no reason whatsoever for Zoner not to pay their royalties from the license fees for the downloads that GAOTD will pay to ZONER.

Due to this dishonesty, I've given the thumbs down.

Yes, this Xpress version is a lightweight for digital photo editing. But it might be all you need, and it does have some interesting features. I especially like the easy horizon leveling and the unsharp mask and other sharpening & blurring tools. Redeye correction is also simple. The ability to assign GPS data is a plus.

In addition to being an editor, there is a very nice photo organizer here too. I like the ability to view my pictures as they exist in my Windows folders as well as arranged into albums.

I almost didn't try this based on the comments, but I'm glad I did. It's not a demo; just a useful little program. I'm giving it a thumbs up and recommending it to family & friends.

If you need a more robust feature set, the pro version isn't bad with the 30% discount they are giving us. But for free, Paint.NET is wonderful. Packed with features, it still loads quickly. Much better than waiting for Photoshop. The download size is only 1.55MB.

Too big. Too cumbersome to have to learn when there are superb freeware alternatives like Picasa at http://picasa.google.com/ and FastStone at http://www.faststone.org/.

Al the blathering earlier on in this thread about quirky registration and email address requets etc misses the point entirely:

Is it any good? Is it worth DLing a full function but time limited demo?

After looking at this latest Zoner offering, my esperience (as someone who works a lot with images) is that it's fine for someone who has (a) no experience of image handling / editing software and (b) lives on a planet where there is no Internet connection to the above mentioned websites.

My current trio of image handling / editing sofware is:

1) First, Picasa, for speed and ease of use: for example, I can correct verticals in Picasa a hell of a lot faster than I can in Photoshop.

2) FastStone, because it's also very fast and does exactly what it says it will do -- more, much more, than Picasa but with a necessarily more complex user interface and longer learning curve.

3) PhotoShop: because there are times when yes, I really do need the power and facilities of the world's best image editor. But only every other month or so -- the combination of the above mentioned freeware apps is more than adequate for even complicated stuff.

Nothing in today's offering is good enough or unique enough to replace one of the above trio.

If you can justify the time spent on the learning curve, then it may be worth a punt, but otherwise. . .

This is a program that I wanted to download right away when I read the description. I am happy I waited to read the comments. I'm sure this is a nice program and has some great features...... but it's not the full version after 60 days. If I want a demo version of software I can go to download.com, Softpedia, Tucows, etc, etc. No I want a full version program which this site normally provides. I understand the publisher's issue about royalties. I can understand the publisher not wanting to pay this. But if that is the case why offer something that you can not support? It's a given fact that every publisher that contributes to this site wants us to vitit their site to purchase other products that they offer. But offering a demo like program does not instill the confidence in me to want to try other offerings from this publisher. And I will not even go into the email process that is required to "register" this program. Bottom line is do I want to give up 120MB of disk space for a demo like program? Irfanview install in under 2MB and Paint.net is under 8MB. You do the math. No matter how I figure it it just don't work out. Thank you to the GAOTD team for the offer. For the publisher, Zoner, Inc.... come back when you have something worth while to offer us.

Santar #37 your logic escapes me. You chastise John #25 by telling him to "Comment only on the program please", but your comment has no reference to the "program" either. If you can post such comments, why can't he do the same?

Also how do you know that "none of us care about your reservations about giving out your email address"? Your Holier than thou attitude reveals the youth of your mentality. I don't think you are in any position to tell anybody to grow up.

I do care about who I give my e-mail address to, so I guess I am not "one of us" and frankly, I don't want to be associated with the "all of us" that you so proudly belong to.

For Tom9641, #62:

When you get an Error Code, just Google it like this:

"error code" (and here put the # of the code, in your case it's
0xC0000005. Don't use parentheses.)

I did this and got:
http://www.updatexp.com/0xC0000005.html

Also, in your case, you may want to put this in quotes and
Google it:

"ZPSICFG.exe application error"

WHY ON EARTH is ANYONE here whining about providing *AN* email address in order to get commercial software for FREE? That's NUTS! Have you NEVER heard of hotmail, yahoo mail, etc.? You mean to say you are willing to take the time to post some diatribe about how you are unwilling to supply an email address when it is just as EASY and effortless to get a FREE email address? Well, guess what, lots of us will be enjoying today's offering a few weeks from now when reality kicks in and you say to yourself, "I should have grabbed that." Or maybe you won't say that, because you have serious issues that reality can't even solve.

While I sympathize with those of you who fear leaving an email

My favorite is at SpamGourmet.com, ( http://www.spamgourmet.com )
where you can create dozens of "temporary" email addresses for
yourself that CAN BE USED OVER AND OVER and if any Spam comes to
those addresses, YOU NEVER SEE IT.

I've used Spamgourmet for years and cannot live without it. Whenever
I'm asked for an email address, I just give them a "fake" temporary

Oh, er... if you think I am a SpamGourmet spokesman, you're wrong.
And to prove it, here are a couple dozen other similar companies

I went to their web site and found several nifty things that I would like to do with this program. It would be a keeper for me except that after downloading using Vista Home I get the following message when trying to install:

ZPSICFG.exe application error.

Reading the past posts it seems like I am the only one having this problem. Any ideas on how to get this program up and running?

To save you all time, the registration code is JH0FM-3A1F6-31HVK-S5NW6. Since they are all the same for all users no need to go through what I consider the requirement to accept email form the publisher in order to get the code a very bad policy of Zoner. This only serves to drive people away from their software.
As for the software itself, the full version does seem to be packed with t6ools. Will play with it and the express version. It may be worth keeping.

Do I have this correct?

We are getting the professional version, which will only work for two months, then it reverts back to the regular version?

So, whats the point then?

As for the issue of giving an email address to receive the registration code, I just signed up for Zoner's free email account with 5 gb of storage. So they can send all the email they want to this email address.

I give it a thumbs up because it works. But I see no advantage to this over the free irfanview.

Roxio PhotoSuite 10 is much better anyway. How the hell would you know it's better when you stated you would not be downloading todays GOTD.????

Giving your email out is part of the program.
And yes to offer a program that does not give you the full program without restrictions on time such as this 60 day full program and then it reverts to another version is not what I expect from GAOTD. I would ask the GAOTD management to review their policies and not offer software that is a "teaser" that stops functioning as it was originally downloaded. This only serves to undermine GAOTD's reputation.

To fully appreciate this software you must try it out. Many features such as being able to create contact sheets in PDF, PDF slideshows (new to me), make panorama photos, templates, photo frames. I honestly cannot see why such negative comments on this program. As already mentioned earlier look what it can do

After two months it is back to the Xpress version.

I checked the comparison between the different versions of ZPS from a link given by one of the commenters above. The features of Express version are quite unimpressive. I have Faststone Image Viewer for quick jobs like color correction, and the GIMP for intricate work. I don't think ZPS really fits any of my needs.

#49, Only problem is DVD feature is ONLY in Professional version which will expire after 2 months. A lot of other features like watermarking option for overlaid text/images, effect brush tool (t), resharpening, noise removal, batch filter, etc are in Professional version.

Check if the features is only in professional version so don't confuse others.

No different than limited time shareware and not exactly free.

For those who couldn't find the registration link, it's in the blurb above where it asks for the serial under a link that says click "here". The registration link for these sort of giveaways is usually in the description. Since this one isn't and people seem to have missed it, here it is:

#41. Sounds like you could use the GIMP - open source image editing and quite sophisticated in terms of layers, selection tools plus loads more. Not sure about this software, but it sounds like more of an organising tool than an editing tool.

I posted earlier #21. Less haste and more speed! Problem was that I omitted to e-mail for the serial number, hence the DVD features were disabled. Serial number is now entered. Have now created a movie (no erros) This is very good software. Lots still to investigate. As for people comparing to Paintshop Pro, these are professional software programs (not freebies or cheapies - most of us are unlikely to use the majority of their sophisticated features). I do not think there can be any comparison. Paintshop Pro and the like DO NOT allow the creation of DVD slideshows. I believe that this software (Professional version) is ideal for the average user. Thank you GAOTD
