Could not successfully open download (screenshot available if wanted) was not able to install program let alone register. Tried several times. Running Windows 7. I was surprised, I don't usually have any trouble downloading or installing GAOTD software.

No user interface came up when I started the downloaded the exe-file.

Does the program maybe try to install a startup program or or do something else that I have blocket with Startup Defender or what?

This "german" company seem to try secret tricks with users, such as distributing programs with suspicious secret actions, harvesting email-addresses, ... and/or God knows what.

- Warning for Wondershare! Its mission might be to give Giveawayoftheday bad reputation!!!

I got that software months ago through GAOTD and it was great. I even wrote a review based on my experience:

Over 4-5 hours I tried about 10 times, on three computers, using three userid's. Never received in email or junkmail.

I get that sometimes, lately since I got Mamutu from this site I've gotten that error, best to turn that off if you have it and try again or go offline and try to install, sometimes a reboot is required to get it to work, Good Luck

The link #10 posted is for another giveaway by Wondershare called
Vivideo 2.0.0 a similar kind of program.

I have this program from the last give away, no real great updates so I'll keep the old version, would be nice if had the features everyone else has mentioned from the deluxe, will be checking out the Vivideo program in the meantime.
Thanks Wondershare and the GAOTD Team

Happy Holidays Everyone

Thank you GOTD, but I have the Deluxe version of this, and this is a great software for Beginners and Advanced Users, (Thumbs Up for Wondershare products). I didn't vote on this giveaway cause I didn't install it.
...but for anyone who doesn't care for this software and downs it, I just don't know too many sites that takes their time everyday to give you something for free, and than you complain about it.
Merry XMas to all the grateful people here on this site and the GOTD team!

I was able to install and register it fine on XP SP3 but after doing that and running I start getting repeated errors about "Access violation at address 0EC2C662 in module 'ProjectDoc.dll'. Read of address 00000000."

I can not get past this and I have uninstalled and re-installed several times with no change in the results

I downloaded the previous Wondershare Slideshow Builder that was here on offer in May and made my first slideshow just a few weeks ago. It was very easy to use.
Although it lacks the quality of the deluxe version you can still make a good show.
To give you some idea what you can do with it, you could watch my slideshow here:

I made it to Polish song Australian Carol (Australijska Koleda)
Merry Christmas

@19 Trish,

That's what I get when Mamutu is monitoring the Gotd "setup.exe" wrapper. If you are using a behavior blocker, you will need to make an exclusion for the setup.exe. Then after it turns over control to the actual install, you can undo the exception. This is something that Gotd has changed in their wrapper in the last month or so and I find it deplorable that they disregard our security concerns so blatantly.

Hello everyone,

#19 - Trish M - You probably have Mamutu downloaded from a previous GOTD giveaway. If so, that would probably be your culprit. For some reason the setup files opens faster than Mamutu so you get a warning. Click on "Allow this behavior" and if the same thing happens again, click on "Exclude from protection". Assuming that the problem is with Mamutu, that will fix it. I had the same issue a while back and Mamutu was the problem. I hope this helps.

#25 - Waldemar - I totally agree with you that, at the very least, there should be some support to the voting system.

It is beyond ridiculous that #4 - Rick Frog (yesterday's giveaway) would get such a response. It would probably scare away anyone from posting a help plea. I didn't have a solution for him so I didn't post but I saw NOTHING wrong with his post. Can't anyone voice their own opinion, questions, concerns...without being bashed? A newcomer would NOT know what to make of this site based on the voting system. You get voted (-) just because someone doesn't like what you posted and not because the comment was irrelevant to the giveaway. It would be beneficial for everyone if GOTD changed the way to do it.

As for today's giveaway, I think I'll pass even though Wondershare has great products and instead I will take advantage of some members advice on Photo Story 3. Thank you very much for the tip!

Thank you GOTD and Wondershare for the giveaway and have a great day everyone :-)

I downloaded, unzipped & installed today's Wondershare DVD Slideshow Builder in the usual way. Entered the registration information successfully. However, I cannot run the program -- when I click on the initial screen, it goes away & nothing happens. I uninstalled with Revo, then downloaded & went thru the whole process again. Still nothing, only this time a message flashed briefly once, "Access violation at...."; it never appeared again.

If anyone at Wondershare is reading this, or perhaps someone reading the posts, I'd appreciate some help! I believe I used this program before and liked it; have used other Wondershare products also. Have successfully used many, many GOTD offerings.

Thanks, Giovanni, and others, for the good alternative suggestions! Still, I'd like to use this one, if I can get it to run. What might be causing an access violation? Thank-you in advance.

Thanks to all who reviewed and posted their findings here today. It saved me from investing time (a very precious commodity these days) downloading & Installing it. I have version 6.1.1 and was hoping this would address some of the serious short-falls (i.e. a true upgrade). But I see there are no real improvements so I will pass. Thanks anyway GoTD team, and to everyone who posts here, what a great gang of people!

I added the free "All in One Slideshow Resources Package" from their website (link within program too).

http://www.wondershare.com/pro/movie-slideshow-resource.html?utm_source=resstyle&utm_medium=direct&utm_campaign=dsb

It didn't seem to impact my registration (which still holds). However, I failed to do a before-and-after check to see how many resources this 84 MB download actually installed to my standard version (sorry). Hopefully, more is there and more is better. Thanks GAOTD, Wondershare, and commenters.

I agree with many people here that there are many other programs having advantages over this one. However, this one is more simple and easy to use making it suitable for begginers and unexperienced users.
Thats the reason why i uninstalled it!
Another reason for uninstaaling this program is that I have Ashampoo slideshow maker which is a wonderful program and also a great GAOTD offer.
Thanx GAOTD.

Today's offer is closely related to yesterday's Tipard DVD Maker but for those of us who are looking for some guidance we are going again to the same trap of misleading statistics similar to what happened yesterday and many times before.

The Tipard DVD Maker offer from yesterday was a typical example of confusing statements and inability to curb an appetite for abusing votes. It does not happen very often to see here such an insensitive and harsh response shown yesterday to an early plea for help from Rick (#4). Due to inferior method of presenting yes|no voting statistics I suspect even much higher number of negative votes than the actual number of 241 at the end of the day.

This is not a new issue and I can hardly wait for more clear approach to help developers, and us, with more meaningful clues. Rather than showing the balance, it would make more sense to provide at least both values for yes and no votes, like:

Did you find this comment useful? yes 55 | no 296 (-241)

However, to make these statistics even more meaningful it would be much better to separate usefulness of comments from usefulness of product by asking not one, but two questions:

Did you find this comment useful? yes 15 | no 120 (-105)
Did you find this software useful? yes 78 | no 27 (+51)

It would be much easier to draw a proper conclusion of what to think about value of the software and supporting quality of comments. As a bonus, the final count would reflect on all individual votes instead of the incomprehensible tally of 1089 | 180 votes from last night.

I was delighted to see that in spite of Rick's bumpy start many viewers disregarded bullying votes and decided to help him find a way out.
Merry Christmas Rick and to whole GAOTD community.

It looked so promising when opened initially however, it is so cut down in its functionality that I uninstalled it.
A number of comments have mentioned Microsoft Photostory 3, it is superb and here's why.
Each photo can have its own individual audio.
This audio can be recorded within the program.
Each photo can have a text caption.
This caption can be recorded within the program.
It is extremely easy to use, great for those not too comfortable on a computer.

I love this software! The huge variety of transitions, some 'automatic,' is great to play with, and it just seems to work well. However, having said that, we used the last GAOTD offering of this software to do my daughter's HS graduation videos. We sorta had two videos with about 700 pictures on each. One thing to be aware of... Don't do a clean of the drive before you've completely finished the video and saved it as such - check out the instrucitons. I did a clean of the drive and lost all my work the first time. Then everything went smooth sailing after that on both videos until the day before the party when the older video decided to quit before the end of the pictures - just ended with black screens - lost about 10-20 pictures. We couldn't figure it out, and the more we tried to fix it, it seemed to cut more off. Other than that (which is actually huge) I loved the software! Thanks GAOTD!

Witout a doubt Wondershare has some great products. I have tried quite a few of their GAOTD offerings and been really pleased with them. As others comments mention, this Standard Version of their slideshow maker is missing some features that are essential to creating top knotch slideshows. By comparision free Photo Story 3 for Windows does a much better job imo than this standard version from Wondershare. I personally prefer Ashampoo Slideshow Studio 2HD. Though not free it almost was. I picked it up from one of their email specials for under ten bucks. Thanks Wondershare and GAOTD.

Nice enough, though rather limiting in scope.

OK if you need to make basic slide shows but lacks a lot of functionality that most users would expect.

Registration (though 10 minute email) is quick and simple though.

Wonderful program from GAOTD and Wondershare - especially at Christmas. Wondershare products are very user-friendly, produce excellent results and are reasonable priced. There are free alternatives (Magix is excellent but a bit slim) but none of them pack the punch that this program does. Merry Christmas GAOTD and Wondershare and a prosperous New Year to you both.

Sorry, but I get a little irritated with software developers who promise that which they then don't deliver. As with this from Wondershare, because DVD Slideshow Builder Standard does not offer the ability to turn slides into a Hollywood-type movie experience.

I've been making slideshow-based DVDs for years, ever since Microsoft's astonishingly good Photostory was released, one of the greatest products Redmond ever created but never knew. So it abandoned it. Yet Photostory offered (and still does) the definitive Hollywood movie-making experience, including the ability to:

* pan and zoom ('Ken Burns Effect');

* determine how long each individual slide should be kept on screen;

* decide how long a transition should last from one slide to another -- say, a slo-oooo-w dissolve or fade-out and fade-in, or a fast jump-cut.

No Hollywood-style movie -- unless it was shot 100 years ago -- has static camera positions, fixed length dissolves and fixed length scenes.

But sadly, that's all that Wondershare's 'Standard' DVD slideshow builder offers. Yes, it's easy to operate, but then so it should be, seeing as how so many processes are automated and not within the user's choice or control.

Though it may just possibly appeal to any who think oh-my-gosh-wow, let's use dozens of special effects and transitions because, er, they're there -- regardless of the fact that there's nothing worse than having to suffer through someone's home-made DVD slideshow consisting of curling, flashing wipes and diamond fade-outs and shuttering fade-ins: good God, when did you ever see on TV or the cinema any movie looking like that? -- this Standard version is nothing like as 'Hollywood style' as Wondershare's more expensive Deluxe version. And even that still doesn't trump the free Windows Photostory 3.

Unfortunately, PS was created in an era when the notion of burning to a home DVD player didn't even exist (it was written 10 years ago) and there are reports that it won't work nowadays on Windows 7.

But as I have Windows XP on one computer and Windows Vista on another, I have no problems with it, and using the many work-arounds available from numerous Windows Photostory Internet forums, it continues to be perfectly possible to create the exact 'Hollywood-style movie experience' with Photostory 3 that, sadly, the Wondershare Standard Slideshow Builder (though not Wondershare's Deluxe Slideshow Builder) doesn't provide.

* For those new to 'slideshow building', this link is to Microsoft's Photostory 3 download page (5Mb download):

http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=11132

YouTube also has a variety of video tutorials and there are, as mentioned, various Photostory online forums. Even if you decide not to bother with Photostory 3, gaining an insight into what it does, and the standards it set -- standards that no commercial software has ever bettered -- is useful.

This is the standard version ($39.95). It lacks several important features, which you get for free with Windows Moviemaker. E.g. you can't set the duration of each photo, there are no transition effects, and no way to pan or zoom. If you want such basic effects, you need to buy the "deluxe model" at $59.95. For furter comparison, use the link to Wondershares homepage.

Does this do more than the Tipard DVD Maker that was just offered? I downloaded that program but haven't had a chance to try it and just wanted to know if today's program would be needed as well. If anyone could help me out with this any input appreciated. I haven't used these type programs and no knowledge of differences.
I do have some other Wondershare programs and they work really well. I just basically need to know if I would need to keep Tipard DVD Maker as well (if it will do something that today's offering won't). Thanks GOTD and developers for all the great programs here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Be sure to check out this page for version differences between Standard and Deluxe version

Though it is a good giveaway, the following are not present in the provided Standard version.

Photo duration (for how long a photo should be displayed)
Transition effects
Motion effects (Pan/Zooming)
Video editing
Adding videos as sources

Thanks to the GAOTD and Wonshare for the share!

I used this one time to make a wedding album for a friend and his bride, It was easy to use and very user friendly, and if I may say so, the album came out great, this is an easy application to use for beginners. However with that being said, I know those who are more advanced in using more advanced programs will probably vote down on this program, but for those reading this who arent real familiar with programs that do this sort of thing, I think this will be a good one to have until you can get something to better your needs in the future. Thanks GAOTD and Wondershare for this.
