#24 DVDFab is a copier, not an editor.

Careful when installing today's giveaway, it tries to add itself to your computer's startup (It's a good idea to have startup monitoring software).

@24 Edmiester

This program is an editor and creator, not just a burner. But I agree, we're seeing a hell of a lot of video programs.

Issuing new rippers makes some sense as they may need to deal with new types of DRM in commercial DVDs from time to time.

In order to prevent losing this program due to the automatic updates/upgrades I suggest that you click the “Option” tab near the upper right corner of the GUI and uncheck the “updates” box.

One can also choose an option “never” to the right of the updates box, instead.

I found myself with the same problem and most people I reckon do. I think most video converter developers don't want to risk implementing some advanced features for the sake of most users so they just default to the usual bland staple of one click video converters which as barebones as they may be they serve the purpose for most users. If you or anybody else interested wants more control on your video encoding process like encoding to a known output file size, choice of different encoders, filters, subtitles.... etc these are some few open source projects and freewares you may want to give a try: meGUI, Handbrake and ffCoder. I use all of them but prefer megui just because it gives me more control but it has a steeper learning curve. Handbrake is the easiest to use of the bunch plus it will rip DVDs to mp4s with a wide range of options. Hope those solve your problem.
About today's offer its a good DVD slideshow maker, easy to use and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to make beautiful slideshows and burn them directly to DVD.With that said it won't hurt adding some more editing features.

For information:

@ Mario, post #18: Seeing as DVD Decrypter was long since abandoned by its English developer under threat from studios and movie distributors, I'd be fascinated to know how you're managing to rip today's DVDs with a software that hasn't a clue about today's protections.

@ Edmeister, post #24: Harking back to an era when DVD FDab lived up to its name as the best freeware around of its type is fine for nostalgia buffs but a bit misleading now. Download it and you're saddled with a program suite, most of which isn't accessible unless you pay for it. And you'll be hit with up-sell messages more often than you think.

Bottom line: nowadays, such is the competition between the three majors in the 'popular' genre of DVD-related spoftware, rather than the hi-tech end of things -- that's Wondershare, Ashampoo and Digiarty -- you might just as well grab a freebie when you can from one, run it until it expires or, at some point near expiration, grab a freebie of the same software from the other.

Digiarty, Wondershare and Ashampoo *saturate* the marketplace with DVD-related products. There's no reason, now, to spend anything on any of them. Or bother about DVDFab or DVD Decrypter or any other if you're looking for one-click ease of use and general reliability.

Today's GOTD is excellent. If its shelf life turns out to be limited, then so what? Just like buses, there'll be another one along very soon. Thanks GOTD, as ever, and thanks, Wondershare.

I always post late in the day because I live on the West Coast, so I doubt my posts even get read. But I hope this post helps someone...

I have purchased several Wondershare titles, and I have found this company's software to be excellent... including Wondershare DVD Creator. You will be glad you downloaded this program.

Yet another burner? Please a person can only use one program to burn, shoving more to the market makes no sense. This one does more, no this one is better. Please, DVDFab is the best why mess with the rest, it does it all. All Hail Geovani!

Unbelievable, after 5 years as a GOATD-user, now only visiting once every couple months, I find the mods STILL blocking some posts while allowing the moaning and groaning to continue. "Levity is good medicine." Hope Wabbit and Delenn are doing well.

SUBMITTED MUCH EARLIER, never showed:

@Mothman – WRT your question, “how many video converters and DVD burners does a person need?”
If you know anything about Douglas Adams, you know the answer is always 42.

Hello,

I have been hunting for a good dvd creation program for ages. One that does not seem complicated or spends hours recoding perfectly good dvd files and then giving you a bad picture.

And one that does not require you to do this with one software then apply the file to another software and then run the results through something else before recombining everything through some other 1995 old piece of software...

And I found it....

It's called WOMBLE EASY DVD ( http://www.womble.com/products/easydvd.html ) and it could not be simpler and give you better results... with a little bit of time and some trial and error at first, you can truly make awesome dvds.

All you need to do is rip dvds with DVD DECRYPTER, then save the stuff you want in DVD SHRINK (not using the "make file one gig" option, it works best this way) and then opening Womble.

Once you have done your menus and have imported your files, WOMBLE saves everything, ready for burning. And the best part, if your files are from dvds, it won't recode them, nor the audio !

So you truly get the real picture quality with simple menus (I have gotten quite good at making awesome menus).

It's perfect for those tv episodes dvd compilations.

Worth a look !

Thanks :)

M.

All of the software from Wondershare that was running in my computer expired after 1 year, no more installation from them will be allowed again. Cleaning the registry of expired software is a big pain and some segments are still running without software attached to them. Occasionally I get errors even after all visible trace have been deleted.

Dear Giveawayoftheday Team,

Please keep up the good work and continue doing what you have been doing for some time now.
New members like myself, for example, certainly do enjoy your daily offerings of programs that we would otherwise did not have a chance to try or use before, be it converters, recorders, photo-editing programs, you name it.

I appeal to the “older” visitors to be patient and to take into account the fact that many of us are newcomers to this site, and what might be a repeat for some, it is not to us-the newcomers.

Regards,

Bob

I know this comment doesn't belong here but I want to ask software developers for the following. There are hundreds of video converters, some free and some not so free. But even the most expensive ones can't provide the following feature: An automatic optimal conversion rate for a video file.
Let's say the original file is an AVI file with certain dimensions, a certain video and audio bit rate, etc etc. And let's say for some reason I want to convert this specific file to an MP4 file. The converter should provide me with the optimal conversion parameters to stay as close as possible to the quality of the original. By giving such parameters one avoids superfluous converting, making the file size needlessly larger.

looks good, but it's very lacking on the menus IMO

I would like to be able to have more than 3 titles on a page. Or if you can, it's not documented or shown very easily.

So looks like I'm going back to convertXtoDVD which I paid for and does exactly what I want.

will probably be uninstalled

I think that Wondershare is one of those vendors whose Giveaway "updates" and then expires itself, even if you turn off automatic checking. Be warned.

2. General comment, not particular to Wondershare: it would be a matter of courtesy towards users if the "Help" command, whether in a menu of a toolbar, would always indicate whether the help being invoked is local or online. It's enough to make users their hair out when selecting Help causes their browser to open unwittlingly. Some vendors (too few) do respect their users and provide this simple indication.

I'm missing smart encoding badly, i.e. if you have a MPEG file and want to cut it and then burn it to a DVD, it should only re-encode the altered region (exactly between next key frames) which will make encoding much faster and keep original quality.

As far as I know free AVIDEMUX and NERO can do the trick, why not yet Wondershare DVD creator 2.6.5?

Without this feature I'm sorry to say that I can't vote positively in spite of Wondershare being a well known Chinese enterprise.

Gave this a whirl and overall, for fairly basic but for the most part useful for quick and cheerful creation it does a very good job.

I found it easy to use and navigate and was able to add a custom sound track to accompany the main menu.

The initial set of templates was very small but if you go to their site there are another 5 sets that can be installed, which gives it a more rounded base, although it would be nice to have some ability to make your own.

Rendering won't be very quick and I don't think that it has any Nvidia or AMD optimisation and I could not determine whether it will use all cores.

$45.95 (£30.13) is a little excessive bearing in mind the crowded market space that this operates in and the lack of those little extra facilities that might make it stand out from the crowd a little more.

I installed this software version back in September here. I am now currently using it to burn my recently converted ITune Season series to dvd. This program is awesome and recommend it as each episode of my 4 Seasons of my series are now playable on my DVD/Recorder and my DVD player and anything else that the dvd disc is inserted. I used the previous giveaway here (Leawo Video converter) to convert each episode by the way. Since this is free again, grab it and hold on to it like I did because you don't know when you might need it.

I fully appreciatie the free giveaways...tried many and kept a few...but I need to ask...how many video converters and DVD burners does a person need ? There will be a list of freebies along with a misleading set of votes...how about something unique and useful. Still have a version of this from a while back that I never use. Just a thought that'll probably get moderated away as usual.
