^^Don't think you have to register. Click on the register tab @ top right and even though it has spaces to type in yr email & registration code, the product says "Audio Converter has been registered"

nice app. The free AVS audio converter prog I already had stopped working for no particular reason so this one is very welcome. Worked as described, no problems.

JJ - Run the activate.exe program included in the ZIP. If there isn't one, the program was activated automatically - you may need to restart it first.

Hi, all, would like to add my comments on downloads and Norton here even though it is not the giveawayoftheday. I help run office desktops, and deal with students and their viruses, trojans and whatnots...In the last 12 months, we've tried Kaspersky, Norton, Macfee, Norton, Avira, Bit Defender, Panda, A -square..U name it, probably we've tried it... In the end we settled for Bit Defender + Avira though AVG came a close second..Had over 4 computers crashed, but none since we installed Bit Defender and Avira as second checker..
I'm pleased to say that none of my GOTD downloads have given problems though I cant say the same of other freeware sites in general..so thumbs up here. I would also say in fairness that my protection programs allow me to choose whether to allow or deny access to the internet for any installation..
As a caution, those who are snug in their Norton or Mcafee should try scanning online with 2 or 3 other antivirus programs....they might not like what they see, but at least their systems would not crash out of the blue.
From Amy, someone who hates trojans like crazy

Hi Y'All - I have NEVER downloaded or installed any of the software on offer from GAOTD (I think it's pretty much all cr*p with better freeware available in most cases)....then why do you keep coming back?..I hear you ask....well....reading all the comments is my daily source of amusement + there are often some links, provided by the commenters, to software that IS actually useful.
But hey, what do I know? It sounds good.....it's FREEEE, go for it!

The GUI of Wondershare and Aimersoft look too similar not to be from the same company. Are they?
I guess the WMA files I have are protected. Neither Aimersoft Video Converter's audio converter nor Wondershare's Audio Converter will do what I want to do. I am stuck using my iPod for mp3's and another player for the WMA files I bought, unless I can find a program that will convert purchased WMA files to mp3-4 format.

(I am praying that BluRay will die so all my DVD's will be playable in the future!)

This converter has a serious lack of options. I suggest using Foobar (which is also an audio player - don't you think they'd know better than simple converters?).
MediaCoder should also be able to do this, but I've not tried doing only audio with it.

Phil (#31) - Audacity is open-source. There is no paid version of it, it's entirely free. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ If you paid for it (with the exception of getting it on CD - you pay the CD and S&H only IIRC), you likely got scammed.
As for Norton "being the best", it's actually losing ground. I've never heard any such rumours, so honestly I'm more tempted to believe you are trying to create that rumour.

However, I must note that AVG isn't any better (was rated as sub-par not too long ago, nevermind being 'regular' for a while) - I strongly suggest Avast if you want to do the free way.

#43 Please let's not get carried away. GAOTD and Wondershare are not being generous. This site exists for good, commercial reasons - NONE of them is generosity! We end-users do NOT owe GAOTD or Wondershare anything.

I appreciate the reviews here - when people stick to a proper review of the software they have actually tried. (Comments such as "looks good I'll try it" don't help anyone) I do not appreciate views berrating GAOTD or the sycophantic who think GAOTD can do no wrong.

In recent weeks I have found little to interest me here but I have no intention of criticising GAOTD - if WE don't owe them anything then it is equally true that they don't "owe" us anything either and we shouldn't get angry or upset just because GAOTD (which is a business) don't supply exactly what we think they should.

I shall keep checking out the site in the hope that one day there will be something I could use. This site is a great idea and sensible posts by those interested in reviewing the software rather than destructive comments about each other would be much appreciated

Thank you

Phil(#31): As a super-duper computer genius specializing in anti-virus protection, maybe you've noticed that PC Magazine is not the only source of information out there. And it's crammed full of advertisements for your beloved Norton AV. Ads that help keep the magazine afloat. As for your "rumors" - where did they come from? The National Enquirer? Try learning something on your own instead of believing everything you read and hear.

Downloaded and installed and activated ok, converted good. I went to my firewall and added this program to it to disallow it from accessing the internet. However when I installed it it caused the true vector service of zone alarm to crash and I had to restart it which is why I added to zone alarm to disallow it from accessing the internet, also zone alarm asked me if I wanted to allow windows explorer to access the internet to which I said no, and that is starnge it would ask me that because I already had disallowed windows explorer to access the internet through zone alarm long before I installed this wondershare audio converter. Whats up with all that!!!???

No FLAC support? So, the only lossless format is supports is WAV files? Kind of useless when you think about it, converting a lossy format to another lossy format (eg: from MP3 to M4A) results in an even more lossy file in the end.

Though it might be good for quick conversions if you don't care about the quality.

Thanks you so much GOTD and Wondershare for your great generosity once again. The interface is beautiful and look easy to use. Though this may not be as good as Audacity, but Wondershare most softwares that give away before have build up a good reputation and quality trust among us for past few weeks. e.g Photo Story , Scrapbook etc. (great softwares)

I just like to add the comment after trying the Aimersoft Video Converter gave away last week. Not only the conversion time is very long (take almost an hour to convert 1 standard avi movie e.g 700mb. There is not output for NTSC-DVD format, so when I try to convert a avi movie to their 'only' DVD format (Vob). After rip to a DVD disk, the other pc nor my home DVD player can't read at all. Anyone can advise as I don't wish to 'misjudge' Aimersoft before confirming? Thanks. For sure I am really appreciate what GOTD and all contributors for most of the free giveaway all along. Have a great day guys. :)

#5 Please be careful in what website addresses you post. It is NOT "audacity.com", it is actually http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

None of these programs are bad. Each has some feature I like and other features I currently don't need. That's what I like about GOTD, I can test it out for free and if I like, keep it if not I can remove it.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK GOTD TEAM!

Whenever someone is having trouble, the first thing I say is, "PLEASE don't tell me you have Norton installed!"

I have gained quite a reputation fixing computers by asking if I can do a few things, waving my hands, muttering incantations, and replacing Norton with AVG free. "Oh, yeah, and while I was at it, I updated your virus protection. This one has no annual fee..." :)

I don't like this converter at all.

1/ As #26 stated, the video converter by the same company can handle audio files and video as well. Why bother with this one, when it gives no more formats and advanced controls over produced files?

2/ The proximity between audio and video converters by aimersoft is so important that the interface never speaks about "audio" even in the AUDIO converter. It always says : "video"... Click here the pick the video to convert, crop videos... The settings window has even a whole greyed "video" portion.
Today GOTD is a scamped piece of software, so to say.

3/ I tried with some different mp3 files that I usually listen to. I don't why, but some open with no hitch whereas the others make the application freeze each time I try to load them.

4/ This converter doesn't support a lot of formats. If it can convert to ogg, it can only convert from mp3, wav, wma and m4a.
No support of real audio, neither as input nor output. It would have been really useful to be able to convert from real audio to mp3. I don't have the real one player (I don't want such crap on my computer) and real alternative sometimes fails to open ram audio.
Anyway.

5/ No shell integration for easy conversion.

All in one, it's not a good product, and compared to others aimersoft products this one is a sub-standard and clearly over priced.

Not a freeware but quite cheap, easy to use and really reliable, I will stick with dBpoweramp Music Converter. It performs all needed conversions - even in batch mode and can be invoked directly from the shell. With a price going from free (no mp3 support in this edition) to $28 (depending on the version you chose) it is even cheaper than the audio converter from aimersoft.

Thumbs down for this uninstalled one.

#5 Are you paying for this software? I use Audacity as well for trimming and effects for music files. But Audacity doesn't save in as many formats (At least the free version doesn't). # 10 hold on while I hold the door for you, so I can lock it on your un-gratefulness after you're gone. I'm running Norton 2007 and didn't get a single warning. And those of you who think Norton isn't the best out there, should try reading PC magazine once in a while.
Norton out distances the others by miles, and in over eight years of using it, not one virus has successfully attacked my system. PCcillan, AVG and the rest don't come close to having the number of support people tracking and locating new virus's in order to create the safeguards against them. It's rumored that some of the "Free" virus protectors are actually copying Nortons data base and new releases of file definitions, but sadly they're not copying them all.
Thanks again GAOTD for another nice program
