When converting MKV's or AVI's to DVD-NTSC I just get one large VOB which is useless to play in a standalone DVD player. I need it to convert to a proper NTSC DVD with the TS.IFO files etc. What am I missing here? I've tried this program before and deleted it because of this shortcoming.

Editing controls were terrible. No sound, can't get to a specific time in the video. There is no display to show the time in the video while playing in the edit screen. Totally useless. So glad I didn't pay for this.

Quickly downloaded.
Submitted to virustotal, metascan-online, and jotti... Virscan wasn't available, I don't know why.
Then submitted to Windows Defender, superantispyware free, Malwarebytes antimalware free, emsisoft emergency kit free, installed/portable programs on my PC.
Every scan was clean and didn't reported any virus so far, not even the setup.exe of giveawayoftheday.
No problem during the installation, no problem during the registration.
Enjoy it!

Installation kept hanging after selecting language. Message confirming activation appeared but nothing happened after that. No further messages appeared. Discovered AVG virus checker was blocking installation without saying so and switching it off allowed installation to go ahead wiithout any further problems. Hope this helps anyone else who cannot install.

The Last month or so, I installed Wondershare PDF Converter from GAOTD and my PC CPUs went crazy. Whatever SERVICES Wondershare installed on my PC, slowed my PC down to a CRAWL. While their software may be good, in which case, this one was not as it never converted anything to Word, instead it did so into a WordPad format.

I will NEVER use Wondershare software again.

IF YOU PC SLOWS AFTER INSTALLING THEIR SOFTWARE, you may find it very hard to find the culprit service or driver for it. Use REVO PRO to uninstall it so it gets everything. I did so and now it works fine.

In fact, Wondershare even turned on my REMOTE SERVICES, which is a NO-NO.

I bought the lifetime version. Mostly used for DVD conversion to mp4 (h264). Very fast. Incorporates GPU processing. I formally used Xmedia Recode. While that has some options this offer doesn't, conversion was often faulty, and had audio sync issues.

My only wish is the ability to edit/rename/delete custom profiles. I have too many duplicates.

Best of the breed.

I went to the webpage and the first page shows Windows 10, but tech specs does not. It only shows Windows 8. Is this program compatible with Windows 10? I sure hope so, because it is a feature filled program that I would like to try out. I'm glad I checked it out more because I thought it was just a converter, but apparently it can also rip DVD's from the program as well.

I installed with ease, but do not see "DVD Ripper" as a function. Your statement: "WonderFox DVD Video Converter is a total media tool that supports users to rip dvd, convert video, download youtube video, edit video, etc." is misleading, since there is no DVD rip as a choice. This appears to be only a converter. I have used this a few years ago, and it is a good converter.

Perhaps Ken is looking for an option to rip to ISO image and cannot find it? That is always my preference for saving video in it's highest possible quality, as a starting point.

Mpeg2 to 'basic' mp4 not h265. Very sloooow here = approx half real time (1 hour takes 2 hours to convert).

Installation was easy, setting was easy, test converting mp4 to vob: all went well, setting the aspect ratio did even work in dvdvob...
However; The problems with settings connected to other outputfileformats (like wmv) seems to be still there; Tried to convert the same file with WMV VBR medium setting to 720x576 (Original is a 1920x1080 mp4 4 minute clip) 110 mb. Analyzing took a very long time analyzing and it changed the outputfilesize from an estimated 38 mb to 182Mb. When cancelling and reviewing the settings, the settings were different from what i set earlier. Reapplied the settings (720x576), and shortened the clip to 1:14 ; got an outputfile in 1938x1074 pixels. Tried it again in wmv vbr medium, 2 minute clip should be 74 MB in 720x480, it produced a 150MB file: same problem.
Tried a third clip, wmv with constant bitrate. Went wrong again, size was Ok now (720x576) but cropping and aspect ratio were not set.... black areas all over...

The problems with the interface are also still stere: you can convert in batch, but you can set only one outputfileformat for all. (you can´t convert the same file to a different format (compatible to your other mobile devices) in one go). After a hopefull beginning a bit of a disappointment afterwards.

So, nothing changed here; Ive tested wondersoft converters 4 times now, and I never kept them, this one won´t make it either. B.t.w take notice that after conversion the sound is louder...

This is an excellent video converter which, to my surprise, claims to be able to up convert to 4k from lower res files. I can't evaluate this claim because I don't have any display capable of displaying 4k videos but given the general quality of this software, I tend to believe the claim. For sure, these 4k files are big.

In addition to the expected minor editing function, this also has a series of pre-set special effects. I use a converter after ripping my DVD's or BD's to an MKV so as to convert the MKV to an MP4 for playing on my iPhone or iPad.

Being these are commercial productions, I don't see any use for these pre-sets but maybe those who are in production or doing home videos will find these special effects a nice add.

Overall a very solid product which converts very quickly. In the time I took to write this review at 50 wpm, the converter got to 50% conversion of a 110 minute (play time) MKV file into a MP4.

Reply   |   Comment by paul  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Not saying anything for or against this Wonderfox app, you don't want to use software up-convert any video frame size or resolution if you can help it. Whatever hardware you use to watch the video should handle it just fine, & do a better job of it, though your mileage may vary depending on how far you're up-scaling & the brands/models of hardware involved. A common example, most all Blu-Ray players will play DVDs, & most people watching them on their 1080p HDTV have little or no complaints, because while it's not Blu-Ray quality, the hardware up-scaling is surprisingly good.

RE: MKV files vs. mp4, please remember that those are just containers. If you want to convert the actual video, change it's encoding format or frame size, that's fine & good. If you just need a different container for player compatibility, Do Not do a full conversion -- just copy the video out of one container into another. There's no way to re-encode without quality loss.

I have a box of dvds purchased when in London, now in the US they fail to run. will this converter remove or override the locking system?

Reply   |   Comment by Spam Sorenson  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

To run these DVDs in the first place, so that a DVD Ripper can actually copy it, you have to change your DVD drives settings to Region 2 (Europe). After your computer can play the movies the ripper can copy it.

You can change your DVD drives region settings up to five times, after that the drive is locked to the last region.

Reply   |   Comment by Spiritogre  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+17)

In the US broadcast video is NTSC, while many other parts of the world use something else, generally PAL. It's not such a big deal with HD, but your video DVDs from England are probably PAL. If so, the easiest way to play them would probably be using a PC or laptop, either changing the region as Spiritogre suggests, or using something like Passkey or AnyDVD.

Converting PAL DVD &/or broadcast video to the US NTSC version [& the reverse] is something that's best done with a specialized, expensive converter box, so you don't want to go that route. You can use WonderFox DVD Video Converter [encoding to AVC/H.264 or 265], but you'll have to pay attention to frame sizes -- PAL & NTSC use different frame sizes, so it would be easy to get the wrong aspect ratio, *if* that matters to you. You'd want to keep everything as PAL, which on a PC, laptop, tablet, or cell shouldn't matter.

If you want to watch the video on a [HD]TV OTOH you *may* have to change the fps, depending on the player you use. Hopefully not, but there are not a lot of people in the US trying to watch PAL video on a [HD]TV, so there's not a lot of info out there on what works & what doesn't. Film is 24 fps, NTSC is 29.976, & PAL is 25 fps. If you have frame rate related problems you *might* have to set the video to report to the player it's 24 fps -- you don't want to actually convert the fps -- and you *might* have to time stretch the audio to match the new time duration.

the very very first screen (that tiny one) has a dropdown where you can change Deutsch to English. I don't see how anyone can miss that unless they are mindless "ok, ok, ok" clickers

Reply   |   Comment by Mavadelo  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-7)

I will agree with the minority here in that at no point did I ever see a language selection screen during the installation process (but mine did install in English).
What I saw (old XP SP3 system):
1. "Please wait while Setup is loading..." along with "verifying installer:" (with a percentage constantly updating itself-nothing to click on here; just sit and wait)
2. Welcome screen ("This wizard will guide you through the installation...." and so forth) (buttons to click on are "Next" and "Cancel")
3. "Licence Agreement" screen
4. "Choose Install Location" screen (buttons to choose from are ""Back", "Install" and "Cancel" not to mention the "Browse" button to choose a different destination as the installation folder)
Where is the before-mentioned Language selection?

Oh, and to disable the auto update check, this seemed to work for me:
In the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\{your username here}\My Documents\WonderFox Soft\WonderFox DVD Video Converter" open the file "se001.ini" & change the "Updata" number from a "1" to a "0"
Of course, that will be in a different location on later operating systems (User folder I think? Maybe "Users>{your username here}>My Documents>WonderFox Soft\WonderFox DVD Video Converter")

A very straight forward installation and registration, opened up to my favourite GUI for video converters. Find the output selection interface by far the easiest on my old eyes.

A quick conversion test on an AVI video to WEBM worked well on the first occasion, subsequent conversions failed whatever the output type selected.
Closed and reopen the program did same test without any problem, no idea why original problem occurred.
Tested converting DVD to MP4 without any difficulty.

Look forward to this company's software mainly because of the interface, however one other aspect I particularly like is that if a conversion is cancelled it does not remove the partial video.
The partial video can be played and so to check the quality of the output, I often cancel and then check the quality before doing a full conversion.

This is probably going to become my video converter of choice, a keeper.

Hi Wonderfox and thanks for the great Giveaway!

I think the video converter is great, but i'm having real trouble with doing a conversion for Sony PSP. I've tried your program before and the same problem persist with this version also. The PSP shows the video as "Unsupported format".

I've tried all the PSP conversion settings (doing short test conversions to check if i'd be able to pinpoint the problem), but no such luck. I've also tried the custom settings (MP4 and H264) without any difference.

Otherwise the program works as and has a lot of functionality, but this PSP conversion would be essential to me.

As a comparison i'm able to convert to PSP with other products, but yours would have the additional functionality and speed of conversion which i'd like to be able to enjoy!

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for trying to help. I've already tried it as you've described, and did try it again. The only difference i can get by using either .H264 or .MP4 is that with the former the PSP shows "Unsupported format" and with the latter it says "The video can't be played".

The program contains ready made presets for PSP which i've also tried (Sony / PSP).
I have the PSP 3000 model.

I also tried taking the settings directly from a video that does play (a one that's been converted with a different program, an earlier Giveaway offering) and used them with Wonderfox DVD Video Converter, but nothing changed :/

I think there's something extra or "odd" with the output that results with videos that don't play with PSP. Overall the settings in Wonderfox are quite simple, and easy to understand so i doubt there's something i'm missing.

Any other ideas i could try? Does anyone else have this problem, or perhaps the PSP is such an obsolete item that most people have little use for such conversion?

I purchased WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro a while back and absolutely love it! What is the main difference between the two programs?

Hi KK,thanks for your support. :) Well, your WonderFox DVD Ripper Pro is a specialized DVD tool. But WonderFox DVD Video Converter is more than that. It can also be used as a video and audio converter, online video downloader (download video from YouTube)...More functional features. :p It's worth a try.

To GOTD users,
We want to say thank you to all users here. There're actually so many video converters, DVD rippers and YouTube downloaders here in the market, with similar user interface and functions.

Regular users may spend much time finding out the right one or still can't figuring out which is better. One of the most important reason is, the update service support of many likewise software has ended, as they can't keep pace to the newest DVD decryption and video converting technology.

But with all your support, WonderFox Soft can move on. And also because of you guys, we have great passion for what we believe. We have been working on the products and making improvements as always. Thank you again!
