#77, john, I have a license for VideoReDo TVSuite (like most software I purchase, it was at a discount). As far as I know, the betas function like normal 15-day trials if you don't have a license. That also means that if you use one and it expires, and you try a newer beta, it will probably also be expired. So basically you get a chance to try the software to see if it suites your needs. I don't remember whether the trial versions have restrictions, I've been using various licensed versions of VideoReDo for years, since Windows Media Center and most DVR applications will produce files with errors. Usually, that's not a big deal if you're viewing the file live, although sometimes it is, and it can screw up writing to DVD. Vista was initially released with a defective Media Center, in typical Microsoft fashion, which had errors at the beginning of the file which even VideoReDo couldn't fix. Since video files are huge, I would have had to use other software to copy only the beginning of the file and send it to the VideoReDo developer, which wasn't practical at the time. Now, there are temporary file hosts on the Internet which can handle large files. An FFmpeg-based DVR-MS to MPEG converter was able to handle those errors, so that's what I used until Microsoft fixed the problem. As I stated earlier, the guy who develops VideoReDo isn't the greatest programmer, so it could be better, but most of the time it works well enough for my needs, and I've never had to go through all of the convolutions which mike always talks about with other software.

While it may support mpeg containers, it has a hell of a time with many audio and video codecs IN those containers. Really, "including HD"? Um, not when the vast majority of what is true HD (1080p) is in x264. No DTS/DDHD/DDHT support? There goes BBC/Discovery, National Geographic, ABC, NBC, CPS, FOX, KBS, CNC, most Japanese stations.... basically, any over-air broadcast, picked up from OA antenna, cable, satellite, wherever.
For all the claims of who is best in these, honestly, very basic ultra-entry-level programs, why pay all this extra money for LESS tools?
VirtuaDubMod can handle anything this can, and most of what it can't.

Here's a picture of the VideoReDo interface, editing a high-definition DVR-MS file, with a few options shown (1920x1440). The blue graph indicates audio level and type. Not in the picture, at the beginning of the show, it's possible to tell where the station changed from 2-channel to 5.1-channel audio (they did it a bit late). Here's the VLC media information for the edited output, showing that VideoReDo edits AC3 fine (as long as you just edit and don't alter the audio).

#36, Bad One: timeline, display multiple frames, (potential) commercial identification, graphical display of audio levels, etc., VideoReDo has all of that. Also, you can use freeware and shareware commercial identifiers and cutters, such as Comskip (free), ShowAnalyzer ($30), and others.

I found that even though I finally have the program installed, it would not run under Windows normal mode. XPPRO SP3. Every time I ran the program, it would freeze and then open multiple instances of the program until my CPU was locked at 100% and the program AND the computer stayed frozen. I restarted the computer in SAFE mode and ran the program. It worked perfectly (the way it was supposed to in normal mode) and I was able to effortlessly edit a movie. The saved movie looked professionally edited and it was impossible (almost) to tell that it was altered in any way when I played it back in normal mode. So, all in all, I have an editing program available for use as long as I want to boot into safe mode to use it. Better than nothing. However, it does what it is advertised to do, in safe mode only. Thanks WOMBLE for the program and GAOTD for the offering.

Just because I am curious, I reinstalled the program. When I could not get past the serial number screen, I restarted the computer in safe mode with networking enabled. The program serial number screen then worked normally and I entered the serial number and the program was registered. So, if you have been having all the many problems listed in other comments above, try safe mode. It worked for me.

#33, #45, mike, VideoReDo was never designed to be a general-purpose video editor. It's specifically designed for fixing errors and editing video from DVR's and DVR applications. I'm certainly not a die-hard fan, I've even gotten after the programmer for bad coding, but it does no good to tell people that they need to improve their skills. Maybe Womble can't edit AC3 correctly, but VideoReDo can, it does so correctly without screwing up synchronization, and unlike what you claim, it has frame-accurate editing (anywhere, not just "trimming the ends") and only re-encodes around edit points unless you specify something which requires more re-encoding. The current version can edit but not alter AC3, it's not licensed for AC3 encoding. If I have time, I may post screenshots later, I can't right now because my computer's busy and my crappy nVidia drivers (or possibly something else in Vista) have flaked out again, preventing captures until I reboot. Anyone can verify that VideoReDo works by downloading it as a trial, unless you've done so before and exceeded your trial time. As I've stated, the betas are generally much newer than the released versions.
