Downloaded and deleted so-called safe reistry values. Had nothing but problems ever since. Recommend not to use. Eaz-Fix saved me.

I tried it, seemed to work ok i suppose. Then I used "reg seeker" (free..used it for years) it did a better job...and faster. Seems this program cant find uninstalled reg items on my pc. back to the trusted reg seeker and CCleaner for me.
thank goodness this was a giveaway..I would have been very depressed if I paid money for this.
my 2 bits..ty again give away team

#41: I disagree. Why should we download and use a program that does absolutely nothing useful, but can and probably will harm your system? Comparing pest and cholera doesn't make sense. All reg cleaner are bad programs, and comparing their ease of use or the beautifulness of their interface has absolutely no sense. Don't use any of them if you want to be on the safe side. Dot.

It is surprising how easily people can be persuaded that the system has been improved without doing a serious benchmark test. OK, when we install a program, we want to be persuaded that it works and is useful. So are the human beings. But the reality is different. If you are programmer and you know exactly how the registry works, you can't trust the hoaxes!

To me, Wise Registry Cleaner 3 Pro is a great program, well worth trying. My system: XP SP2; 700MHz processor; 512 MB RAM; 16GB of used disk space.

The registry scan took 9 minutes. Under Components Subsystem I checked only Invalid Paths; I checked everything else but IE URL History, which I figured would take forever. I didn't know that was even in the registry.
40 minutes for me to check the list of registry problems
5 minutes to remove entries marked as safe to remove

These items were found (but about 30-40 were marked as possibly unsafe to remove; although some were only because they were references to a path on a removable disk and probably OK to remove, I didn't remove them this time):
Invalid Paths (302)
Software Section - All User (435); Current User (173)
Application Paths (12)
File Types (204)
Help Files (2)
Shared DLL (38)
User MRU Lists (338)
Uninstall Section (51)
Start Menu (46)
Most of this was for MS Office, which I removed from my system about a week ago--many I wouldn't have known to remove because they are listed under a Windows Installer path. There were also some entries for a few other programs I had removed and for ActiveX files.

If I had tried to remove all of these manually, it would have taken me 3-4 hours. Even though the majority were easy to recognize, I could have spent even more time agonizing over which entries it was OK to remove and probably would have left a LOT of them that were safe to remove. I consider myself an intermediate user in some areas and advanced in some software applications, but I try not to mess with the registry.

Sorry I didn't get a chance earlier in the day to try it and give a review. Maybe this will help some of you decide whether to try it.

GOTD Team,
You all are doing a great job. I would love to be a fly on the wall to see how you decide what is next. :)

To all of the great users, (and not-so-great), most of us know what the dangers are with ANY reg cleaning utility.
If you are just an average user, (an average user is someone who runs applications from their desktop, but does not explore the processes that they use, nor do they explore the system hidden files or even the folders they are in, nor do they read and understand any of the windows updates that are downloaded), any reg cleaning program is NOT for you.
However, if you are the type of user who has built their own system, (as I have many times), and who does explore all of the above and beyond, then a reg cleaning utility will come in handy.
You see, one reason to use such a program is to take care of a bad/faulty install. A utility like this will allow the knowledgeable user to go in and surgically remove keys and other values that may have gotten corrupted for what ever reason.
I did install this program on an XP sp2 system and it seemed to run fine. As I already have utilities that perform this function, I chose not to keep it. But as I said, it seemed to run fine.
The bottom line is, if you cannot answer the question, "What is a .cab file?", then you probably do not have enough know-how to use a reg cleaner. Try a simple defrag on your hard-drive, or remove some stuff out of your start up tray if your windows is slowing down. Just about every computer I see now days has WAY to much in the start up.
If you are not using it CONSTANTLY every time you are on the system, then it does NOT need to auto start on boot up. This little trick will help to get your system running/booting up a little quicker.
As for todays offering, two thumbs up GOTD. Thank you again for your work.

Excellent program. I installed this on 3 different computers (all XP pro) and on two of them, the computer booted faster and seemed to work faster overall. The best part was the third computer - the keyboard had stopped working and I hooked up a second keyboard and it didn't work either. I tried the registry pgms I already had (the mouse was still working) but couldn't fix it - so had planned to take the computer to the shop tomorrow. Figured it was a corrupted or lost driver but am not savvy enough to know what else to do to fix it. Guess what - I ran this pgm today and suddenly the keyboard is working again. I didn't tweak any settings - just did the registry backup as instructed and then deleted only the items that were checked off and green-lighted. Highly recommended!
