Wirechanger blew away my active desktop web content and even after uninstall I still can't get it to show up. I'm searching in security policies, event viewer, registry, all manner of settings. The computer *thinks* the stuff is displaying. It's all checked on in display properties. I even tried creating a new item without any luck. No web content on the desktop. Not webpages, not url linked images, not local files either. Not even tablet edition's power toy "Ink Desktop" is working! I've written WiredPlane today and await to see if they respond.

This program is telling me it needs to be registered? However when I go into preferences it IS registered under Giveawayoftheday. Help?

Ive been playing with this all day, Someone says the icons are cluttering the desktop, Than dont display the icons, use the desktop display at the bottom.They say its slowing down the computer and using too many rescources, Well duuuhhhh if you dont have the rescourses to download the program get a bigger computer or dont download all sorts of stuff in it(I have 1 gb of memory and this program works great).Another said he needed to turn off the computer to turn off things like calander and games, On mine all I had to do was change the wallpaper and the next one has the settings change on it.Another used webshots over this, no way would I. I used webshots for a few months and it was full of spyware.PERSONALLY THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PROGRAMS AND SMOOTH RUNNING IVE GOTTON SO FAR.THANX GAOTD

I use and depend on WireKeys now, so I had to try WireChanger and to my delight, it is wonderful. There are so many wallpapers to choose from, from their site, and they are so quick to download. It is very easy to delete things off the screen that you don't want, I took the calendar off and the box with the sayings in it.

I used to use Webshots too, but I will keep using Webshots for the screensaver now, and will permanently use WireChanger for my backgrounds.

Yep a stunning bit of software - don't know why so many people have to complain. If you don't want it, uninstall it, end of.

It was the calendar with reminders which attracted me to this software so I downloaded and installed with no problems. I've been playing about with it for several hours without any problems whatsoever. I don't normally like to have a cluttered desktop and with this you don't have to. Notes, quotes, clock, calendar, small picture window etc, can all be turned on or off very easily so the desktop doesn't have to be cluttered with the bits you don't want.

A nice piece of software which I like very much. Thanks to WiredPlane Labs and GAOTD for this.

I was waiting for Bladed Thoth's review to come our before I made any decisions on this - because the software (to me,) sounded as if it had the potential to be imperfect and screw something up for me.

Despite all the glowing "Wow, this is just what I was looking for! Thanks, GOATD!" type comments even before they've tried the product(!) this time I'm more inclined to go with those that chose to pass on today's offer.

I'd like to thank Wired Plane Labs for returning to us with another product to review. :) I have Wire Keys installed and I'm very happy with its performance and functionality - thank you!

Ok good but www.magentic.com and www.webshots.com are great and free too webshots offers desktop calendar overlay also and totally customizable magentic is my favored desktop wallpaper changer 9every 15 minutes)

I'm sorry if you really did have a fire but you're kidding, right?? A screensaver is a dangerous application??? NOT!!!

I love the potential of the program but I had to uninstall it because I made the mistake of opening a couple of the games and then couldn't get them off my desktop, even when I shut down the program...which turned out to be the only way I could remove some of the options like the calender and the notepad. Really good potential but still needs work, at least to work on my computer. (Win xp home)

I have used wirechanger in it's free version where you upload images to it's data base in return for a time without nag screens. It works really well and has effects you can use that are unusual and that I haven't found elsewhere. Blending of pictures together to create a new picture is awesome. Thank you GAOTD.

Some of the suff is good, some of it's not, but they try to please everyone... and I'll tell ya, just a few of the proggies I've gotten here are well worth wading through the stuff I don't want or need. There is certainly no reason to complain, about anything they give away... the words 'give away' being most important. I for one appreciate very much that this site is here, and that people are willing to try to get cool stuff out to us... it can't be easy trying to get all this stuff free! So, I take what I want, leave the rest, and thank you very much GOTD for all your hard work and effort!

Good program. Runs smoothly and it is exacly what I was I was waiting for. I can set images to time intervals I want. Very happy with this one. Thanks GOTD!

i use widgets from yahoo...better looking and uses less resources on my xp box

this is not a screensaver guys......(it has a screensaver though)
it is one of the best programs for your desktop, try before you give positive or negative reviews.

A bit kludgey, but pretty powerful and not a system hog considering what it does. Pretty nifty.

Nah, I will pass on that up because it is all about system running up the CPU memory processes. I know anyone would love to have that because it is so KOOL! It's a fine bit of software; adds some nice widgets to the desktop without using a lot of resources. This is a keeper. Now if they only had a weather radar widget.

Splendid. Wanted this for years. Very handy for office work. Just add reminders on the desktop and delete when done.

Man people gripe a lot. A) It's free. B) If you don't like it, don't download it. Sheesh. C) These people (GAOTD) don't "owe" us good software. We're lucky we get a good one once in a while. Just be happy they give anything away free at all.

@Gary/#15 - What we get on this GAOTD site is free, as long as we get it during the single day the offer holds.
But this is an offer to temporarily get for free a *commercial* product. The programs are commercial, and normally sold for money, and we even have the normal price presented here.
It is perfectly fine to judge them as a commercial program with the given price, and not as freeware. It is even recommended, since it provides more value for people who read these reviews after the giveaway day has passed.
Hey, it even provides more value to the companies selling the programs, who may want user opinions on how they rate in their regular "category" of commercial programs sold for a certain price.

Not really for me but that's no big deal - thanks anyway.

This is a nice add on with what seems to be some expansion capabilities via the site and software. Downloading and installing went without a hitch. This looks like something that I will be keeping on my computer. This comments section seems to be mixed with comments on another piece of software, so I will specify that I am commenting on Wire Changer.

Not for me, it doesn't fit my needs.

I looked at the WireChanger page on the web site of WiredPlane Labs and must admit it does have plenty of features. And plenty of add-on's and extras that can be downloaded to add even more functionality or 'fun'.

However, one look at the screenshots page, and all I can think of is 'clutter'. But, I like my desktop clean and uncluttered, so I stepped away from these kind of programs and widget-like stuff (that always seem to contain weather news, random quotes, stock, news or have system performance meters) a long time ago.

I now rather like to have different desktops, divided into specific tasks to perform (work, games, internet, video editing, etc.). I use the freeware program Dexpot for that (since it has more features than Microsoft's Virtual Desktop Manager). Where each desktop (you can configure up to 20 different virtual desktops) can have it's own screen resolution (and color depth), it's own sets of icons (or even no icons at all), it's own set of (desktop) programs (like widget-programs or the wonderful Rainlendar) and it's own hotkeys (for changing from one desktop to another) and some extra features for window management (for instance; any icon or active program can be moved or copied to any other virtual desktop at any given moment).

Working with virtual desktops, it can keep the desktop(s) clean and uncluttered. I like that way of working better than programs that try to fit anything and everything into one desktop.

I won't vote against or in favor of WireChanger, though. Other people might like this solution to perform certain tasks and since I haven't installed and used WireChanger I can't say anything about it's performance or stability.

A lot of ways to change your desktop. So in a scale from 0-10 I give the program 8 points.

First of all, I second the idea that only those who have activated the product should be able to post comments ON THE SOFTWARE. Too bad some people don't use spell-check. Even then, spell-check doesn't correct grammar. Sad.

I use Webshots, so I didn't need this. I figured I would download and see what it was like, just out of curiosity. It looked quite interesting, until it put up a screen that appeared to be a manager for the display. However, no matter where on it you clicked, it was simply a link in disguise that opened a new window for Screensavers.com which my spysweeper promptly blocked and informed me that the site is well know for spyware. SHAME on you!! Then it forced an error and had to close. Go figure. Could've been an interesting utility, but that did it for me. No thanks.

Nice one GAotD and Wiredplane Labs. Now I can cycle all those amazing animated wallpapers that Elfun give away every day (thanks WhiteRabbit for the heads up on that one, where are you, I've not seen you around for a while?) Although they are giving away screensavers at the moment.

Nice utility, Definatly something I would consider as a "startup" app, There is not much I would allow otherwise due to it cloggin up the system... useful and fun at the same time.. Not overbloated either so it won't totally chug your system to a crawl.

Since I don't need to constantly change my wallpaper, and I don't need the widgets, I uninstalled it. Explorer generated a couple of exceptions. The uninstallation completed, but left a bit of a mess in the registry.

This is very cool, thank you very much. Nice eye candy, installs easily, is easy to configure and is free. It's my birthday today, and this is a nice present!

Uses very little system resource, but doesn't seem to be very stable. It seems to reset settings for no reason.
