Answer to 63'th number comment by Thomas.
Perhaps your problem may be caused by trying to make crack. I recommend you to use WinUtilities as follows:
Start + All Programs + Winutilities + (Not "WinUilities", becouse it is the main screen) Utilities + The utility you wish to run.
if you cannot pass, other utilities from the program's main screen, I think this will help you. (Sorry if my English isn't enough.)

Easy install just followed the text file instructions and after it was installed it came up saying there was an update and as stated early on in the Forum to just run the update, so I did and again everything is working just fine and is still registered. I haven't tried all the available tools but the ones I've tried work very good and I would say this would be a highly recommended program for any one, Beginner or Pro, It comes with a lot of utilities that are useful to anyone that's browsing the internet. I have a P-4 @ 3.4 Ghz 4 gig of Ram 2 200gig HD's with a 1 TB external HD. Running Windows XP Pro. Thank You Very Much for another fine Product for Free! Thanks, Rick.

Wow ... I'm impressed! Installed WinUtilities Pro and updated to v9.7 with no problem (XP SP3 32). I thought I had a fairly clean registry on my 2-yr-old system since I use Comodo Registry Cleaner fairly regularly. Comodo's cleaner also finds a class of errors they call "Unsafe Entries" which they strongly recommend you DO NOT delete. I have 273 of these errors on my machine. I decided to try a registry cleanup test with CCleaner (CC), Comodo Registry Cleaner (CRC) & WinUtilities Pro (WUP). These tools look for different categories of errors in some instances so the comparison is not exactly apples-to-apples.

CC's performance was pathetic ... only finding 2 registry errors.

CRC found 31 errors (along with my accumulated 273 "Unsafe Entry" errors).
WUP found 44,708 errors! Yikes!

Wow, what a surprise. Since WinUtilities is a new tool for me, at first I was reluctant to delete that many registry entries at one time. However, the WUP backup & recovery options seemed sound so I decided to rerun the WUP test separately on each of the 11 error categories. Most of the errors (43,515) were in the "Systems Settings" category. I used the default Create Restore Point for each of the 11 error categories. These are not System Restore Points but WUP Restore Points. I recommend not messing with the Unused Language and Time Zone Codes. When I deleted some unused Time Zone Codes it gave an unfamiliar display in the Date & Time panel, but it was easy to restore that particular backup since I had cleaned each error category separately.

I then ran CRC again ... and found only 5 errors. In addition, it seems like WUP eliminated 9 of my 273 "Unsafe Entries". I was hoping it would eliminate more of those.

Eliminatimg nearly 45,000 registry entries should free up some space. I then ran WUP's Registry Defrag (9% fragmented) to shave over 8 MB and reduce registry size to about 81 MB.

#57, Download and save the install file, run the previous version of Win Utilities to clean out your temp files, then install. I have to do this each time I install anything from here. No clue what causes this..

I currently have this app on my computer from a previous giveaway.
How long is the license for?

I assume that if I want this offer I need to uninstall my current version of WinUtilities Pro v9.7 and install todays GOTD (to receive another free license)?

Thanks
btw this is a great GOTD, Thanks!

Indeed I have updated my older version for free; it does seem like we'll get a lifetime upgrades for free. Nice. I'm interested in its DiskDefragmenter module. It looks faster than others offered for free. The thing is, it's output is pure text and its performance can't be easily compared with others. Later, I'll get to test its other features and compare with those I have tested in the past. Thanks YL Computing and GAOTD for this nice giveaway!

I ran the History Cleaner under the Privacy & Security Module.

After executing it, I found that the History in Google Chrome is still undeleted.

Is there any setting I have to make anywhere to get the Google Chrome History deleted by the History Cleaner?

Thank you.

Setup results in an error for me saying that the folder is being used by another process?!? Maybe AnVir Task Manager or Process Lasso? Either way I can't install. I have used WU in the past and it worked well except for the fact that it placed 3 or 4 icons in my taskbar. I liked it best about 2 years ago. Thought I'd give it a try again, but guess I'm out of luck.

I had the previous GOTD WinUtilities (v. 9.44), and installed v.9.7 on top of it via the "upgrade", per advice above.

But the registration information now has "Registered to Giveawayoftheday" greyed out, and "Change Registration Key" active. My copy is shows as a 31-day trial.

Any way to register this without un-installing and re-installing?

Thx!

You have downloaded and installed the wrong software.

Remove that software as it serves no purpose and download the correct file from their site. It is called Win-utilities.

1st off a small caution installing WinUtilities Pro 9.6/9.7... Checked out & monitored in XP Pro SP3 32, installation put 2 files in Windows' system folder that it shouldn't, plus added & registered with Windows 2 files that might cause problems with ATI's Catalyst Control Center [part of their driver setup]. The commonly used file: gdiplus.dll, is present (in several different versions) in 61 program folders on this PC -- by adding a copy to the system folder (which by default gets precedence or priority) rather than the WinUtilities folder, that's 61 apps that potentially now have a problem. The file: unicows.dll, also copied to the system folder, is already present (again different versions) in 30 program folders on this system. Newer versions of 2 files also added to Windows' system folder: wbhelp2.dll & wbocx.ocx, are installed with ATI's graphics driver as part of their Catalyst Control Center app. Those 4 files installed as they are do not guarantee problems, but the potential for bugs cropping up in other, previously installed apps is there -- myself, I elected to move the 1st 2 into WinUtilities' program folder, & use the newer ATI versions of the other 2. Including those 4 files, setup.exe includes 25 files for Windows' system folder, & 23 are older than current XP versions, though it did not overwrite any existing files for me. InstallWatch Pro reports 805 registry entries added, 92 updated [modified]. A portable version is available in the developers' forum [http://www.ylcomputing.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3], though by portable they mean no install needed -- not that it won't write to the registry -- & monitoring today's GOTD install showed several entries modified that were originally created by the portable version.

With that out of the way, I think utility suites, like WinUtilities, belong in the *As Seen On TV* category -- NOT that they don't work, but for the promises marketing makes. ;-) As a reality check, please remember that for every user running one of these utilities [or utility suites], there are millions (perhaps billions) who don't & are perfectly happy that way [or as happy as one can be with their PC/laptop] ;-). WinUtilities includes something for everyone, from the relative novice who wants a one-click fix to optimize/enhance/repair their PC/laptop, to more experienced users wanting to monitor processes. As long as you can & are willing to reinstall a disk/partition image backup [& as long as they don't include mal-ware], like most all software there's no danger to even the most inexperienced users, & WinUtilities might help -- it does work & can fix &/or optimize things. The chief danger, as reported often enough on GOTD, is that in using the Registry &/or Disk Cleaners, &/or the Duplicate Files Finder, you'll delete something that your installed software [including Windows] needs.

Disk Defrag is as useful as most other defragging software -- they pretty much all use the same Windows api, the difference being how or if they relocate files or folders to the faster portions of your hard drive. Likewise there are several alternatives to Startup Cleaner, the best known perhaps being AutoRuns from SysInternals [part of Microsoft], which remove or relocate registry entries &/or shortcuts in the Start Menu's Startup folder -- most of any difference is in the GUI, as deleting/moving a registry entry or shortcut happens the same, whether you do it manually or using software. Personally I find myself more often changing services a program added, from automatic to manual, so it starts when/if needed rather than all the time. Apps like the History Cleaner are good, If you don't use things like the Last Opened list in your apps, or the recently used program list in the Start Menu. Memory optimizers *should* be useless, but as some users always point out, with some [probably poorly written or broken] apps they help. Before you use Registry Backup, there are 2 things you need to know -- in Vista & 7 you're better off using System Restore, because both OSes store the current state in more places than just the registry, And, always ask yourself: "what happens if Windows won't start"? The 1st can cause you grief, but the 2nd is by far the more serious. You can check out ERUNT, which can restore the registry from a command prompt [read the docs that come with it], but directly to the point, realize that every time the registry's changed there's a definite possibility that Windows won't start -- DON"T assume that since you used Registry Backup&Restore you're covered no matter what you do.

In a nutshell, if you can deal with the potential installation issues [1st paragraph], I don't see any real problems with using WinUtilities, assuming you like/want/need one or more of the features included. It's often commented that you can do better with individual software tools, & since that's what I normally do, I can't fairly say how WinUtilities ranks compared to similar utility suites on the market, but as a fairly complete package that's been around a while, I will say you could do worse.

It's true, after you install it will say that there's an upgrade to 9.7. Unlike a lot of other software on GOTD that will expire your copy of said program as soon as you update, this one "WinUtilities Pro 9.6" lets you update to the latest version.

Thanks GOTD. Saves $50.00 that I would have never spent.

Doesnt work on win98se.

Installation warns of old windows version, expects neweer version, cannot install some files. It completes its installation then...

It can not run the prog. The .exe cannot run, missing files, missing linked dll's etc.

In their specs it says win98 compatible. Yeah Right! DId they actually try it on several win98 systems ??

Just in case people reading this page don't understand what the Americans (USA'ns) are saying, they're advising you to check the line during installation referring to the Ask Toolbar, by looking at it, by examining it, and then to untick it. Assuming you don't want yet another toolbar in your browser.

The expression came from the process of 'checking off' items on a list with a tick, and once again the Yanks shortened and corrupted it.
So remember, remove the tick from the Ask Toolbar line if you don't want to install it too.

I'm running a Promotional Full Release WinUtilities Pro V 9.44 on Win 7 - 64 bit Home Premium. Everything functions very well.

It's a compilation of some familiar utilities or equivelants that can be found elsewhere, but I've had trouble with most others in 64bit.

This one works without any problems and all the goodies are launched from a single interface. The Win 7 64 bit compatibilty probably makes it worth the retail price. If you had just XP32 there is plenty of free alternatives out there, some fee ones appear to be the same things in individual apps.

The WinUtilities Pro process manager will list, monitor, and selective kill processes, but will NOT reset priority or manage resource hogs - other than you just killing them. Room for improvement there - I recommend using a better process manager if you are prone to processes hogging up your machine and want better control, but other than that it has a nice complete set of tools.

Thanks to You, Giveaway of the Day !

Thanks to GAOTD and the OEM for the concept and opportunity.

I know utilities are pretty heavily scrutinized here, especially since so many free versions out there are well established and tested.

So my question to the lot would be how well does this hold up to the standard in this area: Glary?

Are there any differentiators warranting purchasing vs. a freeware product? I see are many posts saying that there are free versions out there, and that is true. But what is actually helpful is to know whether this offering (normally a pay version) is worth the $.

So has there been any new, creative, and/or innovative way in which the utility works that sets it apart from the myriad of offering s we have to choose from?

Focusing on the difference(s), instead of alternatives, will let us know more about the offering.

As always, thanks again to the OEM and GAOTD for your efforts.

@22 Thanks. Using the properties context menu in Shortcut, it is targeting the x86 programs folder (whereas my Documents shortcut is for the x64 version). So I understand what you're saying.

Have I downloaded the wrong version of WU? Or should I either be very careful of the package - or not even use it if I'm an x64 user - in your opinion of course!?

Again, thanks for your help, hpearce.

Meh, I used to use Winutilities.
Seemed like a good all in one utility.
But the program finds a lot of invalid shortcuts that really are not
invalid.
So I set these all to be excluded. When the program updates, none of these exclusions are saved.
And the program gets updated quite frequently so this was a big pain.
The program also includes the ask toolbar, and if you avoid it once, you still have to remember to avoid it during each update on a daily basis.
Sometimes I think that the program is updated so frequently just so there is another shot at ask toolbar being installed.
Because after a load of updates, the eclusions still do not save and I dont really see anything major changing.
I uninstalled it a few days ago, no more headaches on a daily basis.
