Downloaded and installed, and scanned 25 DVDs. Scanning was extremely fast, but when tried to view the disc content in any of the views of the Navigator, it showed only the information page for the very first disk, then reported an error which I can't recall, and resulted in showing an empty window. When Trying to open a database (base as the program calls it) it offers to open it from the Documents folder, where it is not. The database it built (did it?) is not in the program folder either. I don't know if it's worth looking for. When trying to find in windows explorer under XP, the file type 'DVDCommander base' is not listed. The title bar of the program includes a filename "base.cdb", which I did not find on any of my drives.
I decided to remove this program as it is not stable and does not tell me where the database file is. (Preferences won't tell).
I ditch the program.

#46 - FW DiskCat is the Freeware Disk cataloguers category, take your pick.

The ones I remember doing well in alt.comp.freeware newsgroup polls are Cathy and Catfish, with Cathy being more recently updated.

http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwmovieorganizer.html
The Movie organizers category is also similar, though programs listed there may not be capable of general disk/file organizing, though several can fetch details from IMDB or Amazon

This seems to be a Vista issue. Recently, some of my system icons have been failing to show in Windows' system notification tray. When that happens, I have to go in to the Control Panel to activate volume control or internet access. For volume control, it is easer to open the Realtek control panel through windows' Start Menu.

Recently, however, even the Start Menu method failed. Clicking on the Realtek icon in the Start Menu failed to start the application. Even bringing up my third party file manager, explorer2, and clicking on that icon failed to start it.

A similar situation developed when I downloaded Driver Magician from GOTD. A previous version had worked perfectly; but the recent version developed the icon issue mentioned above. You may wish to take further discussion to the GOTD forums.

@ printing out the data base

Both the home page and the softpedia entry for this application tell us that the programme is capable of exporting the database index to an html page for printing out.

@ the grammmar nazis

Lighten up! The English-speaking world has been employing the same practices ever since mass production became the mainspring of capitalist profit-making. The non English-speaking world has adopted the same habits. Learning the grammmar of another language is a time-consuming process. And if we are going to winge on about proper English usage, I vote for Chaucerian English, remnants of which are still spoken in Newfoundland, Canada; because I really can't stand the way the Americans have bastardized the Queen's English.

However, when a software developer can't even learn how to run a simple spell check (and there are plenty of free spell checkers out there) on his documentation ....

Post 10 Braiden.
I think you are mixxed up.
You compare this to Starburn.
It is NO SUCH THING.
You say burn time is a bit slow.
It is not a copy program it is for catalouging.
Did you USE it or not.
How did you make it burn a disk.
LOL
Quote"Still… i congratulate WhereMyDVD on achieving the following things:

*a near idiot proof GUI
*using terrible grammar
*charging people for the above

I cant say that this program has a small footprint, at times around 100mb’s of my memory was taken by this program, and it is less than satisfying in burn times…"

Well, the description does tell us it has SOMETHING to do with DVDs and databases and it won't force us to decipher "multiple menu systems full of cryptic options"... Ok... Right... Guess they forgot the part about not forcing their customers to decipher their cryptic description...

Come on GotD! You guys are smarter than this. Descriptions like this are a waste of time and they insult your users. Don't bother posting "descriptions" that don't actually TELL US WHAT THE PROGRAM DOES!

When I'm left wondering what a program does after I've read the description, I'm not inclined to want to install it on my computer...

For a DVD collection program, there is no better one than DVD Collector from crunchymedia. It is free too.

Scans covers in, hooks up with imdb, etc.
Too much to write here, but it is awesome and leaves this one for dead.

The issues with uninstall started with # 7 and seems to have continued with several other users today. Now, not to complain but a few issues with past give aways including one system crash have made me a touch skeptical about some of these programs. Thankfully, I was here early enough to see the first comments and decided not to download this program.
Now, as to the uninstall issues, try Revo Uninstaller. It kills programs Ajax can't wash off. It can be downloaded at http://www.revouninstaller.com/ or at download.com. If all else fails try it in safe mode or do a system restore to a point your sure was prior to this install.
Just remember, if you don't need, want or have use of any give away, don't download it. Just because something is free for a day, doesn't make it worth downloading or good for that matter.
