I downloaded X7 before and then got to buy Evolution 8. I have done programming on lots of languages but not much on HTML. This is a pretty good software to jump start any web development I should say and it pays off for the speed you can get your designs. In my experience in programming its pretty frustrating to code everything from scratch and is never a good practice. By taking care of a lot of the nuances in coding you can actually focus on other stuff like the actual content of the site.

For a fast simple site, this is perfect. Sometimes people just want to get something on a site fast & have it look good, which this does. It's nice, for that!
*
Ya kmow, the people who posted about Evolution 8 have a real problem, don't they? Just can't quite get their heads around reality. This WAS'NT Evolution! What's the matter with you?

Not a bad software, but I don't understand how people can make really good site using wizard.
There was Ultima Website program on GAOTD, that is a good choice for novices of web design.

@26 - not true. The Smart version, at version 8 (as opposed to version 7 offered here) does allow uploading to the web, read the feature comparison here: http://www.websitex5.com/en/compare_3.html

Only thing is. the bastards seem to have completely removed any download link to the Smart 8 version. It could never be found via the navigation on the site but at least a search for "Smart" revealed the download link - no more.
Anyway, it's not worth it...

For a site that I created using this software you could visit http://www.cvtruckspares.co.uk
Or you can reach it through my own site by just clicking on my name below.
My own site was done the long, laborious way by hand coding.

I don't get it, is this supposed to be an older version to interest in buying newer and better or a super lite just for GAOTD. Below is taken from there 2 products that they have available from the link at the top of the page. OK I downloaded WebSite X5 v 7 from here and the other one ver 8 from Ask.com. The GAOTD ver has more models (see templates) but the UI on ver 8 is more flashy 21 files and folders in ver 8 as compared to 23 in ver 7. 26 model folders in ver 8 but 50 in ver 7 GAOTD. I probably won't take a closer look until TM, but anyone just starting on being a web designer should check out all of the resources at ask.com. Hope this helps someone.

At first I was rather impressed, for someone with little to no knowledge of website coding it was a breeze to make a "quickie" for testing purposes. For my taste the supplied templates were not all that great and rather drab so I headed to the programs sight as I noticed some nice templates available for free download. Unfortunately to my surprise, after downloading a handful of them, I found out that they would not load into this version. They work fine in the newest version 8.

I also notice it does not do to well at removing everything that was created on install when un-installing the program. Other than the mentioned above as well as it's limited ability to do what other free programs can do, I still must say it is a nice clean program that does what it says it will do and is definitely a winner for the novice user. And although this is not the current version it is free and in my book makes this a win, win situation for the user.

The problem with this type of thing is that they always generate sloppy non-standards complaint code...that is code with errors.

For those that don't write code by hand (and you should because then you'll know how everything works and how to troubleshoot), I will suggest these FREE WYSIWYG from Mozilla, the good folks that make Firefox. These at least will generate standard error free code in the WYSIWYG enviroment:

Stand alone 'KompoZer':
http://www.kompozer.net/

Or the whole suite, now known as 'SeaMonkey':
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/

Having said that...again I must say that if you are going to build a site, your best bet is to learn how to read, write and understand xhtml and css.
