Installed with no problems on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I did not have to "Run as Adiministrator" the setup.exe installation file, and I entered the registration code in the text file, and it registered on the first try. I restarted the application to make sure, and then restarted Windows to be sure again. For good measure I did check the box "Run as Administrator" on the Compatibility tab under Properties, but that was after registration was complete, it didn't make a difference when it came to registering the product that I could tell.

Since I know nothing about HTML code this could be very useful to building a website, this would be useful for that purpose since I haven't had the time to learn. I think 10 years ago I bought CDs to learn HTML, but they are not up to standards by now, they could only serve to teach me outdated methods at this point. Thanks Giveaway of the Day.

Downloaded fine; seemed to install fine...BUT...doesn't want to register...even after carefully following the instructions in the readme.txt sile!! Tried about ten times so far...all I get is "Please close WebPageMaker and restart it"...! BUT...when I restart it, it still shows up as "Unregistered Version"...! I could really use this program...IF I could get the dommed thing to register properly?!

Installed with no problem, in less than a minute on my PC. Win Vista Home Premium SP2. Had setup run the program post-install. Registered. The program asked me to close and start back up. Works for me, no glitches or errors.

Okay, you are correct. It is a "freebie" thanks to GAOTD in which I am a big fan and highly recommend them to clients. This program IS free and good for a person to begin learning to build web pages on.
I started building pages with "hard" coding html in 1994. Now thanks to programs such as Web Page Maker, and www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com, I have cut my time at least 99% and can still enter code where needed.
For an example of WYSIWYG go to www.countryamericamedia.com or www.oncallcellular.com. What I was getting at was the difference in price if you were to purchase the program retail in comparison to WYSIWYG which I am quite positive the developer of WYSIWYG built for Web Page Maker to their specifications. My suggestion is to learn on Web Page Maker then upgrade to WYSIWYG.

Before I begin my rant here, I'd just like to say that this program does what it says in an easy-to-use manner, so for that reason I've chosen not to give it a thumbs-down rating.

However, I do have an issue in general with programs of this sort. As I'm sure all of you who are in the field of web development will know, programs such as this are by no means standards-compliant. I've had a lot of people say to me in the past that "this is a good way to start in web development." Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Most people who start their web development lives with the use of programs like this usually end up using Dreamweaver for their entire web developing life. It's because of things like this that Microsoft is in no hurry to become standards-compliant (see http://html5readiness.com). It's also why those of us who actually code our websites get so angry at having to spend countless unnecessary hours making things both completely cross-browser, and completely standards-compliant.

Now, don't get me wrong. I gave this program a shot. I went to the developer's website and tested every single website on the first page of their "Gallery" for markup validity. Not one passed.

So please, for the sake of standards-compliance and the Internet as a whole, avoid these types of programs if at all possible. Go to W3Schools and learn to actually code. Please. I'm begging you.

Problems getting through to server in order to authorize installation, but after I finally succeeded, it installed quickly and cleanly and I was able to register it according to instructions with no difficulty. This is all on a AMD dual CPU system running XP pro SP3 along with at least 40 (if not more) GAOTD programs from the past year or so plus a similar number of freeware programs obtained from other websites, and thus I can say that today's offer seems to have no software conflicts.

Bob B: The reason it names your home page index.html (.htm) is that is what most servers are set to as a default home page. Either that or default.html (.htm) Sometimes you can do either--check with your web host. The reason the home page is standardized is because people will type in www.yoursite.com. If the home page is a non-standard name, they will end up with a 404 not found.

The best (and one of the only FREE WYSIWYG editor I've found is Kompozer.) Works on multiple OSs and is also available as portable which is great as I work contract and some of the companies I have worked for either don't have any HTML software or something lame like a old version of FrontPage. No Dreamweaver, but it will do in a pinch.

FYI: The only way I got the program to register was to run the program as Administrator and then enter the registration information given in the Read Me file. I tried 4 or 5 times, and even rebooted, before it occurred to me to try it that way. Hope this saves someone the frustration I went through!

Developer's website looks like an older 4.0 transitional html web page converted to xhtml using HTML-kit based on the source (which also still contains deprecated font codes).

Not able to complete registration process at all. Have attempted to enter the Username: Giveawayoftheday and Registration Key given in the readme file. It opens the GAOTD window that says the software is Activated, but when I close the program I get the 15 day free trial message every time. I will not be passing this software freebie on to others!

This is a great program for people who want a quick website without too much hassle and without having to dip in to html coding.

For people who want more, programs like Dreamweaver or manual html coding are obviously the answer. There are a huge amount of open source scripts out there for code junkies. Lol!

You can view the html source code for any page displayed in a browser, via the browser menu.

For some higher profile sites, if they have embedded frames you won't see much of the code, similarly if they use php scripts or separate file css or java scripts. They can also be VERY complicated as html code. it is far better to look at the code for simple sites to see how things are done, or better still, use many of the beginner html and website tutorials online!

It's a little bit unfair to criticise a program like today's GAOTD for not having more advanced features when it's not aimed even partly at more knowing website people. It is designed for beginners (!) to get a web page or two written quickly using the program . . . .

You can register to yourself using the GAOTD key and your name.

After trying to register over and over on Vista, I uninstalled and then re-installed from scratch, and was finally able to register.
I seldom have trouble registering other GAOTD programs.

I too ran into issues with opening already created sites in an attempt to edit them, taking a few minutes to realize that you have to import the premade html webpages - not intuitive at all.
I imported a pre-made and successfully used splash page that was nothing but a background color, one image with a link, and a line of text. All that displayed in the workspace was a blank screen. No placeholder, no image, no text, no link, no background color.
If the program can't handle such a simple html page properly, I'd hate to think what its output would be like to edit with some other editor.

Yes - all you need to do is right-click somewhere on the selected web page, and select 'View Source.' You'll see the html code.

Like an earlier poster suggested it is necessary to both install as administrator and then run the program as administrator to make the registration key work. You must do it by right-clicking and selecting 'run as administrator'. Running on an account with administrator permissions does NOT work.

I'm really getting to like this editing program... It's very easy to use. Very intuitive... The results are also very good if you know what your doing... I would like to know if there are any more templates available for download ???

I lied...there *is* a setting to generate a separate CSS file. It is under Tools > Options, a checkbox.

the price can't be justified when you consider Serif Webplus, which can be had at $40 when it comes on special. For people who don't know how to do HTML, and find Kompozer terribly long and difficult (most of us), it is has a huge pile of resources, is very enjoyable to use, and is well supported. This just doesn't come anywhere near that level of quality

I have downloaded heaven knows how many Website builders. This is hands down the best. I regularly use Yahoo and Homestead site builders, and I must say this is better than either of them. Easier to use and more features!

A bonus feature as far as I am concerned is you can create a beautiful page, then send it as an email!

While Web Page Maker is self-contained, judging from a couple of Windows entries in the registry, it *may* rely on or use Direct Draw [part of Direct X]. If it does, you might try making sure you have the latest Direct X & graphics drivers installed.

Using Process Explorer [free fome SysInternals @ microsoft.com], don't see anything out of the ordinary being used by Web Page Maker, though it does open a few Internet Explorer files & a couple Windows files related to/for XML.

Being that I have only ever used Dreamweaver to create a website, I must say this program has some nice features. I particularly like the way you just move pictures & text boxes to where you want them (compared to creating tons of tables). The lock feature is extremely useful (lock objects in place so you cannot inadvertently move them).

Considering the very small size of this program, it is fairly robust for creating a simple personal website. Its biggest limitation is the lack of more templates.

Contrary to what "wordperfect" says at #44. This program WILL allow you to enter your own name for registration purposes as opposed to Giveawayoftheday which is the norm.

Web Page Maker is a nice, small app that comes with 8 templates [4 biz & 4 personal], a selection of pre-packaged JavaScript, & the ability to easily add Flash video or slide-shows [you can also add Windows Media & Real video files]. The app itself takes up ~7MB with 254 files, 56 folders, includes a small selection of clip-art, backgrounds etc, & *should* be easy to make portable with Portable App Creator [from the portableapps.com forum] -- Web Page Maker has very little impact on the registry [relies on less than a dozen entries], and far as I can tell, zero impact on Windows itself. Assuming you're interested in software to design/create a web site, I think the 3 biggest factors deciding whether you'll like & use today's GOTD are: 1) if it's advanced enough, 2) if you prefer wizard based apps [Web Page Maker isn't], & 3) if the company or ISP hosting your web site doesn't already provide you with software &/or on-line tools [if so, chances are using them will make getting your site on their servers easier].

The main area where Web Page Maker is weaker than more *pro* apps is site management... If you want return visitors you either add/change content, add a new look, or both [I wouldn't be writing this & you wouldn't be reading it if GOTD was Giveaway of the month ;-) ]. Now not every site updates frequently, but if yours does (or you want it to), you'll probably want an app that makes changing styles as easy as it is in Word [or similar word processing apps]. You'll want to more easily add/subtract content, & have just those changes made to your on-line site, rather than replacing everything. At the least you'll probably want more CSS support [CSS = easily changed, separate files where your styles are kept]. Otherwise, when it comes to page design & layout, there's not a lot you can't do with Web Page Maker, though you may have to do some copy/pasting code for more advanced features since it only comes pre-equipped with the basics. The Web has evolved, with most of the "Wow" sort of eye candy replaced by content &/or sites that actually do something -- updated major sites look simpler, not more complex... Something like Web Page Maker may well be all you want/need.

There is a problem on registering the produce through Giveawayoftheday. I keep getting messages to register using the info on the text file given. But no matter what I do I keep getting the same message (including the 15 day trial). Looks like I won't be using this product as promised because it will not let me register it. There are no templates. The top banner indicates it is registered, but when you check "about" from the help icon it says not registered. Yes, I did use giveawayofthe day in name field and copied and pasted the number. Thanks

There's another free alternative: Seamonkey. It'll act as both a WYSIWYG, and pro editor, and comes with a mail client, browser, and chat client.

I click yes, enter the name and code I was given, then it tells me to restart the program. I do and when I close it, I am asked to register it again!

Just for those having trouble with registration, don't forget the NAME in the reg box is giveawayoftheday.... NOT your own or anything else, then copy and paste the PASSWORD from the READ ME box.

I mention this because I know it is an issue that crops up quite often and usually this is the solution, but if you have done that and still have problems I can't help.

@#32 when you go to a url http://yourdomain.com what is actually displayed is http://yourdomain.com/index.html (or index.htm or index.php if the others do not exist>) If you go to http://yourdomain.com/newfolder it also displays the index.html in the folder "newfolder"

I found that this program does not handle importing html files well. The images were displaced and background color was lost. It looks like it is very limited in it's capablities.

It saves files in a proprietary format that are useless without this program.

I won't be keeping it.

The name of your website can be whatever you like - however, its is common to name the first page (the one which will be displayed when your site is called) index.htm or index.html. That way a user doesn't need to know what have called your pages.

A user just type your URL (eg. http://mysite.com) and the webbrowser will load the appropriate index.html file.

Is this why so many sites look "canned", lacking Individuality? TemplateWeb? Geezzz...their homepage sure does NOT Inspire, right? :)

One should compare this to Serif WebPlus SE, which is free, and the big-dog in this category. Its retail version I regularly use successfully. And Creatively.

WYSIWYG is Great for right/left-exclusive brain-ers (which is it?) who work best Visually. The BIGGEST feature all(!) WYSIWYG-web suites could use is a real-time side-window that reveals EXACTLY what any tweaking generates in a Browser (in optional Geeko/IE/Chr-view). Great day!

I have been using this program for a few years...and I really enjoy the simple nature of it. I maintain a website for a youth football program (www.springhillfootball.com)using it, so you can take a look at that to see what can been done quickly.

You can easily create templates and have elements on all pages or just select pages....you can add flash movies easily...iframes....html code is simple to add.

All in all, It is really easy to update...I know, because I have to update it daily.

Instaled on Vista 32 (Admin) and registered through the Help menu without any troubles. This prog cannot be compared with Artisteer (http://www.artisteer.com), but still offers some useful features.

- Not so good:
+ Transparency of photos/pictures does not exist (pity!).
+ Very limited shapes available: only rectangle (including round) and ellipse.
+ Drawing of a shape is not supported --> to draw a circle, you have to first insert an ellipse, then change its size (in properties) to the same width & height (not extremely easy for beginners).

- Good:
+ Password protection.
+ Easy to play with.
+ Very good for beginners to learn HTML codes.

Correct me if I am wrong in any points. So I would keep this since it costs nothing today.
