Video Download Capture seems to be a somewhat confsing name as Downloading and Capturing are very different actions. But now that i think about it literally, it may mean, " to capture the video you have already downloaded" ? I was all excited when i saw todays givaway, thinking it was the software from applian technologies. As i read on .. magiccrpet (#24) states that it is from the same makers as Streaming Video Recorder given away on aug 18. That software was (IMO) written very poorly and just overall a poor effort by the developers. Using 40MB of RAM when Idle is insane , especially for a program working with videos that already are too taxing on cpu cycles. The only thing programs like this can do very well is shorten the life of your computer, again (IMO).

Thank you Ashraf for the review as always. One question i have, when i goto read the review, it says the site is not availible, but to read the review anyway, click here, which displays your review in a jpg image. Cool, but is that normal? Anyway, on the up side, I was turned on to auto-it from yesterday's giveaway comment page. I am Very ***** about that. :) ooops h a p p y is copyrighted it appears. Thanks again GOTD, and all those who make it happen.

and btw, not kid friendly? i think your kid would disagree when he can capture all the porn you download..

JUST KIDDING

Did the software revert to Trial on its aniversary? If so than it was probably set to check for updates and when updated reverted to Trial.
Sorry for all the reverteds, its late here. I hope it helps.

Warning. DEP flagged this program. I would not use it.

DEP/NX is a feature of modern CPUs that allows marking of memory pages as Executable or non-Executable. This allows the CPU to help prevent execution of malicious data placed into memory by an attacker. If the CPU detects that it is about to jump to (begin execution of) data which is in a memory page which is not marked as Executable, the CPU will raise an exception which results in termination of the process.

Stated another way, if DEP/NX determines that if a potentially dangerous jump is about to be made, the process is intentionally “safely crashed” to prevent a potential security exploit

At the first attempt to activate the activate box just remained on screen. When I tried later, it seemed to work ( got activate successful message), but when I use the software I get a message advising that it's a trial version & amongst other limitations it won't convert an entire video.

Any ideas please?

#23: "What does “child friendly” mean?"

ummmm... many boys will love some of the sites it's set up for, & their mothers would just as likely smack their dads for having it installed. ;?P

I've got very mixed feelings about Video Download Capture. You need to input the URL of the video you want, & often determining the URL can be the hardest part. The video conversion is fast, even though it only uses 1 core in XP SP3 32 -- it showed 130 - 135 fps encoding to H264 -- but your choice of video size & format is pretty limited... other GOTD video conversion apps have had a much nicer (IMHO) setup for choosing device presets (iPod, Zune etc...). On top of that the program install is pretty intrusive, with 42+ MB in 73 files, 15 folders, plus its own cache in the Apowersoft folder under user appdata. It uses several common video filters, & registers every one with Windows, regardless what you already have -- this might break some other apps, cause problems after uninstall, & downgrade those filter versions from what you have installed. InstallWatch Pro records 408 added registry entries, with an additional 114 updated, those some of that is Windows registry caches. You have to edit the apps .ini file [in the mentioned app data folder] if you want to turn off auto updates -- after install it wanted to connect to a site with a non-English (Asian) URL. [probably nothing out of the ordinary, but not good in principle so I blocked it] Finally, I'm not sure about the content's of the program's folder -- 3 sub-folders & their content look like they might have been left over from compiling the code &/or should be in Windows system folders, though I'm uncertain whether that would or could effect anything else in Windows.

Beyond the more tech stuff, Video Download Capture comes set up for some on-line video sources that I'll just say aren't *family friendly*. Not judging anyone, that could be a big plus or minus for some folks.
