Personally I can't understand why someone needs encryption in the first place unless we are talking about encryption of logins for internet banking etc.

Judging from all the foregoing feedback, this is indeed either feeble software created by someone who doesn't know what they are doing, an out-and-out scam, or maybe even covert spyware. Again, only IMHO, there is way too much negative feedback for me to even entertain the idea of allowing it on my system.

Now, before you give my comment a thumbs-down, I would like to add that I have been burned before by software purporting to be much better than it turned out to be and then finding that some of my personal information had been compromised... resulting in identity theft. I am making no allegations here, but these days users must be more aware that they must take personal responsibility for the content they allow on their PCs.

Just because it's free and passes through your antivirus scanner does not mean that it is safe, especially if it is as cobbled together as this one seems to be.

This is by no means to be taken as any reflection on GAOTD because they do a great job.

Well, I rated it up, as I think lots of users don't know any solutions for these kind of problems. So whether or not this program will help them, discussing about it and suggesting other programs might help. For example, there's a program called Instant Lock, which I found last week, and I'm not sure if it's free, but it's great and easy to use!
Here are two links to download, on the first one it is said to be free, however, on the second it's said to be shareware.

I found a fix for the installation problem. It only takes a few steps and it's really easy:

1. Copy the .MSI file to the root directory of your main hard drive (i.e. C:\)

2. Open Windows Notepad

3. Copy this text into windows notepad:

    msiexec /i "C:\Setup.msi"

4. Click File -> Save As...

5. Instead of saving it as a .txt file, change the file name to installer.bat

6. Save the file to your desktop

7. On your desktop, right click on the file and select Run as Administrator

BE SURE to run install.bat as Administrator or it won't work!

truecrypt anyone?
free, opensource and provides the ability to encrypt files in AES (Advanced Encryption Standard - which is vouched by the NSA), Serpent (which in my opinion is just as string as AES) and Twolfish.
Truecrypt is well documented, straightforward to use, with a myriad of options to hide sensitive data.

I'm having the same problem as #3, “The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2869.” I'm not a newbie and I've tried everything; I even tried to install it directly from the Uconomix website with the same result. HELP!

On there web site, they say "It employs the strongest possible encryption available today - the AES 512 bit encryption"

In cryptography, the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) is an encryption standard adopted by the U.S. government. The standard comprises three block ciphers, AES-128, AES-192 and AES-256, adopted from a larger collection originally published as Rijndael.

As far a I know there is no AES-512.
