I think this software is good. Perhaps it is not suitable for all computer users, especially skillful typist. But it really provide aid for common users, the old man, children, and the users whose native language is not English. The auto-learn function is helpful, because most words we type everyday is repeating. The shorthand function is useful too, it can help nearly everyone.

Actually you can quickly Enable/Disable the software by hotkey, which can be set at "Control Panel". And you can also define the applications with which you want Typing Assistant works there. Because if the popup window appears everywhere, perhaps it is annoying.

In any case, I am enjoying it.

I liked this program at first.
I then found that I was typing faster than it could keep up with.(Although I am not particularly a fast typist)
THEN as Brenda mentioned,
"I have been having problems with my computer responding sluggishly when I go to correct a typo but I am not sure if that is Typing Assistant doing it. Also, I had not rebooted the computer since installing it. (I eventually got a message that I was running out of virtual memory.)"
This happened to me as well...
uninstalled...

wow. great comments here. as someone wrote: "do research". and for a single webpage, this is one of the best reads.
despite temptation to add comment on many "digressions" (e.g., mindreader), I'll hope this "potential user" comment is useful to the devs:
My spelling, grammar & sentence structure skills are decent, but my fingers are erratic. so, I could be a typo-ware user. however, as at least one other GOTDer commented above, I find it faster to work by blobs - type a blob, then check the blob. [and i just now used firefox's checker for the preceding typing, accepting about 1/3 of its suggestions, manually correcting about 2/5 & leaving the remainder.]
Someone noted today's app cannot deal with a word that's been typed. that's a major defect for us blobmode typists.

MS Office spellcheck & autocorrect have worked decently for me. years back I found oespell (iespell?) worked well (they use ms office files).
Various apps claimed methods to use Aspell or similar, but I've never had those schemes work. I'd tried on multiple win9x, xp computers and a few "mother" apps.
I've tried a few of the external checkers, and some operated as claimed, yet were far too cumbersome to use.

BTW, similar limitations regarding typo-ware's guessing apply to speech recognition ware. but speech recognition has an even messier "challenge".
Is AI the holy grail of programming? :-)

By the way the solution to my problem was to follow these instructions from their support:

You can try this: "Typing Assistant-->Control Panel-->Others-->Compatible with other Auto-Complete window", un-check this item. THEN RE-BOOT.

The program started working immediately.

I am trying this new software and it’s quite different then any other program that I would normally use. This can be very useful to some that get stuck on certain words and if you are like me in the way I type like one finger on each hand chicken –pecking it seems useful. Especially if you have the tendency to look at the keyboard more then the screen it’s great. But I have noticed the list of suggested words it brings up seems to mostly match the word you are wanting to type when you get to the last 2-3 letters. Great for words ending with ING and LY or ED. But like some of us, you could type those ending letters faster then looking at the list and pressing the number in the list you need. Seems good with coming up with some compound words. That’s where I see the advantage the most in speeding up your typing. Spell check works well. It caught all misspells I made doing this review. It did not however catch any bad grammar I might have made. My Microsoft Word kicked in for me on that. I could see some annoyance if you are a great speller with fast typing abilities, in that case you would only need the regular spell check in your Microsoft Word program. I give this a thumbs up on being a very good program for the impaired and the beginner or very slow typist. But thumbs down on the price if you had to buy this. $15 or $20 tops. I just can’t see $35. Like just about any software program out there if you Google long enough you might find something that is close or equally the same or maybe better in the freeware/open source world. Just remember with some freeware you might have to put up with nag screens, limited options and malicious malware trojans that come with them. Great go for GAOTD to get this for those who could use it for free. Didn’t have any trouble downloading it or registering it. Worked well. Thanks GAOTD. Keep up the great work.

This is in regards to my post #109. I didn't give up, and emailed the support at Typing Assistant. They were very responsive and very helpful. After two emails, they resolved the problem. Pretty amazing for free software, and they get a big +10 from me and their program.

Hi

This could be a great addition t my software but when I try to run the setup prog. It tells me I can't.

This often happens with packages I really want to try.

It downloaded OK but that's it. The download does not seem to be corrupted. I have downloaded it 3 times.

Any ideas

#76: You can do all that with ActiveWords. Use the keyword 'aspirin' to trigger a script, which not only will navigate through the form, but will also replace or type text as you go along.

For those who want easy access to google: use select any text in any application, press the optional hotkey (F8 by default), and your selection is looked up in Google.
The hotkey is optional when typing, btw. You can specify whether or not to act without it. Obviously, this also makes it ideal for correcting text, replacing text, etc.

I use it, amongst many other things, when maintaining our DNS servers. One command will automatically start a vpn connection to the site where our DNS servers are and logon to the DNS server I specified when creating this ActiveWord, another command will automatically create the required files for the newly registered domain.

You can also use it to calculate on the fly: just use the word 'calc' and press the optional hotkey. The expression you just type (i.e. 81+72) will be replace with the outcome (153).

As for accented characters:

A BETA version of ActiveWords PLUS is available for testing. This BETA version is designed to be compatible with all Windows Language Settings. You may wish to evaluate this BETA version if you regularly use non-English Windows Language Settings.
You can find it at http://www.activewords.com/build712beta.html
