I just had a look at the authors website to check what was the current version now some months after the original giveaway… it is now at 4.1 but 4.0 and above do not recognise the GAOTD license details BUT 3.2 DOES! This is a big plus as 3.1 has some serious bugs that stop it working cold after a period of time and another bug that causes the entire screen to go loopy for no aparent reason as you type. Even the what’s new page recomends people avoid 3.1 due to “potential bug”.

You should be able to unistall 3.1 and install 3.2 and the reg info remains intact.
If you do get curious and wish to try 4.0 or 4.1 it will not wipe out the existing registration data so you can downgrade to registered 3.2 afterwards.

I tried this on Vista, and like some others here, encountered poor compatibility. It works in some places, but not others, such as Notepad and Wordpad. I wasn’t expecting it to work with IE, which runs in Protected mode (with UAC). For IE, I use the Google Toolbar beta. Also, something really screwed up my Vista permissions. Firefox 3 beta wouldn’t update or uninstall. My APC UPS monitor wouldn’t run. Fortunately, I was able to uninstall them via Safe mode, which doesn’t always work. I’m not too concerned, as I’m going to reinstall Vista anyway, due to other rot. Speaking of Firefox, it amuses me that many users are unaware that it added features that have been in IE and the Google Toolbar for a long time (of course, it took years for IE to add features that have been in Firefox, and the Google Toolbar is still much better). As for Typing Assistant, it amuses me that so many comments here which both claim to be using it, or claim that it’s unnecessary, have so many spelling errors.

Interesting idea to use the disable/enable function to get the dead ket functionallity. I am aware of this contolpanel setting.
The thing is that the typing you do has to be, as much possible, like the normal typing. The way you describe I have to hit twice (on and off again)and with the dead key function only once (on, off is automatic when the word is finished confirmed by a space, comma etc.) This will be much more intervening than using the dead key function.
But you have pointed out the main point of interception in the algorithm to implement the dead key function.
I see the enable/disable function as more of use for longer periods then while typing.

Sadly, it wouldn’t work for me either.
Everything downloaded and seemed to install but it didn’t work in any program. I think there is a problem with the installer. I am running XP Pro and have administrator privileges.

I have used the program for the whole day now and I have to say I like the idea of this program – but it does not do it well. Because I use dual monitors and have two pretty big screens; most of my typing is not where that little box appears with the spelling. Too many times I was competing with two separate auto complete functions.

The main problem I have with this program is the box being on the wrong place, if it was just under what I was typing or was similar to Dreamweavers auto complete tag that would be extremely useful.

Unfortunately I had to un-install the program as it was just too unhelpful for me.

The auto-learn function learns words one after another. To fill your library will be much work. It is ideal to add words to an exsiting library though.
The import function I mentioned is not there (yet ?) but it will fill the library with many words in a very short time. You could start libraries from scratch in that way.

I installed it without any trouble
But I have default sound! Then I turn the sound off. It’s nicer.
Then, it’s not easy to type a letter with a followed number, such as K4, …
Anyway, thank GAOTD!

Too bad you didn’t figure out how to use Typing Assistant before uninstalling it. EverNote is one of my most-used programs; in fact, I found out about Giveaway of the Day from the EverNote site. It’s so easy to enable TA to work in EverNote and other programs! I also enabled it in another of my most-used programs, RootsMagic, my genealogy database program.

To do this, just go to Control Panel and choose Application Manage. Click ENABLED. Then click the Add button and choose Running (or Browse, if the program you want to enable isn’t running). I enabled several running programs at the same time. Of course, you can also choose programs to disable in Application Manage.

I don’t know yet how useful TA will be to me since I’m a fast typist and a good speller, but I think I’ll use it a lot for genealogy. When I’m entering data in RootsMagic, I often use the same terminology over and over, so this could be a lot easier than retyping every time.
