The install process is one of the most crazy ones I have ever encountered, basically uses all memory of the PC and doesnt tell us what it currently actually does or installs. That'a amateur crap. Plus my AntiVir popped up twice to delete files it considered to be dangerous.

Now the app still starts, and seems to look useful, but clicking on some functions it immediately closes, in total. Hahaha, that was funny. I suggest you guys get a real programmer, that streamlines your application, and tests it against firewalls and antivir programs.

Personaly I do not need this as I am happy with SmartPix ($15 ? but does vary at times) and ACDSee (free with camera, but can be bought).
I would have tried it to give feedback as the GAOTD system is designed.
If it was noticeably better, then I would happily buy and get the updates.
BUT :-
Registration is too complex.
I have read nothing to say it is woth $70.
Plus it appears to have poor uninstaller, which means I end up using another uninstaller (i.e. need to do the job twice).
So it is not worth bothering with.
P.S. If anyone did want to steal the software, there are so many ways of doing it, the company is 'banging it's head against a brick wall' simple and efficient protection is best.

@ Angela #49: Try using Revo uninstaller to remove it. If you don't already have it, just get the free version from their website at revouninstaller.com and run it in the "Advanced" detection mode. It's been on giveaway here in the past (pro version) and cleans up failed uninstallers really well.

agree with #44.

not sure if this causes reg issues for some folks, but per readme file, submit for registration info first before installing. follow directions and you will receive your password quite quickly. then install, and add as directed.

interface is simplistic, not too pretty. however my images will not load in the file list window. I'm usually quite software literate, but maybe I'm missing something?

...and finally, after the crashes when I re-opened, none of my folders appeared to contain any files again!

To add insult to injury, the uninstaller bundled with the set up didn't work.

Needless to say, I have now used another program to uninstall it, and I can quite easily state that this is the worst program I have ever installed from GOTD.

I'm sure I must be missing something here, but I appear to have hundreds of folders and absolutely no files (documents or photos) on my computer! As soon as I drill down past folder level, the pane is blank - ie as if no files are in the folder!

Very bemused!

STILL CRASHES after reboot attempting to read a Raw file.

NRFPTY (nerf putty) = Not Ready For Prime Time Yet

I'll uninstall and reboot one more time to clear this out of my system, and move on from FileStream's offering.

Earlier, someone suggested that "... Turbo Browser ... [is]... just like Microsoft’s Windows Browser ..."

Microsoft's "browser" is IE Internet Explorer.

A "browser" is generally a web browser.

Do you mean Microsoft's Windows Explorer, for "exploring" (or "browsing", if you will) local files?

Whoever said Turbo Browser is not an image editor missed the pull-down menus offering Darkroom Tools, Optimization, and so on.

It's nice to view contents of files, but DOC and XLS fail, and even HTML gets script errors and lock up the computer for a while.

It's too bad the FileStream programmer isn't participating here to make things right.

Registration was in a matter of seconds all OK, installed OK
When running the program the problems start

It seems incompatible with Windows 7 64bit perhaps, I don't know. But for starters it does not list any of the images from my pictures in the tree view(???) when selecting one image JPEG the program froze and crashed. I installed this twice today with no luck. Most of the menu functions are grayed out like Batch edit, darkroom etc. I was unable to make use of the features.

The program itself isn't really a killer app. The look is Windows 98 style. The management lacks features like Zoner Studio, XN View or Cyberlink PhotoDirector. Reading on the website it says Multiple Award Winning... If that is the developers goal then this software has a long hard road ahead.

I give it 5 stars for the effort and 1 star for functionality.

Norton did again chim its bells. GOTD Team please look at the setup file there is something that my anti-virus software don´t like.

FileStream for $70 I expect a far more up-to-date GUI in the setup and inside the program too !
This program belongs to the Windows 95/98 era and don´t work with Win7 !!!
The features of the program is very old... example: "Dial-Up" is from the time of manual dial-up modem ! Today we have a 24/7 connection to the WWW !

This program don´t have any features that Win7 don´t have ! And it crashes all the time and responds in a very slow way too ! There is many bugs in this program, so, again, $70 for this program isn´t going to get new buyers...

#31 I'm guessing you're from Kansas. What part of Turbo Browser did you not understand? Turbo means its fast and Browser means it browses. Its just like Microsoft's Windows Browser should, be except they havn't changed it much (if any) in the past 10 years.

#11 You seem to be obsessed with image viewers and editors. This is not just an image viewer. What you Googled can't view PDFs and EXE files etc. They don't even open images to see the hex and exif codes. Serious image browsers would be ThumbsPlus at about £60 or freebies like XNview.
#36 Totally agree with you, the programme crashes when it doesn't support certain files, not just RAW but other types as well. Otherwise this ones a keeper.

@38

I'm sure my Vic-20, Coco3, Commodore 64 and TRS-80 would love to get a try at it.. =D

No joke I still own those antiques don't have the heart to dispose of such classics...

On a side joke they re-did the Vic-20 as a modern system... but seriously re-tested the loader a few times as I wanted to make sure and I downloaded the pack creator from Themida and literaly raped the trial version... It's a decent tool for GAOTD to distribute it's packages only bad thing is the way it acts it's too rough cut so obviously most AV and protection softwares will go crazy... as it splits and injects code into a authentic file but you'll be glad to know that in the end there is no other crap installed on the system besides what the company (As for today Turbo Browser 11.6) is installed the strong point is this software cleans it's crap from the temp folders so less useless junk left on your pc.

On a side note GAOTD must care badly to make sure both parties are happy did you guys see the price of Themida?

Either GAOTD is own by a Arabic Oil Well owner that has a incrusted toilet of precious gems or a smart investor in a tool that works with his/her business plan.

If it's the first can we skip the software one day and go for free gallons of petrol =D !!!

My installation on a Windows Vista Home Premium was smooth and flawless. I filled the registration with only my pen-name and email address then sent a blank email to pp@filestream.com. In only a second or two, almost in an instant, my password arrived. I wonder why others get problems on their installation. Thanks GOTD.

FileStream Turbo Browser CRASHED

Program crashed immediately when trying to open a Minolta Raw file (of which I have thousands and continue to add more every day).

If it can't decipher Minolta Raw just like free http://www.picasa.com/ can, then shame on FileStream.

From the Help file:

Turbo Browser added native viewing support for the following digital camera RAW formats:

Hasselblad CFV, Kodak EasyShare C330 and DCS200, Nikon D40X and E3200, Panasonic DMC-FZ8, DMC-FZ50, DMC-LX2 and DMC-L1, Pentax Optio 750Z, K10D and K100D, Canon PowerShots A610/A620/A630/A640/S3 IS, EOS 400D and EOS-1D Mark III , Apple QuickTake 100/150, Mamiya ZD, Casio QV-R41 and EX-Z4, Olympus E-400, E-410, SP510UZ and SP550UZ, Fuji FinePix S5Pro, Leica Digilux 3, Samsung GX-1S, Sony XCD-SX910CR and DSLR-A100, Minolta DiMAGE G530, Canon EOS-1D , EOS-1DS, EOS 5D and PowerShot S3 IS/A610, Polaroid x530, Nikon D40 and D200, Pentax K10D, Fuji S6000fd, Kodak DCS Pro 14, DC20, DC25, P850 and P880, Panasonic DMC-LX2, Olympus E-330, Imacon Ixpress

Seriously?

The listed Minolta DiMage G530 doesn't even "do" Raw, so I imagine the help file, the help file writers, or the FileStream programmers are just focusing on something else, something other than total compatibility with the competition.

Either that's an OLD help file or this is an OLD program.

Free Google Picasa currently supports RAW formats from the following manufacturers (updated 09/27/2011 NOT limited by camera model):

Adobe (.DNG)
Canon (.CRW, .CR2)
Casio (.RAW)
Fuji (.RAF)
Hasselblad (.3FR)
Kodak (.DCR, .KDC)
Leica (.DNG and .RAW)
Minolta (.MRW)
Nikon (.NEF, .NRW)
Olympus (.ORF)
Panasonic (.RAW, .RW2)
Pentax (.PEF)
Ricoh (.DNG)
Samsung (.DNG)
Sigma (.X3F)
Sony (.SRF,.SR2)

Any response, FileStream?

==========

To those who say, "Hey, get a new camera -- the one you're using is an antique," I respond:

Any file browser should be able to browse "legacy" files, so just because a camera itself is old does not mean we are going to toss our tens of thousands of images taken when that camera was new.

This is supposed to be a smart, all purpose file browser, and it crashed and left memory (rather than a simple "can't read" error?) on the FIRST file I asked it to view.

Unless FleStream can make good on this, I'll continue to use alternatives, almost all of which are free.

As mentioned, the program crashes when viewing a (supposedly) non-supported file format. I tried to view a Canon RAW file (.cr2) and got the crash.

Wouldn't it be better to simply display a "not supported" message?

Dear GOTD users,

Thank you for reporting "550 Mailbox quota exceeded" error, we have contacted the developer regarding this issue.

The e-mail account quota has just been increased. Please send another request from a different e-mail address or wait one hour to send from the same e-mail address again. (one hour time out to prevent inadvertent duplicate requests)

Thank you for understanding and sorry for the caused inconveniences.

To register, you must:

1 - fill in minimum info on form at http://www.filestream.com/register/tb11-gotd-register.php
and click [ Register ]

2 - THEN, YOU must SEND AN EMPTY EMAIL to pp@filestream.com from the same email address you used to register.

3 - WAIT for their email reply containing a password that works ONLY in the GOTD package (the serial number does NOT work in a download trial from their public web page -- they are NOT giving us the publicly available program).

==========

Marketing 101

GOTD, I'm now think it would be better policy if we got the PUBLIC version of the program, not some custom version that may have no correspondence with the public version (how would we know?) -- otherwise, we have no idea of what compromises we are working with.

We should get a "key" to the publicly available demo.

That would also reduce the struggles so many of us have trying to download and unwrap the GOTD Zip file.

I appreciate the companies want to control their potential "losses" from uncontrolled free distribution, but hey, there's a point of angering more people and destroying what "goodwill" the company might have had.

Generally, I find that most folks who want the free version would not have paid for the for-pay version anyway, so they are not really losing sales by giving it away here for a day, and they stand a chance of growing goodwill and familiarity in a group of geeks worldwide who otherwise might never know about them.

Followed all instructions, did the un-zip and awaited the Zip ID. Received same, BUT ... it will not load into the window asking for it. Have tried both cutting & pasting as well as manually loading, but I cannot get anything to appear in the white box where it is requested. Is there a secret to this aspect of the download? I am not desperate, just interested ... & maybe a little curious.

After testing it, I discovered that this software calls home base every time you try to do FTP to a remote server or set up remote access.
This is a dangerous configuration, since your data may be sent to an unknown server in parallel byte transmission mode.
I just uninstalled it because of security concerns.

I'm guessing Russian-based program, judging by the bad grammar. After reading all the registration complaints I decided it's not worth the bother to jump through all those unnecessary hoops. So feedback would be:
1. change the name - it's like calling a car a 'pitcher' - makes no sense, right?
2. Edit your product description to include parts of speech we like to call "articles."
3. If you want positive, helpful feedback, do not waste everyone's time with a dumb idea. Use the auto-reg that GOTD is so famous for - never mind you database for now; the idea is to get the word out, right? So K.I.S.S. If it's easy to get, register, and use, then you will get useful feedback; make it difficult and you get a long page of complaints; how did that help your marketing efforts, eh?
4. Consider a price reduction.

Dear GOTD users,

please note that download package has been updated for Turbo Browser 11.6. Though there are no changes to the original build, we have fixed some errors in GOTD wrapper, that might cause inabitlity to get the software on some PCs. To make the long story short "The memory could not be read.” error fixed and the solution to slow installation is found.

Therefore if you experience problems when installing, please re-download the package.

ps: you can learn more about GOTD wrapper update in our Blog. We will appreciate it if you could submit error reports as comments to that post.

Have a nice giveaway of the day!

I wish there was more detail on the features on their web page. I like the previewer for all the file types but one thing I'd like to know if it could do is to create an editable doc of the file names in a directory tree. I would love a file browser that could easily implement this with a single button or right click.

I'm assuming you can link the program you want to open a given file type and be able to override it manually when desired. There's just not enough detail on the features to make me want to install it without seeing a list of all features or better yet, an online manual.

If you follow the instructions in the readme, it registers without a problem. You are getting a lot of software for free. I don't think it expires. You will only loose out on some features when it gets upgraded. I've been in the IT industry for 30 years. Seems like a good deal. If you don't like it, use a proper uninstaller to remove it. As simple as that. Most of my software is open source but I always keep a look out for decent programs.

This installed without a problem but after fooling around with it a while I couldn't really figure out what the purpose of the program or what I would use it for. As a picture viewer it's inferior to what's already in windows because it can't show previews of pictures inside a folder (or if it can I couldn't figure out how). Seems like a lot of bells and whistles that aren't too useful--at least for me. I uninstalled it.

Downloaded and installed easy on XP sp3. Reg key already in email. Registered no problem.

This browser is more than an image viewer and is far superior to Windows Explorer with loads of options. Having the ability to browse and view files not just photos but documents and exe files etc. without opening them is a real time saver. Built-in hex editor and exif viewer with histograph info etc, also welcome.
Regarding the photo viewing facility, a zoom in/out feature would help.

Setup.exe throws up the following message and won't install:
"A monitor program has been found running in your system.
Please, unload it from memory and restart your program."

What's this? Another bout of ignorance, xtrap style?

There's quite a number of programs running on my system that can possibly be called "a monitor".
And some of them cannot be turned off easily (they're mandatory for my remote job, and resist messing up with them).

Do you guys realize such "anti-monitor" tricks only reduce your customer base, without providing any real protection at all?
Have you been living in a cage for the last decade, if you don't know about virtualization and all the control it gives over *any* process in the system?
If I wanted to steal something, I'd just strip off GotD's wrapper, with whatever "Themida"s it got, and no software can possibly prevent this.

(also for your information: some people prefer to use server versions of Windows as their desktop OS, just for more security and stability.
When run under such OS your wrapper exits without doing anything, again with a vague message)

The more tricks you use, the more chances are that one day you'll annoy a kid who got nothing else to do, and he will develop some "automatic GotD wrapper stripper".

Been there, done that. In the eighties and nineties many software developers tried to utilize copy protected floppies, LPT and USB dongles, all along with "anti-debugger" techniques.
But that only attracted hackers and turned away legitimate customers, so the trend died.

Easy and speedy installation with password immediately received and easy registration. The speed of this software is amazingly fast. Very good software for exploring every area of your computer. Functions are really beyond the need of an average computer user. If you have tons of files of different types, MS Word, WordPerfect, etc, etc, etc, and you want to find a type of file, let's say, in all 10 different harddisks, all your FTPs, portable USBs, etc, etc, from your computer, then filter the search to that file type, and it will locate for you all files of this type. The giveaway some time ago, xyexplorer is enough for most users. I'd say it is a good software, innovative, but not really for the average user.

Installed without issue. Follow instructions to get key BEFORE you install. Win7x64

Will Turbo Browser work as a default picture viewer? I want to get away from using Microsoft Image Viewer as my default viewer.

Haven't spent anytime using Turbo Browser, but viewed a few .jpg & .png images and it seems to work 'ok'. No crashes.

The program uses a nice concept, with three panels, used by some other applications, too. The first is the folder tree, the second is a file list, third is a viewer panel. All nice and good so far, it goes far beyond the capabilities of Windows Explorer (by the way, I cannot understand how can Microsoft still deliver such a rubbish file manager even in Windows 7, but that is a different story :)
However, it crashes every time when I try to open any image in Olympus raw fomat (ORF files - from two different Olympus cameras - E-510 DSLR and E-PL1 mirrorless).
So it is completely useless for Olympus DLSR or mirrorless owners, like myself.

I have the same experience as #8. Installation went well, program is running, click on image and program crashes. I'm struggling to see why this program does anything that other programs do as well if not better.

Is it worth $70? Absolutely not. Company can't even be bothered to put screen shots on website - poor.

Registered quite easily. Program started. I have no idea what it is suppose to do. Cannot get to the FAQ. It does not show my pictures (or any other files for that matter) although i know they are there.
My motto with these kind of programs, if i can't get it do work within 5 minutes, uninstall.

The password for FileStream Turbo Browser will be sent to you instantly.

Is what is said after registration. More than one hour has past and
still no returned E-Mail. For those of us in Europe the business day is slowly but surely coming to an end and may I remind the publisher that today is Friday and almost all offices are closed over the weekend.
Thank you for your attention.

Referring to the first comment, I too, haven't received the password after I registered at the mentioned webpage. Now, I have to wait for the password before I continue with the installation.
