OK now: I've tried and am now running the Cleaner 2010 as one of my 3 primary anti malware software. It is simple to install and to handle and - to my surprise, it even dug out 3 malwares my other anti-spywares did not! It does the 150 GB (C-drive) within about 6-8 min (SmartScan) and does the rest (a proud <2.5 TB) within 5h 4m 45s checking 358747 objects (FullScan).
That is quite less than another established anti-vir does (which would need for the same scan short of 24h!) not even detecting the 3 items mentioned above.
So I'm definitely not the one bitching about The Cleaner 2010.

I was so surprised this morning to see "The Cleaner" as a giveaway of the day. I used this program way back in the late 90's and even purchased it back then. It was the best trojan remover on the internet. I could not even guess how many computers this program repaired for me in the past. I never once had to use anything else.

I have downloaded this version and installed it on a test computer and ran the program and sure enough it has lived up to its reputation of years ago! I know Malwarebytes is Free to users but so is "The Cleaner today thanks to Moosoft and GOTD.

Downloaded and installed The Cleaner and informed had to install names or whatever. Did it. Very easy and no problem. Then I scanned my entire computer. Very easy and quite quick. If this old woman can do it anyone can. I like this software. Thank you GOTD.

A much safer way to protect your system is to load a virtual machine on your computer and allocate of your hard disk space to this VM. Then.. create a snapshot. When you have any virus or problem at all, simply restore your snapshot. Never a worry.

Hopefully I have helped someone today. Thanks,

I just installed this and ESET Smart Security (NOD32) told me it contained a virus...? False positive?
Still, it's very strange for this kind of software to set antivirus software off like this.

Guday from New Zealand,

I have been recommending Comodo BOClean and Internet Security, free for home users, for 2 years now, and have had total success with it. I never scan, and just once a month clear out my Anti virus events file. You must not us any other security with this or you will have software conflict, and your computer comes to a standstill of course.

Regards bill3.

I would like to address a couple of points here:

CONS: 1) Frequent false positives.
We don't have any data suggesting there are frequent false positives. If you are getting them please submit information or samples for evaluation.

2) No daily updates. Updates only twice/thrice a week.
Updates are daily or several times a day depending on the threats.

3) During update it downloads entire database of size ~18mb.
The database is updated incrementally. You do not have to download the full database.

4) Don’t scan for Malicious registry and cookies.
We do not believe there is such a thing as "malicious registry and cookies." The registry may point to malicious files which are detected and removed.

I am not sure whether any registry and browser monitoring is included in the realtime protection.

The realtime protection is for on-access files only.

The Cleaner has never been "off the market" in the 12 years it has been available.

Hi all!!

Today's giveaway is a pretty GOOD TOOL and definitely worth downloading!!

The software is easy to use and the malware database is impressive compared to other antimalware SW out there.

KEY FEATURES:

· Registry Monitoring
· Active Scanning
· Stealth Mode
· Quarantine Manager
· Scheduler
· In-Program File Submission
· Command Line File Testing
· Email Alerts
· Admin Message Alerts
· TCMonitor Ignore List
· TCMonitor Editor
· Active Scanner Ignore List
· Encrypted Configuration Data
· Expanded Scan Information
· Scan Pause/Resume
· Enhanced Fonts In TCActive!

So 2 THUMBS UP for me!!

Having said that, I think that this combination of bomb-proof FREEWARE SECURITY TOOLS is right now absolutely the BEST ONE available on the market to protect your system against any kind of known and unknown malware (and doesn't cost you a dime...LOL!):

COMODO FIREWALL (or ONLINE ARMOR) + AVAST! FREE ANTIVIRUS 5 + A-SQUARED 4.5 + SUPERANTISPYWARE PORTABLE VERSION (or MALWAREBYTE's ANTIMALWARE which is in my view a little bit inferior than SAS for detecting malware) + THREATFIRE (optional) + SPYWARE BLASTER + KEY SCRAMBLER (Antikeylogger) + ROOT REPEAL or GMER (Antirootkit)

In particular the last FREE version of AVAST is simply AMAZING as it provides a set of great features (Behavior Shield, Behavioral Honeypots, File System Shield, Mail Shield, Web Shield, P2P Shield, IM Shield, Network Shield, Silent/Gaming Mode etc...) that even the award-winning AVIRA PREMIUM 9 doesn't have!!

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Antivirus/Avast-Home-Edition.shtml

And it's not an accident that Google has chosen this product for inclusion in GOOGLE PACK after taking note of the last AV COMPARATIVES REPORT that has ranked AVAST 5! as the BEST FREE AV in the market, thanks to its great features and low FALSE POSITIVE DETECTION RATE compared to other award-winning FREE AV such as AVIRA.

Cheers from Italy!!

...how do I run this thing on an offline machine?
Can't do that, even after downloading their definitions' file "malware.abs", which by the way seems to be the same as the current one given with GaD pack.
