I found this software is extremely helpful for my purposes, esp. when stripping out underscore,#... also renaming/rearrange file names in bulk eg. artist-title (don't have to do twice like in mp3tag) but
the "custom" genre is not as intuiative and good as mp3tag (may be
I haven't figured out yet?

#29. I don't 'need' the artwork. I want it. I had album art on my LPs, cassettes and CDs. I want it with my digital collection.

As for the software on offer today, like many others here I've found Media Monkey more than up to the task. It can retag single songs or entire albums. I don't need more software to do the job that my media player can already do. So I'll pass.

no it doe's not mean we have non-purchased music,
it means I have copied all my tapes and old albums and this type of software helps me fill in the tags, as a meercat says "SIMPLE"

I tried this and was not impressed so uninstalled

I use http://musicbrainz.org/doc/MusicBrainz_Picard, and also use this ti ident

My impression: Tagjet is OK, just as good as Mp3tag and Tagscan.
I'll keep on using Mp3tag because Mp3tag lets you choose whether or not to change the FILE DATE of the file you work with.
( My preference: like RENAMING doesn't change the file date so re-TAG-ging shouldn't. Did my best to find this option in Tagjet, doesn't seem to be there. I'd say Mp3tag and Tagscan are at least more versatile qua user's preferences. )

Activate == GAOTD date checker & presets the registration data
 Setup == TagJet 2.1 installer.exe

XP SP3
v2.1

clean install, 3 MB into directory of your choice
sets up some sort of "cache" files in %APPDATA%

CHM Help file

takes a LONG time to open?
(18 seconds or so)

only handles MP3 files, so no OGG or WMA or ...

resizeable window

lots of hotkeys

when you traverse a directory, you actually have to double-click
the directory name. (at first i was like, "why isn't it finding
any files?")

you can close the Folders & Processor windows
(gives you more space for the actual listings)

column headers are modifiable

column widths AUTOSIZE (hallahlueya!)
(wish more programs would do that, MS, cough cough)

file size displays as Mb
(wonder if an option for bytes would be nice?)

horror of horrors! Play, opens WMP, instead of the default or
some specified media player
(FAIL!)

multi-level undo
(don't know how many though?)

not sure if you can do something like take a group of files &
delete a particular tag field from each, like delete (clear)
all the Genre fields?

to get a good feel, would take much more time then i have at
the moment. bye.

#24 Edith: Congratulations on being such a young 93 and continuing to learn and grow.

This particular piece of software is for people who have a lot of digital music, downloaded usually (apple's music store, Amazon.com's music - a lot of it free, all varieties and genres - or from other sites or recording it off online radio or other sources or from CD. It helps organize and find the music files in the music "library" by giving them "tags" like genre, subgenre, etc., along with album, track and artist, and also providing lyrics for some. The music usually comes with this stuff (except lyrics), but people don't always like what's there, so they'd use this to add or change various parts of the file names and data.

Most of the software here appeals to some people some of the time, like this software today, or the video editing software that's good to know about but everybody might not use, but there is a lot of software given away that everybody can use (like the backup and recovery software or other utility programs).

I like the spreadsheet format. Allows very quick and easy changes to mp3 tags. Useful software and a time saver if many tags need to be updated. Better than any of the tagging systems built into players that I've tried.

$30bucks for this???

I've been using "MediaMonkey" (http://www.mediamonkey.com/) for all my re-tagging needs. Totally free and simple to use.

As for batch file renaming, I use "Bulk Rename Utility" (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php) which is incredibly simple to use.
