StarBurn is a powerful tool for grabbing, burning and mastering CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD media. StarBurn supports all types of optical storage media (including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, Dual layer DVD-R & DVD+R, BD-R/RE, HD-DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM) as well as a wide variety of burning hardware.

StarBurn is easy to learn and to use. In addition to advanced DVD authoring and mastering features StarBurn offers a number of step-by-step wizards for novice users.

New features of StarBurn v.10

  • Decryptor with AACS keys database to rip from all drives.
  • Online help
  • Fully skin-able and theme-able wizards (not only main form as it was in V9);
  • Vista-signed executables (StarBurn is "blessed" for Vista/Longhorn now);
  • Blu-Ray decrypter wizard (V9 had only DVD decrypter);
  • UDF 2.0 / Unicode image mastering wizard (V9 had only ISO9660/Joliet).

Main differences between GAOTD version and freeware version of Starburn:

  • DVD decrypter (missing from RDS standard builds);
  • Blu-Ray decrypter (missing from RDS standard builds).

Complete list of features

Windows 2000 SP4 (Windows XP SP2 and up recommended); 800 MHz Intel Pentium III class processor; 512 MB of RAM; 30 MB of disc space for StarBurn application data; CD/DVD drive (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD burner recommended)

First off that is a peice of crap program, if it were so great they wouldnt give it away for free. 2nd- Get urself a rapidshare account and find sites that host rapidshare files and get yourself a good program, I recommend Clonedvd2, simple and great!!!

“If you don’t bother yourself to read the whole EULA thing and just check the boxes during setup randomly and hitting “OK” every time we do consider this as being YOUR own problem rather then OUR problem.
P.S. If you do take to the mouth everything you find around you’ll wake up DEAD one day. And don’t blame anybody in this. Just start reading the stickers on the bottles.”

Yes I read this on the website on their forum too, obviously not the sharpest knife in the draw. How can you WAKEUP if your DEAD ??...

I see that this software is not compatibel well with ESET NOD 32 antivirus. I'm using NOD 32 antivirus 3.0, and when i run a StarBUrn function like Eject, Load dirve, or when it prepare to burn disk, the NOD 32 comsume a lot of CPU, there are times it comsumes 100% of my CPU. No other of my application make things like that. I don't know this happens on your computers or not, but for me, it's something that make me feel i don't need this much on my computer. But thank you GAOD and Rocket Division SOftware.

Since, as several have mentioned, Romeo is using StarBurn components (and Duplex Secure SPTD), and I was interested in StarBurn's Blu-Ray decryption (which, unfortunately, turns out to be experimental), I uninstalled both and reinstalled StarBurn (this was also to get around some Vista compatibility issues with Romeo which were affecting StarBurn), and StarBurn came up fine (no time to test Blu-Ray decryption).

#211, Deborah, did you install from an Administrator user account? You might try the StarBurn (Limited) link. By the way, the Start Menu folder is Give Away of the Day (sic).

This is WORST PIECE OF CRAP program I've EVER SEEN. The interface looks fine when started. When trying to burn DVD, the wizard keeps on CHECKING for DVD burner on the system although, they are already listed in the bottom-pane of the screen.

...And it takes forever to recognize the DVD burner drive (BTW, I have a Sony VAIO desktop with Pioneer DVD burner). Worst is when you try to end it using the "Cancel" button, the program continues looping through in order to find the DVD burner.

I will stick with my Roxio & Sony's licensed version.

And for those of you who're touting about this software being worth $500.00, all I say is "Wakeup and smell some coffee" guys. I don't know would hesitate to pay $39.99 at best.

Disappointments Galore!

Starburn application installed on XP pro SP2 512 mb Ram and with 219gb free on Hard Drive and with PC Cillan turned off. I unselected all the check boxes during the install wizaard. When aplication is started from start menu Give Away Of The Day->StarBurn-StarBurn (Total, the splash screen opens for aprox 5 seconds then a dialog box pops up with the message "Failed to create empty document." Click OK on this popup and then it disapears and i am back at the desktop. It does not work for me.

I am really frusterated. I was so excited when I saw this program offered early this morning around 1am. I have windows Vista,a brand new computer,& a few security programs, however, even after disabling all of them, I cannot seem to get this program to work, or understand how to make it work. Is there anyone from the company that is offering this program that can help me? I would really appreciate it, as I could not afford this program. I don't know if I'm not computer savvy enough, or if something in my computer is not allowing the program to fully function. There is an option that mentions every windows, except Vista which really confuses me.It's now 10:40 & I've tried everything. Thanks. Deborah

It turns out that StarnBurn won't run if you have Romeo installed as well. It doesn't matter if Romeo is running or not because it is integrated into explorer.

If you have Ashampoo Uninstaller (or a similar product) and you used it to install Romeo then there is a way to be able to run both when you want to, but it takes a little work.

First you use AU to uninstall Romeo and create a reinstall file for later use. If you are like me and try to put similar programs in the same place of the Start menu, then the AU uninstallation of Romeo deletes all the menu entries that were created when Romeo was installed using AU.

No sweat, I used AU to created a reinstall file for StarBurn which I inmediatelly used to rewrite all the menu entries that StarBurn created. If you want to use Romeo in the future for whatever reason, then use AU's ability to restore all changes made when Romeo was installed, so it will run ok, but make sure you use AU to uninstall Romeo if you want to use Starburn again!

starburn.dll with today's install - renaming and copying the Romeo version to the Starburn folder resulted in licensing no longer supported message - returning .dll's to correct locations resulted in the error again. Since removing Romeo instantly allowed Starburn to function properly, I'm guessing there's a problem with the licensing between GAOTD/Romeo/Starburn - uninstalling Romeo allows Starburn to start properly - at least here.

I've been working with the starburn.ddl expected to be 0x20080414 malfunction for several hours now - repeatable error was ultimately immediately corrected by simply uninstalling Romeo software - no reload of correctly activated Starburn program was required. Starburn malfunctioned with the .dll error - remove Romeo - try Starburn again - opens fine, no errors. I had 3 different versions of starburn.dll on my XP pro-sp2 system - Romeo used one, Ultimate audio recorder used and even older version, and the new

Giveaway of the Day - StarBurn v.10

Installed perfectly on my Aopen AX45V system with 704MB of ram a celeron 1.70GHz processor running Win XP Home with service pack 3.

I suggest running a registry defragmenter and cleaner, also defrag your hard disk.

Go to control panel and click system then click advanced then in the performance tab click settings a performance options box will come up click on the advanced tab go down to the virtual memory section and click change.
Make sure that system managed size is checked then click set, click ok then exit the program.

Reboot.

Before install disable your anti virus program, zone alarm and any unnecessary programs, then install.

OK, this is my first time commenting, but here goes: I have a fairly low end machine running XP. I am a "burn" novice, so I was looking for idiot proof software. I read the comments here and decided to give this one a shot. The download and installation were complete no brainers without a single hitch. The UI is very nice and even I can understand it without problems. The software appears (at least so far) to function exactly as advertised. I'm very pleased. I will admitt that this guy has functionality beyond my ken, so I'm afraid I can't speak to the network bells and whistles, but as for the rest, I'd recommend it!

I found a Starburn.dll file in my Romeo program's folder. What's with that???

FINALLY resolved the problem that so many are having (two shortcuts/icons on desktop but only flash screen opens, dings and then closes,) by uninstalling Romeo, and then uninstalling and reinstalling Starburn. I restarted the computer and cleaned up the registry after each step. Now only have one desktop shortcut and the program opens (no time to test it yet...)

Can't find the Starburn.dll that had previously invaded my Romeo folder, though... Odd.

There are certainly some issues that need to be addressed prior to this software being retailed, most of which have been addressed in the above comments (drag and drop, etc.)

Also, prior to offering this again as a Giveaway:
1. Resolve installation issues and conflict with Romeo.
2. Change the default folder name to Starburn (NOT Giveaway.)
3. Uncheck the "make RocketDivision default homepage."
4. Uncheck the "make RocketDivision default search provider."
5. Improve customer support.

It is sleazy to attempt to redirect people's browsers and search engines...especially for a company who is asking $495 for their software. Also, when asking people to take the time to send logs of their installation problems, it might behoove Rocket Division to get back to them either by responding to their problem, or at least by posting a solution here. At the very least, they might post that they've received the emails and are working on it. Nobody wants to give a company their money (especially $495!) if unless said company is REALLY support oriented.

Despite any benefits that StarBurn software may have, I think Rocket Division's reputation may have suffered today for all the above reasons. That any software is "free" today is irrelevant--it is only free so that a software company will get feedback and people will learn about the software, hopefully increasing sales by both creating loyal customers, and word of mouth. At this time, I can not recommend StarBurn.

Network burning is a nice feature, but... you stills need to run to place of dvd burner to put the DVD, back to your pc to start the burning and back to the place of dvd burner to take the dvd burned.. well just for burning a disk... if more, you will need to make it more times...

I think its easier buy an USB DVD burner... :)

8.8.5
StarBurn-Total mentions HDmedia; does that mean it is limited to 640x480 or 720x480 (std dvd) or 854x480 (480p) or 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080i) resolutions?
Think bluray is 1920x1080.

Audio, is it limited to lossy 5.1 or 7.1?

I don't have a DVD burner, so I couldn't test that, but I do have a CD burner.
It ripped and burned a 470MB .iso file quickly on a Dell w/ a 2.6GHz P4 and 768MB of RAM. It like how you can choose a skin for it. I have it matching my Royale theme for XP Home. (Don't ask for the file.) BTW, there is a free version without DVD or Blu-Ray decryption, as stated in the description.

Thanks again, GAOTD!

Hi, I've never posted or commented on software before, but after reading the coments for this software, I thought I'd throw in my two cents.

I already have Nero 8 on my machine, so I don't need a new burning software package. But I appreciate GAOTD for allowing me the opportunity. Thanks.

To #144 ww2vet56, I ask, why the hostility? What exactly is the need to vent your spleen about (*gasp*) trying out FREE software on your machine? Yes, the developer would like to have user comments. Yes, there may be bugs. So what? If you're so set against using up your RAM testing the product, here's a fabulous idea: DON'T PARTICIPATE. 100% effective in that problem.

Now, ww2vet56, if you would direct your gaze to the next part of this, I'd appreciate it. This is for Andrew from Rocket Division: It is amazing, wonderful, uh.....fabulous......wait, I'll think of another.......oh, terrific! that you're monitoring the forum to help users with their issues. It's extremely rare and a breath of fresh air to have the software's rep posting along with us. Good job, and trust me, if I'm ever in the market for any software that Rocket Division might have an offering for, I'll seriously consider it.

Now then, can we leave the vitriol in the locker room where it belongs, and try to act civilized? GAOTD, keep up the good work...I've downloaded at least three dozen progs from this site, and N...E....V.....E.....R had a problem, so thanks again!

Cheers!
Rick

This burn from network is really gonna come in handy. Theoretically if you were to tunnel into your home network using something like Hamachi you could burn to any pc on the planet that you have tunneled/networked, from anywhere else on the frickin' planet! Crazy fast evolving world... :/ Starburn has always performed very well for me and I look forward to trying out these bonus features.

Being a GAOTD too this program is a SCARE in-spite of its pleasant features.$495 is even more than the price for genuine windows and a component of Ms office or Visual studio. Its even more than many adobe products and not to forget more than Nero itself.A good way to drill hole in the pocket. What a loot it has been today, I must say.$495 Oh!!!!

#38 : I'm so sick to death of America bashers I could just hurl. What country are you in? I'll bet you $10 and the hole in a doughnut that America has been nothing but GOOD to your country, whereever that is. You probably also believe that the Holocaust never happened, and that man never landed on the moon. Grow up. Get a job. Get a life.

Tried to go to their forum to post as suggested by their rep Andrew #27 and a warning comes up saying

'server certificate has expired in December 2007 '

Yeah Boy ! There is a company you can trust.

I understoos ww2's comment perfectly. At least he gave an opinion on todays offer. You have contributed nothing although you did act your age. This is Give Away Of The day, not grammar school. Offer a comment on this give away or refrain from posting please. Whether of not myself or anyone else agrees with him, isn't the point. The point is, he gave us an opinion.
I just happen to agree. This offer doesn't seem ready for release. It is over priced (200xx fold) & lacks features found in Nero, Roxio & even Ashampoo Burning Studio.

Thanks for the detailed grammar lesson William but perhaps you should practise what you so haughtily preach.
Were you not taught to start sentences with capital letters?

As for this giveaway, I am surprised there has been no talk of its ability to shrink to single layer disks.
(I realise a really large percentage of comments are either from the ken kelly's of this site, who make their imperious judgments without downloading at all, or those who did and simply couldn't get the program to run!)

#155, I know what #144 is talking about. They want us to test their frigging product on our computers, therefore stuffing up ours and not their computers. Good luck to all who still have it.

I do wish I had read #144 post before I downloaded it. My internet connection probably would be still okay.

Have fun people. :)

Used ImgBurn to put in on my harddrive.
Used IfoEdit which created proper IFO and BUP files
Used StarBurn to make DVD.

Okay, just checked out the forum. And Yest I have to use another program to shrink it.

Checking the rest of the forum, seems there have been a lot of problems.

Give it a miss. Not worth the trouble.
