Helps you get back all kinds of lost or deleted data on Android devices.

The Microsoft Office and many other multi clipboards simply retain the last few clips so that you can copy more than once before pasting. That functionality doesn't even scratch the surface of what Spartan can do!

You can save clips permanently. You can take (and edit) screenshots. You can create clips which automatically include the system date and time. You can encrypt sensitive clips like your passwords and credit card details. You can paste any digital photo or graphic file on your PC simply by browsing to it and clicking a button - and you have the option to paste it in the format accepted by Outlook, Outlook Express and Windows Mail which other clipboards do not offer.

As well as a multi clipboard, you get a year planner, a graphics editor and a picture browser thrown in. Clips which are Web addresses work as bookmarks. Clips which are phone numbers will dial via your modem. Clips which are files on your PC work as shortcuts to them. It will remove email indentation chevrons from text. It will word wrap fixed line length text (Including the repair of hyphenated words) It even pastes text into old DOS programs! The list of uses for this software just goes on and on.

A followup comment to earlier: on a different machine (Vista) with different AV and firewall setup, I DID manage to get Spartan to install -- and had to kill the setup.exe process that was clearly waiting to be told the Spartan installer had finished and never got the message. However, the software installed and runs well -- the interface is quirky and unusual: I found the flashing messageboxes irksome (like someone else here but understand what they are and when they go away) but find the lack of a minimise to tray option surprising. I'll experiment: the unusual interface has clearly been designed to fit a need and although I'm used to straightforward lists, I think I can see the appeal. So thanks, guys, and if there's a feedback option still around in a few days or weeks I'll post some more informed comment.

But the new GOTD wrapper definitely needs work :)

I think it would be better if there was a way to decide what is saved to the clipboard rather than saving everything automatically. I was working on a large word job today which involved a lot of copying. I didn't realize everything was saved to the clipboard. It wiped out everything I had previously saved yesterday without giving me a warning notice. Basically this makes the software useless for my purposes. Or possibly add a keep function so your common phrases can be stored permanently and not overwritten after the 25th entry.

@ 60 _Adam

If I thought that I had an insight into a giveaway product that was worth mentioning, that no-one else had, then I would leave a comment. But I don't throw opinions around for the sake of it like many others do. Plus, there are visitors to this site with far more computer "savvy" than I have, whose opinions on software are certainly more valid than mine.
As for "steeling", you cannot steal something that is free! The only reason it is free for a day is for the developer to attract interest in their website, possible future sales of updated versions of the giveaway product, possible sales of their alternative products and to generate subscribers to their e-mail lists! This is a perfectly sound, legitimate marketing tactic and I am no less grateful for the freebies, but I am not naive enough to think that they are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts. That's also why I don't think it is disrespectful to mention comparable free alternatives. If they are expecting to sell their product then they should not be afraid of a free alternative as their own product should be so much better to justify the fees.
Finally, if there is one piece of software you could do with downloading, it is a spellchecker, Dude!

#67 Ben Falls - May I suggest you watch all the 'Help' videos on the Spartan website. I think your issue might be addressed there. As far as the word 'Kid' being utilized in the answer to you and your response that you are 30 years old I find to be a hoot. It is a matter of perspective. Someone that is 31 years old most likely would not use the word 'kid' to describe you. Someone that is 60 years old would use it and not think it disparaging but a fact. The mention of 'libel' in the response, whether true or not, sure makes me wonder what was in your initial message. Could the tone of your message have been taken as a bit rude and immature?

I wanted a program like SPARTAN as I copy and paste lots of images and text. But I am a little too late. May have to try out other similar program recommended by #6 Giovanni.

This is the first program that I have downloaded since the installation change. I guess that it is registered since it says full copy, but it leaves a box on my toolbar saying 'activating'. Is Spartan registered?

Thanks GAOTD for this useful program. Installed in my desktop machine and works nicely. However, when trying to set it in my HP laptop (Win 7-64 I get a message "Failed to connect, try again later". I removed all protections but does not help. Any suggestion? (One hour left to register the program). Thanks.

I went to their website to watch their demos, and to my surprise I could hear the voice but saw no video. This is the first time this happens to me with Flash, so no idea how they managed it. (Using the latest Firefox version.)

Earlier, I installed Spartan on a XP Home system (a netbook) and had the non-ending/"lurking" activation issues mentioned in a previous comment (above).

However, when I attempted to install Spartan on a Windows ME system, I got "Newer version of Windows expected" (or something to that effect), in spite of what is listed at the top of this web page:

"System Requirements: from Windows 98 to Windows 8"

Looking for a different installation experience without possible problems, I also installed on another XP Home system (desktop machine running a temporarily-disabled AVAST! and other temp-disabled protections) and a XP MCE system (notebook running the AVG antivirus package, also disabled during install/activation). In all cases I was using the admin-privileged account.

However, I had the identical activation experience issues as before -- the same on all machines -- odd. The "Activation..." continued to run "forever" without the usual experience of launching a post-install/activate web browser window back to Giveawayoftheday; and under Spartan's HELP there is "Order on line" ; and under HELP / ABOUT SPARTAN there is "Spartan on line order link" (as well as "Full Copy", but with no hint of being registered to a particular user like "Giveawayofthe day" as usual).

Maybe this is normal for Spartan to display these things for a properly-registered installation? If so, it is misleading. Restarting the various machines made no difference, by the way, as I hoped it would

This may possibly be the first package I've attempted to install in a while since the new GOTD anti-piracy wrapper was introduced recently, so I don't yet know if I can expect this same non-ending "Activation..." button to persist in the Start Menu running-application area for all future-installed GOTD offers or not. It sure is annoying...

Also, I wonder if, at the end of any "trial" period that may be counting down, whether Spartan will continue to run as a full-featured registered copy or not. Well, for now at least, thank you M8 and GOTD. I look forward to a better Windows experience, and if that happens, I will recommend Spartan to others.

Hi,

My clipboard special need is simple. It all relates to what I have been doing in the last 10 minutes. Say I have two or three different searches that I am using in the Firefox search bar, or in a google bar. What I want to do is mouse-oriented, quickly bring up a display or column list of the latest clips, and choose one for using right now. No keyboard "shortcuts", no long-term keeping

And the best is ?

Steven

I must say I am sorely unimpressed. A clipboard extender should be simple and intuitive to use, enhance one's organization and not require learning entire new methods of operation.

I found their website to be disorganized and lacking of info. The tour was extensive but nowhere was there an overview with such tings as version, size, requirements, method for copying and especially for retrieval/pasting.

It installed OK, albeit with a strange installer, but one is presented with a near blank table with no obvious GUI, items sent to the clipboad via CNTL-C do not appear so cannot be retrieved. One has to learn to walk before learning to run. If it can't do the basics, all the added complexities of multiple sheets, tables, types just get in the way. And the basics should be obvious and intuitive.

BTW, to an earlier poster: Yes, clipboards are for TEMPORARY info. Permanent info should go into a database of dedicated files and a clipboard possibly used as a cache.

Although some vendors may offer their software for the purpose of testing, most of the offers are pure marketing operations, not testing. For the marketing project and for GAOTD to succeed, they need DLs and eyeballs. A MAJOR draw of eyeballs to this site is the high probility of names and links to alternate software.

Other than the occasional really bad software offerings, there is minimal feedback obtained from a single days' useage. Go back and read earlier comments - half of them are typically re problems with DLs or registration. Only a small percentage is ever actual specific feedback on the software.

Looks good, but not entirely sure it is activated/registered correctly.

After installing, there is an "Activating..." application running/lurking in the taskbar after several hours.

Also, displayed via HELP / ABOUT SPARTAN , the "Spartan online order link" offer is showing rather than the traditional (for example) "Registered to Giveawayoftheday" that I'm used to seeing. Not sure is that is to be expected.

I uninstalled with Revo Uninstaller (no problems) then reinstalled and allowed even more time for the "Activating..." task to complete, but no difference (it's still running).

As usual, I installed from the admin account, and before the install attempts I had disabled both Ad Muncher and Avast! antivirus protections.

Hi

The "empty box" as you call it is the clip preview window. It shows the clip that the mouse is over. It is only empty when there are no clips. When there are, it is very useful. If you don't like it, you can turn it off in "Options this view" on the tools menu.

I know you're just a kid but you are prepared to libel something just because you are too lazy to check the options or watch the video tutorials you are likely to end up in court sunshine!

I am impressed with their very well written Quick Start. In particular, they seem to have thought through all kinds of usability issues. For example:

"Once you have Spartan set up just the way you want it for one particular task and you find you need to change your options for another task, then, rather than change the options you have set up in View 1, change to View 2. You can set everything up in View 2 for the second task. When you then want to use Spartan for the first task again, you can revert to all the settings you had just by switching back to view 1.

There are 8 views and you can change view using the view menu or simply by hitting the function key with the view number."

That's enough to get need to try it.

Why can't I minimize Spartan to the tray icon? Am I just missing the option? I load up my taskbar with shortcuts and have limited space to view running applications (and Spartan is taking up some of that space when running in the background). Not being able to minimize to tray icon is a non-starter for me.

Downloaded and installed smoothly on Win 7. After trying it out a bit I'd say this is a keeper. In fact it is a 'daily use' keeper. So much to learn about this program and the wonderful tutorials are great. So glad that time was taken in making the videos so that there are no "Huh? What did he just click on?" moments in it. Seems it was made for my slow brain and slower mouse. For those here a day late I would suggest you get this one. Pull out your wallet and invest in your computer and in saving yourself headaches and time.

Fubar - Thanks for your note #20 re: freeware apps. Also I oftentimes find the freeware apps to come with a 'gift' that is difficult to remove.
Giovanni... In spite of what I just said to Fubar, just keep doing what you are doing. Thanks.

I'm a big fan of clipboard extenders, and I was looking forward to trying this.

Sadly, today's the second day in a row that the software encapsulated in the GOTD wrapper has failed even to start to install.

Anyone else who wants to try a clipboard extender that can do graphics as well as text might like to try my current favourite: Clipboard Help And Spell, from www.donationcoder.com.

I've heard good things about Spartan but the new GOTD wrapper doesn't seem to like 32-bit Win7Starter on my netbook so it looks like it'll stay, erm, under wraps, at least from my point of view. :(

@14. U do realize ur talking about yourself s well. Picked ur fav n can't be open to he possibility that sum might be equal or better. Yet u offer no data to back ur claim that urs is best.

@10. I've always used the txt/doc lists as well but I can see the possibilities in this n I think u should try it n see if its more useful.

Just 30mins ago, I cud hav used this. I was swapping the names of 2 pics.

I have used '101 Clips' for years; Spartan and M8 Free Clips are pretty much the same post-install. I had my 101 Clips open and upon downloading, all was transferred to Spartan, and remained that way. It says full copy when I click on 'about'; however, (yikes!) I cannot close the 'Activating' window, or even get it to display. I am reinstalling to see if it works in a completely different folder? Can anyone tell me what it is called in the 'Processes' in the Task Manager, it does not appear in the 'Applications' window.
I have used this multi-clipboard for years, it is great no matter what is used as it's current moniker.

Very happy to see todays offering. Now I can see and test the rest of the features. Currently, have been testing M8 Free Clipboard and Spartan Lite. While both limited in functions, I liked the output. So, now on with this full product to see what else I could not use. One main thing I really like and I assume I found it by trial and error - was the fact that at one of my forum sites I must enter my password all the time. GROAN. I usually then visit as a guest as I have several loops/buttons to go thru for my pw. I have a stuttering finger - LOL- and accidently hit one of the items listed on M8 captures and wah-lah it was the pw and M8/Spartan Lite enter it promptly. I have been using this constantly. Just one step/click from a clipboard capture and I am in. Can hardly wait to see what else I can find. The download was great, installation smooth, but just a little apprehensive as to whether its registered or not - all functions seem to be open and working, so will assume that it is. I cannot think at this moment of anything that is bad nor ugly so that's a "go/good" - :o) At the moment, my computer/drives are a torrential living nightmare, so I look for anything that will help make my other normal/daily routines easy while I straighten out the beasts here - so thank you GAOTD and M8 for this product. I deeply appreciate it. Have a good day everyone. Peace.

I can see how a program like this would be useful. However, each time my mouse goes over an "empty" cell, I get the popup window that says, "To use mouse, hold down Ctrl key". And since the cell is empty, the popup just displays a blank area -- very annoying and I can't seem to turn it off. It should be fairly easy to check the length of the data before deciding to display the window.

I'm inclined to delete this offering and take a look at some of the others that have been mentioned.

I downloaded Spartan on a previous computer but never really got into it. This time I read carefully, downloaded, and played. It is brilliant in terms of saving and reusing. Ditto does the daily stuff well, but this is a splendid extra tool. You can actually type the actual text straight into Spartan (like phone numbers) instead of copying and moving. Already have 23 items saved and categorized that I know I use regularly. I can see the use. Now need to see how quickly I get used to using it :). Thanks Spartan and GAOTD.

I used a previous copy of this which unfortunately became outdated (and payable for update). It really is a great utility but some of the additional features make it unique and useful like the clip editing functions which provide a mini graphics editor within the program. I'm hoping the previous editions 'flaws' were resolved so that direct pasting between web and powerpoint is now available again (it had become a bit flaky so that pasting had to be via the Spartan toolbar)

As a utility that allows the user to collect multiple images and then utilise them all without formally saving them, it is ideal... also saved huge amounts of time preparing standard letters made from different paragraphs which needed to be combined in certain patterns (its far easier visually for me than remembering a key press for a macro expander). The feature to colour code entries for quick finding is also a welcome addition.

The year planner/diary is a bit odd as an inclusive element so could be made either far more useful or omitted. Perhaps the provision of a feature to paste a phrase into notepad as a reminder when a date comes up would be a use for it?

I didn't want to mention names as that is flaming but I find other product suggestions to be distasteful and disrespectful to the people who give THEIR products away. Everyday I come to this site and find at least one person changing the subject and interjecting with program suggestions instead of giving VALID feedback about the particular program offered. To be really helpful, would be to try the GOTD and comment on it's functionality and/or usefulness, not throw in the value of someone else's product. Since these comments are moderated, I would find it useful to not let these comments get posted. Just my opinion for whatever it's worth or will someone compare what I said to what someone else said?

Couldnt find program to use with. the program after loading shows Full Version but couldnt find if where it would show if the program is licensed activated. Have had other programs on this giveaway of the day that I loaded and thought was activated but later found if was not. Software needs to easily show if the program is licensed or just free temparily. Make it short, I do think the program is easily used, but not sure if I will have it after this trial period.
Where do I find if program is activated and what is this GCD file? and where can I find program to use this GCD file?

@ Cory #41 - The Software Informer is a separate software which is always offered on the GOTD site, while installing. Just uncheck it and move on, if it is something you don't want. The current software install, in this case, Spartan, will be unaffected by the choice.

While providing details of competing products is very handy (even the Developers want to know who they are up against), we must keep in mind that GAotD is intended for testers to download, install, test, and then give feedback on that product. The Developers want to know the good, the bad, the ugly, so they can ultimately provide the most robust application to their clients. Without that critical information, their product could fail.

Thank you for lending me your eyes and ears for the moment. :-)

I have been visiting the GAOTD website regularly for years and have downloaded a ton of software, but this is the first time I have ever left a comment. First, I want to thank the GAOTD team for all that they do. Second, I really like today's offering and will have many uses for Spartan, so many thanks for that to the developer. Third, I find Giovanni's list of comparable freebies to be extremely useful and handy to view them on the same page as the giveaway, so please continue to do so and thanks, Giovanni!
